This is the third task in a series of three, and you must have completed "The Library" prior to this.
Wilped the Withered may be found at -200, 540 (west-central part of the zone). You say, 'Hail, Wilped the Withered' Wilped the Withered looks surprised to hear the words of his kind being spoken to him. Wilped turns to you and says, 'It's been so long since I have been able to speak with anyone. Who has given you the ability to speak my language?' You say, 'Moldren.' Wilped the Withered says 'Moldren. . .I remember when he first came to this area. It was a long time ago but many years after the [war].' You say, 'War?' Wilped the Withered says 'A very long time ago Rallos Zek used this portal to open up the plane of earth. During the fight the portal closed and I was left trapped out here with no way to return to my home. With each year that has passed the hope to [return home] is slipping away.' You say, 'Return home?' Wilped the Withered says 'I do very much wish to return home. I have been waiting for someone to come along and to help. Would you be [willing to help]?' You say, 'I am willing to help.' Wilped the Withered says 'The only way for me to return home is to re-open the portal. It was destroyed during the war and it will need a lot of work to [rebuild it].' You say, 'Rebuild it?' A task selection window pops up; select "The Destroyed Portal." You have been assigned the task 'The Destroyed Portal'. Wilped wishes to return home but needs help in rebuilding the portal again. If you can find the resources necessary perhaps the way can be opened again. Loot 4 Portal Fragments from golems in Direwind 0/4 (Direwind Cliffs) Kill the giant golem skeletons west of the druid ring in Direwind for their portal fragments. Loot 4 Portal Rocks from kobolds in Icefall 0/4 (Icefall Glacier) Kill any of the kobolds near the wizard spire in Icefall Glacier for their portal rocks. Explore the site of the destroyed portal 0/1 (The Steppes) The task updates at /loc -280, -295 (portal area in the central part of the zone). Kill the Portal Guardian 0/1 (The Steppes) The Portal Guardian (Level 70) spawns by the portal. It casts Earthen Grip and Stonefist, but is a pushover. Deliver 4 Portal Fragments to Moldren 0/4 (The Steppes) Deliver 4 Portal Rocks to Moldren 0/4 (The Steppes) Upon turn-in: With the portal reconstructed it's only a matter of finding someone to activate it before the way will be open for Wilped. Rewards: Experience Necklace of Warportal Fragments NOTE: Using the three different versions of "A Portal Fragment", you can heal the Portal of War. Once it reaches 100%, the raid event involving Pummelcrush spawns. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Killed by 83 BST, warder, and T5 warrior merc. The Portal Guardian has 120k HPs. Slow (Sha's Legacy) landed first try, though the mob really didn't need to be slowed. Barely marred the merc's armor with a total of 1814 HPs of damage throughout the entire fight. Total fight time was 27 seconds.

What do you do with the left over Portal Fragments?

You use the three leftover portal fragments to heal the Portal of War, triggering a raid event that begins with Pummelcrush and concludes with Demeton, Destroyer of Life.

stop complaining about the way the Devs make things. obviously this is part of a quest to start a raid so the portal was not meant for regular travelers hence the loacation of the port. and for all you complaining about the Portal Guardian not respawning hell this is EQ not WoW. this is about prestige, saying u have completed your 2.0 wouldnt mean anything if it was easy. just like this, the only difference in this quest line and this quest especially is its easy to re-farm the dang parts. 3 chars of medium strength could do it.

the portal fragments heal the Portal of War in small amounts...

Just finished this quest up tonight and am very unhappy with it.
For starters, although this was a minor concern, it does indeed require Small Portal Fragments to use the clicky gate. The magus in the Guild Lobby sells a infinitive number of these and for a plat at most. My main concern, and a rather huge and disconcerting one, is the location that the gate takes you. It ports you in the center of the Portal Pad where MULTIPLE KoS elementals path nearby. Not ONLY are they KoS but several also see invis. I do not understand why this would be the destination chosen to port to, but it is very frustrating that I would go through all this only to end up with results this disappointing. Given the mobs are fairly weak (to a lvl 75), it is a very big hassle and while the risk IS small, it still exists. Will go and post my complaints/beefs about it on the Sony boards although that never did anybody else one bit of a good far as I can tell. While I am glad to have the ability to gate myself to the Steppes, the outcome almost makes me regret the efforts to complete it.

yes u can do with someone else thats at that part of quest, i take guildys 2 atta time and do all 3 , only the 1st quest you have to have them go 1 atta time, but the portal gaurdian part everyone will get update as long as you hve the location upadted

Had an issue with this part of the quest. When I moved to the Explore the site of the destroyed portal, the Portal Guardian spawned. I was unsuccessful in killing him myself, as there were many pathers that I could not handle. When I came back to the location, the Portal Guardian had despawned. As the spawn was a part of the task list and not activated by some possessed item, he would not respawn. I was told, after much deliberation through my petition, that the task needs to be deleted and restarted, and the Portal Rocks and Fragments need to be recollected. If the Portal Guardian is not killed in that spawn opportunity, you must restart the mission.
This is such poor planning on the part of developers (to add to several other pieces of poor planning) I kind of think they were sitting around in a bar half drunk when they made up the details. I also died on this part and while I was summoning and getting back a higher level Druid showed up to camp the Elementals and Killed the Guardian. Of course logic would say to just let you respawn the Guardian in case you die (which of course NEVER happens in EQ) but it's set up where you have one chance and one chance only which makes no sense for a SOLO task. On a 75 Wizard I owned him np but on a 70 Ranger I didn't resist root and was dead before I could move. Having him spawn under the rock where you cannot see him and requiring you to uninvis to pull (which gets 1 or 2 roamers nearby to add in) is another example of poor planning. To add insult to injury I cannot get the damn task again evn though I deleted the failed one Wilpred just says I do not have anything for someone of your abilities as if I've done it already.
It was extremely difficult to get the parts for the task and took me several months work. The drops are from barely soloable at 70 mobs in Icefall and non-soloable at 70 mobs in DW and on my server if you aren't at least almost 75 you don't get groups in DW. Now that I finally have all the pieces the best I can hope for when the GMs finally get around to my petition in a year or so is to have to redo the task all over whoopee thanks GMS good job on this task I appreciate you wasting my time.

Since it's a kill task, you could have just grouped with someone else that was approaching that stage in the quest, and you'd both have gotten the Kill credit?
