Find Cartographer Slipgear in Corathus Creep at -285, +200.

What level is this mission/task directed towards?

You say, 'Hail, Cartographer Slipgear'

Cartographer Slipgear says 'Bzzt! Well hello there! It's always nice to see a new face! I get so tired of all the same faces and places, don't you?
Unfortunately my left leg is jammed and all I can do right now is walk in little circles! Bzzt! This has made it pretty hard for me to finish up the maps I have started of the surrounding areas. Would you like to [help]?

You say, 'I would like to help.'

Cartographer Slipgear says 'Great! What I need is really pretty simple. I've managed to overhear some of the new arrivals talking about some of the surrounding areas and they sure do sound really exciting! Bzzt!
Since I can't go there myself right now I was hoping you could visit each one and then come back and describe them to me so I can add them to my maps. Do you [accept the mission]?'

You say, 'I accept the mission.'

Cartographer Slipgear says 'Thanks! Here's the list of places I would like to hear more about. Bzzt! Come back and see me when you have finished with this list!'

The "list" of things to do:

-Explore the Depths (pretty simple exploration of the
Corathus Creep, reward is Slipgear's Gem)

-Chart the Undershore (exploration of the Undershore, reward is increased stats on Slipgear's Gem)
-Explore Stoneroot Falls (exploration of Stoneroot Falls, reward is increased stats on Slipgear's Gem)
-Beware the Hive (exploration of The Hive, reward is increased stats on Slipgear's Gem)
-Brave the Ruins of Illsalin (exploration of Ruins of Illsalin, reward is increased stats on Slipgear's Gem)

To get him to respond on the next set of tasks, make sure you have put Slipgear's Gem into an open augment slot in your gear.

Disagree about level 50 for quest
# Sep 24 2005 at 11:37 PM Rating: Decent
You don't have to be 50 to do this quest... just brave. I completed the entire string of quests in about an hour with a level 8 BST wearing the level 5 Goblin Rogue shroud. Got a DMF and a SOW, then made sure i hit sneak/hide. Got lucky and nothing in The Hive saw me.

Not sure if you get full stats at this level, but as soon as i get a charm, i'll let you know. Took me from level 8 to 11 when i did final hail.

does it screw up magus?

If you switch and use this charm aug, can you still use the LDon Magus?
RE: does it screw up magus?
# Nov 13 2005 at 2:23 PM Rating: Decent
As long as you have the LDON charm in your inventory somewhere, you can use the magus'.

i put this on my figurine today after deleting my first one which had the ldon aug to try this out.
The magus will still port you after talking to the dwarf for a new charm and putting this in the magus's still port me.

Not sure if thats because they changed it or you get some hidden flag when you get the aug in the first place. Although thinking back it may not be that hidden i seem to remeber yellow text saying "you have taken a step to becoming a great adventurer" or something.
RE: does it screw up magus?
# Sep 24 2005 at 12:19 AM Rating: Decent
The charm aug is not required to be installed to use the Magus. Low levels in particular probably don't have charm (at least if they came to the game pre tutorial) but can still use the Magus if they have received the Adventurer's stone.

Rogue Shroud Use in The Hive
# Sep 19 2005 at 7:15 AM Rating: Decent
The rogue shroud (I used the level 65 one as I ain't quite 70 yet) got me through the Hive. The trick in the hive is there are web traps that will turn off sneak/hide that you can't sense and, as such, disarm.

However, these traps are easy to spot and get around. Look for a web that goes all the way across a tunnel. If you see one, wait until no mobs are near. Run through the web. If the trap goes off you'll get a message that says "You have become entangled in a web." Stop, turn hide/sneak back on again, and continue.

Con everything and look for stuff that sees invis. I don't think I could have done the Hive without the rogue shroud.

Using the goblin shroud is worthless in the hive. people keep saying to use it, and there are plenty of mobs that see invis and sneak hide.

There are random mobs that can see through invis or hide, but if you can get out of their line of sight, sneak will get you past them.

None see thru the shroud that I have found. I used the gobbo shroud to finish my quest in the Hive. Nothing saw me. The traps are what makes u visible and gets u killed. Couldn't sense them with the lv70 rogue shroud. Sitting still doesn't help either, tried it to wait for a roamer to pass, and still eventually got nailed by a trap /shrug.

Did all 5 of these today.

Did first 3 1/2 on the way to a mission in the Hive, using downloaded maps, bobbing corpse, gather shadows, and j-boots.

Later, finished up RoI and Hive portions as 70 gobbie rogue with j-boots (transferred via bank) and 5 dose potion of antiweight.

Died once in RoI to a war magus in the throne room, and just about scared the bejeezus out of myself going through those zones conning every damn thing that moved, but finished up and hit the hotbutton for return to shroud merchant.

Doing them straight through should only take a couple hours, which is prolly what you'd spend camping a lesser aug in OoW zones anyway.

Oh, and for the record, they've apparently fixed the bug about doing multiple quests without hailing. Twice tonight I did one hail to finish out two of the quests, and aug got stat upgrades on zoning. No problem.

Why use Jboots? I just bought the rogue goblin Run5 with the points they give you. It wasn't like I planned to fight with him anyhow.

I found cloudy potions a lot more useful than sneak/hide for the first three zones.

Same with the Living Isles and Queen Sendai Shrine. Kinda odd.

Once you finish all 5 missions, the aug is:
AC 8 +15 all stats, +8 all resists 40/40/40 HP/Mana/Endurance

If you use Rogue shroud it is easy to do the CC, Undershore and Stoneroot.

I am a cleric and found it easier to use ITU in Ills, The hive was a DA fest. :)

Which shroud lets you sneak?
# Sep 15 2005 at 1:28 PM Rating: Decent
Which Shroud lets you hide/sneak? The closest I could find is the fairy trickster who has lev and invis. The goblin rogue didn't even have sneak! I went through all of them and either I missed it or its an ability of a lvl 2 mob.
RE: Which shroud lets you sneak?
# Sep 15 2005 at 1:53 PM Rating: Decent
The Goblin rogue. It doesn't show in ability list as those are just the monster abilities and innates. Once in the shroud, you can get hide and sneak from your skills window, just like a normal class.
RE: Which shroud lets you sneak?
# Sep 23 2005 at 6:05 PM Rating: Decent
I have done the first three stages of this task (up to and including Stoneroot Falls) with the level 5 goblin rogue, the level 20, 35, and 65. As far as I can see, the only disadvantage of the lowest level rogue is that it takes a lot of clicks to get hide/sneak working - once it's on, level 5 seems to be as good as level 65 (haven't tried 70).
See invis in Hive
# Sep 15 2005 at 10:44 AM Rating: Decent
I have completed all of the 5 missions except for 2 locations in the Hive that seem to be guarded by mobs that see though sneak/hide that you get using the rogue spirit shroud.

OK... easy way to do this. If you can get quest you can also get a rogue shroud in PoK... use the rogue form to sneak to all locations. Easy.
should it increase after one task?
# Sep 15 2005 at 12:45 AM Rating: Decent
i was working on this task before my character got stuck and i can't log him in anymore.. yay for undertested expansions.. anyways, after doing the corathus task to get the charm + the undershore task, it said my charm glowed with power after completing undershore but i still saw no stats on it.. is this a bug or do you have to complete more than 1 additional task to get stats?
RE: should it increase after one task?
# Sep 15 2005 at 12:52 AM Rating: Decent
You need to make sure you aug it in your charm item and then zone to a new area before the stats will show.

You will get stat increases after each of the 5 tasks, but you only see the increases if it's aug'd in your charm item and you zone into any area after talking to Slipgear and finishing each task.

Xithus, Did you complete all 5 tasks before the patch this mornin OR did you complete all 5 before you actualy augged it in? I know i did 3 tasks before actually sticking it in the aug, and nothing would ever show up. As soon as I finished a 4th task today, and hailed it finally updated. You might need to talk to a GM if didn't aug it before you did all the tasks

As of last night (9/14)I had 4 of 5 tasks done. No stats on the aug. Today after patch (9/15) it has stats, but not what it should for doing 4 of 5 tasks. It has 2 AC, +3 to all stats, +10 hp/mana/end, +2 to all saves. I have petitioned about it, but no word yet.
RE: should it increase after one task?

I s/w a GM about this...they are aware of the bug. Anyone who started the quest and received the aug prior to 9/15 has a bugged aug. The max stats SHOULD BE...blah blah stats 50 HP/Mana/End blah blah resists. Not to sure on the rest. I /bugged it and petitioned, the gm SAID that it would be fixed this patch 9/21, WELL 9/21 comes and goes and no fix. I suggest sony just allow us to switch out the old bugged aug for a new max stat one if we finished the missions. That, of course, would mean another petiton and more dentistry(pulling teeth) to get a GM to freaking believe you. Originally, I had to petiton 2 TIMES to get a GM to have even a half-way acceptable response for me. The first time...I spoke with a GM(guide), who escalated the petition, which was answered by the Lead GM. BUT!!!, he gave me some BS patented response about how I should zone and check it and re-equip it and check it, instead of doing some freaking research and just saying "hey, thanks for your petition, I need to verify the bug of course as it is a new one. I will elevate it to the live team for debugging, but unfortunately the aproximate time for fixing this is unkown at this time." NOOOO, he told ME to freaking /bug it..the damn goober. I dont get paid to /bug your crappy programming sony. Fix your broken crap and know your role.
