You may do this quest once you have completed Noble Sivrn's task arc (starting with "Names of the Sphinx" and ending with "Broken Lines").

Hail Noble Sivrn again.

You say, 'Hail, Noble Sivrn'

Noble Sivrn says 'Forgive me, I seem to have forgotten my promise to honor you with a token of respect for your ability to solve the puzzles that have confounded the most intelligent amongst us... Take this mask. It may seem common to the mortal eye, but for the efreeti, each mask reveals the soul of the being from whom it was created.'

Receive Platinum Efreeti Mask.

Now you will need a set of Platinum Efreeti armor, which drops off efreeti NPCs in both the static and instanced Jewel of Atiiki zones.

Once you have done so, see Noble Phren who is located right beside Sivrn in the Nobles' tower.

You say, 'Hail, Noble Phren'

Noble Phren looks at you curiously, 'Is that Platinum Efreeti [armor] that you are carrying there with you?'

You say, 'It is Platinum Efreeti armor'

Noble Phren says 'It may interest you to learn that Efreeti are not all equal in intellect. That armor you carry is a type of identifier that allows the more simple of my kind to identify one another... Although the armor you carry seems to bear odd markings, would you mind if I examined it more closely?'

Give him the Breastplate:

Noble Phren touches the strange symbols and reads, 'Azia looks to the west, and sees Izah in the far distance.'

Give him the Greaves:

Noble Phren says 'The inscription on this piece reads, 'From his corner, Kala opposes Geza in his corner.''

Give him the Vambraces:

Noble Phren tilts the armor to view it in better light, 'Caza is surrounded by seven mutual allies, and one mutual enemy directly North, while Ozah is surrounded by enemies on all sides and corners.'

Give him the Gauntlets:

Noble Phren says 'Odd, there is an inscription on this piece... 'Lena avoids the board perimeter while Jaka does not, and the Northeast remains vacant.''

Give him the Bracer:

Noble Phren reads quietly as he studies the armor, 'Meda stands neither in the East or the West, Heda stands neither in the North or the South.'

Give him the Boots:

Noble Phren says 'It seems as though someone has scribed these words into the armor itself, 'As Ena faces from North to West to South, he sees Lena, Neza, and Beza.''

Give him the Helm:

Noble Phren says 'This armor mentions our missing brother, Paza, how strange as he is believed to be dead... 'Geza stands directly East of Jaka, while Fana stands watch, awaiting the return of Paza.''

Give him the Mask:

Noble Phren studies the mask for a moment, 'The wisdom of Ateleka guides those who seek knowledge.'

Get a Token of Order (random Atiiki drop), equip ALL the pieces of armor including the mask, and go play a game of order from Mahatototarit. Disregard his text about the normal game setting and play it out according to what Phren had to say about each inscription. When you have reached the proper order, go to Mahatototarit and say, "Done."

Mahatototarit says 'A very interesting configuration, you have not exactly solved the puzzle, but you have managed to unlock a pattern that summons our lost Paza from the realm of the dead...'

Paza spawns by the game board. Hail him.

You say, 'Hail, Paza'

Paza blinks for a moment as he studies you, 'Brother, my time is short, I have done as Xanxionusus commanded... I return from the other side with this message, D`nik Belm J`cof Ghap... Etch those words into your memory, and repeat them to Xanxionusus... Aaarrraaaaahhhh... I feel the pull of the other side once again, I beg you, take my mask so that my soul is released from this torment before I am drawn over once again...'

You receive the Efreeti Death Visage mask on your cursor.

D`nik Belm J`cof Ghap!" the words fade as Xanxionusus fixes his gaze on you, "Although I am sure you acted out of ignorance, your assistance was useful... It would be best if you left now, I have many thoughts upon which to contemplate."

It is not known if there is anything further.

There is great info all over the place but figured if someone is looking at doing this quest these days it might help to have a quick reference. I farmed everything in the main zone not an instance, without issue... just kill all the Efreeti's you can find and you will eventually get all 7 armor drops (the mask is acquired at the start of this quest so don't look for it as a drop). Also make sure you keep the Tokens of Order and Alignment, and 1 Scorpion Stinger since you will need them in the quest arc. I got all the armor first, then knocked out all of Sivrn's tasks in a row.

Sivrn #1: Names of the Sphinx

- This one is pretty basic, any current map set will have all the NPCs you need to hail.

Sivrn #2: Atiiki Tongue Twisting
- Also simple, just copy and paste the words you need to say from the Zam writeup.

Sivrn #3: Order Squared
- Here is where it gets more fun. Personally I did some searching around for a puzzle solver to do this for me, but then I came across THIS you tube video about solving these types of puzzles and it helped me do the large puzzles in very short order.

- The key here is to stand on the East side of the puzzle facing West so that the farthest row away from you will end up being A B C D from the left of your screen to the right (compare that to 1 2 3 4 in the you tube video). Following the video you will want your end result to be:

A B C D
E F G H
I J K L
M N O (empty spot)

(you are standing here facing West)

Just follow the steps in the video and it shouldn't take you any more than 5 mins to get it arranged right and then can go say "done" to Mahatototarit.

Sivrn #4: Realign the Lines
- This one could have been difficult, but I followed THIS post under the quest for each of the 3 puzzles and it worked perfectly. Just take your time and follow each step in the post for the puzzle you are on and be aware of which rows are the Starting, Target, and Free rows to move the NPCs to.

Sivrn #5: Broken Lines
- Same deal as #4, this one had potential to be a pain... but follow THIS post exactly and it works perfectly every time.

Efreeti Death Visage - the quest that this is all posted under and the reason you are here I am sure.
- Follow the writeup above from Zam, making sure you hand each of the 8 pieces to Phren (7 armor drops and the mask you got from Sivrn at the start of this task). After thats all done head back and go play a game of order from Mahatototarit again by handing in a token of order. You don't need to be wearing the armor at this point, but i put on all 8 parts after finishing the puzzle but before saying "done" to spawn Paza and left it on until I was all done and had the mask. For completing the puzzle, refer back to the you tube video I linked up in #3 but this time to finish the task you need your puzzle board arranged like:

D N I K
B E L M
J C O F
G H A (empty spot)

(you are standing here facing West)

Once you are all done, ensure you are wearing all the quest armor pieces including the mask and then go to Mahatototarit and say, "Done."

Mahatototarit says 'A very interesting configuration, you have not exactly solved the puzzle, but you have managed to unlock a pattern that summons our lost Paza from the realm of the dead...'

Paza spawns by the game board. Hail him.... and congrats on your new Efreeti Death Visage.

In case you are using a puzzle solver that doesn't have options for using letters in place of numbers:

D=1
N=2
I=3
K=4
B=5
E=6
L=7
M=8
J=9
C=10
O=11
F=12
G=13
H=14
A=15

I used PuzzleSolver.jar from http://www.brian-borowski.com/software/puzzle/

Will even tell you if it is unsolvable (which can happen).

Did this task back in late 07..early 08. After completion I swore I would never return to Atiiki. Someone asked me today if I'd help them with the quest from start to finish. I just laughed and replied "Sorry, but once is enough"! Anyone who's done this task without help knows wtf I'm talking about lol. 7 years later and I still haven't gone back to this desert hellhole. Thinking back...I think I took 2 years off EQ after doing this task..that's how much of a PITFA it was when PoR was endgame.

For anyone reading comments like this, don't get discouraged. This was surely a pain when 75 was still the cap and there were no mercenaries, but things are different now. Between the puzzle solvers and mercs, a single 85+ character+merc or 2 ~80 characters+mercs can make short work of all of this.

By the time I got my last piece of armor I had almost 2 full sets(3 of some pieces), but I farmed them in the main zone without looking here and seeing the comments about the Gorillas in the Garden task which may be better.

If you're on Firiona Vie, the Platinum Efreeti armor is tradeable, and not consumed. I haven't tested whether you can completely skip the precursor quest line if you have a mask to trade yet, or if there's a quest flag needed.

Edit: Confirmed that you still need to do the precursor quests with FV's special circumstances. I started by approaching Noble Phren, who didn't react when I hailed him, and ignored my trade attempt for the armor. Going straight to Mahatototarit, she ignored me and did not accept a Token of Order. It's still possible you could skip a bit and do Paza's puzzle while on Sivrn #3, but by then you're almost done and might as well do the easy intermediate steps for the XP.

You need all eight armor pieces to wear while solving the final puzzle, but you do not have to turn them in to Noble Phren, because that part is only for getting the clues on how to solve the puzzle.

Platinum Efreeti Greaves
# Jan 25 2012 at 11:31 PM Rating: Decent
Just finished this quest series on my 82 Rogue and the best advice I can give anyone going after this item is to use the instance quest Gorillas in the Garden for the Greaves (and possibly the other armor). I cleared out the 3 smaller pyramids for several hours over two days coming across 2-3 drops of every armor piece aside from the Greaves. I read someone mention that they picked up two pairs of Greaves by one of the obelisks near zone in, so I started clearing that area and still found none. Finally, I decided to look into the Gorillas quest. I zoned it found an Efreeti and killed him and there they were on the first kill. Now this could be a ridiculous coincidence and seeing as this was the last thing I needed I didn't stick around to check the drop rate out on others, but someone else has mentioned seeing them on their 5th kill while others mentioned an increased drop rate for the armor pieces. That said, if you have the t5 journeyman merc then you can solo the pyramids pretty easily for decent AAs and the quests gave me 5, 5, 4, 4 and 4 AAs respectively. Entered the zone with around 275 and left with something closer to 330~. Happy Hunting.

Are there any illusion items (besides ones given out by Spooky Sally around Halloween) that are OLD GRAPHICS specter, i.e. black robe swirling behind them, hugely long scythe with the bone white blade, like the ones in the sleeper's tomb? My favorite mob graphics in the game, besides original dragons of course, would absolutely adore having old specter for illusion. Thanks.

This quest is kind of long, but at lvl 87 I got a little over 30 aa's (from killing mobs and quest turn-ins), picked up close to 10k in vendor trash, and got this cool mask. Some people really hate quests, but I really enjoy it.

The armor pieces were not too tough to get. I did kill a TON of efreetis, but since I had to kill them for the tokens any way, I just looted and held on to the armor pieces that dropped. They all seemed to drop at fairly regular intervals and the only repeats I had were one set of vambraces and one set of gauntlets. The greaves were the very last piece to drop for me, and from what I've read here and heard from others, they seem to be the rarest piece. I picked mine up inside one of the temples.

I used the 16 Puzzle solver here, but this made it a bit tricky because this particular solver always puts the free space (or the 0 piece) after 15 instead of before 1, so I had to flip the puzzle around and face west, instead of east. Once I figured that out, though, it was easy as cake, using the puzzle solver.

There are some really good walkthroughs for each puzzle posted on their individual alla pages. Follow those step by step the way they tell you and this quest will be no sweat.

Some of the walkthroughs for the final puzzle (on this page) only work if your puzzle starts out exactly the way the posters' did, which it probably won't. Just come up with your own system for keeping track of the pieces and use a solver. You'll be good to go.

Hope this info is helpful to folks!

Unless you're extremely lucky with Platinum drops, this quest can be a MAJOR time sink.

It's worth it though, at least imo.

Bit of advice... below me there are a few links to some 15 slider puzzle solvers. I highly rec. using one!

I wanted to inform anyone wo attempts this last part of this task to make sure that before you start attempting the puzzle or most definatle before you hail Piza, make sure you are wearing all 7 pieces of armor u collected and THE MASK as well, equallying wearing a total of 8 pieces. I failed after completing the puzzle and hail Piza because i wasnt wearing the mask because preivous posts just said wear the armor, amybe it was misconception but I wanted to stress the pain and agony after completing the puzle only to find I failed because I wasnt wearing THE MASK. it gets easier the second time so only took me about 15 mins of less to finsish the puzzle, the illusion is well worth the pain and suffering this whole ordeal of quests offer.

You only need to have one bracer. No need to collect two of them. I have completed this quest on several characters, including one just now, and one single bracer has been sufficient.

(Just in case, I unequipped my second bracer, leaving the right wrist bare, and the left wrist with the Platinum Efreeti Bracer.)

TASK #6 -- EFREETI DEATH VISAGE

(You have to do the previosu Sivrn tasks to get to this one.)

1) JEWEL OF ATIIKI: Head back to Noble Sivrn, if you aren't all ready there.

Hail him again and he should give you a Platinum Efreeti Mask (No Trade, Magic, Weight 0.9, All/All).

.

2) Now you need to kill stuff until you get the full set of armor you need.

The best place to do this is around the Northern Pyramids, inside the Pyramids and even in instanced Atiiki missions.

They are semi-rare drops, but you will need to find and loot:

· Platinum Efreeti Breastplate (No Trade, Magic, Weight 11.9, All/All).

· Platinum Efreeti Greaves (No Trade, Magic, Weight 8.5, All/All).

· Platinum Efreeti Gauntlets (No Trade, Magic, Weight 4.3, All/All).

· Platinum Efreeti Boots (No Trade, Magic, Weight 5.6, All/All).

· Platinum Efreeti Vambraces (No Trade, Magic, Weight 4.6, All/All).

· Platinum Efreeti Helm (No Trade, Magic, Weight 3.7, All/All).

.

3) Now find Noble Phren (Level 75) (he is with Sivrn).

NOTE: This step may be optional. However, you may want to do it anyway, just in case.

Hail Phren and then give him each of the seven (7) pieces of armor you have.

He will make a comment on each one.

.

4) If you didn't retain a Token of Order, you will need to acquire another one.

.

5) Head back to Mahatototarit.

Put on the seven pieces of armor (yes, wear them).

Give the Token of Order to Mahatototarit.

.

6) Head back to the game board to the east.

This time you want to arrange the NPC's in the following fashion (position yourself west of the board and face east):

<Empty> Azia Heda Geza

Fana Ozah Caza Jaka

Meda Lena Ena Beza

Kala Izah Neza Dena

.

7) Head back to Mahatototarit and say "Done."

.

8) This should have caused Paza (Level 75) to spawn near the game board.

Hail him and you will get the Efreeti Death Visage.

Gratz!

You can put back on your real armor now.

NOTE: There is another optional step, but it is for Necromancers only.

I've tried to use the programs to solve this puzzle, but it was always too confusing trying to assign random letters a number that corresponded to the number on the solving-program.

Manually, I had no problem getting the first three rows in order, but then the last row would always end up GAH. Only after reading Eqnutter's post and following the link there was I able to figure out the key to solving these puzzles. So, definately check out http://www.waynesthisandthat.com/15puzzle.htm, it should help you learn to solve the puzzle and get your mask.

I insisted on solving the puzzle for myself. Kept getting stuck.

This site gives an example of a 15-puzzle and if you get stuck you can ask it for the correct moves. After a few runs I realized the strat I was missing and was able to correctly solve the one in Aitiki.

I iz the puzzlemaster!

Note:

I thought I would clear my bank by finishing this quest but no . . .

I am gonna have to keep all this Platinum Efreeti Armour. It is a set of plate that is caster-wearable, and as an enchanter I have been wanting armor to wear in my non-robe illusions (i.e. as a troll or ogre I have always looked undressed) like forever.

I have been soloing out here for over a month, killed hundreds of these and have every piece of armor except the greaves. Anyone have any tips on this?

I too was having trouble with the greaves, after about 20hrs of killing every efreeti I could find, both inside and outside the pyramids. Had a friend join me with my merc up and got the task "Gorillas in the Garden" from Head Attendant Haestus in Katta. Say "assist" to him to get the task then "prepared" to have him port you into the instance zone. Greaves dropped on 5th kill. Could have been a fluke, but read posts that armor pieces drop in the instance versions as well. Now I'm off to finish this PITA thing.

gauntlets
# Aug 16 2008 at 6:52 AM Rating: Decent
My 1st drop for the Efreeti mask was the gauntlets. They are not rare anymore and I had several drop.

Remember: The mask is given to you and is not a drop. I had all but the mask and was starting to hunt for it when another player reminded me of this.

It took me about a week to do the efreeti quests and get the 1st mask. As a necro I now have to run into a pyramid and talk to one of the Named Griffins.

edit:

I did the final part and ran down to talk to Xanxionusus. I made myself invulnerable and ran down spamming a macro to target him and say the phrase.

I died and returned to my bind spot where I saw the Remains on my cursor which then poofed when I moved and ended up back on my corpse.

Hey guys. Just thought i would save a year or so of everyone's time. For those of you thinking about doing this quest, let me tell you my story.

This zone has honestly stole my sanity. i even saw efreeti's in my dream once (no joke. no lie). i have been here so long i can't even believe it. i have had 3 Elaborate Plate Legs, 3 Elaborate Leather Legs, 1 Elaborate Plate Boot, 2 Elaborate Cutlasses, 1 Elaborate Recurve Bow, and 1 Elaborate Claymore (all of the Defiant line) drop as well as earning 50kpp in selling trash, Defiant armor and tradeskill items and earning around 40 AAs WITHOUT Lessons being used ONCE. I have killed somewhere on the verge of 700 Efreetis solo (not including the groups and instances and the kind necro who kited with me) and have died somewhere on the verge of 50 times. Ask anyone in general on the Quellious server about me and this zone and they'll tell you the hillarious moments we had at 12 AM on a sunday night with me in this zone "losing my sanity" and us talking back and forth. I've met close to 7 new people through this quest just asking for groups or telling general about rots on nameds. i have had 5 FULL sets of Platinum Efreeti Armor drop plus a few extras minus the gloves since i have been here. THIS is worse than an epic drop rate. PLUS the pathing here is God awful. you take 2 feet backwards and your pet has to go over a cliff, around the pyramids through the pyramids, over the hill, into the pit, over a bridge, into a cave, 5 trips through the cave, into a waterfall and back over the cliff just to get to you who took 2 steps back. Let a mob do that, and you're dead in a heartbeat. And they warp insanly. you don't run past mobs in here. you walk past them so that they can spawn out of the sand in front of you 5 times and hit you and you die. and i havn't even been here half the time these other posters have. HOW any of you had the sanity to complete this i can't even imagine. You really are EQ heros.

So in other words those of you looking at this saying "Hmmm nice mask. Only specter illusion item in game. I think i'll do this.".... Please for the sake of your time, sanity and xp bar don't even bother starting this task arc unless you consider the things i actually recieved in benefit from this quest somehow worth it all. It may only be my opinion and i may look kinda crazy. but that zone does this to people when you do this quest. I just wanted anyone else who might consider this. to reconsider before it's too late....

I have been farming armor in JoA for few days now and have noticed a coincidence. I kill efreeti in certain part of the zone like around a pyramid or other single object. The first day I got two Vambraces around the big pyramid, the next day I switched to the obelisk over the zone in tunnels and got two Greaves, then later that day moved to the other side of the zone to the other obelisk and ended up getting two Boots.
Now this seems very strange to me since all the other posts say its random drops, but it sure does seem like efreeti around different objects drop certain armor pieces. Anyone else notice this?

This sounds like a logical solution to this. I am trying it now, and so far it seems to be true, though I have only camped 3 different places and got 3 different drops so far... will see if it holds up.

** UPDATE -- 4 locations, 4 drops... also I'm noticing, it's always the last mob standing at a location that drops the piece (probably coincidence on that one)

** UPDATE -- okay theory proven wrong. At the 5th location I got the same drop as I got at the third location. So maybe not proven wrong, but at least it's proven that the same item can drop at different locations. Maybe 2 locations per item? Oh well, was worth a shot.
