Wraithguard Lorekeeper Fenegar may be found at -1535, +1430. You receive the task only if you have The White Flame in your inventory. You must also be at least kindly with Wraithguard faction. (need confirmation that other combine pieces work as well.).

You say, 'Hail, Wraithguard Lorekeeper Fenegar'

Wraithguard Lorekeeper Fenegar says 'Hello there. I have heard about the assistance you have given the Wraithguard. What can I do for you, tiny one? Or perhaps you can [do something] for me.' Fenegar sniffs, then looks at you more closely. 'More than a couple of centuries of working with our magic has made me sensitive to it. I sense that you possess an item of ours, or part of one. Have no fear, I will not harm you for possessing it. From the sense of it, this is part of an item of rare and delicate beauty, an item of ice and fire meant to represent the [hope of friendship].'

You say, 'What hope of friendship?'

Wraithguard Lorekeeper Fenegar says 'Hope long lost, I assure you. You see many, many years ago, long before you were born I'm certain, we found ourselves at risk of complete destruction from our curse. At the time we had hoped that we could find some assistance from the dragon children to the south. We had hoped that their dragonic ancestors might know a magic that would help us defeat the Shades of Zek. We forged a staff, one made from [ice and fire]. Ice to represent us and fire to represent the children of the dragon. We sent a small contingent to deliver it to their leaders in their city. Our emissaries never returned. Our leaders considered that the dragon kin might have proven to be foes after all, and we decided that we would expend our energies on personal defense rather than far-flung hope.'

You say, 'Ice and fire?'

You have been assigned the task 'The Shattered Gift'.

Wraithguard Lorekeeper Fenegar says 'Today there is no hope that our people can ally with anyone, we fight for our lives and hope has all but left us. The staff has been shattered, but I think I can repair it if you find all of the pieces. I have no idea how many pieces there are or where they can be found, that shall have to be your task. Just bring me the parts and I will try to make them whole.'

You receive an Attuned Medicine Bag (identifies as "Attuned to the magic of the broken staff"), a 10-slot GIANT container.

  • 1. Find enough of the missing parts of the staff - ALL

The White Flame drops from Whiteflame elsewhere in Valdeholm. The Red Flame drops from Red Flame in The Steppes. Cylindrical Shard of Winter Steel drops from Berzok the Recluse in Icefall Glacier. Winter Steel Shard drops from Blueface the Hoard in Icefall Glacier. Fractured Winter Steel Statue of Flame is a reward from the "My Pretty" task in The Steppes. Combine The White Flame, The Red Flame, Cylindrical Shard of Winter Steel, Winter Steel Shard, and Fractured Winter Steel Statue of Flame in the container to craft a Sealed Attuned Medicine Bag.

  • 2. Deliver 1 Sealed Attuned Medicine Bag to Wraithguard Lorekeeper Fenegar. - Valdeholm

    Hand in the bag.

Your task 'The Shattered Gift' has been updated.
Most of the pieces of the lost staff have been found and the staff restored. The staff is a beautiful piece of art and magic. Fenegar says that you should keep it if it interests you.
    You gain experience!!
You have been given: Staff of Frozen Flame
You have successfully been granted your reward for: The Shattered Gift

You receive two items called "Staff of Frozen Flame," one of which is statless (identifies as "Made of magical ice that containes [sic] powerful elemental fire"), and the other which is a priest/caster 1h blunt weapon (identifies as "Inside the ice of the staff are hot white and red flames").

Correction for this quest description "Cylindrical Shard of Winter Steel drops from Berzok the Recluse in Icefall Glacier. Winter Steel Shard drops from Berzok the Recluse or Blueface the Hoard in Icefall Glacier." -- Berzok the Recluse only drops the Cylindrical Shard of Winter Steel, while Winter Steel Shard only drops from Blueface, not Berzok.

I am a lvl 70 wizzy and have just completed this quest. I kept track and the factions cons per quest were as followed for me:

1st i obtained my 2 braclets by doing "Armor Supplies" quest twice. I was dubious before and after both turn ins.

now for "Runic Ivory" quest turn ins:

    turn in #1: con Dubious
    turn in #2: can Dubious
    turn in #3: can Dubious
    turn in #4: con Dubious
    turn in #5: con Dubious
    turn in #6: con Indifferent
    turn in #7: con Amiably
    turn in #8: con Amiably
    turn in #9: con Amiably
    turn in #10: con Amiably
    turn in #11: con Amiably
    turn in #12: con Amiably
    turn in #13: con Amiably
    turn in #14: con Kindly

at this point i was able to obtain quest and get "Staff of Frozen Flame" I had all 5 items in my inv when obtaining quest so i dont know if the other combine pieces work other than "The White Flame" to obtain quest.
    Hope this helps someone!

I just completed the Shattered Gift quest. I mainly did it for the particle effects on the weapon, but for the fire focus as well. I created an account on Allakhazam just so I could reply to this message. Your post was very valuable in helping me complete this quest. The factioning part was time consuming but well worth it.

I followed your post for the turns in and how many times I needed to do the ivory tusk quest, and it worked exactly like you posted. Thank you so much for sharing the information, it was very valuable to me.

I did the bracer quest (Armor Supplies) twice, and did the ivory tusk quest 15 times (that's 60 tusks) to become kindly to the giants.

Good luck to anyone completing this quest!

The faction doing the bracers and the shield quest will not help your faction with him only the supplies quest ivory tusks are much more faction.

I turned in 10 sets of bracers and did shield quest was dubious before and was doubious after.

There is no longer any faction for the sheild quest.

    Requirements to get to Kindly.

Without any factioning in Frostcrypt, my druid got from dubious to kindly as follows...

    Armor Supplies (bracer quest) x2
Runic Ivory x15 (omg that is like 60 tusks... drop rate is about 1 out of 4... do the math)

Druid got 1.25 levels and 20 AAs from kiting mammoths/bears

Happy Farming, it really pays off when you get your hands on this fine fire focus item.

    Ornate Velium Pendant

I used this at apprehensive and went to indifferent. I zoned, then did a bracer turn in. Was still apprehensive. Did a second bracer turn-in and was indifferent. So the pendant is about equal to two bracer turn-ins.

I killed all the councilors that were up and got two pendants. This is a quicky boost.

    Berzok was fun.
Red flame - during midnight camp group.
White flame - rotting in east pit.

Lost tomes task - grouped no rots - longer task than Runic or Armor task's.

the rest was solo'd by my 75Nec entirely.

The razor-sharp obsidian blade is way too rare of a drop... been killing non-stop in the steppes for 2 days - have killed several of the named gnolls listed, and not one single drop. At this point I'm ready to fork out 100kpp and just put a bounty out for anyone who can make this thing drop. In all honesty, this staff is borderline not worth the effort required to get it. Its no shorter than a typical 1.5 epic quest, and most encounters on the 1.5 are groupable now.

Seriously kicking myself for spending this much time for this staff, but that dam blade is the last piece I need to finish the quest. After all the time spent building faction and camping some of the drops.. I'd say I've spend a good 80 hours on this quest so far

Normally I agree with your posts, but this is the best non-raid fire focus you can get at the date of my posting (and certainly yours), and it's the only source of this focus. Your post makes as much sense as telling a melee DPS player to "just get a weapon with a poorer ratio, because it's easier to obtain". The very best non-raid items almost always take extraordinary effort to obtain, and this item is no different.

I'm merely trying to offer people alternatives to this, if you don't like them, don't do them.

There are a lot of items with 30% focus, and the 5% difference in the focus is Not going to make a big difference in one's DPS. Not everyone wants to spend the time doing this quest like you do. that's a max of 350 more per nuke at max (which almost never happens because focus effects almost never increase the spell for their full % boost) on a 7k nuke, 250 more possible on a 5k nuke, even less of an increase on smaller nukes.. yes i know every little bit helps but like i said i'm just trying to offer alternatives to people.

    30% fire foci items:
    Bark-Inlaid Leather Armwraps
    Praetorian's Energeiac Chain Sleeves
    Praetorian's Energeiac Leather Armwraps
    Praetorian's Energeiac Silk Sleeves
    Pyrewood Earring
    Tomekeeper Silk Pants
    Vine-Embraced Chain Leggings
    Vision-Shrouded Silk Sleeves

I'm in this position with my wizard. She's "wielding" the Scrykin Blade atm and has the 30% focus in two different slots. Switching my primary to this will "cost" me about 30 mana but I consider this a very reasonable price to gain +5% fire focus as well as enable actual melee since the Scrykin blade isn't a weapon. Not that a wiz melees a lot but it feels kinda weird not to be able to do some melee damage with something equipped in the primary slot. The blade is also a rather ugly piece of gear, especially for a wizard. It was decent when I got it but it's time to go!

The value of a +5% increase in fire focus can be debated but for a wizard it's all about dps and since a wizard's most useful damage focus is fire, I think this upgrade is worth a lot for that class, certainly worth the effort to replace a Scrykin Blade with this.

It's also a matter of focus balancing. All of your examples of 30% Fire focus are not helpful to a TSS-equipped soloing necro, who has 30% poison focus in arms and isn't about to solo AG MOBs for the earring. Their only alternative is the range-slot Book of Dire Incantations. Eventually, perhaps, I will get to ally on the necro, and then be able to move foci around, but that takes more work than kiting my way to the 1HB did :).

My real point is that, unless you are used to a class and its focus upgrade paths, you cannot guess whether a given item is worth it for them or no. And saying that a 2.5% on average increase in Fire DPS (or 5% for most necros) "isn't worth it" is as nonsensical as telling players not to bother with the Jonas Hand aug because it's only a 1% increase in AC and HPs and takes too long, and to camp RSS for an AC aug instead.

Offering players alternatives that are not as powerful is fine, as long as you point out that they aren't as powerful. Your initial post made it sound as though this quest was useless because you could get equivalent items elsewhere, and that just isn't true.

Confirming again that you cannot get this task until you are at least kindly to the Wraithguard. To achieve this faction, I did:

    Construction of Shadows 3x
    Runic Ivory 3x
    Armor Supplies 2x
    Anicent Tomes 1x

Construction of Shadows is definitely the way to go for quick faction; the gains seemed to be larger than most of the other tasks. Good luck!

I really disagree with Construction of Shadows being the way to go. While all you have to do is run in and kind of find your way into an area of Frostcrypt, it's a nice suicide run for the last two rooms. I don't know about you but once I finally did get past the stupid ice golem (no, not everyone can find a group or has an uber guild) I found out everything in the back sees invis.

The only way I completed this quest was dropping the quest (because I'd already gotten the first two easy rooms) and coming back as the Kobold rogue. Then FDing before the ice golem, I waited until he was behind me and made a mad dash towards the right side of the maze only after the giants decided they wanted to not be there. It was basically like waiting for the planets to align. On top of all that it was a nice suicide run for each room...I died a lot more than twice though.

I can confirm everything (at least to the rooms) see through invis. I had my own fixed invis (Veil of Elements) and the necro fixed ITU on...still got whacked when I tried to run through.

So, in my opinion it's easier just to kill the mammoths.

(i can't confirm yet if this is true or not, I'm still trying to complete ancient tomes)

    Quote:
Ancient Tomes, Armor Supplies, Construction of Shadows, Runic Ivory

Once all four quests are completed, only at that point does each of the quests become repeatable. Example: I did supplies, ivory, tomes, shadows, and then went back and repeated ivory a eleven more times inside of 2 minutes. You're not required to repeat ALL of the quests.

Yes, I had to do each of the four tasks once before any of them became repeatable. As mentioned earlier by someone else, once you do all four you receive a character flag that allows you to repeat all of the tasks as many times as you like.

I just finished the last two of the four quests in the arc within the last week, and everything worked as has been described here below. I've done very little grouping in Frostcrypt, not enough at all to have raised my faction much. If you received the character flag and yet still can't repeat the quests, I would petition it.

Construction of shadows was the final quest i finished. I got the message you get a character flag too. The other 3 where ancient tomes, armor supplies, and runic ivory. After having done all 4 of those my faction was still dubious. So I went into frostcrypt and have been getting faction hits in there, which as we all know is very time consuming. I've raised my faction to amiable, but when i go back and talk too Thentil strongarm and try and get either the ivory, or the bear pelt quest he says he has nothing for me. So maybe i'm missing one or another quest that makes these repeatable. Thanks for replying back btw, since I'd love too figure this out. Those 12 bear pelts I have are really burning a hole in my pocket, not too mention all the tusks too.

Ok I just got this quest today and you do not need to have the white flame in your inventory. You need to have completed the "My Pretty" task from Cragnaw the goblin in Steppes.

Once you have the Fractured Winter Steel Statue of Flame then Wraithguard Lorekeeper Fenegar will give you the quest. I was ally at the time so not sure how low faction must be.

    Runic Ivory x3
Armor Supplies x4 (i felt sorta greedy considering 3 other people could have gotten bracers and im sitting on 4 now lol)
    Lost Tomes x1

All of it was completed solo by a 74 necro alt except for berzok the recluse which I found dead and pilfered the quest piece on my own.

I've finished all 4 quests and I'm still at dubious faction, and they wont let me repeat them again. Can anyone confirm if this is working and what faction you were when you started getting the repeats? I finished constructing the shadows in shroud form, and I did receive a character flag in shrouded form and the faction hit, then I died, i removed shroud and did receive the reward for it, but by the time I got back to Vald I was stuck at Dubious still. Just to be stupidly redundant, yes I finished for bracer reward, the ivory tusks off mammoths for faction, runed diamond for mana pres 6, and that smurfing heck through the maze in frostcrypt for invis/sow potion combos.

That's very good news to hear! How big are the faction hits? Did you see a noticeable faction increase once you did Ivory 11x? Thanks again btw, I'll now be able to get the bracers x2 for all of my toons =)

Can you repeat construction of shadows as well?

So, to go from Amiable to kindly you did the following 4 quests/tasks a total of 8 times right? Or did you do these 4 tasks from Dubious to get to Kindly? I'm trying to figure out how long it's going to take me to get to kindly as I'm currently at dubious now. And at what faction level were you able to start repeating the bracer quest again? (Cause I'd love to have a second bracer!)

    Thx!

to go from dubious to kindly i THINK i did

    Construction of Shadows x2
    Runic Ivory x3
    Armor Supplies x4
    Lost Tomes x1

i might be wrong on my runic ivory number but i know the numbers are dead on for the other quests.

you can repeat any of those as often as you want AFTER completing them all once. You get a character flag from doing all of them which allows you to do them again. After i did them all once I was sitting at indifferent. The next bracer quest put me at amiable. Amiable to kindly sucks =P

When did Armor Supplies become a repeatable quest?

At dubious faction you can't repeat Runic Ivory nor Armor Supplies. I've got 20+ ivory tusks to turn in too which blows. After having done Runic Ivory & Armor Supplies my faction was the same (dubious.) Might be once it goes up a bit you can do them again for yet more faction hits (and another bracer?!)

    Any1 confirm this theory?

    Thx.

I finished "My Pretty" today and got the Fractured Winter Steel Statue of Flame. I went to Fengar to see if I could get the quest with just this peice and he would not give it to me and right now my faction is at dubious. Will update more as I get more info and more of the quest done.
