This group mission begins with Captain Jafar (click for map image) in the Barren Coast. He roams the area around -2230, 535 (the southernmost dock). There are no pre-requisites for requesting this task.

Note: Unlike most group missions, this task has only a two-hour timer.

Also Note: This task scales in level. Shown here is the highest level of difficulty (Level 73+). You can get it at lower group levels where the mobs won't be as difficult as suggested here.

    You say, 'Hail, Captain Jafar'

Captain Jafar says 'What do ya want, ya [worthless] maggot?'

    You say, 'Worthless?!'

Captain Jafar says 'Aye, worthless. You ain't no mutineer, I can tell that much. But you ain't no sailor either. Just a land slug, if you ask me. Bah, if you could do anything other than stink up the place I'd [be surprised].'

You say, 'You will be surprised'

Captain Jafar says 'Hah, cheeky slug! Aye, I'll give you a chance to prove yerself. If yer alone, then there's only [two things] I need, if you can do any of them I'll be shocked. If ya knows a handful of wretched bugs like yerself, then I know someone with [work] that might be able to get you killed all at once.'

    You say, 'What work?'

Captain Jafar says 'Har! Work! A slug like you don't know what work is. But Undertow will teach ya, that's fer sure.'

You have been assigned the task 'We Need More Crew'.

Captain Jafar has instructed each member of your party to speak with Harbormaster Blumble and purchase a ticket to the Open Sea, and then board the Bloodcrest for passage.

The captain of the Bloodcrest is in need of more crew. He has asked you to travel with him to pay a visit to some pirates. You get to act as his press gang, though the undead press folks into service a bit more roughly than even pirates do...

Purchase tickets to The Open Sea and catch the boat 0/1 (Barren Coast)

Buy a "Seafarer's Ticket: The Open Sea" from any of the Dockmasters along the coastline and keep it in your inventory. When the ship docks, step onto it and wait for it to sail out to the Buried Sea. Upon zoning, you'll find yourself on board a ship.

Dockmaster Jones says 'Ye look like ye've been out ta sea on a mission for a bit, and perhaps yer head'n back out? If'n ye are, ye will need to get a ticket from me before yer able to board the Bloodcrest!'

Recruit 20 pirates to crew on the Bloodcrest 0/20 (The Open Sea)

Kill the Blacksail crew members (the vessel of the living), and some will zombify/skelify into crewmembers for the Bloodcrest. Not all of them do, unfortunately, so you may have to kill many more than 20. You'll encounter two nameds here: "the Badly Burnt" and "First Mate Conroy". These two mobs, while stunnable and mezzable, hit harder than regular (max hit ~1,750) and flurry. They can morph into undead, updating the step as well.

You have slain a blacksail rogue!
a blacksail rogue's corpse says 'Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.'

Your faction standing with Blacksail Pirates has been adjusted by -1.
Your faction standing with Sharpeye's Reef Runners has been adjusted by 1.

an undead sailor says 'Permission to come aboard?'

Kill 1 Captain Black Bill 0/1 (The Open Sea)

Also, while you're at it... Kill Bill. (He's in the top cabin and is more difficult than a standard mob: hits for a max ~1,900 and has ~145,000 hitpoints.)

Captain Black Bill has been slain by _____!
Captain Black Bill's corpse says 'Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.'

Your faction standing with Blacksail Pirates has been adjusted by -1.
Your faction standing with Sharpeye's Reef Runners has been adjusted by 1.

Captain Black Bill says 'There ain't no way yer gonna make me part of no ghost crew! I'm Captain Black Bill, an' I ain't no slave!'

Looks like you'll have to kill him again! 0/1 (The Open Sea)

He respawns as a skeleton. Very stubborn. Kill him again. He hits for about the same and single-target rampages. Like all mobs in the zone, he is stunnable and mezzable.

Captain Black Bill clatters its bones together as it moves in to attack.

Captain Black Bill has been slain by _____!
Captain Black Bill's corpse's eyes dim as the grim light of unlife leaves its eyes.

Your faction standing with Blacksail Pirates has been adjusted by -1.
Your faction standing with Sharpeye's Reef Runners has been adjusted by 1.

Speak with Shufflefeet to get back to shore 0/1 (The Open Sea)

    You say, 'Hail, Shufflefeet'

Shufflefeet says 'Arr! Me be too busy to flap my jaw with the like of you. Do you work and come back when yer [done] or [too cowardly to continue].'

    You say, 'We're done'

Shufflefeet says 'Har! If'n you say so, then it must be true. I just sail this rig. Oh, she's fast. Fast in ways that no mortal ship ken match. So if yer [ready to leave], just say so.'

You say 'We're ready to leave'

Shufflefeet says 'Aye, if'n that's what ya want, me bucko. This ship can go where it wants, when it wants, though the journey will make a landlubber like you sick as a mad dog.'

The ship fades out for a moment and you feel terribly sick as you pass through the realm of the dead to return to the Barren Coast.

    LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
    You have entered Barren Coast.

Speak with Captain Jafar 0/1 (Barren Coast)

    You say, 'Hail, Captain Jafar'

The bloodcrest has enough crew for now.

This takes place in an instanced zone.... Open Sea: We Need More Crew (by Alla naming methods).

Basically justy kill trash until 20 of them turn into undead (they actually respawn as an undead and walk off... don't attack the undead!). Then kill Captain Black Bill and then kill him again as he turns into a skeleton version.

Then go talk to Shufflefeet (hail him and then say ready) to zone out and return to Jafar to finish up.

I invised over to the front of the enemy ship, went in the top room and killed Capt. Black Bill first (light blue at 85) (had one add, First Mate Conroy).

Soon as he died, the next step to kill him again opened up and I killed him again (same name, just skeleton form... also light blue at 85).

The step to talk to Shufflefeet didnt open until I also had the 20 converts done. I did that just by pulling from the upper deck and making my way down a bit at a time.

NOTE TO PALADINS -- you are killing live pirates... not undead. :)

Then it was a matter of zoning out (Shufflefeet) and hailing (Jafar).

Just finished this one. We had about 15 minutes left when we completed it, but we also only had 5 in the group. 75 Necro, 75 Ranger, 74 Pally, 75 Cleric, and 66 Monk. The Monk did the pulling with assistance from the Necro. According to the Monk, there were at least two decks lower than the main upper deck, and possibly another room somewhere because the Ranger had about 10 more up on track.

We got Captian Bill early on in the mission, and his respawn undead version. Everyone was pretty much OOM at the end. Luckily the Necro was able to slow the undead version, the only mob we were able to slow the entire mission.

There were two more easy steps once the 20 crew members were found. Talk to Shufflefeet, the skeleton at the helm of the boat, to get out and then talk to Captain Jafar back on the docks. You get the update when the first person from the shared task hails them.

Here is the text from Shufflefeet:

    Quote:

    You say, 'Hail, Shufflefeet'

Shufflefeet says 'Arr! Me be too busy to flap my jaw with the like of you. Do you work and come back when yer [done] or [too cowardly to continue].'

    You say, 'done'

Shufflefeet says 'Har! If'n you say so, then it must be true. I just sail this rig. Oh, she's fast. Fast in ways that no mortal ship ken match. So if yer [ready to leave], just say so.'

    You say 'ready to leave'

Shufflefeet says 'Aye, if'n that's what ya want, me bucko. This ship can go where it wants, when it wants, though the journey will make a landlubber like you sick as a mad dog.'

The ship fades out for a moment and you feel terribly sick as you pass through the realm of the dead to return to the Barren Coast.

The bloodcrest has enough crew for now.
Your faction standing with the Blacksail Smugglers got better.
You have successfully been granted your reward for: We Need More Crew.

It looks like all you have to say in order to zone is "ready to leave" but I think at least one person has to hail him to get the task stage update.

With the group we had, and a 6th who didn't make it in with us due to some issues he was having, we got 30 dabloons for this mission. Not sure if having a different average level would have given us less, but the pirates ranged from dark blue to white to a 75, with the captain and a couple of his higher ranking crew yellow.

Just did this one... cleared the entire ship, including Bill, and only 16 zombies appeared. Checked and double checked the entire vessel, hoping there was some room I must have missed, but couldn't find anything. Time ran out leaving us four short *frown*.
