Mage is all you need
# Dec 27 2006 at 2:04 PM Rating: Decent
I 3 box this easily with just 3 mages. The spiritlings have fixed spawn points just take the time to mark them on your map , no need for a tracker , there are a few that wander but I have 4 spawns marked on my map each spawns 2 spiritlings. The pandas are all over just find a safe spot to pull them to. All the mobs you need are easily killed with 3 mages , just pet zerg em , even the warlord.

Did this misson 6 times yesterday. Dropped the mask the last 4 times in a row.
Exp nerfed again
# Feb 27 2006 at 5:15 PM Rating: Decent
After the PoR release patch MM nerf, only gives about 3.5 yellows into an AA instead of the about 4.5 yellows pre-nerf.

ok did this today with 5 people in about an hour or so boss dropped mask and 6 shard of wisdom ?
just dont know what the shard of wisdom is for...
can anyone help? thanks

edit:
ok found this in a patch message.
Within Monster Missions, you will now find Shards of Wisdom that will impart upon you the experiences of the creature you inhabit at the time. Looting one of these shards will grant the experience to your main character upon successful completion of the mission.

Tips
# Dec 10 2005 at 5:01 AM Rating: Decent
I've done this mission maybe 30 times now (sometimes just 3 boxing it myself) so some tips...

As mentioned, mages and a tracker for pulling are the way to go. If you have 3 or 4 people I suggest 1 ranger and the rest mages. If you have 5 or 6 I suggest 2 rangers and the rest mages.

I set up camp on the north side of the big mountain north of the town. An easy way to find the spot is on the mapfiend map for the zone, you can see a tunnel extending through the mountain from the town. The spot I pull to is right above where the tunnel has its northernmost point. To clarify: the tunnel doesn't LEAD to that spot. The spot is ON the mountain (as opposed to inside it) but on the same x/y coordinates as the end of the tunnel. This is a completely safe spot where no mobs path, and is in a relatively central location among the various spiritling spawns.

Don't bother trying to pull any of the nameds; they'll take forever to kill at 25 and it's largely pointless anyway.

For harder mobs (elder pandas, kejek tigers, etc) the Rangers' Drones of Doom is your friend. It's the only spell that lands on the really high lvl mobs with ANY regularity (I'd say about 50% of the time compared to maybe 5-10% for other spells) and does a big chunk of damage. Creates tons of aggro though; root is your friend.

Don't bother healing the mage pets. The heal is very inefficient; just wait until they're about to die and cast a new one.

The Kobold Warlord is odd; he is obviously high level (I'd say probably low 30s) because he's almost impossible to land a spell on, and hits pretty hard (last time I killed him he hit for max around 50, but I could swear I've seen him hit harder) but has very low hp for his level. If you have 5 or 6 people just rush him, if you have 3 or 4 I suggest the rangers hanging back casting Drones (Drones does land on him maybe 1/3 of the time) and letting pets take him down. Avoid the temptation to nuke him, he will resist 90% of the time and once you get aggro it's hard to get him off you, because root and snare *NEVER* stick on him. For that same reason, water pets are better for killing him than earth pets.

One way to make this mission a lot simpler and reduce trains is to plan in advance who the puller will be. Certain race/class/deity combos are not aggro to certain kinds of animals in this zone. I haven't really found a pattern to it yet; it's not as simple as goods/evils. For instance:

My troll innoruuk shaman is KOS to all the animals.
My erudite agnostic mage is not KOS to any of the monkeys but is KOS to the tigers.
My dwarf brell serilis cleric is not KOS to any of the monkeys but is KOS to the tigers.
A wood elf tunare druid I was with was not KOS to the tigers but was KOS to the monkeys.
A halfling brell serilis warrior I was with was KOS to all the animals.

I have not yet found any class/race/diety combo that's not KOS to both the tigers and monkeys, but using one that's at least not kos to one of them makes this mission a lot simpler by drastically cutting down on the trains you get.

Finally, I hear lots of rumors around that the higher level pandas drop pelts more often than the lower level ones. In my experience, this is not true. All the pandas drop pelts a bit more often than half the time; I'd say about 60-70%. I normally get 5 pelts in 7-8 pandas. Have gotten 5 out of 5 a few times. Most it's ever taken me was 11.

You get about 85% of an AA for this MM; somewhat more than the Nek MM. Best part is that it's so damn easy to bot because except for the puller(s) no one has to move from camp.

my necro has no problem with the itty bitty kitties, dubious to them. Just being a necro doesn't mean auto KOS to them.

(what is the exact name you see when you zone in?) The Stonebrunt Mountains.

(what is the exact in-game name and approximate level?). a mountain spiritling. They can be white to red to you. Since you are always 25, then 25 - 28 would be my guess.

Kobold Warlord (exact in-game name? approximate level? fight information?)
Kobold Warlord red. would guess level 30. Hits for mid 30s at the highest.

For this mission..

You become a Kejek in an instanced version of Stonebrunt Mountains, and have choice of several classes (Ranger, Druid, Warrior, Mage, and Shaman). First piece of the mission is to kill 10 Mountain Wisps. (I think that is the name of them, they look like red wisps) Then you have to collect 5 Panda Pelts. These drop from various pandas in the zone. You then turn these into the quest giver, Tribesman Juill. This updates the quest to allow the final task of killing the Kobold Warlord who is in the city at the cave enterance. Kill him to finish task, and loot reward from his body.

Common reward is the chain arms listed, the rare reward is an all:all face that is named Etched Mask of the Tribe.

As of this posting the quest takes about 30-45 minutes total to complete.

The wisps are called Mountain Spiritlings, they con white, yellow and red,and will be pinkish in color. There are other types of Spiritlings each with their own unique color, Jungle (green) ect... your Kejekan toon is gonna be lvl 25 so figure the lvls yourself. The Pandas are all red cons to you, cubs easiest and they get harder till you get at the elder. Pelts are supposedly common drops but lately I have not found that to be so. Kobold Warlord also cons red but seems to be somewhat weaker than an Elder Panda and he will high-tail it out when he gets around 30% HP.
I like my group to have two Rangers and the rest Mages, a group of five (2 Rangers and 3 Mages) can easily handle the frequent trains of 3-4 Apes and Tigers along with the 2 Spiritlings that usually aggro together. (Not all the time though). Once the /loc is learned for each mob you need and pathing becomes familiar to you the instance can be done on 20-25 minutes. Everything you need is around the base of the mountain the city sits on, so no wandering off through out Stoneburnt. So when you become familiar with it, LET BOTH RANGERS CHAIN PULL trains and the MAGES AND PETS WIPE THEM OUT.

Thats pretty much exactly what we do though we were using 4 mages and 2 druids. The druids could dot the mobs while pulling and heal occasionaly if needed. Both druids would head out and start pulling immediately while the mages got up their pets and waited at the front gate of the fort. A pair of earth pets for roots and a pair of water pets for the added dps made a nice compliment to each other. Mobs died fast and we seldom lost anyone unless one of the druids had a bad run in with adds during the pull. Missions can take as little as 20 minutes and as long as 45 depending on the luck of the loot with the panda's. A fun mission to do.
