After completing the previous task by finding the Tomb of Emperor Illsalin (/loc?), you are immediately presented with the task "Vestiges of the Empire."
You run your fingers along the surface of the tomb. Along the bier you find five empty sockets bordered by ancient shiliskin writings... You have been assigned the task 'Vestiges of the Empire'. ALL: Find and Return the Gemstone of Emperor Illsalin to Illsalin's Tomb ALL: Find and Return the Gemstone of Emperor Bloodfin to Illsalin's Tomb ALL: Find and Return the Gemstone of the Faceless Emperor to Illsalin's Tomb ALL: Find and Return the Gemstone of Emperor Sandvarrow to Illsalin's Tomb ALL: Find and Return the Gemstone of Emperor Draygun to Illalin's Tomb You stand before the sarcophagus of Emperor Illsalin, the warlord who united the Shiliskin Empire. Across the surface of the bier are five empty gem-sockets. Whether stolen by looters, pried loose by magic, or simply lost to the ravages of time, the inlayed [sic] gems are gone. Below the empty gem-sockets are ornate runic messages written in the shiliskin language. They read: - - 4144 to 4167 Emperor Illsalin the Gladiator King 4617 to 4903 Emperor Bloodfin 4903 to 5194 The Faceless Emperor 5194 to 5310 Emperor Sandvarrow 5310 to (Blank Space) Emperor Draygun By the grace of the Emperor, these walls shall stand forever. - - Reward(s): The Shattered Blade Gemstone of Emperor Draygun is the reward for completing the "Deserting the Ranks" task. Gem of the Faceless Emperor is the reward for completing the "Spies Like Them" mission. Gemstone of Emperor Sandvarrow drops from instanced tasks involving The Hive, or off named drachnids in the regular Hive. Gemstone of Emperor Illsalin is ar andom drop from undead Shiliskins in the regular Ruins of Illsalin. Gemstone of Emperor Bloodfin drops from shadowmanes in the western part of Stoneroot Falls. After turning in the last gemstone to the tomb, a zone wide emote says: A great rumbling emanates from the statue of Emperor Illsalin as a wave of magic energy explodes through the cavern. The Shattered Sword of Illsalin has found a new wielder. A great rumbling emanates from the Statue of Illsalin. You have been given: The Shattered Blade | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

The Sandvarrow one just dropped in a hard instance of 69.3.

Ok all the information is here, it's just really spread out, here is my attempt to consolidate the information for you potential questers, I hope you like this and it helps you.
Gemstone of Emperor Draygun = Automatic reward of completing Deserting The Ranks, there is already a good writeup about this mission.
Gemstone of The Faceless Emperor = Automatic reward of completing the Spies Like Them mission, there is already a good writeup about it at this site.
Gemstone of Emperor Sandvarrow = Drops mainly from Hive instances off of random mobs, can drop off a high level boss in the regular Hive but your best bet is to stick to instances, can confirm 100% it drops from 69.1, I've also heard it can come from Lost Gnomes.
Gemstone of Emperor Illsalin = Random drop from Undead Shiliskin mobs in the regular Ruins of Illsalin zone. Two places I can confirm it drops, is in the far building to the south of the zone, and through the underwater tunnels inside of the arena.
Gmestone of Emperor Bloodfin= Dropped from Shadowmane werewolfs in the western circular part of the Stoneroot Falls zone, imagine it's a clock, set up your camp at around the "10 o' clock" position.

The "Gemstone of Emperor Sandvarrow" dropped for us off a regular mob in the non-instanced version of The Hive. I don't remember the name of the mob, but it was a roamer on the living bridges.

i tested this a few weeks after the expansion came out and it worked perfect. i dont know if that have nerfed it since then but the way to make it evolve fast is to equip it, shroud down, and have a druid or what ever p-lvl you. i took just around 4 hours to lvl it 1 lvl.
Its by kills weather red or LB its Number of kills. Go to griegs and clear the center in a loop solo you can level a blade every couple hours. Do it by group it takes forever. I have seen 20% an hour.
I haven't got this particular item, but this is NOT true for the evolving weapon I have (Blade of the Eclipse).
At level 4 I get about 1% every 3 kills in GE solo, or 6 kills if duoing. I get 1% every 1-2 kills in the hard Hive instance, in a group of four.
So for that weapon at least you get more exp for killing higher level mobs. However I don't believe you get full credit (i.e. no exp bonus for killing mobs within 5 levels) and I also don't believe you get the 50% exp penalty for light blues.
So fast killing of LBs is probably a good way to go if you want to force it up, but keeping it equipped in normal exp groups should do the trick too.

certain evolving iteams talk some dont wether they talk or not determins if they lvl by kills or by xp

Had Gemstone of emperor illsalin drop off trash in the lost notebook(hard) mission just now.
remember to turn your eveolving xp on heard of a few ppl not realizing they must turn it on

I got a couple of the gems, but when i try to hand them to the tomb, it says it has no need for them.. any ideas on how to give the gems to the tomb???

You must have the quest before looting the gems.

You do not have to have been assigned the task (or its predecessor task) before looting the gems. I have had 2 gems for awhile now. I obtained the Vestiges of the Empire task today and, with the 2 gems in a bag that I was carrying, clicked on the tomb twice. This updated two of the five task's objectives for me.
Just click on the tomb with it in your inventory

Ok, this may have changed since the last i played. I got mine not too long after Expansion came out. as a 70 necro i love to kite in SW basement in HoH, Here is where i manageed to evolve my blade. i was getting roughly .4 to .5 % to the evolve per kill. they may have changed this but unsure. might give it a shot.

oddly enough, 2 kills after i made this post it evolved 1%. So it took roughly 3 aas to make it move 1%. Nice! At that estimated rate it will only take 300 aas to get to the second form. Knowing SoE it will take even more to evolve it to the final form.

I've killed 3 aa worth of mobs in the hive. Didn't move 1%. Has anyone figured out how to evolve this ***** yet?

Found my bloodfin in exact spot listed by Sekai, NW Cave has "elder shadowmanes" those are the good ones. However, now that I have the shattered blade. I've killed probably 50 or 60 various types of mobs, and hasn't even gotten 1 percent. In the manual, it says some evolving items are mob specific (only work on some types) does anyone know if the shattered blade is like that? or what mob it 'likes' to gain exp on?

I read on SoE boards that peeps gotten like 1% increase per 1 aa they make at lvl 70.. If thats the case, its useless.
I just wish SoE would say anything about this.. If it requires spesific mobs it be nice to know.. but making like 200-300 aa to max one of theese items is not only stupid, its way beyond belief.. I wish its not like that tho..

Gemstone of Emperor Bloodfin drops from random trash werewolves in Stoneroot. Mine came from the cave in the northwest area, don't know if its only those or all of them in the zone.

Gemstone of Emperor Illsalin - just had another drop when clearing to ritesmaster verok off a illsalin battle mage (Spelling?) so definitely a random rare drop

Gemstone of emperor illsalin dropped for me off trash in ruins of illsalin - cant remember name of mob as wsa on a raid and gem dropped just as we ported out after killing veru? and named around the south of the zone and had to be looted fast before repops. but drop was definitely off random trash not a named.
