This solo task begins with Arcanist Thalian in Katta Castrum.

    Your Location is -121.17, -91.31, 7.46

    You say, 'Hail, Arcanist Thalian'

Arcanist Thalian scrambles around frantically looking through the pages strewn across the table. 'Well don't just stand there looking foolish, ______. Help me look! I'm missing page 634 of the Chronologist's Almanac! You can't have an Almanac without page 634 now can you! I have to find it and finish binding it before I can turn my attention to those renegade constructs and [elementals] out in the city!'

    You say, 'Elementals?'

Arcanist Thalian says 'Yes it's not something the Chronologists are particularly proud of, but those elementals out there are at least partially our responsibility. From a certain point of view...or something. Now either help me look for page 634 or go out and [round up] some of those elementals for me!'

    You say, 'Round up?'

Arcanist Thalian says 'Actually it's not so much rounding them up as it is destroying them and forcing their essence back to the primal planes. But enough technical talk, are you up to the task or not?'

You have been assigned the task 'Renegade Servants'.

Arcanist Thalian wants you to help destroy the renegade elemental servants that the combine magicians have lost control of the outer areas of the city. Destory five darkmud elementals, five elementals of the deep, and five fire whisperers and return to Thalian.

Destroy darkmud elementals 0/5 (Katta Castrum)

Destroy elementals of the deep 0/5 (Katta Castrum)

Destroy fire whisperers 0/5 (Katta Castrum)

These elementals may be found in the outskirts of the city.

Speak with Arcanist Thalian 0/1 (Katta Castrum)

    You say, 'Hail, Arcanist Thalian'

Arcanist Thalian says, 'Why thank you. I trust that the elementals weren't too much trouble for you? Perhaps you've time to complete another [project] I could use your skills for?'

Your faction standing with Combine Empire Merchants got better.

    Rewards:
    Faction with Combine Empire Merchants
    Dusty Pottery Piece

    - OR -

I believe solo refers to the minimum group size needed, i.e. you don't need a group to get the task.

How in tarnation do I get to the outskirts of town. This place is huge, and I do not seem to be "properly attuned to the magical energies of any portal"

Head due south out the big gates. I believe you then go through a smaller gate to the east.

If attempting them solo, try the Fire ones first and see how you do on them before trying the others.

I'd really reccomend going at this with help though (2 maybe, 3 is safer). You can all get the task and get credit for the same kills and it makes it much easier.

'a vortex of the deep' seemed a little slower to repop than the others. It helps to have a tracker along ;)

With a group, you should be able to all knock this out in 30 minutes give or take depending on what respawns you get.

    Soloable, but group is better

This is hard to solo due to the mobs effects. They can hit fairly hard (over 1k)
The Earth (a darkmud slave) hit the hardest and they also root and summon.
The Fire (a flame whisperer) snare/dot, doesn't summon.
The Air (a vortex of the deep) doesn't summon, but stuns for about 12 seconds and drops all agro (the ooc counter started ticking down even though it had a spell on it). This mob heals very fast (like 1k hps healed per tick).

The mobs spawn outside of the town area in katta, the elementals dont have the exact same names as listed in the quests.

This quest is re-doable for faction, I'm not sure what the Dusty Pottery Piece is for yet, but one of the merchants sells a pottery solvent or something like that (once faction is indifferent to the merchants).

    Good luck and have fun.
