You say, 'Hail, Solvedi Aldeberan'

Solvedi Aldeberan says, 'Hail, forestwalker. Welcome to the Rathe Bear Preserve of the Unkempt Druids. We strive to protect nature with diligence and punish her [defilers] with prejudice!'

You say, 'defilers'

Solvedi Aldeberan says, 'There are many defilers of nature about who warrant eradication. Groi Gutblade is a loathsome troll poacher who lurks in South Karana. Slay him and bring me his lionhide backpack. Timbur the Tiny takes pride in crushing the trees in North Karana into pulp under his feet. Make him pay for this affront and bring me his laceless sandal as proof of his demise. I will give you my own blade if you succeed.'

Lionhide Backpack drops off Groi Gutblade in South Karana.

Giant Laceless Sandal drops off Timbur the tiny in North Karana.

  • Give Solvedi Aldeberan the Lionhide Backpack and Giant Laceless Sandal.

Solvedi Aldeberan says, 'Impressive, do you have the rest?'

Solvedi Aldeberan says, 'You are now a respected ally of the Unkempt. Wield this with pride.'

They expect us to hand in a 15AC shield and a 35% weight reducing backpack for a 6/22 Druid only scimitar???? This makes no sense at all. Do NOT do this quest as the sandal and backpack are worth far more than the scimitar.

    Bad quests
    # Jul 04 2002 at 9:09 PM Rating: Default
There are LOTS of bad quests... such as the SSOM. If you kill the ghoul messanger and turn in his note, its a good quest, but turn in an ebony bladed sword for the SSOM? Not worth it.

It seems to me that these backpacks arent lore so why not get both schimtar and backpack? and BTW druids do melee. im a lvl 30 druid talior adn when i go out to EK for silks i dont use any mana but to buff DS and the occational heal. and anything better then a FS is better then what i got

Quest Broken -- And Not Worth It Anyway
    # Jul 29 2001 at 9:12 PM Rating: Default
You think that someone at Verant is a Star Wars fan? (Aldeberan kind of got nuked though.)Anyway, I totally agree that this quest is a waste -- as I've only seen Groi once, and I was playing a low 20s druid at the time, so he conned red to me. A 35 percent weight reduction pack blows the lousy scimitar out of the water. Also, I haven't even heard MENTION of Timbur The Tiny in at least 8 months. My guess is he's gone, forgotten, and Verant just left the broken quest in there due to sheer laziness. I wouldn't mind if they revamped it though -- bring back Timbur at a slightly higher level maybe and have a reward that actually IS a reward. That's enough dreaming -- Verant has next to no druid quests, which is unfortunate.

Someone has got to be kidding. Like I'm going to give up a backpack like that for a POS scimitar. At least make the scimitar a 7/22 or add a decent proc like snare. Why is it that druids wind up helping everyone else questing from level 25 to 45 . . . TP SOW Track, and Verant can't create some decent quests for us. Oh sure we get some plane quests, along with everyone else, but you have to have a troop with you to complete them. Most classes get some armor quest, almost every class gets multiple Temple quests, and druids . . .

    # Aug 03 2002 at 3:04 PM Rating: Default
Cuz druids can solo, and solo, and solo, and solo...what do they need more gear for? They already get the best selection of spells in the game. Heals, DS, buffs, SoW, ports, second best nukers now (sorry mages :\ ) That's probably why there aren't more quests for druids. Their strengths are within their spells. Not a weapon...

As for armor quests and whatnot...that might be nice. But I think shaman are a little short in the quest department also...sooo then they'd have to add more quests for them. Then class x would complain that class y has this and this and this. So they'd implement more things for class x. Class z would then complain and so on and so on. Okay. Done rambling. :)

    # Aug 23 2002 at 7:00 PM Rating: Default
    nah

mages are the second best nukers, obviously youve never played a (high level) mage.

and i dont think this quest is worth it, and i think that there are plenty of druid quests. dont act like druids got shafted or anything, as they remain one of the most powerful classes in the game.

Uhmm, mages are 2nd best nukers most of the time, but sometimes, when a mage doesn't get a new nuke in his spell lvl, the drood pulls ahead. But mages still kick butt, and druids still snare, dot, root, nook, then kick butt
    Timbur?
    # Jun 05 2001 at 11:23 PM Rating: Default
I happened upon Groi quite by accident, after looking for him for several levels, but have never managed to see Timbur even on tracking. Since there are SO few druid quests for folks in the 20s and 30s, it sure would be nice to get this one!

Well, these two items are NOT worth the scimitar, but you can ALWAYS go back and get the items again. BTW, it's a good weapon for chasing stuff down when it's on the ropes, saves just a little bit of mana and time spent medding. But if I could only have the sandal(shield) and the backpack OR the scimitar, I'd take the shield and backpack. My 2 cp

well its a lvl1 proc and it does a 12dmg dd, wow realy worth it? i used this proc with my lvl 33 rogue on my Crysised Spider fang and it procs like 4 times a battle with my 190dex.. only does 12dmg at most.. better not be a lvl 20 proc!
    RE: umm no
    # Jul 18 2002 at 5:38 PM Rating: Decent
yes, it is a proc on the regular velium weapons in the mid 20's (24 or 26?) but on the coldain velium weapons bought in thurgadin it procs at level 1.
    Killed Tiny for Sandal
    # Apr 25 2001 at 12:49 PM Rating: Default
I found Tiny walking near the wizzy spires in NK. Kited and killed him. Found the sandal.
Don't think I'd go camp for the backpack but would keep it.
Sandal does still drop, however. Good for a short melee-class character.

I have both items, the sandal is weided as a shield, AC15 sta +5 cha -7 Wt 5, and lionhide backpack is 8 large slots 33% wt reducer, I don't think both are worth the scim, comments?

I think you should hold onto the backpack at least. A 6/22 scimitar isn't that great an item, considering how many more useful druid weapons there are available. I've spent a ton of time in NK and never even seen Timbur the Tiny, and never saw Groi Gutblade when I was camping Splitpaw in South Karana. Considering the rarity of it all, I'd keep the pack.
RE: Scim? shall i get it?

I would get it only if you can get those items again pretty easily.
#Anonymous, Posted: Oct 12 2000 at 2:51 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I think I can speak for everyone on this topic. Please people when you know that someone has been camping for a long time, don't pester them about when they are going to leave. Don't sit down next to them to "wait" until they are done. You might be waiting a long time and then the time it takes for you to complete your camp on top of that. The NPC will always respawn and will always be there. Just ask them kindly if they will send you a tell when they are done and 9 times out of 10 they will. These players are tired from camping that long of a period and quite understandably a little grouchy and become extremely nervous at the thought of someone possibly stealing their kill. So, be courteous.
    #Anonymous, Posted: Oct 21 2000 at 11:01 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) But . . . you can't camp these two NPCs!
    Groi may be broken, but...
    # Oct 06 2000 at 3:32 AM Rating: Default

Many moons ago I was hunting in SK, sitting at the centaur camp. I have spent countless hours and days in that zone, and one time I saw this Groi Gutblade guy on my track. Once in all the time I had been there.

So, he being a new and unknown npc, I resolved to meet him and kill him if I thought I could get away with it without too much of a faction loss. Lo and behold I came upon a Troll shammie and yea did I rejoice! I made short work of him, and he was kind enough to drop a Lionhide Backpack for me.

You couldn't pry that pack out of my cold, dead fingers. After much experimentation, I discovered that it is 8-slot, can hold large items, and reduces weight of any object placed in it by one third (that's 33 %).

Solvedi Scimitar? Yeah right. Even if I had the urge to spend a lot of time in NK and find and kill Timbur, I wouldn't begin to think about trading in that pack.

So, no the quest was not broken at the time I killed Groi, and I have seen Giant Laceless Sandals for sale in N FP, so that would tend to indicate that Timbur exists.

Just remember that in months of play in SK (I spent level 20 to level 42 or so there, with various deaths and side trips in between) I only ever saw or heard of Groi Gutblade that one time. This indicates to me either that he is VERY rare or that somebody knows what they've got and is camping the heck out of him.

Why cant you peeps read the posts before you say how great the lionhide pack is and the reason for turning it in for the scim. And any level 48 druid who cant buy an EE bag for 5K is just plain funny, hehe, havent found any mobs to kill yet that drop any loot i guess.

    Groi
    # Aug 14 2000 at 2:38 PM Rating: Decent
Groi is one of the rare spawns in SK, tied in with Gnawfang Gnashmaw the HS Gnolls etc. He's rare but does spawn. Backpack is better then the sword IMHO.
#Anonymous, Posted: Nov 27 2000 at 9:08 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i jUST TRACKED AND KILLED HIM, SO HE DOES EXIST.
    Timbut the Tiny
    # Aug 11 2000 at 4:16 PM Rating: Decent
Hmm.. I killed Treants for 7 levels in SK, along with Aviaks and Gnolls and have NEVER seen him. I definately think that this quest is broken.
#Anonymous, Posted: Aug 01 2000 at 11:38 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I HAVE BEEN HUNTING IN N KARANA FOR MONTHS WITH 3 DIFFERENT CHARACTERS AND NEVER ONCE DID I SEE TIMBUT THE TINY. I BELEIVE THIS QUEST IS BROKEN. THE ITEM IS NOT THAT GREAT SO WHY WOULD THEY MAKE ON OF THE ITEMS TO EARN IT IMPOSSIBLE TO GET?
    RE: BROKEN??
    # Aug 28 2000 at 4:33 PM Rating: Default
i think timbut the tiny hangs out in the farm field in the west, middle of the zone. ive been running back and forth between q-town and rivervale, and see him when i run along the 3000 latitude line. might be min, i didnt pay much attention, but i know it was "someon" the tiny ???? )
