For an overview of the Dragons of Norrath expansion, see this wiki article.
For an overview of progression, see quest entries for Norrath's Keepers and the Dark Reign.

This is a non-progression task. It is a group mission (3-6 players) that begins with Boldger Bristlebeard (click for map image) in the Norrath's Keepers camp of the Lavastorm Mountains.

Pre-requisites for requesting:
- Minimum Level 55
- Minimum "kindly" faction with Norrath's Keepers

Hail him to get a quest window pop-up.

You have been assigned the task 'Forbin's Elixir'.

One of our trusted researchers has come under attack by magma spiders within Lavaspinner's Lair and is in need of help. If you could aid him we would greatly appreciate it.

Note: This group mission scales to your group's level. The highest is 68+, outlined here.

Touch the cave entrance to Lavaspinner's Lair 0/1 (The Broodlands)

This is marked on your compass (far southern instanced entrance).

Locate a Poison Sac to aid Forbin in making his elixir 0/1 (Lavaspinner's Lair)

Deliver the poison sac before it is too late to help Forbin 0/1 (Lavaspinner's Lair)

Once you zone in, head southeast to the large room that would contain Volkara in the raid event. Keep killing spiders until you've looted "Poison Sac" (this may require many kills - most of the zone's population).

Forbin Mixmasher is found in a little room north of the Broodmother's room at -1650, -1915. He says nothing when you hand in the poison sac, but your task updates and you get your reward.

You have done a great deed for our cause. Please continue your efforts and you shall be rewarded justly.

You can zone out east of the Broodmother's room. You automatically zone when you get close enough.

Rewards:
Up to 25 Radiant Crystals (number varies according to group's level)
1x "Norrath's Keepers Token" (faction turn-in item)

The sole requirement for being able to get this mission is that you are "kindly" faction with Norrath's Keepers. I started logging which missions I did (for my guild's info), and did not have access to this mission until the very time after I achieved kindly faction. I have NOT completed Tier 1 at this time either.

OK, I have done this mission probably 15 times and not always with success. If we failed the mission it was always because we never saw the poison sack. If you cant loot the one item then the mission is a bust. I have had several ppl tell me that they were never doing this mission again because of the possiblility of getting no reward. If you dont have a strategy here, its not only a real possiblity but approaching
    likelyhood
of NOT winning your 18/25 crystals.

Now at lvl 74 I can 2-box my bard and mage and my wife plays her cleric or I can just 3-box them. Mobs are dark blue to 70 but light blue to 74 and they are all spiders. Just different variations of them. All the spiders run at low health. None are casters from what I could tell. Some see thru invis. There are only set spawns, static and roamers. Nothing spawns in random spots. All are vulnerable to pacify. All are mezable-slowable-crippleable-rootable-snareable. There are two zonewide random drops. There are no named spiders to kill. There is no other special loot, just vendor junk and a couple tradeskill items. Its a relatively cash poor zone.

So in summary:
- Not a good place at all for loot
- Not a good place at all for exp - no safe area, risky zonein, zoneout is far away.
- Not a good place for crystals - 18/25 and possiblility of none.
So why do ppl come here? The answer is GM Human Cultural DON smithing Qeynos. We have to kill 130 lavaspinners and loot 80 arachnid eye clusters and one mandible. These only come from instanced missions, and only from Lavaspinners misison, and only from the spider type mobs. This mission is ONLY those spiders and its exactly what we need. Dumbaz me canceled my smithing mission quest accidentally after I had 68 eyes looted and had to start over. So I saw a lot of this instance.

There are two roamers that are on a set path that take them to the zonein. So if when you first zone in (and not jumped) and your group pulls the first spider you see, you might have two adds to deal with. Once the two roamers are dead then you can just single pull several of the spiders and go from there.

Now in every case that I found the poison sack, it was on a repop and not on an original spawned spider from the instance. What this means is that if you are clearing to somewhere, most likely the final dude, to set up your camp there, then the poison sac may be on a repop behind you somewhere and you will never find it.

Every time I won this mission we just cleared mobs from the zonein and just looted the poison sac myself when it was on one of the repops. Then I just ran with bard speed to the final guy, faded off aggro, and turned the item in for the 25 crystals (avg lvl 70+). This way we were assured that we didnt miss the keynote item on a repop in an area we were not pulling anymore. We just cleared the same front area a couple times and bang, there it is on a repop spider. Incidentally, half the times we lost it was because we didnt always kill respawns, the other half were due to ppl giving up and quiting, getting a bad pull and having 2 roamers add and wipe the team, or misc LD issues.

Now, I have never seen it in the first three kills like mentioned in this forum but I have seen it on a first repoped spider. Usually it takes a couple clearings of spiders before we see it on the third or fourth clearing of the front area. So you can see that you are rolling the dice if you clear to the turn in guy and make your camp there. You may or may not ever see the poison sack.

Its too hard to get your group to the open broodmother area without clearing your way there. That would be the only place to kite. The mobs dont summon, but this is an indoor zone so no selos or spirit of eagle. That makes this is a straight up melee mission.

The developers reduced the crystals you get here a ways back. Currently at 18 or 25 its just not worth it if you are going here for crystals. You cant depend on set script events to blow through the mission. You have to clear spider spawns, wait for respawn, clear, wait, clear, loot the poison, turn it in, win.

This quest either drops the elixir real quick or you have to clean out the Lavaspinners lair which takes what seems all night. There are repops. I'd say 30% quick drop and 70% OMFG I'm here forever. If you get the elixir quick run looter to the zone out and the Erudite you need to turn it into is in the big zone out room on the left, you can either zone out after the turn in and let the rest of the group hang around until the timer runs out or just leave mission. If you don't get the elixir quickly just kill all night for AAEXP and kill your way to the zone out and then pulls will be easier. Running to the zone out you can invis most of the way but there is always a random see invis mob. From my experience which this is the only DoN I do alot is this quest now looks really bugged, drop happens on one of the first 3 mobs, drop take forever to happen,(Usually)with alot of kills and tonight our spells wouldn't work (we cast and nothing happened)so we wiped, just a temp bug though seems like. This is a good quest to stack with goody faction quest because you can get the silks or liquids you need for the faction quests, some decent AAexp's, and some crystals. A few times we acutally did the quest 2 times with fast drops within an hour but that was really rare.

A little more clarification. Forbin (the guy you turn the poison into) is at /loc -1650, -1915. This is in the Broodmother's room in the little notch in the north of that room. When you hail the guy he says nothing, when you hand in the poison sac he says nothing but you get the Norrath Keeper's Token and the crystals (18 crystals with an average levle to 67.6667). The zone out for this mission is located in the east of the broodmother's room. There are no spiders in the broodmothers room so once you kill (or train) up to that your in the clear to run in and do the turn in. Once you get near the zone in portal it automatically zones you out.

As a side note.. I have not completed tier 3 yet and I am able to get this mission. I have only finished tier 1. All the task steps are 0/1 and all are correct as stated above in writeup. I think that's about all the information left not posted above.
