This group mission is part of a series and begins with Flora Venloe (click for map image) in Katta Castrum. She is located northwest of the port-in area at about /loc 650, 650, -25.

    Pre-requisites for Requesting:
    - None

    You say, 'Hail, Flora Venloe'

Flora Venloe says 'Hello ______. I assume you're the one that Parvus sent to assist me with the Thalassius situation? I'm afraid there's not much to tell yet. Just inconclusive reports of odd happenings with the kedge inside. We're looking for [evidence] of anything the kedge extremist might be up to.'

    You say, 'What evidence?'

Flora Venloe says 'I can't quite put my finger on it, but there is something going on in Thalassius. We have received reports of the kedge being even more secretive than usual, and strange figures have been seen entering and leaving their habitat. The kedge hold many secrets, and we must find evidence of what could be going on over there. It would be most unpleasant to hold suspicions or accuse without some proof of wrongdoing. Please look into it!'

You have been assigned the task 'Evidence of Unity'.

Flora Venloe has noticed an increasing semblance of unity between the kedge and he shissar. Venture into Thalassius and gather what information you can find regarding this matter.

Find your way into Thalassius 0/1 (Katta Castrum)

This takes place in an instanced version of Thalassius. Enter via the northeastern-most portal in Katta Castrum's southeastern quadrant.

Look around for signs of anything suspicious 0/1 (Thalassius, the Coral Keep)

Enter the main temple complex in Thalassius, update will occur at the bottom of the entry ramp.

Collect evidence that Shissar were present 0/5 (Thalassius, the Coral Keep)

Find an Encoded Message 0/1 (Thalassius, the Coral Keep)

Find the Kedge Secrets 0/1 (Thalassius, the Coral Keep)

Loot 5x "Sneaky Shissar Scales" (common drop off non-Kedge mobs in the zone). Two named Kedge (Patrikus Grimor and Brinor Schmidtzen who each hit for a max ~1,900) drops the "Encoded Message" and "Kedge Secrets", respectively. They are found in the library (this is a large room in the eastern part of the complex - on the map, this room is due east of the zone-in point).

Deliver 5 Sneaky Shissar Scales to Flora Venloe 0/5 (Katta Castrum)

Deliver 1 Encoded Message to Flora Venloe 0/1 (Katta Castrum)

Deliver 1 Kedge Secrets to Flora Venloe 0/1 (Katta Castrum)

Speak with Flora Venloe 0/1 (Katta Castrum)

    You say, 'Hail, Flora Venloe'

It seems that Flora's suspicions were correct. Good job! Action must be taken to prevent an uprising, but who is responsible?

You try to zone into Thalassius like you normally would. You will get an option to go into the instance. You click on yes and it puts you in the instance. If you click no then it puts you in the regular Thalassius zone.

I'm wondering the best way to churn out this instance. The 5 scales are very common so that's not much of a timesink. It's clearing past the SI mobs to the Library to kill the two nameds that takes time. But the Library has a lot of empty space. Plus the caster mobs, and there's a lot of them, stop to cast and are slow to react. Plus both the mob density and the proximity aggro range in this zone is small. Finally, the mobs in the instance don't hit nearly as hard as they do in the regular zone. While waiting on a coh-rescue cast to complete, my warrior (17k,2.9k) ran with full aggro all the way to the Library and barely took any damage...

I'm thinking a smart necro could use invul and make a "suicide run" to the Library, feigning off aggro in the large empty room adjacent to it, or in one of the empty corners of that room. Either summon a mage's corpse or drag a dead mage. Then necro-rez the mage and summon the group for the final fights.

An enchanter or bard could prolly mez/blur/fade the see-invisers on the way but this will still take time and the risk of a failure, given the number of mobs involved, will be pretty high.

Of the orux-giving missions I've seen or read about so far, this one has the greatest potential to be "churned out", maximizing the pace at which both orux and necessary faction can be obtained.

    DEFINITELY A REPEATABLE QUEST!

I've done this one several times now, and you can usually invis about half the way there... just be aware that all puddles and fish see through invisibility and IVU.
What we do is invis (with me scouting ahead) until we have to fight a puddle, then fight in from that point. It's usually a 20-40 minute mission but you could do it even faster if you have a fellowship group with a bard or monk who can just run and fade/FD at the library where there's plenty of open space, then lay down a campfire and everyone port in. Mobs there are better exp, so you can just kill the names and as many from there as you need for the scales.

Sure you can build a campfire, I do it all the time for the extra HPs.

I haven't tried to port to a campfire so can't say if that aspect works.** I have a mage in my group so once he's at the camp spot everybody else just get CoH'd in.

The scales are much harder to pharm at the Library since the Kedge don't drop them 'cept for very rarely from the nameds. The mobs that drop them the most often (mephits followed by puddles) aren't found that deep inside the tunnels so it's usually faster to clear those mobs at the entrance until you get 5 scales and then try strategy to move past mobs without fighting to the Library area.

** I just tested this in the Locating the Statue instance. Ran mage to the statue room, CoH'd two more toons and then built a campfire. The rest of the toons were able to port to the campfire using their Insignia.

So group campfires work at least in THIS instance.

Update.... Need a high-HP necro to make this run or another toon has to be the point man to pick up most of the aggro. Lotsa dps in these mobs, including SKs with HT. My necro, level 70 with 7k hps buffed, only got half-way to the Library before invul faded. His AC isn't great either, so he got stunned and that was the end of that.

In any case, too, the 5 scales are more a timesink that I realize at first. My last run I had obtained only 3 scales in the process of getting to the Library. You can actually avoid most SI mobs ('cept the wandering SI) because of the small aggro range. Got to the library and killed the 2 nameds, total time was only 40 minutes. Then evac'd out and it took me another half hour to get the final 2 scales to drop.

So if the /random on the scales isn't generous, an instance is going to take an hour even if you could zone INTO the Library at the start.

i 3 box this mission but i add two lvl 70+ chars that i have on the same account as my wiz. so i get 5x credit. /wink

as for the churning it out thing, if this quest were to become very popular, the reward would begin to scale down.

the herb retrival threads have more info about that and faction

I hear you. But I'm theorizing that things have settled down by now and not so many people are doing any one of these missions enough to affect the rewards. The way I read it, it isn't how often I do the mission, it's how often everyone on the server does this mission. While it may be technically counter-productive for me to extoll the virtues of this mission, thus encouraging others to do it, I just don't think that many people are still pharming orux. I can tell that by how rarely orux is offered for sale on the Bazaar. Virtually everyone doing these missions is spending the orux, which is a good thing meaning pharmers and exploiters have been discouraged or just lost interest.

As long as this mission sticks at 50 orux a toon, I'm happy with it.

Although the occasional insane pathing, and the occasional weird ghosting (I've seen some of the water mobs suddenly ghost deep into the tunnels LOL) means you can't snooze through it...

Yeah, definitely fear the pathing. Especially with the puddles of water. The posts below are correct. Try never to be in a position to have to pull a mob OUT of a room. Aggro range is very small so you can usually move your group into a room, or in the hallway immediately before the room, close enough that you can have the puller tag the mob and engage right where the mob's room meets the hallway.

I even had one case where I COH'd the puller, because a runaway mob had aggro'd at least 6 more, and the CoHero didn't fully clear aggro. After the tank landed back with my group, well clear of the train that had started, we still had mobs aggro the group, necessitating an evac.

Also, KEDGE SECRETS can drop outside this instance. And since it's lore, anyone who has a copy of it, including in their bank, cannot loot this drop off the named. This means you can't get the update. So be warned if everyone in the group has KEDGE SECRETS in the bank, someone's gonna have to go to the bank, destroy their copy, and run back to loot before the corpse rots.

One more point: after doing the turn-in and finishing the quest, the reward option appears to give up a choice of 50 orux OR faction. This would suck since it means you'd have to do everything twice to get both the orux and the necessary faction to spend the orux. But I noticed when I selected the 50 orux, I still got a message indicating a faction improvement with Combine Merchants. I'm deducing that whichever "option" you choose, you still get both orux and faction.

    I hope I'm right!

    you get both.
the left side lists the "options" for rewards, and the right side lists details for that option. It allows you to select the facton/orum so you can see the details on them, but you get both. there is only 1 option for winning this, if you had to choose between faction and orux it would have 2 options.

3 boxed this mission, it was pretty easy, just have to pull mobs to a safe spot.. finess and patience are needed though if you want to 3 box this, you will definately need to be careful and not Fight somewhere that you're gonna get a ton of adds (there are A Lot of wanderers in the zone)

after moving into the first tunnel there are two wanderers that come up to the middle of that ramp which you should kill first. next kill the two mephits on the sides of the entry tunnel. then move into the corner just east or south of the entrance, you will want to stay there a while so you can pull and kill the wanderers in the zone.

yes pathing does suck at certain parts of the zone, i'd suggest reporting the bad pathing with the /bug command.

this step is actually 5 steps.. collect 5 sneak shissar scales. The sneaky shissar scales drop from random trash in the zone, however i noticed that the Kedge did Not seem to drop any scales.

cleric can paci here with Dulcify. Some of the trash mobs single target rampage, but no biggie. The kedge/golems Do flee at low health, while the dervish & puddles are not snareable. The puddles and the kedge see invis.

Find your way into Thalassius (Katta Castrum) - it's the instanced zone option

Things to note in this instanced zone...

FEAR THE PATHING. My guess, it was bring your crack pipe to work day or something like that the day this placed was coded.

I found that being in the same room as what you wanted to kill was helpful. If I tried to pull to a different room, stuff would path through 3 or 4 rooms further into the zone and I would end up with a pretty sweet train.

No repops in this zone. Nice.

Look around for signs of anything suspicious (Thalassius, the Coral Keep)

From the zone in, I went into the building to the north. Down the first ramp I got this update.
    library.

Collect evidence that Shissar were present (Thalassius, the Coral Keep)

At the bottom of the first ramp, I took a right towards the library.

At some point in the clearing...I was not paying attention if it was /loc based or number of kills based...or mob type based, I got this update

The rest is simple, the named are in the library, on the warrior I was able to pull 1 or 2 of the trash stuff and single pull the yellow. The red pull had one trash next to him which was able to be chanter paci'ed no biggie.

Nothing special on the named, no page or anything gay like that.

50 O's for this one is what I got when I did it. Nothing special on the named loot other then the quest items and normal trash loot.
