    This task is given by Archarcanist Kirstmycl at the pad near the market (-866, -603) in Katta Castrum.

    You say, 'Hail, Archarcanist Kirstmycl'

    Archarcanist Kirstmycl says 'Hello _____. What brings you to our fine [city]?'

    You say, 'City?'

    Archarcanist Kirstmycl says 'Well, that is interesting. I have been studying the teleportation [portals] for many years in order to refine our understanding of them.'

    You say, 'Portals?'

    Archarcanist Kirstmycl says 'While we did not create the original portals, we have learned how to create them. If you are interested I can give you some [history] on the portals. Or maybe you are more interested in learning how to [use] the ones here in Katta Castrum.'

    You say, 'How can I use the ones here?'

    Archarcanist Kirstmycl says 'When we created the portals we made many improvements over the original portals. Amongst these changes were some enchantments that would not allow the portals to teleport the user anywhere where they could not survive, such as within rock, or deep under water for those that cannot breath it normally. When Prexus sunk Katta Castrum, these enchantments stayed sound, so you may find that many of the portals in the outer ward no longer function properly. When the Shissar invaded, they further [tampered] with the portals so that they may use them.'

    You says, 'Tampered with?'

    Archarcanist Kirstmycl says 'We are not sure exactly what they have done, but we have found that one must now attune themselves to the portals in groups. These groups sometimes seem to make little sense, other than they seem to be in three groups that go from the safest to reach to the most dangerous and protected by the Shissar. If you are interested, I can give you [instructions] on what you will need to do to gain access to the portals.'

    These are the southern six outer teleport pads (arranged around the rim of the city) - and the two inner pads (inside the circular wall) that lie south of the temple.

    You go to a selection of the portal pads, starting with the one you're standing near. When you stand on the nearest one, you'll get a message and a portal key on your cursor. (The keys were originally temporary but are now permanent - it is now safe to camp before finishing the quest). With the assigned portals outside of the civilized portions, three things can happen - you get a key and no mob spawns, you get a key and a mob spawns or a mob spawns and you need to kill it for your key; if you die while fighting the mob, you don't get a key when it dies, even if you're rezzed in time.

    The mob is called "chaotic portal energy" and cons blue or yellow to level 75, hits for ~1300, casts Whirl of Water (spin stun), Waterlogged Wails (silence), and can cast cleric spells. Some (not all) resist stun, snare, root, seem to have about 50k HP and can be a little resistant.

    After collecting all the keys that you're asked for:

    You say, 'Hail, Archarcanist Kirstmycl'

    With the portal keys you picked up Archarcanist Pintanus has been able to enable the portals nearby for your use.

    Archarcanist Kirstmycl says 'Very Good. Those keys should allow you to use those portals. The keys are now a part of you and you will not need to carry anything around with you. If you are ready I can give you instructions on the [next] set of portals. They will be a bit more difficult to reach, and the challenges will be greater.'

    Your rewards are faction and a choice of dusty pottery pieces or 75 plat. After completing the quest, you can stand on the teleport pads you've opened up, click on the symbol and be taken to the destination. It saves some running around.

    Portal Activation: Dangerous Grounds follows this task.

    This task was not that hard for all three missions.Most of it was running to the spots that took so munch time,its worth it in the end since you can port about this massive zone in munch less time than running everywhere.Being lvl 92 atm ment the mobs were not that hard at all in fact the highest con color was LB,So if your lower level make sure to bring some help.Just use the info on the posts to help you,and the website here http://samanna.net/gen.info/prog.tbs.portals.shtml helps a lot.And remember too the portal to Zhisza is one of the ones you need on the third mission.
    Sanctum portals

    There are 2 sanctum portals in the library, and they don't look like the inner and outer portals. The sanctum portals are pads with rings around them. The one on the east side of the library goes to the SE inner portal; I assume the west one goes to the NW inner portal. You don't need to click on anything, just enter the portal. If you are not keyed for the portal, you get a message saying that you are not keyed.

    Chaotic portal mobs are the portal keys

    One thing that hasn't been mentioned is the role of the chaotic portal energy mobs in this quest. If a portal key does not appear on your cursor when you stand on the portal, you will receive a message to the effect that a bottle forms in your hands and explodes into chaotic energy (something like that, I don't remember exactly) and then you start getting hit. This mob is the portal key, and when you kill it, the key appears on your cursor.

    The chaotic portal energy does not despawn on its own; you have to kill it or leave the zone. They are slow moving, and they cast the spell Wall of Water, which drains mana and hp and prevents you from casting spells, so when they spawn, run away, cast as many spells as you can, then close.

    Chaotic portal energy can spawn on any inner or outer portal, but sometimes you get lucky and they don't (in which case the portal key appears on your cursor).

    This is an excellent quest. The ability to move around much faster really saves a lot of time. Many of the outlying portals can be used at least to return back to the main temple rather quickly. So this is very handy and not too mention offering an escape if needed.

    I was looking how to rate a quest though nothing I can see/click/etc. Mark as an excellent rating from me!

    Do you have to complete this quest to travel to Atiiki? Just wondering if this is the only way into the zone.

    It's simple if you think about it but you need to be careful with several characters doing that task at the same time.

    Since every character does his own task, the whole group just autofollowing on the pad is a bad idea. If every character gets 1 mob spawned that's 5 or 6 at once.
    One of the portals triggers the update long before you reach it so it could get messy.

    Along the same line, the tank should get the task update first so she can then stay on the portal and cover the others while they do theirs.
    These mobs have a good deal of proximity aggro so tagging them at range is not that easy.

    the locations posted above are accurate, but the corresponding keys are entirely wrong.

    i checked the location at each portal, and noted it alongside which portal key i received at that location, then tripled checked the above before posting it.

    inner azia also spawned one. i was not so fastidious with tracking this part, however. going from memory only.

    If you can be bothered to do this quest, 'cos let's be honest, all it aves you is a bit of running, make sure you have all 9 spheres on your toon.

    I had one in the bank when I hailed the NPC at the end, and the 8 on me all went "poof" and vanished. I was also given the quest.

    Quest text does say "be sure to keep them". Doesn't specifically say "on your person", so partially my error.

    Upon completion of the prior mission, 'Portal Activation: Sanctuary', Archarcanist Kirstmycl mentions instructions for the [next] set of portals. Keywords "next" or "instructions" will both prompt him to give this mission after successfully completing the first mission in the series.


    Portal Activation: Dangerous Grounds

    With the attacks by the Shissar and other hazards of the city many of the portals further away from the safe area have become too dangerous to teleport to due to establishes and waiting ambushes. You will need to eliminate these ambushes while you gather the needed portal keys. Be sure to keep them as he will need them to attune them to you.

    Visit the listed portals and retrieve the portal keys. You will find that it is likely that you will be ambushed while trying to retrieve the keys. Kill at least twelve of the ambushers to help reduce their numbers in the future.

    Visiting the portals will spawn 3 mobs. The mobs are either shissar or golems, killing any 12 will update the quest. In addition to the spells the caster shissar use, ALL trap mobs will cast <Golem Slow>, an annoying snare/slow. They are mezzable and root/snareable, and do not summon.

    As long as one of the trap mobs is still up at a portal, none others will spawn, so people can run in and collect keys without multiple spawns swarming. Mobs depop if not killed in 2-3 minutes after losing agro. There is a brief repop timer (2-5 min) from the time of a trap's final mob death, or despawn. During this window, people can collect keys and none respawn.

    Trap mobs conned blue-yellow at 75. As long as this quest is on your 'Current Tasks' menu, trap mobs WILL spawn on you at each of the trap locations, regardless of whether you have received the key from that portal or not.

    With the portal keys and ambushes cleared out you will be able to utilize those teleporters. Be wary when doing so though, the Shissar are likely to attempt to reestablish their hold on those locations.

    It's a little bit of a rough solo (mage, pet tanking), but it can be done. They also run really slow, so any non-kiter class with a nuke or dot could do it as well. The blue con to 75 version heals a ton, so mind your mana bar.

    if you zone out at the jewel portal, then you won't get the item, and might as well drop task and start over right there.

    Duo'd with 75 pal (15k/3k ~800aa) and 72 clr (9.5k mana, ~200aa). Pretty annoying with paladin dps. Used 80/34 2hander from Anguish.

    Took a while to whittle these down. Kept cleric out of silence range. Seemed to be a gimpy AE effect. They did heal once under 50% or so, but seem to have small mana pools.

    Spinstun and Silence made these fights a headache. Keep a good HoT on, and their not so bad :)

    The silence effect noted by the frog is Waterlogged Wails and the Spinstun was Whirl of Water

    the mobs on outter are three ports south outside gate to east... two between gates south inside safe zone... and one to west outside gate, dont step on portal or get ported... Atiiki zone in... found using this port handy to reset mobs though...

    edited... dont go to locs on the quest given here... they are wrong... i tried... inner and sanctum are easy dont seem to be mobs... least wasnt for me... if are mobs can gate and try again... 3 to south outside east doors almost always spawned mobs...
