This is a group mission which begins in Corathus Creep with Brovil Pallivineg. It is also an integral part of the Dreadspire Keep Access Quest.

Find Crim Sprinklcog and Mazil Hibbinap in Corathus Creep at -715, +385, -45.

There is a normal and a hard version of this mission.

You say, 'Hail, Crim Sprinklcog'

Mazil Hibbinap says 'He's not able to talk with you right now, though I wish he were. We could really use some [help] in figuring out what happened to the rest of his party. He's the only one with firsthand knowledge of the events. Hopefully he'll wake up soon.'

(or)

You say, 'Hail, Mazil Hibbinap'

Mazil Hibbinap says 'Welcome to our camp, Weolyen. You must be another one of the surface dwellers I've seen about down here. Truly you must be a brave person to venture so far down. We could use the [help] of one such as you.'

You say, 'What kind of help?'

Mazil Hibbinap says 'I should fill you in a bit on what's happened and what we know so far, before you commit yourself to something you might regret. When people started arriving from the surface we were visited by Crim here and his friends. They were astonished to find us down here and promised to do what they could to help us. . . just as soon as they explored a bit. They left our camp and then I guess it [happened].'

You say, 'What happened?'

Mazil Hibbinap says 'I heard a commotion and went to investigate. I found a bloody gnome stumbling about the camp with a panicked look on his face. When we realized it was Crim we rushed to aid him. He spouted gnomerish, or uhm, gibberish, and then just fell over. Most of the [information] we have is from his periodic mumbling and rants.'

You say, 'What information?'

Mazil Hibbinap says 'It seems the gnomish friends were down around the great lake somewhere when they were set upon by a large band of drachnids. Unable to hold out long, the party was shortly overcome and bound in webbing. The details are a bit foggy here, but it seems while they were binding Crim up the drachnids were attacked by a group of shiliskins. During the battle Crim was able to slip out and escape. We believe the drachnids drove off or defeated their attackers and then the friends were [taken].'

You say, 'Taken?'

Mazil Hibbinap says 'Most of my brethren believe they were taken to serve as food for the drachnids. I, however, am not quite so ready to give up on them. I would like to know their fate for certain before abandoning them. If you would be [willing] to search the Hive for me I would be most grateful.'

You say, 'I am willing'

Response if too low level:

Mazil Hibbinap says 'Now that I've had a chance to take a closer look at you, I'm afraid I don't know that you'd be able to survive the rescue attempt. Gain a bit more experience and see me again.'

What is required in order to avoid this response?

Proper response:

Mazil Hibbinap says 'You will likely have to search the cocoons you find in the Hive. I suspect it will be difficult to tell what is inside them otherwise. If you would like a starting point for your search, I might suggest checking the drachnid hatchery. I have heard stories too terrible to relate of prisoners being taken there.'

An overview:

Head to the Hive and find the zone-in to The Hatchery (Normal) or Living Larder (Hard), both located in the same spot, in a cavern in the North West of the Hive. The safest route to the instance seems to be via the 3rd cocoon on the Living Bridges, although one has to be careful of web traps.

There are no respawns in this instance of the zone. As you kill spiders, open the cocoons, randomly a gnome will pop out of the cocoon...

Sizz Kipcoil
Alizis Parbrind
Terrzin Wirecrimp
Foddin Slipstring

You say `Hail, Sizz Kipcoil'

Sizz Kipcoil says `Thank heavens you've found me! I've been terrified of what those drachnids had in store for me. You can't believe the things I've heard through that cocoon. Please let me [follow] you out!'

You say `Follow me'

Sizz Kipcoil says `Let's get going! I'll follow right behind you. Please let me know if you need me to [stop]. I wouldn't want to cause you any trouble.

When you reach the zone-out...

Sizz Kipcoil says 'Thank you for helping me escape, I don't know what I would have done without your help!'

Sometimes the gnome won't make it...

Terrzin Wirecrimp collapses to the ground as a drachnid bursts forth from his corpse!

Whoops! No matter.. your task updates anyway. You did the best you could.

Once the forth and last gnome reaches the zone-out (or dies)...

Though you were only able to help two of the gnomes escape it was the best you could have done. Return to Mazil and let him know the fate of the gnomes.

You gain experience!!

You have been given: Gold and Platinum Twined Necklace (3rd part to the Dreadspire Keep Key).

Tonight doing this mission, the first gnome I escorted gave me the emotes that was gonna go Alien on me... but he didn't. He continued to respond to follow/stop commands, but I couldn't get him to escape or turn into a drachnid. I did get a task update, so I just parked him in a spot I'd already cleared and continued the mission.

Later, while I was still looking for the second gnome, I accidentally killed my pet. However, due to the bugged gnome, I could neither unsuspend my bagged pet nor summon a new one within the instance. Suspending my merc didn't help either. Evidently the gnome was so grateful for saving him, he wanted to be my pet. Zoning out then back in fixed the problem, although the gnome was still there. I left him be and continued the mission to its conclusion, where I'm now 0 for 9 on the AC aug. Joy. (EDIT: I meant the one that can be in the chest, not the cursor loot from the normal version.)

Anyway, if something happens where the gnome goes off script, I'd suggest just zoning out then back in.

If you happen to spawn a gnome and a spider jumps him and kills him.. Mission OVER...! So either escort him to zone line on a safe path and then wait for him to zone out and say "thanks for saving me" or wait for him to poof into a spider.. either way it should update the task...

This is a decent instance for experience. I'm using this to max out my toons in level 70, in anticipation of the new 75 level cap in the next expansion. In a group of 5, all toons get a full yellow of regular XP (at 70) from one completion, which takes between 2 and (ugh) 4 hours, depending on my luck finding the 4 damnable gnomes.

AA experience FLIES in here. My druid soloing gets over 4 blues per kill, which can amount to an AA in less than 30 minutes if pushing it.

I've switched to this from Nest instances for pure AA xping since the mobs here are much more accessible---very little downtime searching for and pulling them. Fewer gaters and cleric-type self-healers, too. And the rare trash loot is no more common than that Nest HP/mana augment which I've seen ONCE (and lost the roll) in hundreds upon hundreds of kills.

I've been disappointed in the chest loot so far. In 6 completions I've seen 4 of those useless (to me) chain pants and 2 so-so augments. No Tip Top Chopper or that decent all/all earring... yet....

Moving in The Hive, particularly a hydra-group, is a working definition of the acronym "PITA." What drives me nuts is I've found at least three ways to get to this instance but every time I go back after a while I forget the routes and inevitably I waste an hour or two wandering aimelessly, with the attendant deaths and evacs adding to the aggravation.

So I'm documenting one sure-fire "relatively safe" way to get to the instance. This route is via the Living Bridge. I know there are short-cut ways through the lower levels but I'll be darned if I can find one atm so I leave it to someone else to post any of those routes.

First, get onto the Living Bridge. This is a whole trick unto itself and if you don't know how to do this, here's the basic idea, although you may have to practice it a few times to get it right. I've known people who never manage to do this right, probably due to slow comps where the lag makes it impossible to do the necessary jumps accurately.

Get SOE or lev and zone into the Hive. Invis up. Head to the first structure, the one called "East Obelisk" on maps. To the right of the entrance is a tall flat wall section. RUN UP IT! You'll come to a ledge. It is possible, but sometimes tricky, to maneuver onto the ledge. But for this purpose it isn't necessary. At the top, turn right, look up a bit and jump over to the side of that mountain dead ahead. Now run along the side of the mountain, bearing right. You're hooking around the mountain to the right but hug it tight on your left side. If you get too far away from the mountain you'll end up zoning into Stoneroot.

As you come around the mountain you will see the Living Bridges and the hive structures dead ahead. You want to end up at the base of the closest living bridge, right next to one hive. It's about the only place you can land. If you haven't stayed up high enough you will miss the bridge and land on the ground. Then you need to try again from the East Obelisk wall.

Back to the Living Bridges. You should be on the lowest ramp, right in front of the entrance to the first hive. You need to get up two ramp levels. To accomplish one of those, enter this hive and head UP one level. Exit onto the Living Bridge. Nothing "should" see invis here but do con stuff and watch out for rare nameds who usually do SI.

Follow the exit bridge its full length to the next hive, which should be full of static hivetenders. Go UP the ramp as far as it will take you. Exit left onto a higher level Living Bridge. Follow this Bridge as far as it takes you to yet another hive. Carefully con the mobs inside. None are likely to see invis but I wouldn't wanna bet a CR on it.

If no danger lurks within, cross the room to the hive tunnel you should see on the other side. Go down being careful with the web in the tunnel. As you may already know, these webs are traps which can strip invis. Go through the web when no mob is nearby and be prepared to reapply invis right away. The instance entrance is the yellowish triangular stone "door" flanked by "coat racks" topped with skulls.

If you do this with a pickup group save yourself an hour or two and some corpse rezzes by including a mage and CoHeroing the group to here. Just watch out for the wanderer who comes close to the entrance and time your casts appropriately.

what's cool about the dod "random" drops that can come off any mob in zone, is that its coded by the zone, not by the mob.
That's why you can open a cocoon and have one, but most importantly, sit at zone in, cast eyes for a few hours killing them, and can loot off of them.

Hard has all yellow and red mobs, they hit a bit faster, and harder.
With 2800 ac, they max hit was about 1300?
With a good agro tank, slow asap.
If the healer isn't prepared on what to expect, they will drop folks pretty fast. Start with quick heals only, until you all get comfy.
But,
you can still kite it if anything.

I've done this mission a few times now, and I had something happen tonight that I had never had happen before. I was pulling and I opened up a cocoon that spawned a gnome. After telling him to follow, he pathed kind of funny and aggro'd a drachnid. I allowed them to fight for a minute without my party's help and noticed that the gnome was actually beating up the drachnid. The drachnid eventually reached the HP level where he decides to run, aggroing several other drachnids. My group evac'd when we saw the gnome die. We ended up clearing the entire zone hoping to still win the expedition, but this turned out to cause us to lose. Don't let any of your gnomes die! :)
Do not let gnomes die

Wish I would have read through all the player comments first. Spent nearly 5 hours in there to get this part of my DSK access done. The very first gnome I see pop, agroed a nearby spider. Nearly kills it, but ends up dead. I recieved no quest update, but thought nothing of it, because there were like tons of other cocoons and all I needed were 4 gnomes so no problem. WRONG!!!!! I opened every single cocoon and was one gnome short for the win. If you loose a gnome, leave the mission and start over, because at this point, you are waisting your time.

On a side note, you can use the fellowship campfire to port others into the instance and the easiest way I found getting there was from the zone in, take the first tower. Go down one level then through the webbed door. Your quest compass will start pointing right towards another door after the webbed door, don't go that way. Instead go up through all the mobs in the middle of the room/cavern. Your invis will drop, don't stop or slow down!! Keep running and stay ahead of the wave. Go through the hallway at that end and just follow it up. Once you're out of the hallway, you'll be on the level where the zone in to the instance is at and just follow the quest compass to it. I ran my rogue there..no problem of course and found that to be the most straight forward way. Then I ran my 7500hp with full buffs mage there with no problems, but probably because his pet ran buffer. Then forgetting to even use the mage for coth, I ran my cleric in and probably his hitpoint dropped from 8000ish to 4k. just don't slow down when invis drops.

Did this on normal with:

70 War (Had 11k hps and 1700 acs buffed)
70 Clr (1st had to go, got another that was 70 though)
70 Mage (again, left, so we got another mage)
70 Bard/Rng (Bard left with Sham, so we got a Rng)
70 Sham (Left so we got another,,, again lol)
70 Sk - Me.

We tanked most of it, wasn't hard at all, just get single pulls; and those aren't hard at all.

When you go to a cocoon do /open, be ready for a mob, exp/nothing, or a Gnome. Hail the Gnome and say follow if he pops. For the mob, we had shili. mobs, ragepaws, was really wierd. (Bug?)

Anyways, when Tank died or we had adds we kited the add with Rng or I, normally we both did it while rest of the grp focused on the main mob, was easy, Melee got 20 Ac augs while Caster got 2% Stun Resist Augs.

Some Chain Helm dropped, think Sham won, grats.

Took total of 3 hours with getting new peeps/members leaving, but we finished it =). Again, this was on Normal, War had no problems; you can kite the whole thing out, get 2 Mages, 2 Rangers, and 2 Necros lol, easy kiting for that if you really wanted to. It should work.

Did this tonight, had some afk guildees join group so i could get the task. Made my way to the zone and kited some then 2 of the group members decided to come help, made it go faster. its good xp. got augs at the end and part for the DS key. there are no respawns and they dont summon and i only got hit by a few dd's from some of the caster mobs, so theyre easy to resist. hard part was opening the eggs and gettin instant aggro from the mob that popped out, so i had the pally and sk that came open them and i would aggro right away if a mob came out.

Also if you get a gnome out of a egg and you tell him to /follow you he follows but sometimes they say something along the lines of "i dont feel so well" when you see that that means they are going to change into a mob within a few seconds so get far away of you plan on kiting. once you kill the mob your task gets updated and counts as a gnome that you helped get out.

To get to the instance is a few different ways you can go, but its in the green part on your map, with all the tunnels and squigly lines. its the same instance zone as the 69-3 spell task i believe.

Standing underneath their open air tent and between the two npcs, their overall location is
-706.30 393.06 -45.65 in CC.

Basically they are located in the southern part of the expeditionary camp. Mazil does all the talking since Crim had his unfortunate run-in with the drachs.
