This expedition is given by Kroggl at the Wayfarers Brotherhood camp near the passage to Greater Faydark.

You say, 'Hail, Kroggl'

Kroggl says 'Me gots big jobs to do for de Wayfarers. Vampires really bad tings but dey gots lots of stuffs we want to see. Me gets to go with adventurers to see. You go too if you gots a strong head. Spooky dere. Really spooky. If you can rally de call of your friend perhaps you can help wit a serious [problem].'

You say, 'Problem?'

Kroggl says 'De power struggles in Mistmoore's Catacombs just keep goin' and goin'. Mayong's young kiddies called de Scions want to rule over de older kiddies, de Trueborn. Me know they hate each other lots! De smart Scions learned how to make really bad monsters dat they are aiming at de Trueborn and us too. We need a powerful force to go and kill dose beasts before they come to de surface. Are yous [interested]?'

You say, 'I am interested.'

Kroggl says 'No mercy. Smash dem vampires, ______.'

Head to Lesser Faydark and zone in from the mine entrance at -90, +3870.

You have entered Mistmoore's Catacombs: Struggles within the Progeny.



Despite the name, it uses "The Asylum of Invoked Stone" map.

Most trash mobs are weak to at least cold and poison, and strong against at least fire.

Undead mobs (rawbones and Trueborn night agents) are weak to at least fire and poison, and strong against at least cold.

As you progress, you'll find a few "Kel`Novar Warder", who are tougher than the zone trash.

The real Valdoon Kel`Novar seems weak against at least fire, and resisted all magic spells even after being debuffed. He is extremely resistant to both magic and disease-based slows.



Clear your way through the zone. As you do, you'll come across 3x "Guardian of Kel`Novar". Each Guardian you kill lowers Valdoon's hps by 5%.

On the death of the each Guardian, you'll see:

The massive stone beast shudders violently as it transforms into a lifeless statue. The power of its master wanes slightly by the loss of its soul-bound guardian.

On the death of the third Guardian, you'll see:

Your victory has weakened a shroud of magic cloaking the dungeon's treasure.

In the northwest corner of the zone, there is a north passage and a west passage. The final room in each one will have a Valdoon in it.

One of the Valdoons is at 100% health while the other is at 85%. The one at 100% is "fake" and can be ignored if you want (although killing it will result in three chests instead of two).

On the death of the fake Valdoon Kel`Novar' (starts with 100% health):

Your faction standing with Progeny got worse.

A mighty laugh echoes out into the night from the gargoyle aviary. The sound of Valdoon Kel'Novar's voice is clear, 'Did you fools really believe I would be so careless? You'll not live to regret the mistake of crossing the Trueborn!'

Guardian of Kel`Novar rises off its haunches with its claws outstretched.

At this time a fourth (spawned) Guardian of Kel`Novar will pop at the site of the fake Valdoon Kel'Novar's corpse and attack.

On the death of the forth (spawned) Guardian of Kel`Novar:

The massive stone beast shudders violently as it transforms into a lifeless statue. The power of its master wanes slightly by the loss of its soul-bound guardian.

Your victory has weakened a shroud of magic cloaking the dungeon's treasure.

On the death of the real Valdoon Kel`Novar (starts with as low as 80% health):

Your faction standing with Progeny got worse.

Your victory has shattered the shroud of magic surrounding the dungeon's treasure

Up to three chests spawn in the room after Valdoon's defeat

Note that by skipping to the real Valdoon Kel`Novar without, "Your victory has weakened a shroud of magic cloaking the dungeon's treasure," will result in the chests not spawning and a reduction in the total number of loot.

These three containers will spawn each with two loots:
Valdoon`s gilded coffin (514, 1256, -5)
Guardian`s Stone Chest( 464, 1125, 10)
Guardian`s Granite Chest (573, 1126, 10)

(also note: I've done this three times now for a total of 14 loot items and have not seen a 15% aug.)


All trash mobs (except below) are weak to at least cold and poison, and strong against at least fire.
Skelly mobs (a rawbone) and shadowed mobs (a Trueborn night agent) are weak to at least fire and poison, and strong against at least cold.
real Valdoon Kel`Novar seemed weak against at least fire, and resisted all magic spells even after HoS, Malos, Howl of Tashan, and Anciant: Chant of Chaos were dumped on it. I could not slow it with shaman magic or disease slow so I gave up trying.

If you kill the 3 guardians, he drops 5% per.
If you kill the fake Valdoon, a 4th guardian will spawn.
... kill that one to drop him another 5% (to 80%)

Kill all of those and you will get 3 chests at the end


The two chests in Valdoon's room are called: 'Guardian's Stone Chest'
The one that spawns in the small room behind him is: 'Valdoon's gilded coffin'

Solo would be a bit hard.

Duod with 85 mage 85 cleric pet EM6 focus.

Some things to add

1 All Mobs can be pacied (even nameds)

2 If you burn night agents fast dey wont split in 2 mobs but needs to be really fast but i had like 10 of them not 1 hehe

3 only gargoyle forms are high spell resistant others not, though i found out they barely resist
the nuke stick, so i would use cold on them :-)

4 if you are lucky you can walk some rooms when no see invis there but thats really rare mostly 1 will be in so
you need to clear

5 need to kill the adds on real boss before boss or he heals

6 i would kill all guadians fake named and guardian triggered by fake named cause i had 3 chests doing that :-)

This could probably be solo'd now, if careful and have a good pet focus. Wife's 85 bst and I (85 mag) both with EM7, defeated boss np. We did have some assistance clearing the trash, but they had to leave before we killed boss, just made clearing a lot faster.

The gargoyle trash are very resistant, and everything is very social, expect 4-5 mobs every pull, still.

Definitely burn the truborn night agent (we only saw 1 during clear) as quick as possible, spawns adds like every 10? seconds.

For us the 'real' guy was in the northern of the two rooms in the nw corner of zone, we didn't have any guardians we had to kill in route, so we figured that both would be at 100% hp. We ended up killing the westernmost one first, spawned a guardian after his death, then we killed it. Went to the real one, he was at 95% (after killing guardian spawned by fake) and killed him using pet dps. Was able to pull all adds from his room without his aggroing. When I pulled the second to last garg (on 'shelf' to the right of named) the garg sitting right in front of him aggro'd too, had CoN ready for named if he came though, but didn't need.

Named fight was pretty straight forward, tried casting on him once, after AA malo landed, and was resisted, so just pet dps'd him. Was able to keep up with pet's heals with just promised 3, reg heal, and companion's blessing.

During the fight, 2 waves of 2 gargs each spawned, maybe around 60 and 20% hp on Valdoon? Pretty low hp on the adds, wife quickly killed 'em.

We did not have a third chest spawn, the conj. aug was in the coffin that spawned in his place.

With the changes to Underfoot and the RS pet AA, I'm guessing a lot of mages that have been putting this off will be getting this now :)

Ok i've done this twice this week and killed the fake guy both times. I still only ended up with two chest.

I had a third chest spawn for me tonight as well by killing the fake valdoon first - a fourth Guardian of Kel`Novar will spawn from him, and you'll get one of those treasure emotes, so it's not totally random... this will also take the real Valdoon to 80% hp (yay).

We killed the fake and the garg (another guardian of Kel'Novar) that spawned from him and got a 3rd chest. 2 chests in the room on top of crypts and 1 in the room behind where Valdoon stands.

The emote for the 3rd chest happened after the extra garg was dead, not after the fake Valdoon died.

When we engaged Valdoon was at 80% health so the 4th guardians dying did decrease his hps some.

Group of Rogue, Bard, SK, boxed Cleric did this event very easily. All in TSS gear except Cleric who is mostly Demi.

after seeing these posts, went in with a guild group (70-80s), all family guild geared. Tank was about 16.5k / 2.6k - main thing was the adds, get about 4-5 per pull. VERY hostile, very MR. all immune to mez. Still attempting but whew, this one's a doozy

Any strats on these? Kinda tough to one group these when they seem to split without any limit on number of times they can split.
