This group task is the second in a series of five (following the "Freeing an Elder" task) and begins with the Shadowalker Dustspirit who can be found in the northwestern part of Stoneroot Falls at location -685, +850.

You say, 'Hail, Shadowalker Dustspirit'

Shadowalker Dustspirit says 'Hello. We have received word back from Elder Longshadow. Thank you again for your efforts. She also mentioned that you may be [needed] once again.'

You say, 'How am I needed?'

Shadowalker Dustspirit says 'Before Longshadow was captured she was on her way to investigate reports that the drachnids have stumbled across something very powerful. If we find out enough information regarding this device we may have a chance of surviving the death that is prophesized in the [visions] of the Elders.'

You say, 'What visions?'

Shadowalker Dustspirit says 'The tribal Elders have seen visions of a great war brewing, not unlike the War of the West Tunnels when the werewolves of Darkhollow engaged in civil war and formed two clans. I fear however that this war would cost us far greater a toll. Please go now and locate the drachnid camp that Longshadow was investigating. I pray we have not taken too long already.'

There are three versions of this task: Hard High Level (group average level 66+); Normal High Level (66+); Low Level (65 and under). The only difference between them is the quality of loot and difficulty/levels of mobs.

You have been assigned the task 'The Orb of Subversion'.

Find the cave entrance to the Hive 0/1 (Stoneroot Falls)

Task window says: Find a way into the drachnid hive and see what you can discover about this mysterious source of power.

The entrance is marked on your compass. It is in the drachnid part of Stoneroot Falls.

Destroy the Drachnid Poisonmaster 0/1 (The Hive)

Task window says: It seems that an orb of power is in possession of an entity known as the Drachnid Poisonmaster. Seek out the poisonmaster's domain and retrieve the orb through any means necessary.

The Drachnid Poisonmaster spawns at the top of the fourth cocoon (outside the Dreadspire Keep entrance). He casts the following spells:

Blinding Ash: PB AE 100', Unresistable (0)
1: Blindness(1)

Venomous Fog: PB AE 100', Poison (-400)
1: Decrease HP when cast by 1500
2: Decrease Hitpoints by 800 per tick
3: Increase Poison Counter by 35

Woven Ire: Single Target, Disease (-1000)
1: Decrease HP when cast by 300 (L1) to 384 (L85)
2: Decrease Hitpoints by 200 (L1) to 284 (L85) per tick
3: Improved Spell Effect(Woven Ire Trigger)

As you fight him, he'll teleport away (note upon doing this, he strips himself of any debuffs):

Drachnid Poisonmaster shouts 'You shall not defeat me! I still have the strength to teleport to safety! I suggest you do not follow, my traps are deadly!'

He'll do this three times: The first time, he warps one floor below. The second time, another floor below. The third time, he warps to the first cocoon (which is empty of mobs except for him).

Loot the Orb of Subversion 0/1 (The Hive)

Task window says: The Orb of Subversion must be this instrument of power, but it gives no indication of how it works. Take care in transporting the orb back to Dustspirit!

Deliver the orb to Shadowalker Dustspirit 0/1 (Stoneroot Falls)

Upon giving the orb to Dustspirit:

This orb gives me a bad feeling. I sense that this won't be the end of its trouble.

You gain experience!!

I've been doing these quite regularly in the hopes of getting the illusion mask.

However today while doing a clear EQ decided that although the timer on my task still had 3.5hrs to go it would inexplicably kick the zone and end the task.

All requirements (3 people etc) were fine so I have no idea. Just be warned that it may decide you've done enough and throw you.

At 30 %, Drachnid Poisonmaster can flee very quickly and can't be snared. I can tell that he will go inside the first cocoon after that and will regen here. If your group runs to this cocoon, you can fight there and he will never warp again. There aren't trash mobs in that cocoon ... so easy fight. If you wait too much time, Drachnid Poisonmaster will return to the 4th cocoon at 100 % of his life ... and you'll have to start again.
Good Luck )

You can do this arc at 65 tho they are very challenging at that level (I've only completed mission 1 & 2.) Reward on mission 2 was Ragepaw Wild Ring & Shadowmane Wild Ring. Reward on mission 1 was Hard Paw Earring & Soft Paw Earring.

I have been exp'ing in longshadow 2 missions hoping to get the trickster mask but it appears the random drop is something else at 65:

Snotdog (80 RNG) and I (80 SK)dueo'd this mission and won. we cleared the ZI to DSK (last tower) and splited killed adds near by. I was buffed to 16k and 3.2k ac with a 12k mana pool. i am not sure what snotdog stats were, but he is a ranger (hehehe). also, we i am 800+ aa's. i MT'd and he did what rangers do (no, he didn't die). was an easy fight due to the fact the spider kept porting him self and lost aggro so i can FM med. after like two ports and medding to 100%, he never ported again. The way we got the instance was had a AFK'r in GH take 3rd slot. any questions about this, i am on the trib server. just a note, I only did the NORMAL ones

Just did this mission. Cleared the 4th hive in about 10 min w/ my 3 box team of a 75 necro (11.5k mana) 71 War (10.7k hp, 2.3k ac unbuffed) and a 72 Shaman (8.7k mana). When named time came we pulled named to lower level and it went easy, Max hit on war was about 903 adv hit in the 500's and missed alot. At around 60% he warped up 1 level (slow cleared off him at this time as well). Necro got summoned do to dots but was able to FD. Ran tank up there with shammy about 10 sec behind him and got hit by traps for about 600 a tick. With dot and mob unslowed War dropped pretty fast do to late heals. After that I called in a guildy cleric. Did fight again. Warped at 60% again, Regened to about 70% warped again at 50%, killed to 30% and the ******* ran (can't be snared). At this time we compleately lost track of the mob. Was searching for it w/ necro for about 2 min then i saw my war's hp dropping and the bridges. Ran out there and finished him off. Dropped chain arms. Good luck 3 boxing do to all the running around. Hope this helps.

Quick & Easy with lvl 75
# Feb 16 2007 at 2:39 PM Rating: Decent
Easy with lvl 75 - did hard mission with moderately geared group (still sub anguish) and only took 45 mins. Watch for the summons on the warping Poisonmaster, they can be your undoing!

Did this today with a 75 monk ( 12k hps 2.4k ac - buffed ), 72 cleric ( 8k mana ), 70 shaman ( 6k mana ). As per the write up below we cleared the entire 4th hive, we'd also cleared the living bridge of all roamers ( which turned out to be a god send when it did run ).

This was not an easy fight or as straight forward as I thought it would be. For a small team, I do not recommend pulling it down to the second level, or using pets or DoT's or any debuff that can't link agg back to the person tanking. Let it warp, and loose agg. Reengage within a minute and you won't loose much ground, but you will get a chance fresh mana pools some.

First round we pulled it down one level, that part of the fight went fine. We had problems with it when it warped and "cleared" agg. First warp - it summoned our shaman almost immediately, but our monk was able to get agg back. Second warp - Shaman stuck with Lingering Sloth on the monk for slows and got no agg. Cleric had Mark of the Blaimless and Mark of Retribution on the mob, and when warped it immediately summoned and ate her. Shaman was able to cover heals ( barely ) while the mob was taken down far enough for it warp again. This mob appears to retain hate for any debuff. We stopped using any debuff with a lasting effect except Lingering Sloth, and had no agg or summoning problems from that point - including when the mob ran at 25% health ( it just lost all agg and ran ).

We the mob ran at 25% we opted to take it for a med break since the cleric was running low on mana ( due to the death ) and the shaman wasn't much better off ( due to covering heals ). Poisonmaster return pathed to it's final respawn point at full life, and we engaged it again from there. From full life to dead ran our Cleric out of mana, and we had the shaman covering the last few heals. Monk burned Inner flame, and heal of kanji in the fight. Tuff fight for our team, but winnable. It should also be noted that it did not run a second time.

While fighting him I saw him use an emote after using one of his spells.
"Drachnid Poisonmaster has been cleansed by the waters of the sea."

Unless I am mistaken, I believe this is Ocean's Cleansing, used by Durunal the Cursebearer as well for the final Paladin Epic 1.5 fight.

Top walkways

He walks out onto the top walkways btw, not the bottom ones. I forgot which one it was, and we cleared them both. Which didn't take to much time, so this is just an fyi :)

Kill all trash near the 4th building on the webs.

Poisonmaster is at the top most level.
At 75% he gates seemingly instantly to the floor below. I suggest pulling him to that 2nd from top floor just to make it easier.

He also loses all debuffs and dots upon gate and starts summoning you nearly instantly, yay. At least he only hits around 1.5k max.

At 50% he gates instantly again to the next floor down, and then quickly runs out the door onto the walkways when he gets closer to 25% and summoning you as he goes, which is no fun again.

Bard group-DA on 2nd gate is nice, it gives you enough time to all run down to the mob as he's beating on your tank.

Unless you're just rolling in dps (all dots wear off each gate, yay) avoiding damage while being summoned is a must, as the clr may have issued healling depoending on how far away the mob has gone.

A few times he fell off the walkways or something, and toon were summoned and booted out of the zone to stoneroot heh.

He's very resistant to poison, but fire landed well and magic landed ok.
this was no fun
# Aug 17 2006 at 9:20 PM Rating: Default
good writeup.

one thing i want to add though is that he didnt summon our tank. he vanished and just sat around and regenned until we re-engaged. that MIGHT be because we didnt use any dot spells.

another note,
if you dont re-engage him as he moves around, he'll eventually go BACK to teh start (very top) and you'll have to start each progressive warp all over again.

#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 15 2005 at 1:07 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Ok so i've done this mission on hard and normal and i've failed normal 5 times in a row on named and finished hard in 50mins. It seems to me that although he doesnt hit as hard on normal he seems a bit tuffer. Seems to cast his AE dot more often, and his 1500dd proc, and his 5k AE dd trap/proc whatever the hell it is. So my question is, how do i avoid the traps, if they can be avoided?

The Poisonmaster is located in the north-most hive, on the top floor. Clear everything inside the hive except for the Poision master. Once engaged and lowered a bit, he will teleport down to the 2nd floor. Re-engage until he teleports down to the 3rd floor. Re-engage again (he might summon one of your group members as well, so move fast). After he is down so far (don't remember the %'s) he will AE blind and start running out onto one of the walkways towards the southern-most hive. Once blind is off, or if you resist it, chase him and aggro him on the walk-way, you can end the fight there.

If he regens too much at any of his teleport points or looses aggro, he will start over from the top of North hive.

The Task is named "Orb of Subversion."

The regular rewards are as follows, with the lucy link:

Melee/Hybrid = Ring of Feral Fortitude

Caster = Ring of Feral Power

Very nice items for the effort and they are 60 required not 70 required like the hard mission items.
