This is a group mission which is an integral part of the Dreadspire Keep Access Quest.

Zahn can be found at loc -585, 725 in Undershore, on the shore north of the JTP camp.


You say, 'Hail, Zahn'

(The following is verbatim text, even if it looks oddly constructed.)

Zahn says 'The shiliskin regards you cautiously and speaks several garbled words which you do not understand. He speaks again, this time with different inflections although you still cannot comprehend what he is saying. Finally he speaks in a recognizable tongue, 'Or perhaps you [understand] the language of the clockwork traders?''

You say, 'I understand'

Zahn says 'Then please,' the shiliskin hisses. 'Spare me. I no longer fight for those that would harm you. There isn't much time. I need to make my [escape] into the upper caverns before I am found.'

You say, 'escape?'

Zahn says 'This cavern is a tomb. It seals the last remnants of the Shiliskin Empire behind the walls of Malgrinnor. Soon, even that outpost will fall, if not to the drachnids than to the cursed undead that infest the Empire's former capital. . . So I've made a deal with the clockwork traders in Corathus Creep. I've been assured that I will be well taken care of in exchange for information on Malgrinnor's forces and operations. I just need several things done before I can leave this doomed cavern in peace. Will you [help] me. . . Or better yet. . .can you gather a [group] of elite warriors to lead an expedition into Illsalin?'

You say, 'I can gather a group'

Zahn says 'Thank you, surface dweller! May your gods smile upon you.'

You have been assigned the task 'Deserting the Ranks'.

Whoever requests the task will receive a Shiliskin Heirloom Shoulder Guard to be used later in the mission.

The final mission of the Shilgrave, an elite group of warriors from Malgrinnor, was to attack the temple of Korlach in Illsalin. The frontal assault on the city failed, and the doomed legionnaires were either cut down or captured by the undead within. Zahn alone escaped by diving off a bridge and swimming out of the city. All who know Zahn is still alive are now dead, or soon will be, but still he must be absolutely certain that news of his survival will never reach the Shiliskin Empire.

Zahn wants you to take his heirloom shoulder guard and place it on one of the bodies of one of his slain comrades within Illsalin. If anyone comes looking for him, they'll find his armor and think he's already dead.

Bring back a Shiliskin Captain's Insignia from one of Zahn's fallen comrades. He needs the insignia to bypass several siliskin checkpoints on his way to the gnomes in the Creep of Corathus.

Enter the Nargilor Pits (0/1) - Ruins of Illsalin

Head to the Ruins of Illsalin and zone-in to your instance, The Nargilor Pits. Clear the mobs in the zone until you reach the Guardian of the Pit. Once you have killed him you need to find a randomly placed "ornate chest" in the zone (a tracker is handy). Open this chest and loot its contents. This is your "key" to the door behind the Guardian.

A cold voice echoes through the halls, 'Make haste to enter the chamber or face the end of your endeavor.'

As you enter...

A low rumble thunders through the hall as a heavy coral door slides closed. Hollow laughter echoes through the marble halls.

A strange chill fills the corridor as an ominous figure steps from the shadows. 'Your intrusion here is unwelcome, surface dweller,' echoes a hollow and distant voice. 'Have you come looking for the remains of the Shilgrave Legion? Very well. Soon you will join their souls within the carnivorous pages of Shadowspine. The doors are sealed. There is no escape.'

Find the Remains of the Shilgrave Legion (0/1) - The Nargilor Pits
Place the Deserter's Shoulder Guard on a Shiliskin Corpse (0/1) - The Nargilor Pits
Take a Captain's Insigina as Proof of Your Delivery. (0/1) - The Nargilor Pits

Now that you have entered the final room, move quickly to the left corner (hug left wall in the room).

Turn the Heirloom Shoulder Guard into any of the corpses in the final room (do this as soon as you can). Emperor Draygun will spawn and roam the room. He isn't attackable and just roams around and summons the dead shiliskin to life one by one (or occasionally many at a time if the task is bugged). These shiliskin seem to auto-aggro on the person who had opened the door, so plan ahead.

After approximately 10 mobs, you will get jumped by 3 at once, 2 x legionnaire and 1 x captain. Kill the captain and loot the Shiliskin Captain's Insignia, required to finish the mission. The captain also drops your loot "reward" for the mission.

Zahn says, 'Well done, surface dweller. Here is your promised reward, a glittering gem I pried loose from the tomb of Illsalin. I consider it my payment for my service to the Empire, and now it is your payment for your success. With luck, we shall never meet in this cavern again.'

You also receive a Golden Shiliskin Tentacle Ring, the 4th and final part of the key that gives access to Dreadspire Keep, and a personal reward:

yes it's bugged... sometimes it works like its supposed to and you get a mob per min or so... sometimes a bunch pop on your ***... chanter is a must... and once door shuts you have one shot...

and dps is a must... if you try with a mostly pub/casual group you will get owned...

Tonight we attempted this on NORMAL difficulty with 1 war, 1 shm, 1 clr, 1 mnk, 2 dru. It was very smooth sailing up until the final step. Apparently we didnt have the dps to take these guys down in time, because first mob was at about 30% when 2nd attacked us. Before we knew it, we had 2 reanimated legionnaires and 1 shigrave shade beating on us. 1 druid went down, which was expected, so we evaced. Evac took the group OUTSIDE of the instance. Once some of the others zoned back in, they were transported to seveeral different zones... south ro, oasis, lesser fay... and the dead druid's corpse popped outside by the instance zoneline. When the cleric zoned back in, she said Emperor Draygun kept spamming her saying something along the lines of "banishing your kind", then she was booted to the character select screen. She was TLed to South Ro. The mission updates were darkened as if they had not been completed. Zoned in and zone was fully spawned (even Guardian of the Pit). Also, the shawl was NOT returned to me after the zone reset.

If im not mistaken the reanimated legionnaires respawn as shilgrave shades like they do in the 69.1 mission. So you will need some pretty heavy dps to take care of them before next spawns, or some great crowd control.



Once the door is opened and you the emote messages that pop up say:

Fyi, the person getting mob aggro is the one who turns in the shawl to a corpse. Did this on normal and bard opened the door but the rogue who handed in the shawl got all initial aggro. Plan ahead--have MT get mission, shawl, and loot key.

And there is a passage on the side of the mountain above the watchers. No watchers at all--IVU and run there np.

Did this mission today and here are some helpful (I hope for someone) tips. Did this at normal difficulty.

Getting into the Nargilor Pits - Because invis is rather iffy (some mobs see invis here), have your cleric use Sun Cloak (66) on everyone for fixed duration invis vs undead. Almost nothing in the Ruins of Illsalin can see through it, save watchers. Switch back to regular invis to get past them.

Inside the Nargilor Pits - When you are trying to break the Pits, be aware there is a pit (apparently looking like perfectly good floor) at base of ramp at right side as you look down. If a mob falls into the pit, it runs out through the long curved hallway that has 3 mobs along it. They then come back at you from the right tunnel and always miss falling back in. IE, instant train. Should someone see a mob dissappear, have everyone zone out immediately, then wait 30 seconds after everyone gets out and head back (assuming you zone quickly). You will tend to get 2 mobs, sometimes 3-4 on your first few pulls. CC is very helpful here.

The Key chest - Use Eye of Zomm, Shifting Sight, or similar to locate the chest. It will save you a lot of killing to dead ends.

The Guardian of the Pits, named gargoyle, Rampages alot. Hits fairly hard (1600 ish) but is pretty much debuffable. Slow mitigation (partially) at these levels is standard. I tend to tash and cripple and chain nuke him while out of rampage range to hold rampage and save someone a heck of a pounding. Hopefully you trust your tanks as much as I do mine. :D

The Ornate Shoulder piece Zahn gave you is easily dealt with. Once you enter the room, run quickly to base of ramp. On an altar at the bottom of both ramps is a white con KOS mob laying on it. Simply give the shoulder item to one of them. Nothing to it.

Emporer Draygun - Ignore him - all he does is walk about the room and raises up mobs for you to fight. Kill them as fast as you can. He raises 1 per minute roughly. Mezz or root adds for CC. After killing 8 (I believe), 3 pop up at once - the captain and 2 other legion shiliskins. Concentrate on the captain. Mezz, root, or kite the other 2. When you drop the captain, he has the insignia and the loot drop for this mission.

on difficult setting, he hits 2300 max with 25% shielding, ramps, has knockback DDs. the trash hit middle 1500s

The Guardian of the Pit feared me during our battle. I had never seen him do that on the other 2 missions that I had seen that used this instance zone, but on the hard setting of this mission, he did fear me. Kinda surprised us, but we managed.

Also, the Captain at the end dropped the Deepskin Head Band as a reward, again, this is on hard.

One more thing, the general rewards have been upped a little bit.

Also, I got the feeling that the end sequence, where Emperor Draygun roams the room and awakens corpses is a DPS test of sorts. We weren't killing very fast and Draygun continued sending mobs our way before we were ready. We had to step up the killing quite a bit to be ready for the Captain + 2 adds. The mobs did seem mezzable and rootable though, sooo...that could be one way to deal with this mission.

I was added to the task near it's completion, upon hand in, I recieved my DS piece, as well as 'Shiliskin Reef Swimmer Fetish' the 20 hp, +10 avoidance aug that taylorprime was refering to.

And its bugged to heck. Got to chamber killed about 6 mobs when 4 spawned at once.. no we had dps.. they were dying fast enough.. we got the captain and 2 guards and the shade a yellow con.

So we try again get new mission... get to end.. and there are 3 emperors up... rezzing 3 mobs at once right from start.....
