You say, 'Hail, Eric Von Schnelling'

Eric Von Schnelling seems to creak as he moves. He gives off the air of one that has lived well beyond his years but still has shining bright eyes. He smiles at you, 'Welcome to my humble, temporary and spacious residence. Please, make yourself at home. Feel free to drink my wine and eat the candies that have been given to me out of love and friendship by the Master and his many minions.'

You say, 'The Master?'

Eric Von Schnelling says 'Him? He's a good guy. He is the only one that has a clue about what it's like to be me. Sure, he's got a bit of power and a ton of servants, but that's not the point. I have some power too. He has seen eternity and faced it down. The rest here, they pretend that eternity is just tomorrow or the day after. They keep their heads down, that's the only way they can go forward. Chumps.'

You say, 'Power?'

Eric Von Schnelling says 'Ah, power. Now that is a fascinating topic. You're probably not aware that to remain alive as stubbornly as I do requires rather large amounts of power? So much so that I can barely spare any to deal with people that try to kill me. That's ironic, isn't it? Over my long life I've learned some nice ways to get that power. The easiest is just to take the power stored in items. Folks waste a lot of energy building these epic items, precious energy that could be used to help keep me alive. This is a topic that the Master and I have spoken about several times. It's most certainly the reason he holds me in such high regard.'

You say, 'Epic?'

(With 1.5) Eric Von Schnelling says 'You wouldn't be able to understand such things and, well, you have nothing to offer me. I'll tell you what, you gather up a fully powered item that's worthy of the term 'epic' and come talk to me again.'

(With 2.0) Eric Von Schnelling says 'Sure, like that one you have there. I can sense its power. In fact, perhaps we can work out a bargain. I'm here for several reasons, not the least of which is the fascinating conversations. I know that there is a mystical book of great power here called Shadowspine. I also know that it is weaker than it was when it was created. Pages have been, um, exercised from it and lost. These pages hold a power that make my [work] much easier.'

You say, 'What work?'

Eric Von Schnelling says 'I don't know that I'd call it work, exactly. But since I already have . . . Anyway, the process of devouring a powerful item requires a large amount of energy. The net gain is nothing to sneeze at, but it's not as much energy as I'd like. These pages can be used like keys to unlock that power much more easily. Each page is usually dedicated to a style of magic, so they tend to only unlock certain types of power. If you can bring me a page that matches with your epic item then maybe we can work out a [deal].'

You say, 'A deal?'

Eric Von Schnelling says 'Yup, a deal. If you give me a page, I'll use it. If it's the right page for your own epic item, I'll channel a bit of the extra energy I get into your item. That should make it a bit stronger. Either way, though, if you bring me a page I'll certainly use it, it's up to you to have the item in your hand that you want me to make better. You are starting to weary an old man. I get bored talking about work all the time. Is there anything else you'd like to discuss? If not, why don't you start looking for those pages, eh?'

The pages he's looking for are from Tier 2 encounters in the Demi-Plane of Blood:

Invocation of Death's Shadow (melees), dropped from The Performer's chest
Invocation of Eternity (priests), dropped from Roley DeFarge's chest
Invocation of Night (casters), dropped from Tris Wallows III's chest
Invocation of the Last Dawn (hybrids), dropped from Devlin Rochester's chest

Upon handing in the correct page:

Eric Von Schnelling says 'Well, this is exactly what I need. Hang around and watch me work, if you'd like. Keep that epic of yours in your hand and I'll make sure to channel some of my power into it. If you don't have it with in your hand, well that's unfortunate.'

Eric Von Schnelling draws the power out of the page and channels it into the staff in his hands. The staff pulses with power for a moment, then that power is pulled into Eric himself. As the ritual finishes, the once mighty staff is turned to dust that fades away before it even touches the ground.

Eric Von Schnelling says 'Ah, now that was refreshing! Thank you for that, I feel a dozen years younger.'

You receive an invisible (non-removable) augmentation to your epic 2.0. The name of your invisible augmentation corresponds to the name of your epic 2.0:

Epic augment 2.5
# Sep 24 2013 at 3:52 PM Rating: Decent
In an effort to save everyone the misery of doing this raid ten times like I did with no success I thought it would be helpful to write a simple "how to" guide.

1: Go to Dreadspire Keep and speak with Eric Von Schnelling. Contrary to anything you may read there is nothing magical about him, he spawns at random points and random times so you will want a tracker with you.

2: Enter the raid instance, Dreadspire Keep: Demi-Plane of Blood by clicking on the statue on the right which is beside Gaelic the Small.

3: Tier 1 - Kill Granite Claw, you will engage him four times before he dies.

4: Tier 1 - Kill Redfang.

5: Tier 1 - Kill Hatchet the Torturer. You will need four audio triggers for,
CHARGE - he will chase a player around the room, the player needs to pull him over an activated trap.
HIDE - run between his legs so he can not hit you.
RUN AWAY - run to the other side of the room.
DUCK - crouch down to avoid a hit.

An emote will be displayed once you have been successful at avoiding one of his attacks.

6: Tier 1 - Complete the Wailing Sisters quest which really is not hard once you set up some macros.

Tier 2 NPC's are now available.

7: Tier 2 -

I am still writing on this so bare with me a couple of days.

Roley and Adrianna, before starting this event set the loot privileges to "entire raid".

Awesome so far. The mobs without a strat listed are just "zerg" mobs? Do you solo, box, or raid these events? Looking forward to the rest of your write up so don't give up!

When you turn in the page for a rogue, Invocation of Death's Shadow (melees), dropped from The Performer's chest, do you get an actual aug or do your stats simply go up automatically?

The stats go up automatically. There is supposedly a hidden augment added, but it can't be seen in the game.

Well by the same logic, it's not a 2.0, it's an upgrade from 1.5.
Oh, but it's not 1.5, it's an upgrade to 1.0.

In other words, who cares how people choose to refer to it?

you casters might not think its "worth it" but i know as an SK ill be more than happy to turn in this page and hail a guy for this. 4 damage alone is worth it, adding 15 ac 40 hp resists and attack makes this $$$$$

pretty simple (for a cleric)....put my BIC aug in the type 4 slot, an anguish aug or better in the 8 slot and the invisible aug...and my 2.0 shield has 590 hp's, 660 mana , 126 ac and 9 regen/mana regen.

i love this aug and what it does to boost my shield even more.

What are the use of these
# Jan 18 2006 at 8:43 PM Rating: Decent
Not many people who can do this quest would have need to + primary stats. The + to saves is miniscule and the mana and HP is really a waste of time.

A useful effect might have been of use I guess.

/agree the aug is pretty weak for this level.

Not sure about a waste of time though, 30 HP/Mana/End and a tiny bump to resists IS worth doing a hail and turn-in assuming you are raiding these mobs anyway. And at least the way they worked the aug, it doesn't take up a slot--that would have been a waste.

Overall, it's not too bad a way to keep pace with continued expansions, as long as their next effort affects ratio, crits or healing...

Tt's not an augment and it doesn't add a type 30 slot, it powers your 2.0 by adding the stats displayed in those "shards of the ancient".

The following are the pages you need:
Invocation of Eternity is for the priests (cler, druid, shaman) - Drops from Roley DeFarge's chest in Demi Plane

Invocation of Death's Shadow is for pure melee (war, rog, monk, ber) - From The Performer event's chest in Demi Plane

Invocation of the Last Dawn is for hybrids (pal, sk, beastlord, ranger, bard) - From Devlin Rochester's chest in Demi Plane

Invocation of the Night is for casters (Wiz, Mage, Necro, Enc) - From Tris Wallows' chest in Demi Plane

You give your Invocation page to Eric Von Schnelling and you get the following text:

Eric Von Schenlling may be or not be up in Dreadspire. The rotation for named NPC seems to be around 12 game hours or roughly 36 real minutes. If he's not up, you may be waiting this or more. He can pop in numerous places but mainly the guest rooms and the dining room.
Additionally, you may do this with your epic aug'ed.

Do you actually receive the "shards of the ancient" at any point?
RE: info
# Jan 12 2006 at 12:04 PM Rating: Decent
You receive the stats on it on your epic... but you can't see the shard. Consider it a permanent augment that is both invisible and not removable at all, you can only see the stats and the added focus name.

I wonder why we have separate augments listed on Lucy, then... Were these unused but datamined somehow?
RE: info
# Jan 13 2006 at 7:27 PM Rating: Decent
I'm guessing Sony did it this way since, well, Epics tend to be touchy subjects. If they want to go back later to alter them, then they'd only have to change one item per epic, and the aug'd ones would automatically update with the additional aug stats.

Or maybe they just decided against augs all together and just remade the item entirely, with the datamined augs as leftovers? *Shrugs*

I believe that's it's more like the OP said: The augments are automatically inserted and just don't show for the player, but can be seen by Lucy.
If Eric took the weapon and exchanged it for an upgraded version the augments in the old weapon would be lost. I bet SOE did it this way to prevent petitions of Epic 2.0 owners for reimbursement of their augments after trade :P

PS: You can see that's it's an augment and not a whole new weapon from the fact that there are no 2nd entries for the epics 2.0 as they don't change their names when you do this quest.

RE: info

Yes i believe they were datamined. It's basically the only way to get them to register in my opinion cause you simply can't see them on your upgraded epic.

This quest does NOT add a slot for Type 30 (at least not to the Bard epic), what it does add is 2dmg, 30hp / mana, 10ac, 10 to all stats, 5 to all resists, 30atk and 3 mana regen.

If no one has found the item to upgrade the epic 2.0. how do they have the type 5. slot 30 slot?
Slot 3 & 4
# Oct 08 2005 at 5:21 PM Rating: Decent
If this NPC gives you Slot 5, is it possible there are additional quests to open up Slot 3, Slot 4, Slot 6 Etc?

I recall SOE claiming the epics would be "customizable" back before OoW. Maybe this is a case of delayed implementaion.

interesting.. it looks like ppl can find a use for those old LDoN type 5 augs that were only equipable on LDoN bought weapons for example Black Diamond of Crippling but then again there may be a whole new line of crafted augs too

Sounds like it's slot 5, not type 5, hence LDoN-bought augmentations won't fit.

# Oct 04 2005 at 5:30 AM Rating: Decent
Could these pages that this NPC is talking about, have to do with the new spell research that is now avialable? I noticed on the vendors in Corathus Creep that each has a different "ink" and some are described to what seems to be for each different class in the game.

I think that would be a good place to start :)

The type: 30 may also just be made so that you can only use the augys that say "will fit in any type of slot" as in most of augs that are dropped by mobs rather then buying them from a merchant or crafting them

My guess is that Type 30 is the aug that they would stick in it. So when you give it to the correct page with your epic that it will Aug that page into your slot, type 30.
