Find Gunlok Jure (Paladin Guildmaster) in the Paladin guild hall in North Kaladim. He's on Find (Ctrl+F). He's on Clerics of Underfoot faction.

    You say, 'Hail, Gunlok Jure'

Gunlok Jure says 'Hail, _____! Bow before the greatness of the Clerics of Underfoot! It is good to be a paladin in such an order as ours - to fight the good fight and defend Kaladim from the evil and undead. If you be a paladin, then I pray you find the [courage to battle the undead].'

You say, 'I have the courage to battle the undead'

Gunlok Jure says 'Yes!! To battle the undead is our greatest call. There has been a rise in the number of dwarven skeletons seen in the Butcherblocks. If you are a true member of this order, I shall reward you for the return of four bone chips. We shall defend our land from evil!'

You can now turn in bone chips in stacks.

Gunlok Jure says 'You have done well. We thank you for your deed with this humble reward. The power behind the raising of our dead shall soon be found. You will earn more respect with more bone chips. I only wish you could assist in the return of the [remains of Cromil].'

You will receive faction, a random minor item, some silver, and some copper.

Your faction standing with Clerics of Underfoot has been adjusted by 10.
Your faction standing with Kazon Stormhammer has been adjusted by 10.
Your faction standing with Miner's Guild 249 has been adjusted by 7.

Note: quest experience changes of 2016 nerfed this quest hard in that respect

    Great quest as always
    # Aug 28 2003 at 3:27 AM Rating: Decent
The only trouble I have had recently with this type of quest is that you used to be able to give 4 stacks of 4 bone chips at once (16), whereas now you can only hand in 4 unstacked bone chips at a time, total (4). The experience has not been nerfed, but if you stack bone chips, you will not get credit for them, so it might seem as if experience is less.

Anyhow, I had just dinged 6 with my erudite paladin killing stuff in Butcherblock Mountains before doing this quest. Two stacks of bone chips got me from indifferent to amiable. A third stack of bone chips dinged me to level 7.

You have to turn in bone chips unstacked for it to work, I did the 4 bone chips stacked and didn't work, so I unstacked them and gave him 4 unstacked and it worked.

I have a problem with this Quest, I am a Dwarf Paladin and so should have great faction with Gunlok Jure, but when I hand him 4 bone chips he replies with I asked for 4 Skeleton remains - eh?
I thought I just did that?

I have repeated this 3 times and nothing as come of it - just keep getting the same reply.

Help! I wanna actually complete one quest - I have just dinged at 9 without completing any quests yet, and I wanna get my levels up by not just battling away. Please help. it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

    24th July 2003
30 stacks turned in (600 chips)
got to level 4 (half way to 5)
forget this quest, no idea why they would nerf it some 4 years after they made it, my guess would be it was nerfed with the patch that level restricted C3

in either case you are much faster just 2-boxing to get to 4 and a half, or heck, even naked with a decent twink melee weapon you will level faster than turning in chips, forget this quest

Hmm last time i chked wasnt this quest more for faction that exp? If you want an exp turn in go farm DF belts in EC and turn them in to freeport
    RE: nerfed?

Actually this quest was great exp past level 10. They recently nerfed it, at level 1 I turned in 6 stacks of bone chips and didn't hit level 2.

P.S. They also nerfed the hell out of the DF belt turn in quests in Freeport.

??? you got that little exp? I ran my lvl 4 froggy shaman to him with 12 stacks of chips, at lvl 4 I got like 1 1/2 Yellows on exp bar per turn-in, Dinged after only a few, I left there more then halfway to level 9! That is great exp in my book, I had been saving chips that my main colloected for some time and needed bank space so did this quest, went from aprehensive to kindly also.
    8 % xp

    Received 8% experience per turn-in as a level 5.

The Kaladim bone chip quest complete guide

    Tested 3/3/03
Byelka from the Seventh Hammer server
(and no it was not tested on my main Byelka which by the
    way means squirell in russian!)

In North Kaladim turn in 4 bone chips to Gunlok Jure
(these need to be unstacked 1 in each slot)

His location is pos 1312, pos 157, pos 37

After giving him the bone chips he give you the following

    1) about 10 silver and 10 copper
    2) a random item (dwarven armor/weapon or lamp)
    3) faction with Clerics of Underfoot, Kazon StormHammer, Miners Guild 249
    4) and some experience

I tested this quest on 2 freshly created character no exp on them at all one
was a gnome enchanter agnostic and one was a hie elf magician tunare the
results were the same in both test. (I managed to take my enchanter from lvl 1
    to lvl 16)

    Here are the results

    Experience table

*a set is 4 bone chips

so it takes 20 8-slot bags to go from lvl 1 to lvl 16
    only 2 for 1 - 9

It took me 2 hours to go from lvl 1 to lvl 11 but I was calculating all the data and writing it down I imagine
you could go to 16 in less then 2 hours

This is one of the best and easiest quests I have done. Go to a newbie zone and buy all the bone chips you can. Then go see this guy. You give him the chips and you get some silver and copper and a rusty weapon, small patchwork armor, or a light source. You can do this quest at apprehensive and with enough bone chips, you can go to amiable. Also, great xp at low levels. I turned in 5 stacks at 5 and went to 7 almost 8.

My Iksar monk is now Warmly (maxed) faction with the Dorf Warriors/Guards. So now he's handing in CB belts until those factions are maxed. From their he is going to raise his Kaladim Rogues faction, then head to the Paladin's guild to hand in bonechips. With all that work done, he will be able to walk around all parts of Kaladim.

My Monk is also able to walk around all parts of Kelethin, except the Bards Guild hall and the Rogue's guild and Bank. Still slowly raising Rogue's/Banker faction. Bards faction can't be raised sadly.

Just need to finish off the Caster guild faction in Felewithe, by turning in Batwings and all of Felewithe will be done as well.

My next projects are Ak'Anon and Rivervale. Faction work is slow and tedious at times, but I find it rewarding to be able to go places other "Evil" races can't go.
    RE: bard faction
    # May 19 2003 at 9:54 AM Rating: Decent
Bard faction can be raised by delivering mail for them you just have to raise one city's faction to get the mail then have an enchanter change your form to a liked race and boom you can get bard faction you can have the enchanter change your for in the first city if you don't have good faction with the guard then do it it will raise your faction with all bard guilds in norath.

The Kelethin Bards are on Songweaver faction and that is almost impossible to raise, unless you are a Bard and maybe even a Woodelf Bard. There is sadly no real way for me to raise Kelethin Bards as an Iksar Monk. My Iksar is already Indifferent with Antonican League of Bards.

On a great note, my Iksar is now welcome threw out Felwithe. he can bank there now and visit the Magic User guilds. There's not a place he can't sit and chat in Felwithe now.
Still haven't gotten around to finishing off Kaladim factions yet.

Just wanted to let you guys know I appreciate you posting the information about areas to get some of these quests set up. Ive been hunting aquas in Kaladim for a long time, then always hoofing it back to Qeynos with my pally to sell. Was very nice to find a quest where I can get faction here, without sending peg leg and his gang to hell every ten minutes :P Thanks alot guys!

IMHO, this is one of the better newbie quests out there, even if you are not a Dwarf Cleric or Paladin. The XP is good, and the rewards are fairly decent. Granted the money you get from a set of 4 chips isn't all that hot, but it adds up, especially if you turn in a lot of chips. And the items you get can be sold for a small profit too. There are other quests out there that use bone chips, but this one I think is one of the best.

I went to Gunlok with 628 bone chips (almost 4 backpacks full) with a brand new Halfing Warrior *insert laughter here* Anyhow, I was turning them in 16 at a time (4 stacks of 4, as far as I know, this is the most you can turn in at a time and get credit for them all) and keeping track of experience/money. It went pretty quick at first (took 272 to get to level 8) and started tapering off after that (112 to get from 8 to 9, 128 to get from 9 to 10, and the final 116 got me two yellow bubbles into 10) After selling all the rusty weapons and the armor (at Cha 60) I had almost 23pp worth, mostly in silver and copper.

I'm sure it's possible to get to 60 with this, but it would take a mega-massive mountain of bone chips to do it, and lots & lots of clicking. And, as mentioned in other posts, playing stat catch-up would be hell. It'll be bad enough at level 10. Casters have it easier, though, since they can practice their skills outside of combat.

One final note, I'm up to "regards you as an ally" with faction, but haven't maxed out yet. Hopefully this will help you know what to expect from this quest.

The best place to start this quest is Everfrost. With the Nexus its a lot easier to get your newbie character up to Everfrost. I would do this as soon as possible(as close to level 1 as you can). Getting to Qeynos from the NK spires is easy, just run along the river until you hit the Barbarian fishing camp (i usually swim it to get that skill up) then run with the mountain on your left until you reach the path to the QH zone. Once you get to Qeynos get yourself an SOW or a nice long lasting invis and run through BB into Everfrost. Go to Halas and get bound. The newbie area in EF is a good one and there's plenty to kill...especially skellies. I hardly ever see skellies in Butchers Block, Faydark, Freeport, or QH but in EF you can't spit without hitting a skelly. (I've never been to Paineel) You'll get bumrushed by other beasties (icegoblins and gnoll pups and also bears and wolves if you arent a druid or ranger) as you hunt decaying skellies but youll get great xp doing it. After youve collected chips (I wouldnt leave w/less than a backpack full) get to Kaladim. Again, its a fairly safe trip until you get to Butchers Block. Those damn ogres that hangout on the path love to kill newbies so try to get an sow before you attempt the run to Kaladim from Faydark. (being in the Nexus you should be able to find a high level person that can give you an sow)
I wouldnt do this quest past level 7 or 8 as it gets boring after that and you need to work on your skills.

There are actually several reasons for doing this quest at various levels.

At low levels this is a great quest for gaining experience, wealth, and faction.

At higher levels it is still a great quest for raising several factions in Kaladim. For folks who want to raise those factions at higher levels (starting in the low teens or so) one of the best places to collect bone chips is Kurn's Tower in the Field of Bone. It's a pain to get to unless you can get either a druid or a wizard to evac you to the Emerald Jungle zone, but once there you can gather bone chips in VAST quantities.

I am an ogre, allied with warrior and guards, allied with King Kazon StormHammer, also Miners Guild, figured I'd get some cleric faction, came in with 5 bags of 20 bone chips, faction flew to "Cannot get any better." One less Kaladim guild to worry about :)

I am looking for a merchant that sells unlimited bone chips for this quest or any bone chip quest. I would buy from players, but I am not that rich (to pay the prices some of them want). I found other merchants with unlimited items for other quests, but still looking for the bone chip merchant.... Any help would be apreciated. Else I will continue the same old place - 10 skellies in 6 min spawns. (80 chips per hour ave. free)

Vendors only sell bone chips if someone has already sell bone chips to them. There are no vendors who regularly stock bone chips. My suggestion is to check vendors who are near the newbie areas where skeletons spawn and see if anyone has sold them.

Just did a little research to answer your question. It seems the easiest way to raise this faction, by far, is to turn in CB belts, assuming you're not KOS to the warrior's guild in Kaladim. These can be purchased quite easily in GFay for 1pp each, from PC's. Or just go kill the green orcs and loot them urself. Since you're KOS to the pallies, it may take quite a few belts.....

With Luclin now cheating the Druids out of the mucho Plat they were being paid, you can go to wizzy spires in Gfay port to Nexus and then take port to Toxx (from here just run south). Run to Paineel Newbie area and kill everything you see. It seems like level one characters are indiff to most mobs so I had no trouble doing this. This is also made easier if you twinked a little or have a friend come and buff you every once in awhile.
One character I have killed less than ten mobs, because I /auctioned for stacks of bone chips for 3 PP. I turned 4 stacks in and got to level 6.

I just want to say that I agree! I was delivering mail for the bards, and thought I might as well turn in some bone chips while I was in Kaladim. I was less than half a blue into lvl 4, and I dinged 5 while turning in my second stack. After I had turned in 2 stacks, I was nearly a yellow bub into lvl 5. I also got about 1 and a half plat. You can get more, but not with this incredible experience! =)

    What the...?

Why would a human necro go all the way to Kaladim to turn in bonechips? Xelha, one of the necro trainers in the freeport sewers, takes bonechips, firebeetle eyes and spiderling silks in groups of 4. She gives out about the same XP, too.

I used to farm firebettle eyes in Nro while waiting for my pet to heal up after fights.

Why take a boat ride to gain 5 or 6 yellow bubbles (a level and then some) for 1pp worth of bone chips (at merchant prices) and also receive 2pp in cash? Why would anyone NOT? This is probably the best newbie quest in Norrath. Don't waste your time with CB belts!

Are we doing it in the same place? I've turned in 2 stacks of bone chips and got about 1 1/2 orange bulbs on a lvl7 druid. I got 1 blue bar per 4 chips, which is crappy when you get nearly a orange per two crushbone pads.
    RE: uhh
    # Dec 09 2001 at 11:55 AM Rating: Default
The reason is that exp rewarded goes a longer way for a level 4 than it does for a level 7. Kinda like the difference in exp received from killing the skeleton itself at levels 4 and 7. Sure at 7 ya may get some exp, but it is not going to move the exp bar nearly as much as it will for a level 4.

It is not only very boring, if you would be level 60 (it is possible by doing this quest only) you would still have problems killing a snake! 'Cos your skill is totally screwed up...

#Anonymous, Posted: Oct 01 2001 at 10:46 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Not ENTIRELY screwed up because if you're getting the bone chips by killing skellies in various parts of Norrath, then you're still getting xp from killing higher level skellies, using melee and casting skills to kill them (thereby increasing your skill), and getting bonus xp for turning the bone chips in, instead of getting a measly 7-9cp for each bone chip. What I don't get are the necros who try and do bone chip quests...wouldn't you rather keep the bone chips to create pets?

Reviewing all that is said, Ive notice no mention on faction raiseing. For any ranger that is doing ivy etch boots you need soil of the underfoot which is given by the priestess of kaladim. In order to obtain it you have to do this quick quest till she becomes amiable. It might seem like nonsense but well worth faction raising. This is one of the ingredients needed to make ronium which is easier to make then buy=P. I hope this helps out any ranger that is doing this quest.

OK OK - I read all the reviews and I felt this quest worth it. Between buying and hunting, I got 5 backpacks full of bone chips. That's 40 stacks! By that time I was half way into 7th level. I turned it all in, which took forever by the way, and all I got was 2 1/2 levels up to 10th, barely. Now 2 1/2 levels is good, but not worth it in my book. What's up with you other people saying you got 16 levels doing this. I don't think so. But I dunno for sure, does the exp depend on your faction or what?

Folks - PLEASE do not follow this ******'s example. You skills will never improve.

He's right. Figuring that you add 10 points to your skill caps for combat skills per level and most low level PC's skills are still in the single digits, you will be 80 to 90 points below where you should be. Now the bad news... you don't increase your combat skills fighting things that are way below you. It's too trivial. Your skills will only increase by fighting things that are blue and above. The problem is MOB's at the 10+ lvl are way tougher and they will now kick your butt because you suck at fighting.

You can build your skills by being in a group but you will be a major liability.

Tell me about it. I did not do any "free leveling", but I have not worked on 1hand slash since level 19 and even then I had left it at 88. Ouch, now I am level 31, and seeing the benefit of having a shield (for AC when I am the main tank), but my 1hand slash is 90 points below where it should be. Ouch, I am sure paying for it: my ATK drops from 658 to 498 when I use a 1hand slash instead of a 2hand slash, and ouch, I have only 1 point of 2hand blunt and 0 in 1hand blunt, and I also left my Piercing at 85.... oww... Oh well, at least I realized my mistake before level 60. My 1hand slash would be 190 points below max (which is where it should be).
This is to show the importance of practicing all skills, as there are really nice 1hb and slashes as well as piercers and 2hand blunts in the high end, and if you haven't practiced...

You tell raid leader: Thanks for letting me loot that Frostwrath! Oh man, ratio of 27/25 WITH A PROC!
Raid leader tells you: You haven't looted it yet, have you?
You tell raid leader: No, the corpse hasn't come open.
Raid leader tells you: Ok, good. What is your 1hand blunt?
    You tell raid leader: 0
Raid leader tells you: Umm, sorry that goes to someone else then.
    You think: Groan....

You don't want that to happen to you. LOL.
