The Frostfell quests are active during the Christmas season, starting in 2006. Hargar the Velium Chef can be found in starting cities, as well as near the main bank in PoK.

You say, 'Hail, Hargar the Velium Chef'

Hargar the Velium Chef says 'Happy Frostfell to you! I love this season: the carols, the gifts, the cheerful spirits, and most importantly the [food]!'

You say, 'What food?'

Hargar the Velium Chef says 'I am preparing the Frostfell feast. There are lots of dishes to prepare as the [whole town] will be invited!'

You say, 'The whole town?'

Hargar the Velium Chef says 'Aye, the whole town. It is a lot of work for one dwarf! Say, are you a [baker] or a [fisher]? You could join the fun and lend a hand!'

You say, 'I am a fisher.'

Hargar the Velium Chef says 'Aye yes, a fisher are ya? Good. I need some dedicated fishermen to go out and catch some [rare] fish. They are found in only certain areas in Norrath. With patience, you may catch them!'

You say, 'What rare fish?'

Hargar the Velium Chef says 'Aye, there is a special trick to catch each fish. Here, take this note. It has the information on all the fish you need to catch!'

You receive Hargar's Fishing Notes (which identify as "Catching fish made easy"). They read:

HIGH HOLD CARP

This rare species of fish is found only in high hold pass. Owners of the Tiger's Roar Inn boast that the only place to catch the fish is on the lake the inn overlooks.

GOLDEN EYE SALMON

This species of fish has keen eyesight and can often notice the difference between food and a baited hook. The fish can only be found in Lake Rathetear, with the best known fishing spot being near the aviak monument. It is theorized that the light from the monument is distracting to them with their keen eyesight.

EVERFROST TROUT

This species of fish is only found in the river off of the Nest in Everfrost peaks. One fisherman claims that the trout is attracted to heat, and that a heat source would increase your chances of catching one.

DAGNOR'S BONEFISH

On appearance this fish appears undead. Actually, the unique environment of Dagnor's Cauldron has altered the taste of the fish for the better. The fish are most often caught off the central island during rainy weather.

CAZIC ANGLER

This frightful fish is only found near the temple of Cazic Thule in the Feerrott. The native lizardmen have been observed using lights to attract the angler fish. A fisherman using a lightsource is sure to have an increased chance of catching this fish.

Missing some task stages and descriptions here.

Each time you catch a fish, you may see:

You caught a rare fish!

Bring 4 Dagnor's Bonefish to Hargar the Velium Chef - Plane of Knowledge
Bring 4 Cazic Angler to Hargar the Velium Chef - Plane of Knowledge

Hargar the Velium Chef says 'This is great! Thanks for helping me out! Nobody is going hungry this Frostfell!'
Hargar was impressed with your abilities to catch the rare fish. You've proven to be quite the fisher!
You have successfully been granted your reward for: Frostfell - Fishing for a Feast

The Santug Glugg you want does not spawn until on or around the 21st.

There are several of them wearing red armor slightly away from the one in green armor. They are labeled so you should be able to see which one gives you the quest you want.

As far as I'm aware, they aren't linked to each other.

I think... some of the Frostfell stuff is staggered release and/or prerequisite quests.

Since the NPC is missing, in this case I would think staggered release (or it was removed, but that is unlikely... why would the Dev team bother?)

I'm not sure what's missing from the quest details? You say, "Fisher" and the quest shows up in your quest log. If you say, "Rare" you get his notes, which are quoted above, but you don't need the note to catch the fish or to complete the quest. The fish are all caught in the areas described:
High Pass Carp: HHP just fish off the deck of the Tiger's Roar
Golden Eye Salmon: go to middle island in Lake Rath, find the glowey tower with avaik on it, fish near that.
Everfrost Trout: There's a hole in the ice right AT Maryg The Fisher. There's another hole further north and fishing from the Lich of Miragul's cave works also.
Dagnor's Bonefish: Fish from the center island in Dagnor's. You will catch fish even if it's not raining.
Cazic Angler: Bank of the river near CT dungeon. I had no problem from the eastern shore at the south zone edge.

The mention of light sources and heat suggests these will help so if you go to Everfrost first and buy the Nest Lantern, it's the heat source mentioned for Everfrost and it's a light source.

I did this on my main with a vendor fishing pole and vendor fish bait. Once I caught 4 of each, I turned it all in and used the fishing pail to summon bait and catch fish for my alts. All fish are tradeable and the quest doesn't track you catching fish, like a lot of the newer quests, it only cares when you turn the fish in.

Best place I found for the Golden Eye Salmon was on the stonework directly below the Aviak tower with the light on it. Best time was at night from 9pm to 11pm game time.

IF like me you habitually destroy the trash you catch instead of trying to keep bag space for all of it...you should be aware that the graphic for the Dagnor's Bonefish is identical to the graphic for fish scales...I found out the hard way after destroying one Smiley: cry...and thankfully I caught it on the first time I did it.

Also...if you've gotten a Fisherman's Companion, the Fishing pole it summons is a light source...as well as a reasonable substitute for a bartender...Smiley: drunk

Ok, I don't know if this is just coincidence or what, but when I had casted lev on myself and went over the middle of that little lake by the inn, I caught the three left that I needed within five minutes, instead of standing on the pier/ledge. I had been fishing for an hour and had gotten only the one and figured it wouldn't hurt to try the lev thing just to see. Like I said, it may just be coincidence, but kind of weird that I would catch the rest in such a short amount of time! hehe It's worth a try anyway. ;-)

Can someone please fill the missing quest steps in the description. I do get Hargar's Fishing Notes from Hargar but how do I get the actual quest in my quest journal? Help is appreciated, thanks.

if you have the notes then you have the quest in your book...if you can't find it. Frostfell - Fishing for a feast then drop it and get it again.

I'm glad I finally checked here! I've been doing the wrong thing for days now and wasting a lot of time! (resources, bait too)

Yeah.. I read "heat source" as "fire bait" and went gathering fire hornet wings. I read "light source" as "bait with light" and went gathering faerie wings. Many dead spiderlings, hornets, and faeries later, I have baits, but they're not catching any fish! And... how come it doesn't rain in Dagnor's Cauldron anyhow? What a pain in the **** running out there and finding it's not raining :(

Yeah, don't do that. Instant success with a conjured Halo of Light and Globe of Stars for catching the Cazic Anglers. The nest lantern works alright too for catching the Everfrost Trout.

I get to wondering if my Gloomingdeep Lantern would have worked, considering I had only recently ditched it.

Summoned light sources appear to work for this. I used a summoned Starshine Globe for my druid and wore the Halo of Light (I'd forgotten I even had this spell as a cleric LOL) on my main and caught the Cazic Angler in less than 10 minutes on each character. So it looks like you don't need to buy a lantern if you are a caster with a light source spell.

Unfortunately, neither of these summoned items are droppable, unlike the mage items.

When fishing for the "High pass Carps" this little sentance made the world of difference- Quote:
"Owners of the Tiger's Roar Inn boast that the only place to catch the fish is on the lake the inn overlooks" (in Highkeep Hold).

save yerself 4 hours of frustration and head right up to the lake by the Inn. What took us 5 hours took the other fella 4min even with minimal fishing skill. At least fishing is a useful skill to have...NOT ...:p

I caught all 4 rare fish easily from the middle island, and it never did rain. =)

I also had trouble at first figuring out what, exactly, the Aviak monument was in Lake Rathe. I finally figured out, it's on the Western end of the big middle island, with blue flames/lights on top, along with several aviaks. It arcs out a little over the edge of the water. The /loc is 2451, 1000.

I tried fishing in other areas of the lake, and it didn't work. Fishing in front of this monument works, like the quest notes say. :D

Dagnor's

Not being able to make it rain/snow in the zone, I've been fishing these during the lovely sunny weather it seems to constantly be having. I've already done the quest once with one character, and decided to try to use the quested bait pail for my bait to see if there was any truth in the post that said that they were getting better results with it than with other baits. So far I haven't noticed this bait getting me better results in Highpass, Rathe, Everfrost or Dagnor's at all...same as the Catch A Lot...about 2 rare fish per pail.

However, I did notice in Dagnor's (didn't try it in other zones) that I got more rare fish if I stood up instead of sitting. I don't know why. I only noticed because it seemed I was getting better results every time a mob hit me, and I finally decided that maybe it wasn't so much getting hit as standing up and tried it. I'm averaging about 4 rare fish per pail while standing. This is particularly useful since I'm fishing for 6 characters at this point.

My fishing skill is 193 and hasn't gone up so far in Dagnor's, so the rates of rares from each pail should be fairly accurate.

Ok, this is supposed to be easier caught IF it rains.

Been here for a few hours now trying to catch these stupid looking fish and it hasn't rained yet. So ... is the area experiencing a drought? Would think not and have taken another measure to test this theory.

Recruited b/f's druid to cast "wake of karana", which is also not affecting the area after nearly half the stack of opals.

Caught this fish in literally 5 minutes with a character that had 88 fishing skill - and in another minute with my main which has a 189 fishing skill.

It was a sunny day ;) (So that means to me that it is random - the rain didn't make any difference at all when I was doing this quest.)

The best place I found to catch this fish is on the island rather than on the shoreline. Small spit of land that extends out from the island is where I caught 4 fish in approx 20mins. No rain. Just watch for the roaming skellies and rats.

I caught 12 fish here yesterday.I started with fishing skill of 10 and was in the high 90's when I left.It never rained, so you can catch them in the sun...You can Feign Death and still catch fish :-)

Currently in Highpass. This is my last stop, yay. Master fisher...not that it seems to help much, lol.

This quest has the things that made everquest so fun to begin with. Mystery, randomness, difficulty and a sense of wonder and accomplishment when you finally figure something out or complete something. It used to be, there was no allakazam, and you had to run around figuring stuff out for yourself - like where was the good exp? No hotzones, it was word of mouth. No maps, but I heard from a friend that you can take a boat to the place where the elves live. Hard as hell to run there and took forever, but what a sense of wonder and accomplishment when no elf had ever seen a Barbarian or a shaman before at orc lift one.

Do light baits work? Where is the best place to catch a certain kind of fish? Word of mouth, no spoilers, kind of neat.
