This group mission is the first in a series of five. It begins with Macon Teach (click for map image), who is located at about 200, 3085 on the northeastern coast of Jardel's Hook in the Buried Sea.

    Pre-requisites for requesting:
    - None

    You say, 'Hail, Macon Teach'

Macon Teach says 'Yar! Ye look the durable sort. Fancy yerself a frightful scallywag too? Well, I can give ye a challenge and pay ye for the [work].'

    You say, 'What work?'

Macon Teach says 'Well, it be the kind of work for a true pirate, but you'll have to do. There be a man that's as true a pirate as ever lived. He be called Sharpeye. He's holed up on Blacksail Folly with a good number of dangerous Blacksail mates. I'm also certain that he be hidin' treasure from Jardel, as any true pirate would. Me, I'm thinkin' that someone like ye can go there and look about for all sorts of things and nobody would come askin' ol' Macon about it. So if'n ye head over to the Folly and see if there be any truth about Sharpeye havin' treasure buried about the island, I'll pay ye well to bring me evidence to prove that rumor. Be ye willin' to [search] the Folly for some things I be needin'?'

You say, 'I will search it'

Macon Teach says 'Ha! Right on the money! I had ye figured fer a greedy dog. Take the ship to the island and see what ye can find.'

You have been assigned the task 'Buried Treasure'.

Macon Teach has asked you to search the pirate stronghold of Blacksail Folly for a valuable sapphire. You may need to search several locations in the stronghold to find where they're keeping the treasure they have found. Be careful though, pirates aren't known for fighting fair.

You may need to gain a Palisade key to gain entrance to the stronghold.

Purchase tickets to Blacksail Folly and catch the boat 0/1 (The Buried Sea)

Buy a "Seafarer's Ticket: Blacksail Folly" from Dockmaster Angus at the dock (on the dock a little ways south) and keep it in your inventory. When the ship docks, step onto it and wait for it to sail out to the Buried Sea. Upon zoning, you'll find yourself in an instanced version of the island. (Next to you is a rowboat that serves as your zone-out.)

Dockmaster Angus says 'You look like you've been at sea on a dangerous mission for a while? Perhaps you plan to head back out, in which case you're going to need to purchase another ticket before boarding the Isabeau.'

    LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
    You have entered Blacksail Folly.

Kill Fruitless Finn Straw and search his hut 0/1 (Blacksail Folly)

Kill Ferdinand Jellybones and search his hut 0/1 (Blacksail Folly)

Kill Bob Bloodbucket and search his guard tower 0/1 (Blacksail Folly)

Kill Jean Jailbird and search her guard tower 0/1 (Blacksail Folly)

Kill Musket Ball Wallace and search his hut 0/1 (Blacksail Folly)

Kill Saggin` Jowls Bailey and search his hut 0/1 (Blacksail Folly)

NOTE: Unlike other Buried Sea instances, mobs found in this zone have a respawn timer of 30 minutes.

First, you'll need to kill the mobs outside the front gate to obtain a key to the pirate stronghold: John the Infected or Snifflin` Beatrice Straw will drop the "Palisade Key". These two mobs hit for a max ~1,400.

Once inside the first gate, you'll need to obtain an "Inner Palisade Key". This is known to be dropped by Blind Macon Slasher, Wade the Staggering Drunk, Edmund the Malformed, Fruitless Finn Straw, and Lazy Eye Sully, so seek out these pirates.

Note that a see-invis mob stands right inside the inner area. Once in there, slay the pirates mentioned, and explore their huts. Note that some pirates see invisibility, so be mindful as you wander around. After completing these steps you see this emote:

Ye lice-ridden, scurvy dogs! Ye'll never get yer lazy hands on our treasure! Come try yer luck if yer ready ta die!

Slay Captain Stinkfoot 0/1 (Blacksail Folly)

Loot the gemstone from Captain Stinkfoot's corpse 0/1 (Blacksail Folly)

The Captain appears within the first half of the Blacksail fort, in the northeastern camp. He hits for a max ~2,800; summons when damaged; single-target rampages; is immune to root/snare, mez, and stun; and has ~160,000 hitpoints. Mobs here can be pacified.

Captain Stinkfoot has been slain by _____!
Captain Stinkfoot's corpse groans in pain and dies.

Your faction standing with Sharpeye's Reef Runners has been adjusted by -1.
Your faction standing with Blacksail Pirates has been adjusted by 1.

    He drops a "Radiant Gemstone".

Return the gemstone to Macon 0/1 (The Buried Sea)

Macon Teach says 'Ah ye found it! This does appear to be the gemstone o the rumors. It. . . uh will take a bit longer ta truly verify this is the correct one though. Perhaps if you came back tomorrow I'll have more to tell you about it. . . Ye may be able to [search] for other things.'

The gem you found appears to be the one Macon was interested in. Unfortunately he doesn't appear to be forthcoming on a share of its worth or more information about it. Perhaps he isn't so different from the pirates after all. If you still trust him at all he may have more things that you can [search] for.

    Note:
there are 5 tasks in this series. You get them one at a time, in order and you can't repeat any until you do them all then you can pick and choose. IF you're looking for the key to the front door and killing pirates on the beach, I'd advise killing the names guarding the front door, they usually have a key.
    -- Morro

MY first time doing this, it took a while to find the mobs so I Hope this will make it faster.

    Approximate mob locations

Fruitless Finn Straw: left hut after you enter the front half of the fort

Ferdinand Jellybones: The first set of tents to the right after you enter the front half the fort

Bob Bloodbucket: In the back half of the fort, top of the left guard tower. Was one add up there

Jean Jailbird: In the back half of the fort, top of the right guard tower. No adds for me

Musket Ball Wallace: Back half of the camp, the hut in the very back

Saggin` Jowls Bailey: BAck half of the camp, a hut on the left in the back

Captain Stinkfoot: As you leave the the back of the camp and enter the front half, he was to the right, around a camp fire.

Note: As I entered the back half of the camp, I met see invis mobs who swarmed me as soon as I opened the back gate. Be Wary.
also, when I pulled one of the mobs around Captain Stinkfoot, I got Captain Stinkfoot and two adds, so 3 altogether.

    edit 7/10/2010:
OMG, the second time I did this, it took an hour ( 85 necro 78 shaman) and gave 129 Doubloons to each of us . The most I've ever seen.

    edit: 7/11/2010
wowsers, after looking thru the list of macon quests to do one today, the 2nd one (chests of rum) waa giving 150 doubloons each.) I have doublooms coming out my ears now, time to hit the bazaar

Once you complete all 5 missions in this series Macon Teach will allow you to repeat any of them.
    Can be solo'd
    # Aug 27 2007 at 9:14 AM Rating: Decent
Was an easy solo as a 75 SK. I ended the fight with the boss at 74% mana and 94% health. He enrages at 10%. At 4k AC and using my epic 2.0 he was hitting mostly for 300 to 400, with the occasional spike to 1k5. The only clearing was the group around the final boss, the rest I just singled out and killed.

Edit: on the Rathe, I got 50 Doubloons for doing it.

Evidently you have to be holding the ticket on your cursor to get into the instance. Took me about 30 times of zoneing back and fourth to figure it out.

You zone into and instanced calls blacksails folley east of a forts door...walk around either way till you reach a bunch o tents...Kill off any of the trash mobs there and they will drop a key ( will update when i log back in n stuffs)... the trash mobs are all blacksail pirates.aggro radius is rather small and trash all cons yellows n bloo's. Had a sexy ranger for a tank. The mobs hit in the 400's to 900's on silk class toons ( me ) ..once inside the fort, hug either the left or the right wall and climb up on either ledge inside the fort that has not a single mob atop either side. From there you begind to pull mobs from the list( gotta update this part too). Around here the mobs stick close together and need someone to split them . I dont recall us being able to paci any of them. Nothing special at all about the named on the list except that one summoned ..did I forget to say that not any of the trash summons..cept for the turtle and 1 kinda pirate. from here you kill off the named from list and some trash till they drop a key into the inner fort.should be all the way on the other side from where you entered. See invis hangs out by door. Kill him n then sneak in and hug the left up another cliff. Kill off those named n the boss by the name of Captain Stinkfoot( lvl 76-77?) spawns with an emote about something or another ( need to update this too ). go back out to the first cliff you started clearing mobs at and he is on the east side of the fort with his first mate and any other respawns that might of happened by now. Kill off an add or two and sigle pull him to the cliff..he cant be effected by any movement changes.. He ramps so watch out for it and just beat him down ,he doesnt seem to hit any harder then any other of the named in the fort but he also enrages at the normal 10% and under . Loot the gem off his body n return to where you zoned in and click on the lil boat on the shore. a zoning out msg on you getting on boat n getting picked up happens and you zone right back to the buried sea. hand in the gem and choose from 50 monies or faction..You get faction anyway from the mission but prolly not as much...overall the mission was too ez a very litttle challeneg expect for trying to pull mobs...There didnt seem to be any treasure at the end of this treasure hunt or we possibly missed it ?

How did you pull the captain single? My group had a druid, rnager, warrior, rogue and beastlord. We plowed through until the captain spawned with 4 yellow unharmable mobs around him. We tried to snare pull the captain but as you pointed out (and I forgot at the time =() he is unsnareable. We ended up with the captain and 3 adds and had to evac. We didnt have an fd puller or and real crowd control but you indicated that you killed his adds first, how did you do that? Did you have a puller class or a cleric pacify?

i pull them to the zone in and decess'ed my puller with my wizard. (single target evac) then as they were pathing back i was able to snag the captain single with my wizard and kite him around till the tank zoned and was able to re aggro him. rampage was rough at first but my paladin healed the page target as the cleric healed him
