There are two versions of the "Protect My Ship" task: One involving live pirates (in zone "The Open Sea: Merchant vs Pirate") and one involving undead pirates (in zone "The Open Sea: Merchant vs Undead"). Which task you get, is random. Note: Unlike most group missions, this task only has a two-hour timer. Also Note: This task scales in level. Shown here is the highest level of difficulty (Level 73+). You can get it at lower group levels where the mobs won't be as difficult as suggested here. This group mission begins with Whendt Goldspire (click for map image) in the Barren Coast at approximate location 10, -155. There are no pre-requisites for requesting this task. You say, 'Hail, Whent Goldspire' Whent Goldspire says 'Well, hello there! My name is Whent. I guess you'd say that I run the [Freetide Cartel], though that sounds far more impressive than it really is, considering that the cartel is pretty much three merchants and some hired mercenaries. Not that we have a lot of mercenaries, and there's always work for those willing to [take some risks].' You say, 'I'll take some risks' Whent Goldspire says 'I have several odd jobs that a single adventurer might undertake to earn some disposable income, if you are [interested]? I've also got some more dangerous work that I can't ask you to undertake unless you've got some help. I might be a merchant, but I have a heart beating in my chest just like you. I don't want to see anyone die alone. If you've got some friends, however, then we can talk about [some business] I need taken care of.' You say, 'Some business?' Whent Goldspire says 'Good luck.' You have been assigned the task 'Protect My Ship'. Whent has asked that you travel with his ship and protect it from attacks. He has also asked you to try to do something to reduce the number of attacks in the future, whatever that may be. Step #1 Purchase tickets to the open sea and catch the boat 0/1 (Barren Coast) Dockmaster Weatherby says 'You look like you've been at sea on a dangerous mission for a while? Perhaps you plan to head back out, in which case you're going to need to purchase another ticket before boarding the Isabeau.' Buy a "Seafarer's Ticket: The Open Sea" from any of the Dockmasters along the coastline and keep it in your inventory. When the ship docks, step onto it and wait for it to sail out to the Buried Sea. Upon zoning, you'll find yourself on board a ship. Steps #2-4 Steps #2-4 will vary according to which version of the task you have: Kill 20 Pirates 0/20 (The Open Sea) Kill 1 pirate captain 0/1 (The Open Sea) Deliver 5 Sack of Booty to Captain Horatio Ongel 0/5 (The Open Sea) General pirate population hits for a max ~1,350. Named mobs (other than the captains) will hit for a max ~1,800 and have ~125,000 hitpoints each. For the captain, your kill target is "Captain Black Bill" (just inside a door from the top side of the pirate ship). He hits for a max ~1,900 and has ~145,000 hitpoints. For the "deliver" step, find chests throughout the pirate ship and loot them. Turn in five of these sacks to the Freetide's captain (located at the helm of the Freetide ship). --OR-- Kill 20 Undead 0/20 (The Open Sea) Kill 1 undead captain 0/1 (The Open Sea) Destroy the magical power of the undead pirates 0/1 (The Open Sea) General undead population hits for a max ~1,350. Among the undead are two named skeletons, Clatterbones and Shufflefeet. These mobs hit for a max ~1,800 and have ~125,000 hitpoints each. For the captain, your kill target is "Captain Undertow" (just inside a door from the top side of the undead ship). He hits for a max ~1,900 and has ~145,000 hitpoints. For the "magical power" step, this involves destroying "a source of undead power" at the bottom of the undead ship (this NPC may not be visible by any means, so if you can't see it, do "/target a_source"). At around 80% health, it spawns a single undead add. At around 55%, it spawns two undead adds. At around 35%, it spawns three adds. After killing the power source, a named called "Clinging Doomshade" spawns (Enchanter mob; hits for a max ~2,000; has ~120,000 hitpoints). All adds, including the named, are stunnable and mezzable. NOTE: it's not necessary to actually kill any of these adds or the named -- you only have to kill the power source to update the task. Step #5 Speak with First mate Fortuna Gelukk 0/1 (The Open Sea) First Mate Fortuna Gelukk is at the helm of the Freetide ship. You say, 'Hail, First Mate Fortuna Gelukk' First Mate Fortuna Gelukk says 'Thank you for your help, mate. We'll be able to get you back to the dock safely now.' First Mate Fortuna Gelukk says 'Hello. Do you wish for us to [flee] at this time?' You say, 'Let's flee' (this zones your entire group out to the Barren Coast) LOADING, PLEASE WAIT... You have entered Barren Coast. Step #6 Speak with Whent Goldspire 0/1 (Barren Coast) You say, 'Hail, Whent Goldspire' Whent Goldspire says 'Aye, well done! Thank you for your help.' You have driven off the undead and destroyed their magical power source. Hopefully it will be a while before they return to endanger merchants in the Buried Sea.
