This group mission is the first in a series of five. It begins with Researcher Higgins (click for map image), a gnome found in Barren Coast at /location 230, -90 (sitting inside a wagon). He will not talk to you at dubious faction. He will give the task at apprehensive+ (you can use sneak, illusions, or faction spells to talk to him).

    You say, 'Hail, Researcher Higgins'

Researcher Higgins says 'Oh, hello there, _____, I didn't see you standing there. I've been quite preoccupied with my studies of the inhabitants of Monkey Rock and what has happened to them. Would you care to help me [investigate the inhabitants] of Monkey Rock?'

You say, 'I will investigate the inhabitants'

You have been assigned the task 'The Wild Island'.

Researcher Higgins has heard of an island that is completely devoid of human life, and has been taken over by wild creatures. He is interested in studying the creatures of this island that have evolved without human contact and wishes to discover why the island has been abandoned for so long. Travel to Monkey Rock and bring back creature samples and any clues that you can find.

Purchase tickets to Monkey Rock and catch the boat 0/1 (Barren Coast)

You can buy a ticket from any of the Dockmasters, or from Harbormaster Blumble:

Harbormaster Blumble says 'Well hail! You look well. In case you don't know me or my job, I am the one in charge of all of the ticket masters on the Barren Coast. It is from me, or any of my agents, that you can purchase a ticket to ride on any of the fine boats in the Freetide Cartel fleet, and even the not-so-fine ships of the others that sail out of this area. You see, we have a good deal going with the, um, unseemly folks that run a ship out of the northern coast. They get part of the money and in return they rarely kill any of their passengers. As for the undead, they are so used to doing things a certain way that even now they still do what I ask them to. It's a wonderful thing!'

Dockmaster Weatherby says 'You look like you've been at sea on a dangerous mission for a while? Perhaps you plan to head back out, in which case you're going to need to purchase another ticket before boarding the Isabeau.'

Buy a "Seafarer's Ticket: Monkey Rock" from any of the Dockmasters along the coastline and keep it in your inventory. When the ship docks, step onto it and wait for it to sail out to the Buried Sea. Upon zoning, you'll find yourself in an instanced version of the island. (Next to you is a rowboat that serves as your zone-out.)

Locate 5 Gorilla Remains 0/5 (Monkey Rock)

Locate 5 Jaguar Remains 0/5 (Monkey Rock)

Locate 5 Raptor Remains 0/5 (Monkey Rock)

Locate 5 Python Remains 0/5 (Monkey Rock)

Investigate the Island inhabitants 0/40 (Monkey Rock)

You don't have to loot anything here; just kill mobs until you've updated all of the above task steps ("remains" steps are random upon kills).

Report back to Researcher Higgins 0/1 (Barren Coast)

Near the zone-in area is a rowboat that you can click to port you back to the Buried Sea:

You get into the longboat and row out. You are quickly picked up by one of the many merchant ships sailing the waters of the Buried Sea and delivered safely to the dock on Jardel's Hook...

Head back to Researcher Higgins in Barren Coast, and hail him:

Researcher Higgins accepts the remains from you and places them in the cart, stating that he will need some more time to study them, but in the meantime, he needs you to [investigate] a few other things on the island.

Solo'd with a cleric merc (Level 85). Just need a 3rd to get the instance.

To get all the updates you pretty much have to kill every jaguar, raptor, gorilla and snake, as the updates are not from looted items, but awarded randomly from kills. I think there were a totla of 3 gorillas left when i finally got the last update (with all others required killing all types of the required MOB's).

Did this mission 2-15-09 with a 66 Ranger and boxed 66 Enchanter. 1 merc tank and 1 merc healer along as well. Took about two hours, mostly singles with an occasional double, easily cc'ed by the chanter. A few drops of elaborate defiant stuff and the regular body part drops from the normal mobs of this area. End result 52 doubloons x 2, and was boringly easy, but is a safe and non LFG way to amass a pile of doubloons.

We did this quest tonight and got all our trophy quests before we left. The quests DID NOT update when we looted a trophy item. They may have changed it so you cannot do the trophy quests on the instanced island or our server doesn't allow it (Fennin Ro). We had to kill almost every one of type of mob for the remains to register.

I three boxed this with a 71 warrior, 71 shaman, 69 cleric with no problems. The whole quest took two hours because of trying to pull singles, I did get doubles and triples once or twice, but root them and move a bit will take care of that situation. The best thing to do is get ALL of your trophy quests from Trophy Hunter Locke for everyone in your group BEFORE you start and pick up the items as you do the first quest; if you need any more then get the items from the second quest. All the items needed from the trophy quests are dropped during this quest too. Only problem I see is that since this is an "instance zone" you might not get enough of the items you need to feed all in the group because these mobs do not respawn. But from what I see, you can get enough for two or three members to load on the items for the trophy quests. On several items I was having to destroy because some or all of the trophy quest items are lore. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Somewhere along the line it has changed, a guildie tried to do what I did a while back on the first Higgins quest and it also wouldn't update.

Completed this last night, the 40 mobs are any of the mobs you kill for the other parts of the quest. You'll need to kill more than enough to get the quota of 40.
