This is a task given by V`Lynn Renloe in Plane of Knowledge.

(dialogue with V`Lynn needed.)

Upon receiving the task from V`Lynn, you will be ported in to an instanced version of Crushbone. All mobs are in the level range of 12-16 and have some interesting abilities (orc pawns can rampage, for example).

  • 1. Infiltrate Crushbone

Walk a few steps in to the zone; you might have to pull a few orcs first. When you do, a cadre of orcs near the entrance will run off to the west across the bridge.

  • 2. Locate Emperor Crush's Hideout

Emperor Crush can be found in the slaver caves, he is KOS, has two guards, and is not attackable. When you get close, you receive text in your chat window

Your party comes across two orcs nearly out of breath, speaking in panicked tones, 'My liege, the assassins have breached the outer perimeter! We came as quickly as we could. We must take you to safety! With our forces scattered. . .'

The emperor perks his ears up, 'Silence weaklings! That noise, what was it?'

  • 3. Slay Lord Darish

As soon as you get the text about the Emperor, Lord Darish and (what appeared to be three) defenders charges your group near the houses outside the slaver caves. About every 10 seconds or so, "a young warboar" charges your party. They are low level and do not hit very hard. As soon as you kill Darish, all the boars despawn and you just need to clean up the defenders.

  • 4. Find out where Emperor Crush has Fled

Find the Emperor in the slaver pits on the other side of the zone. Make sure you keep your group close together as you approach him. He cons KOS, but unattackable. When you approach, some adds spawn between your party and the castle. Emperor Crush will take off towards the castle.

  • 5. Put an end to Ambassador DVinn

Your party will wind up fighting Ambassador DVinn along with some adds (details sketchy).

  • 6. Face Emperor Crush

In the castle, fight your way in to the throne room. You will find Emperor Crush surrounded by four guards. None of them are attackable at this point. For your next update, you must get close to him. As soon as you see the task update, you should probably get away as all the guards respawn into elite guards.

  • 7. Send the vile Emperor Crush back to Bertoxxulous

Kill the Emperor's four guards. Emperor Crush will then become attackable and charge you. He summons and has a lot of hitpoints compared to the rest of the orcs in the zone. Around 20%, he becomes unattackable again.

Emperor Crush says "Lord Bertoxxulous, why have you forsaken me?"

Emperor Crush takes off running behind his throne room up into his tower where.

The emperor dashes away, clutching his wounds, most assuredly mortal in nature. Gasping for air he reaches his tower before screaming out, 'No! You shall not claim success this day! You shall forever be robbed of your victory!' You hear a soft crunch and then he gurgles, blood flowing up through his throat, flowing around the dagger he used to take his own life.

You have completed your task. A "Note about your fifth trial" appears in your inventory which you are instructed to turn in to your guild master in your home city. There is a dwarf miner near the zone in that you can say "ready to exit" to and be teleported back to Plane of Knowledge.

Turning in the note to your guild master

Have done this a few times now and again, no update after Crush goes behind throne and up the ramp. He comes back down and stands near his throne.

Sounds like a bug, might post it in the official EQ bug forums.

I finished the first 4 trials and got the notes. When hailing V'Lynn, he then allowed me to ask about group tasks and gave me this for the Fifth Trial.

Even though this says Solo under Group Size, it seems incorrect, because when I try to have him teleport me in (as I have the quest in my journal and I ask him to teleport me in) I get this red text:

"A strange magical presence keeps you from entering. It's too dangerous to enter at this moment."

So this is not solo apparently, even with a merc.

    ====

    UPDATE:

Okay, yes you need a minimum of 3 people to do this.

I got my sister to get on her necro. Now even though she could not come in with me, I was able to teleport in and have her leave the group AND still stay in the instance to do it.

Bit of a work around but there you go!

Another way to get "Note About Your Fifth Trial" is to do "Below the Field of Bone"

    Edited, Feb 4th 2007 8:39pm by Zeamus

I hope to do the "Below the Field of Bone" with my Vah Shir Rogue to find out if the reward may be the Taruun Dagger. I'll post the result when I find out.

BTW, I never saw any War Boars in this instanced version of Crushbone. I wonder if these mobs were deleted during a patch for some reason.

    A good challenge!

This whole task though is a real challenge! Careful when fighting DVinn and stuff...you're most likely to have Crush and a few Slavers or something on you. I know that I had to run in a huge circle while my group (2 others) had to pick out a couple at a time. All the mobs, that are not named, respawn after a while, so be careful if it takes you a long time to defeat an enemy.

I love this quest, but it takes a good group that's experienced to know what's going on and how things work. Unfortunatly, one of my groupies didn't, and was killed a lot.
