Find Shrub Marwood in the eastern hideout of the Firiona Vie outpost.

Upon completing the Dark Oak quest, Shrub states:

Shrub Marwood tosses the mantrap root out the window.. SPLASH!! 'I made a mistake. I didn't need that one. Here is the shillelagh I told you about. I found it in some burned out woods far from here. I cleaned it up and found it had a spark of mana so I had it enchanted with a few charges of my spell, [Fertile Crop]. Hope you like it.

You say, 'fertile crop?'

Shrub Marwood says 'Looking to get hold of my family druid spell, ehh? It doesn't come without a price. Lucky for you all I need is for you to run a small errand for me. Go fetch me a Sarnak farsight crystal, some Sarnak nightdust, some strathebone heal silk and some powder of Tsu. Do that and I will give you a copy of my family secret.'

Bring him these items:

- Sarnak Farsight Crystal (Sarnak Revealers in Lake of Ill Omen)
- Pouch of Dust (lore "Sarnak Night Dust", Sarnak Partisans in Frontier Mountains)
- Strathebone Silk (strathebone spiders in Kaesora)
- Shaman Powder (lore "Powder of Tsu", Froglok Tsu Shamans in Swamp of No Hope and Firiona Vie)

Turn these four items in to Shrub Marwood.

Shrub Marwood says 'Great work! I wish I had the coin to hire you on permanently. Maybe I will, when I find the lost trade city of Torsis. Here is the spell I copied for you. Careful, the ink is still drying.'

What have druids charmed using this spell? So far all I see is the "fungus people in Guk and Runnyeye".
Has any druid ever successfully charmed any plant at all with this? If so could you please post what mob it was? Lot's of info on what it doesn't work on, might be quicker to list what it does work on, shorter list that way...

There are the Shrooms all over Luclin, there cacti in the Overthere ... I know there are more, just can't think of them right off the bat.

IF you can get this spell at level 30-34, OT is a great place to charm plants and sick them on a chicken or something that isn't an animal.

Went to get the silks as a 37 druid with a 51 oger warrior. we camoed and leved. Warrior went first and leved down to the spiders. There were about 7-9 visable spiders. They were Green to him, Blue to me. When he attacked one 3 aggroed. They are sk's after warrior was down to 40% the first spider was 40% and sucking his hps and kept switching from 40-45% life. I then leved down there and succored us out of there. Warrior had 23% hp when zoned. I have been wanting this spell basically just to day i have it but this one can wait.

When you first zone into Kaesora, take the first available left. Lev down. There are no mobs there usually. Then walk straight to the next hall, turn right and see a door in front of you. There are 3 spiders behind that door. If you are careful, you can pull singles, but you'll probably get an add.

The spiders are fairly easy (especially if you only have to deal with 2 or 3 instead of 7). They are rootable, so you can root 1 and the other 2 will come. Root another one and back into the hall, so you are fighting 1 at a time. They will go down fairly easily. Generally the silk will drop from one of the 3 of those spiders.

Good Luck!
Rather odd quest

I just did this quest at level 57 just for fun. The tump stumps are common drops and took almost no time to get. For the sarnak dust, I kept the sarnak ruins in FM cleared. The third partisan that spawned dropped the dust, and this took about an hour. This part was just annoying due to the large number of green mobs that wander nearby and agro. For the farsight crystal, I slaughtered sarnaks at the fort in LOIO, but never did get a revealer or revenant to spawn. I lost count of how many sarnaks I killed. Eventually, I found one for sale in the bazaar.

Overall, this quest took an inordinate amount of time given the limited utility of the spell, and I'd recommend it only if you look at the spell as one of those fun class things you get to do as a druid.

I've had plant mobs in the high 20s (in Dawnshroud Peaks) that were "too high of a level" for "Beguile Plant" to work, which is kinda silly considering that "Beguile Plant" is a level 29 spell that has no upgrades.

My 49 druid tried the "Beguile Plant" spell on "a sunflower" in Scarlet Desert. Got the message "Your target is too high of a level for your charm spell." Then tried "Allure of the Wild" and got the message "This spell only works on animals." No surprise to either result.

Are there any useful mobs that can be charmed with "Beguile Plants"?

is this the only way to get the spell?...i really dont want do run to all the places and my main is only 32 druid...well just want to know.

This spell is a gross waste of time. Why would they not have a second quest to upgrade this a little? I can charm animals around my level and higher, why not plants? We are druid after all, friends and protectors of nature. Seems like we should be able to enlist the aid of the plant life too. I don't see any balance issues, but i guess they don't want it to work at higher levels for some reason? or they just thought it was a dumb spell and never bothered to make an upgrade.

Anyway, if you are bored, sure go ahead and do it, if you think you are going to be charming plants in SD or EJ, don't bother, you will only be disappointed.
I couldn't charm a treant in South Karana
# Jan 19 2003 at 11:19 AM Rating: Decent

I did the quest today, some notes:

- Farsight Crytal really LORE item only, so you can do it with a higher level alt, then give item to your low level druid
- i haven't done the Shillelagh quest, just handled the items to the halfling in FV, i got the spell
- i couldn't charm any treants in South Karana, it always said "That creatures is too high level to use this charm on it." ACK.

I did this quest to charm a treant in Karana and kill gnolls fast, but it not work.

Use Identify
# Aug 25 2002 at 5:20 PM Rating: Excellent
Some notes that I would have loved to know before going on this quest: 1) 'Powder of Tsu' is white and reads only 'Shaman Powder'. Identifying it will inform you that it is indeed 'Powder of Tsu'. 2) 'Sarnak Night Dust' also reads only 'Pouch of Dust' and needs identifying, though I don't think that the sarnak partisans drop any other kind of dust. 3) 'A Farsight Crystal' is NOT a nodrop, so asking about it in ooc might be a good way to find it, after all, the sarnak fort is always under siege. Also, I did NOT do the Handy Shillelagh quest first, but just gave the items to Shrub and he gave me the spell. He conned amiable.

I know that enchanters get the spell: Identify. I use a Silvery Mask which has unlimited charges of Identify if I ever need to identify anything. Bards also get a song that does the same thing.
More useful than it seems!

For those of you who think its a useless spell. Try charm the fungus people in Runnyeye and Guk. It works! It works on more mobs than you think. Treants are the popular idea, however. The spell is not too useful, but its a fun spell to play around with. The quest is not totally worth it, took me 2 hours. But if you have nothing to do, DO IT! Its a nice leisure quest for 45+ levels.

But, seriously, this spell would be good when fighting creatures such as Fungi Shrooms.
But, then again, this spell just doesn't really have that many uses.
When I get Kunark, though, you can bet its going to be added to my spell book =)

from what i've heard the spell is suposto be used in the plane of growth if there realy is a lv cap i guess that would be out the window i personaly haven't tried to get the spell because of how little it is usable from what people say but if you can charm in the plane of growth i would prolly do the quest. anyone know about that?

First, on most charm spells, there is a level cap. For instance, the enchanter spell, Allure, is usable on mobs up to level 51, in the planes. Second, a druid that uses this line of spells in Plane of Growth had better not kill anything there. They will lose faction with the mobs in the zone, Clerics and Pallies in Felwithe, and Rangers in Kelethin. Not to mention excluding themselves from any quests in PoG (I know of the Tunare-worshipping pally sword, not sure of any others).

Can anyone post the level of the spell... Maybe I missed it.
Btw, I like charming a pet...
like the sabers in LOIO... Charm on, set it after another, snare both, run back, sit and med, if the snare's break.. redo them, once charm breaks, cast charm on the tiggy with the most health, rinse, and repeat. I got a whole bub of yellow from this before i started getting bored.

I just did the charm plant quest and the shilleaugh quest. Yes, it may be a retarded spell but im on a pvp server and u should see the dark elves run when they see a treant comin straight for em..LOL

It may not be useful in game play but u can sure put on a show. =)

The shilleaugh is pretty worthless after u get the spell...u get a.....

9/36 2hb with 3 charges of Beguile Plants on it.

Not the greatest weap but its something. the faction was also a good bonus for me. =)

Level Cap? DOH!
# Dec 10 2001 at 4:00 AM Rating: Decent
I'm level 52 and I put off doing this quest because there are hardly any plant MOBs on Norrath. But as I started exploring Luclin I discovered that there are quite a few zones that are plant heavy and though that this spell would come in handy in zones like Fungus Grove for charming adds if we were short an enchanter or bard. Much to my dismay, I read that there is a level cap on the spell so it would be useless for any MOBs in Fungus Grove, or any MOB that would pose a threat to 52. So once again, I will ignore doing this quest. However, for you lower druids, there are some low-end plant heavy zones on Luclin too that are in the 35 and below area, so it might be worth while for you to do it.

Just my 2cp...

The enchanters Beguile spell has a lvl cap of 35.
I would guess beguile plant has the same level cap and therefore is resisted by higher lvl mobs.

Beguile actually has a level cap of 39th. Not sure of the cap on Plant Charm, but the Bloodthorns in EJ and TT are rather handy to have as pets as they hit harder than anything but the big cats in each of these zones. They are 34-40th.
Either way, the Succulents in OT would hate this spell, as with my Beguile they are solidly stuck for longer duration when I charm them with Charisma 149. They may have a lower resist to it.

2 types of Shaman Powder

There 2 types of Shaman Powder. The White shaman powder is Powder of Tsu (the one you need for this quest), the Black Shaman Powder (the one enchanters need to get the Illusion Iksar spell) is Powder of Nok. The White Powder drops off Froglok Tsu Shaman. The Black Powder drops off Froglok Nok Shaman. Both powders drop off the Frogs in FV. The Best place to get the Shammies is near the FV-Swamp of no Hope zone. If you were zoning into FV from the Swamp of No Hope, follow the wall on your left hand side. It will take you South a bit, and then turn Eastwards. Keep along the zone wall until you come to some standing stones. Sooner or later you will see a Tsu or one of the other various creatures (Nok Shaman, Shin Warrior, Drachnid, Frenzied Leech or Venemous Lamprey) stumble by. If nothing seems to be in the area you can keep going Eastwards, but the further East you head, the more spawns there tend to be. The Tsu's are tougher than the Noks, and all of the Tsu's conned Dark Blue to me at 38. If you get in trouble you should be able to run along zone wall and escape into the Swamp of no Hope. Drop rate on powder I would estimate is 1 in 4 kills.

Just all those that actually want to do this "quest" i say that because this quest is more like "a waste of time." But for those who would like to know tsu dust does drop in Trak Teeth which is not stated on this site and it DOES NOT drop in Lguk which i finally realized after killing a bunch of Shamans. The dist is really called Shaman Dust so dont be searching for Tsu Dust. Also the silk is now much easier to get then before off the spiders.
