This raid expedition begins with Chaenz Abella in the Commonlands tunnel (keyword: "interested").

You say, 'Hail, Chaenz Abella'

Chaenz Abella gleams at you eagerly. 'Greetings, Bobbybick! Such hustle and bustle about, it's amazing how far the Wayfarer's Brotherhood has come in such a short time! I've been charged with welcoming new recruits while Morden is off exploring. In the meantime, I've got to focus on my duties. As always we could use stalwart lads and lasses to help us with our adventuring! If you can rally the call of your friends perhaps you can help us with a serious [problem].'

You say, 'problem'

Chaenz Abella says, 'Our scout, Nevlen, just got back from the Rujarkian Hills after looking into a rumor of a huge stockpile of ill-gotten orcish treasure. He and his companion Crispen discovered that the rumor was true! We want to go back in and search for more of the treasure, but we have been told the orcs may be waiting for our arrival. We need to you get down there quickly to gather more samples from their stores before they move them! Are you [interested]?'

You say, 'interested'

Chaenz Abella says, 'Splendid! You should begin right away, but keep on your guard while searching for the treasure. They may be waiting for you.'

The Rujarkian Hills: Hidden Vale of Deceit is now available to you.

Head to South Ro to location +5, -205 to zone into the instance.

Optional: Speak to Crispen Koloff inside of the expedition to learn more about what is going on.

You say, 'Hail, Crispen Koloff'

Crispen Koloff says, 'At last the raiding party has arrived! I feared that Nevlen might not have made it back with the treasure samples. We were lucky to escape with our lives with those orcs bearing down on us like they were. In any case, it's good that you're finally here. Since Nevlen left I've been skulking about in the shadows hiding from any patrols that wander by. I've found out some disturbing [news] that will make your journey to the treasure that much more difficult.'

You say, 'news'

Crispen Koloff says, 'It started with an increase in the number of orcs all through the caves here. I think they caught on that someone might be trying to steal their treasure so they sent reinforcements to protect it. But that's not the [worst of it].'

You say, 'worst of it'

Crispen Koloff says, 'Some of the orcs here are... different. They've been experimenting on some of their own kind and turning them into something awful. I overheard one of the patrols talking about samples being extracted from local fauna. From what I could gather, when the samples are combined by some researchers and given to these orcs, they turn into ferocious beasts more powerful than any orc they'd ever seen. [There's more] though.'

You say, 'There's more'

Crispen Koloff says, 'Indeed there is. The beasts are being held separate from each other so none of the samples can get contaminated before they're combined by the researchers. You're going to need to find the creatures they're extracting the samples from and destroy them. Hopefully, at least for now, that will stop them from creating any more of these orc mutations. That's not the [last of it], though.'

You say, 'last of it'

Crispen Koloff says, 'The last of it requires you to find the researchers and destroy them before they can proceed any further with these creations. Who knows what kind of problems they could cause if let loose on the outside world. Hopefully, once that's done, you'll be able to make your way to the treasure unhindered.'

NOTE: Trash mobs in "Fancy" looking armor are considered "named" and will drop one of many common Rujarkan-Themed loots that are also found in most regular group LDoN tasks.

Each room consists of a dozen or more trash NPCs. Pulls rooms are tightly packed and mobs have a pretty large social aggro radius.
Trash hits for around 800 max but many will backstab for a few thousand if given the opportunity. Trash mobs do not summon and are susceptible to crowd control methods.

To progress in the mission and receive all possible chests the raid will need to defeat four "Violent Research Subject" found in multiple rooms throughout the zone, requiring quite a bit of trash clearing or some very amazing pulling. Each Violent Research Subject has a "Steelslave Research Assistant" who will not engage in combat and will run off towards the northeastern most room when the subject is defeated then promptly despawn. Research Subjects hit for around 2700 damage and will summon when damaged, they also single target rampage.

Once all four Violent Research Subjects are defeated the raid should move towards the northeastern section of the map, where three "Steelslave Researcher" can be found. These three can be split from eachother and should be as they each hit for around 2650 damage and cast basic cleric spells. Kill all three to unlock one of the potential chests and spawn the final encounter.

Your victory has weakened a shroud of magic cloaking the dungeon's treasure.

Now the raid should backtrack a bit and head to the far west part of the map where you will encounter the boss of the expedition along with some mini "Flawless Experimental Brutes". The Brutes are quite strong and should be properly split pulled, each hitting for 2650, Single Rampaging, and have the ability to Backstab.

Once the Brutes are dead across the bridge you will see the "Flawless Experimental Battlelord", the boss of the expedition, flanked by two Research Assistants. These three mobs are aggro linked. In order to get all three chests at the end of the expedition, the two Research Assistants must be killed before the Battlelord.

The Battlelord hits for around 3650, can backstab for 13000 (ouch) and has a single target knockback/memblur "Throw" which also does 3000 damage to his current target. After a period of time (how long?) he will summon 6 "Flawed Mutation" adds which hit for around 1000.

Multiple chests and barrels spawn with loot once this event is complete. The final chests can be found surrounding/inside the wagon south of the bridge in the same room as the final boss.

Known raid loot from this event (Two items per chest, can receive duplicates):

The Splintering Barrel
Weighted Stone of Prowess
Orcish Tattered Shroud
Anomalous Rock of Alteration
Researcher's Exacting Ore
Researcher's Stone of Power

The Bloody Barrel
Light Stone of Life
Velrek's Enchanted Prism
Enchanted Stone of Research
Torn Robe of the Tormented
Polished Gemstone of Aggression
Singing Stone Bracer

Researcher's Box of Supplies
Experimental Smoldering Stone
Smooth Stone of Blissful Tranquility
Experimental Gem of Haste
Ringed Stone of Advantage
Experimental Gem of Enhanced Protection

Pull the final 3 bosses to the closest crossroads and you don't have to worry about the summoned adds nor get thrown into the river. You just have to make sure to kill the two Assistants BEFORE the boss, to get all 3 chests. Much easier strat. The two Assistants might leash back so you might need multiple pullers but all 3 will run out of their room if pulled properly.

Trust me, makes the raid much easier.

Been awhile since this quest got any love. Went through it today and improved the writeup to hopefully clear up any potential confusion.

The only thing I'm not clear about is where the Flawed Experimental Brutes come from, possibly if you don't kill the 4 Violent Research subjects before the Researchers it will cause them to spawn and only give you two chests?

Found some more loot reward augs that weren't properly listed for this LDoN. The "Researcher's Stone of Power" and "Smooth Stone of Blissful Tranquility" have both been added as possible chest rewards. Loot drops for individual chests have also been updated in case anyone is looking for a particular drop.

Doing this raid is totally SillyFun!

There were a total of 74 lootable objects, mostly barrels, followed by boxes, and a single /openable weapon rack. Between those and 256 corpses, you need to have one person dedicated to just looting. We had a blast pulling huge trains and slaughtering all those not-so-innocent orcs.

Follow up, after second run:

Flawed Mutations are definitely time-based. I went full burn from engage this time, killed both the Researchers and got named down to 32% before he summoned the first wave.

I'm not entirely sure the knockback is what's causing the memblur, I think it might have something to do with the mutations, but I didn't have 3 toons for spell awareness so /shrug.

The 3 loot chests are called: Researcher`s Box of Supplies, The Bloody Barrel, and The Splintering Barrel.

Got Spec Alt aug and bard bracer this time, so I'm done :)

Here's how it went for me:

Killed 4 "Violent Research Subjects", freeing the "Steelslave Research Assistants". These ran off to an unknown location, I didn't have to kill them (they weren't in Top Middle <north> room).

Killed 3 "Steelslave Researcher" in the Hostage room (3 pull).

Killed 3 "Experimental Research Brute"s in Boss room (Single, then double pull).

Killed the boss "Flawless Experimental Battlelord" with his 2 Mini's "Steelslave Researcher" (not splittable I suppose).

Everything was to be expected up until the boss, as mentioned the trash is mostly hasted and it's quite packed (lots of it). The boss definitely memwipes when he procs the knockback. Basically I had about a minute to burn before it summoned 6 x "Flawed Mutations" from the pile. After that it gets crazy with memwipe and random summon pingpong from mutations. The first set of 6 appeared to despawn after a minute or so, then a minute after that 6 more were summoned, which stayed up until they were killed (after boss and mini's).

Three Ornate Stone Battle Hammers dropped, 2 from random trash with the 'well armored' model. Third was wielded by the end boss which made the fight much more annoying due to the reflection proc.

The three loot chests are by the wagon, Bloody Barrel, Researchers Crate of Supplies, and something else. Don't bother with the dozens of non-named barrels/boxes, they just have regular LDoN augs/pots/etc in them.

Also saw Orcish Tattered Shroud from a loot barrel.

There are actually four Violent Research Subjects throughout the mission that must be extirpated before the researchers become active; I believe they hit for ~2,950 max, not often, and could either flurry or rampage. There are three "mini" named en route to the final boss, they seem to have a decent chance at dropping the items (that are very decent towards tribute) that are otherwise peppered throughout the rest of the mission, and the boss himself is surrounded by two main guards that appear to be linked no matter what. His knockback also may be a blur, but I'm not positive if that's just because my "tank" was flung out of range (either way, be prepared). Of the LDoN raids I've done, the enemies in this one felt the least resistant, but I generally stuck to fire anyway.

Trash can be rooted, none of it hits very hard (though they tend to be hasted), and the goblin/orc models can be headshot for a relatively quick clearance... assuming you can actually drag a ranger along with you. The "chests" are located to the left of where the final orc stood; a crate and two barrels sitting atop a cart (they have unique names that escape me at this time). The Anomalous rock dropped for me in one of the barrels.
Don't forget the barrels and chests!

In the final room the named mobs do indeed drop items directly (off their corpses), but don't forget to destroy and loot all of the barrels/crates/chests in that final room.

We were after the Anomalous Rock of Alteration and Singing Stone Bracer and found 2 of the augs in a barrel/crate in a cart, and the bracer in another barrel in that area.

Lots of trash to clear. The trash did drop items such as https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=23610 - one in each instance we did. Maybe 10 or so items like this dropped which I'm told are good tribute as well.

The expo has a 2.5 hour limit. We did the event with a bard/cleric/cleric/mag/necro all with a mix of Solteris to Crystallos raid gear, the only difficulty at all was the adds from the final boss (see previous post on strat).

4 of the loots up there are from single group hard missons. Only the 2 augs and singing stone bracer are from the raid.
