This group monster mission begins with "a dark spirit of Nektulos" which wanders the southern part of Nektulos Forest (you may want a tracker to find it).

You say, 'Hail, a dark spirit of Nektulos'

A voice arises from the trees all around you. It sounds like leaves rustiling [sic] in the wind. A dark spirit of Nektulos says, 'What bringsss you to my woods, mortal: If it's [forgotten things] you ssseek, let me be your guilde. I am older than every leaf and stone of these wodsss. I can lead you to wondrousss things, for a price of course.'

You say, 'What forgotten things?'

You have been assigned the task 'Queen Nok Nok's Tomb'.

Long before the dark elvesss stumbled blinking onto the surface, this small corner of the wodsss marked the domain of the Razor Wing fariesss. Forget what you know of fairies, these creaturesss were evil and twisted and had facesss like rotten fruit. Their civilization, if it can even be called that, is long gone. All that remains is the secred glade-crypt of their old leader, Queen Noknok of the Razor Wing. The entrance to their glade is too small to enter, but I can change you into a fairy which will enable you to wiggle your way inside. Recover the dust on Queen Noknok's wings, I need it to sustain my spirit and will reward you with a treasure most fitting.

Be careful, the Razor Wing fairies were known for their curses and conniving tricks. The also have a strange affinity for ratzzz and magical wisp creaturesss called witch lampsss.

You should avoid attracting the attention of the withch lampsss for they are imperviousss to all formsss of attack. So if you are attacked you must run from them and hope they will forget about you...

Touch the entrance to the Shadowed Grove 0/1 (Nektulos Forest)

The in-game compass will direct you to the instanced entrance.

Find Queen Nok Nok's Tomb 0/1 (Shadowed Grove)

The "Tomb" is a chest located in the cave. Avoid the witch lamps that litter the zone as you cannot damage them. If you're attacked, keep moving forward and they'll eventually lose interest in you:

For some reason the Witchlamp loses interest in you and decides to go back to its section of the woods.

Retrieve the Fairy Dust 0/1 (Shadowed Grove)

Loot the Pinch of Dust from the chest (also in the chest are the item reward and Shards of Wisdom you'll need to get exp). Upon looting the dust:

A strange whisper echoes through the glade. "Over, under, back and through, around again the joke's on you. Woke the queen and drew her curse. Now your fate turns slowly worse. Witch lamps sink to wake the rats, stir them from their lifeless naps.

At this point the witch lamps turn into undead rats.

Break the Curse by Destroying the three Shines 0/3 (Shadowed Grove)

The Shrines look like crystals. A zombie spawns upon "killing" each of them. You can avoid their aggro if you are careful about it.

If (like me) you have trouble getting to the northern-most shrine (labeled #2 on Brewall's map) you can wait for shrine #3 to respawn and kill it twice. It counts both times. Kill shrine #1 first; it's closest to the chest and is easier to kill as there are no wandering zombies yet.

Then, if the zombies that spawn from attacking shrine #1 kill you, you'll be at the entrance. 10 steps north and you can see shrine #3. Kill it, hide, and then just watch a Youtube video or two while waiting for that shrine to respawn. The zombies won't path to you, and it's a super-chill way to get this done.

I'm 2 for 2 on the swords, which was very surprising given the comments from others. I need one more and then I'll never do this mission again as I find it very annoying.

Quick update; my last sword took about 6 more tries. So, I got 3 swords in 8 tries.

Work your way to the chest and open it. If it's what you're after, finish the mission by killing shrine #1 once and shrine #3 twice (or even shrine #3 three times; you can see it and cast on it from the entrance).

If you don't find the item you want, use the command "kick taskp" to remove all players from the shared task. About 60 seconds later you'll be teleported out of the instance. This is quicker and less stressful than crawling slowly back to the zone-in, getting wailed on by invulnerable wisps.

I'm on FV so this sword is a super nice twink weapon.

I keep dropping and restarting the mission trying to get the sword to drop and I've gotten the necklace about 6-7 times in a row now.

Anybody else have success with this method and/or can anyone confirm the drop rate of the sword??

Worked just fine doing it that way. It took my around 10 or so resets to get the sword.

I have found this mission to drop sword about one in three. You are correct in your hopes of leaving mission until you get the correct drop. I have done this mission many times. Takes me about 12-15mins to complete. Main things to remember is don't waste time killing anything other than shrines and make sure that you live long enough after you kill shrines to get updates. I just melee them at less than 25% to be sure, save the closest shrine for last so you wont have to deal with zombies, and if u want exp whoever loots dust leaves first.

Very easy MM if you follow Nydanthesilent's write up.
I 3-boxed this mission over 10 times to finally get the sword. Took me 20 minutes max to finish each mission.
RIP When Shrine Dies
# Aug 24 2007 at 11:34 PM Rating: Decent
Did this with 4 toons a couple times tonight. We noticed if your dead when a shrine goes down you will not get credit for the kill. Had to wait until a respawn to kill it again. Also the loot timer on the chest is 8 min. If your trying to get your group back to the entrance before looting the dust and the timer runs out you'll loose the MM.

Up to date walkthough as of May 11th 2007.

I did this mission 3 times now. Once last night twice tonight. I 3 boxxed it all three times. Here are my thoughts.

You zone in as a ranger fairy. Love it. To funny. The annoying thing is you move way to slow. Jumping helps until you run out of endurance. Each dot on a shrine takes it down 27%. 4 dots kill a shrine. If you die with a dot on a shrine and the shrine dies you will not get credit. The shrines will respawn. Its a slow respawn. Neither of these things are bugs. It would be too easy to win if you could just charge in, cast a dot and die killing the shrine with your dot as you respawn.

There are witchlamps(wisps) everywhere that cannot be killed. If they argo on you just get high on the walls/zone edge to lose argo. I just bulldoze(well you go so slow not sure I should call it that) though to the chest. Losing argo on the walls as I go. Normally only argo a few anyway.

Run to the end and find Queen NokNoks chest. DO NOT loot the dust until you are ready. Have everyone loot the shard for the exp. Don't do this and you will not get exp. Loot the item for the mission. When ready loot the dust. This person must finish the mission or you all fail. When the dust is looted all the witchlamps turn into undead rats. At this point dieing is not so bad. Gets you back to the courtyard fast.

Move the first toon into range of the shrine closest to the cave and dot it one time. Move your other toons. Stay as far away from the shrine towards the start of the mission as you can and still cast on the shrine. Don't cast until no rats are around you. Move and hide as you go. They won't see though hide. Once all three toons are in position and your first dot has worn off(this is important if you only have 3 toons with you), cast your dot with each one as fast as you can and rehide. A zombie will come out at 66% and then like 33%. Don't engage them. You should be out of range of them.

Next move your toons into position for the shrine directly to the left of the shrine you just killed. You don't have to get to close. Rinse and repeat. Remember one dot finished then three fresh dots at the same time. MOVE. get back towards the zone in. The zombies will walk right over your path this time. They all see though hide as far as I can tell.

Last move into range of the closest shrine. Wait until its clear. Watch out for the zombie roamers now. Kill it get back towards the zone in and wait for it to die. Once its dead and you see all three have been killed on your quest list have the person with the dust zone out first. Then all zone out.

Exp

41 Warrior 14%
46 Enchanter 15%
47 Cleric 11%

Not great but hey the sword is nice. Took me 30 minutes the 3rd time. I won all three times. 2 necklaces 1 sword.

Some notes. This is only my 3rd monster mission. I am very new at boxxing. These are my only toons I play now although I had a 60 rogue I played from opening day until Veloius. Then played another rogue to 64 when pop came out. Both on a different server. My first post on this site. Hope you enjoyed it. Going to try some more monster missions. May post my thoughts on those as well. No one does anything but dains it seems. Boring.

Look me up on Erollisi Marr if you want to join me for some MM's or whatever. Gimgar is the name.

EDIT: Did this one more time. Got it down to 21 minutes. Got another necklace. The dark spirit of Nektulos has always been in the SW corner of the zone right near the orc camp. He does not appear to roam far and you shouldn't have to spend more than a few minutes looking for him.

Ok, here is my walkthrough of this mission. Its quite easy although time consuming, but the rewards are definitely worth it, the necklace, and the short sword are both worth it. and with a full group it is about a 30 min MM, not too bad.And I have done it with 4 one being boxed by me. and although the mission takes about a hour its still doable.Im siure you could probably do it with 3 but it would take even longer.

First of all, the skills, get all the skills except fairy fear, which is really unecessary.

Upon zoneing in, you will notice "whitch lamps" which will be yellow con and they cannot be attacked. So dont even try. What you and your group need to do is get to the cave by the chest, and the witch lamps seem to loose aggro when you go right next to zone wall or high up on the cave wall. The cave is to the right of where you zone in at.

Once all of your group is by the box in the cave, and free from aggro, start whacking on the chest. You can only do melee damage to it. When it breaks, everyone loot shard, roll on item but dont loot the Fairy dust untill you have all looted and rolled and are ready for killing.Make sure the one looting the dust can complete the mission, because if he logs off, all of you will have no chance of completing it.

Once the fairy dust is looted, all of the witch lamps turn into rats. Now you do not have to kill the rats to complete the mission, but they are annoying and respawn every 10-15 ish minutes it seems. So you can either kill them on the way to the shrines or just try to avoid them. It is wise to kill the ones by the shrines so you dont get extra aggro while trying to destroy the shrines and fighting ther zombies.

Now your task is to break the 3 spirit shrines, they look like huge crystals floating in mid air.
what will happen is a red conning Zombie dudes will spawn at 60% roghly, and at 30% roughly. So kill them and kill the spirit shrines.I usually like to melee the shrines in the mean time medding and saving mana for the zombie bosses, there is a total of 6 of these to kill, 2 per shrine. Also when you dot these shrines, chances are good to spawn the second zombie while the first is still up. So I dont like dotting the shrines.

After all 3 shrines are destroyed and you get the message "Task stage completed", have the person with the dust zone out first untill all others get the green "Task completed" message on their screen, then you can all safely zone out.

ok my guild and I did this quest last night and Mkopec's guide helped out alot but I think I found a loop hole to this MM. My guild mates and I were having trouble getting to the 3rd shrine and it took us so long that the 1st one near the zone in repopped. So we destroyed it again then made our way to the 2nd one on the map. We destroyed it after destorying the 1st one twice and we got the "Task Stage Completed" message. Now this little bit of information leads me to believe that you can kill the same shrine 3 times to get an easy win. So here is my idea. Go back to the cave kill the chest, get the shards, roll on the item then loot the dust. Get killed to go back to zone in, fight your way to 1st shrine kill it 3 times and it is a short run out of zone. Shouldn't take you longer than 30 minutes or so. Hope this strategy works for ya =)

I don't do alot of MM's, but I went to this one hoping to get the sword.

I did this mission once before the nerfs. Where is the dark spirit now? I went to the spot where I had done this mission previously, and there's no one there and no npc to talk to. Didn't see the spirit on track either.

Has it moved? Is it gone?

Dot's post nerf
# Dec 13 2005 at 12:33 PM Rating: Decent
I think the actual amount of damage that the dot does to the shrine is no just uner 10% - maybe 9.5% for example, as the first dot dropped the shrine to 90% but the next two only dropped it by a (rounded) 9%.

The first GR arrived at the shrine at 57% in our mission, but we had dotted 4 times, and then started dotting again.

There are TWO GR per shrine, and they are staggered; there is a narrow window of time in which to do additional dots.

Rats respawn more rapidly (or the mission just takes longer so repops occur whild doing shrine 2 and/or three)

It looks to me like the strategy is:

Do the box, loot the shards
Move all but one to cave entrance; loot dust
Kill the rats in the area of the first shine, Dot it x 4.
Move to the center and kill the center areas rats.
Dot shrine 1 x 6
Dot shrine 2 x 4
Wait for window to open on shrine 1, dot x 1 (that should do it for #1)
Dot #2 x 6
Wait for window to open on #2, dot x 1
Clear any remaining rats in Zone out area
Dot shrine 3 x 6
Wait for window to open, dot #3 x 6

With the 12-7-05 patch there have been some big changes made to this quest.
1) To prevent "leeching", each participant must now loot a Shard of Wisdom from the destroyed chest. Only by doing so AND completing the task can you gain XP.
2) The Fairy Fire DoT has been reduced in power. Before, one DoT would take a shrine down 16%. Now it only does a total of 10% damage.
3) Previously, a Reanimated Grave Robber would spawn when a Shrine would drop to 50%. Now, it will spawn when the Shrine is at 66%.

One thing for sure...these changes have certainly eased the congestion at the entrance to Shadowed Grove. :<)

i hate the new changes. i would always 4 box these, i would not let people leech, it was only me. i would put one char behind each shrine. i would then go down with my other char and loot the pollen. i would then procede by slaying the crystals and avoiding the robbers.

this made me mad when i tried to do this the other night. it took me a while to set my characters up behind the shrines and then i have to move them? the whole changes were such BS.

i used to HATE this mm... but now that i've gotten the swing of it, it's really easy.

the way people in my guild do it on Fennin Ro...

zone in and everyone run to chest, staying as close to the tree line/walls inside cave so the witchlamps will lose aggro on you.

everyone beat down chest. whoever needs item loots it. all but one person go to the closest shrine outside of cave, then person left loots dust and spawns the rats.

begin killing rats. don't worry about the ones in the cave, but clear the rest of the rats. then sit and med for a few minutes.

starting at the shrine by cave ent, beat it down. when graverobber appears, dot him and with your back to the cave, fear him. rinse, repeat. dot and fear.

move to next shrine. don't worry about back being towards cave anymore. just dot and fear graverobber.

same ole, same ole, blah blah blah. make sure no one is dead when the last shrine is dead.

zone out, shazam... 4 blues regular exp at 65.

the dust? think it gives you the slightest bit of exp... *shrugs* we don't usually bother.

i'm in no way, shape, form, or fashion interested in telling people how they must play this game. this game is to be played how each and every individual player wants to play, and wants to get whatever out of it. but advice is always nice. just my 2 copper. :)

Depths of Darkhollow is the biggest POS ever. I absolutely hate the rediculous amount of EXP that can be had by these missions (Nektulos). Ive done about 10-12 missions and like the ones that actually take time and effort to do but the Nek missions are a killer for this game. Too many people have shot from level 55 or less to 70 without really earning it. Now people that previously have worked on acheiving 65+ the hard way end up grouping with these people who still have the gear, spells and skills of someone of a lower level. I wish they would pull all the exp handed out by these missions... especially the Nek missions. The gear should be scaled down too... for example, there is no way it should take 15 minutes to get a sword of a quality that previously would have cost 100K + or taken a skilled group or raid a substantial amount of time to get.
RE: I hate DoD
# Nov 14 2005 at 6:39 PM Rating: Decent
It is their own fault that they are at 70 with the gear of a 55. Soon they will learn their lesson when they can no longer get a group.
bugged?
# Oct 21 2005 at 5:11 PM Rating: Decent
everyone keeps say this MM is bugged. Did you ever thing it isn't bugged. I have a feeling knowing how SoE works that it is meant to mess things up if you dot and die and it kills the shrine. Think about it. How easy would it be to run in dot and die rinse and repeat? with this so called bug it keeps things in check. You know how SoE works think about it. Would also make since to why it hasn't been fixed.

easy enough, done in under 10 minutes
# Oct 17 2005 at 8:43 AM Rating: Decent
Send 3 to EAST(cave) Crystal, 2 to NORTH and the last person to the cave.

3 at east hide, 2 in north hide person in cave on chest if the guy on chest gets aggro turn around and run into the wall, once you'r ehigh enough the wisps warp.

when dust is looted everyone DOT (fairy Fire) and melee / kick them to death, dont worry about adds and keep each other healed. North and East shrines should fall before graverobbers reach you. feel free to die at this point.

Regroup at enterence kill the rat there, jump on second log and dot the west crystal it'll fall quick. then zone out.

Mission takes about 7 minutes this way.
