Derin Mausrel may be found at -445, -370.

You say, 'Hail, Derin Mausrel'

Derin Mausrel says 'Greetings my friend, do you know these lands well? I'm looking for some help from someone who knows the area well, particularly [Befallen].'

You say, 'I know of Befallen.'

Derin Mausrel says 'I have traveled here from Erudin in search of my niece. Her name is Fellia Mausrel, daughter of Dleria and Soriel Mausrel. Fellia has been missing and I have tracked her whereabouts to this dark place called Befallen. I'm afraid if I don't hurry and rescue her, her life may be in [serious danger].'

You say, 'Serious danger?'

Derin Mausrel says 'A long time ago Soriel was one of a group of Paladins who tracked down Marnek Jaull and was said to destroy him. Marnek Jaull was an evil necromancer who led a small cult of necromancers who worshipped Solusek Ro. Marnek used to make ceremonial sacrifices to Solusek Ro to show his power and loyalty to his god. Since I started out on this journey I have discovered that Marnek was not destroyed like legend has it. I believe he has taken Fellia as revenge and will try sacrificing her to Solusek Ro. Will you help me [rescue Fellia]?'

You say, 'I will rescue Fellia.'

A Task window appears offering you the mission "The Rise of Marnek." Accept it.

Derin Mausrel says 'You will need to be careful in there. Marnek has been building an army of undead led by Skeleton Lrodd. From what I have gathered is Lrodd carries the Ancient Dagger of Marnek that is used in Marneks ceremonial sacrifices. You must recover that dagger from Lrodd and place it on the ceremonial table. Marnek is very evasive and must think that everything is going as planned. Are you [ready to travel] into the depths of Befallen?'

Make sure your group is ready, then:

You say, 'I am ready to travel.'

Does Derin say anything here?

You are teleported into an instanced version of Befallen.

LOADING, PLEASE WAIT ...

You have entered Befallen: The Rise of Marnek.

Note: if you die, you can go back to Derin Mausrel and say "I am ready to travel" again to get teleported back into the instance. If you drop the Task while inside, you will get booted out of the instance within a minute or two, just like in other Shared Tasks.

Explore the ruined entrance inside Befallen. 0/1 (Befallen)

Seek out Mazin T'Mar. He holds the key to the second floor. 0/1 (Befallen)

Recover the key to the lower depths of Befallen from Mazin's fresh corpse. 0/1 (Befallen)

Loot the Splintered Wooden Key and Charred Bone Key.

Stop Skeleton Lrodd before he attacks with his army. 0/1 (Befallen)

Kill Skeleton Lrodd, who isn't where he usually spawns near the well, but is instead out in the main entrance hall at -306, -42. He begins summoning waves of 4 mobs.

Recover the damaged dagger from Skeleton Lrodd. 0/1 (Befallen)

You loot a Damaged Dagger of Marnek, a 5-slot container.

Seek out Trekiz G'Noir. He holds the key to the bottom floor. 0/1 (Befallen)

Trekiz is behind a collapsed ceiling at -509, -189.

Recover the key to the lower depths of Befallen from Trekiz's fresh corpse. 0/1 (Befallen)

You want the Smoked Glass Key.

Explore the basement for a mystical power source. 0/1 (Befallen)

Recover a red mystical chip. 0/1 (Befallen)

Recover a blue mystical chip. 0/1 (Befallen)

Recover a purple mystical chip. 0/1 (Befallen)

Recover a green mystical chip. 0/1 (Befallen)

Recover a yellow mystical chip. 0/1 (Befallen)

Place the five colored mystical chips into the damaged dagger. 0/5 (Befallen)

You craft a Mystical Dagger of Marnek.

Kill Skrepiz Plaguebringer. He is one of Marnek's enforcers. 0/1 (Befallen)

He may be found at -838, 108.

Place the dagger on to the ceremonial coffin. 0/1 (Befallen)

The task updates when you approach the coffin at -989, -163.

Put an end to Marnek's power by recovering the ancient dagger. 0/1 (Befallen)

Target the coffin and type /open to spawn Marnek.

Marnek is upset that you interrupted his [ceremony].

Click "ceremony."

You click that word and he says "Yes I was about to sacrifice someone to Solusek Ro to prove my loyalty and power to him. [Fellia] will pay for what her father and his fools attaempted to do to me." You say, 'Fellia'. Marnek Jaull says, "Enough of this talk, you will surely pay just as she will. Minions grab them and prepare them for the ceremony. Their deaths will be next." At this point two 'Minions of Marnek' spawn and attack, but Marnek himself will not. Once the minions are defeated, then Marnek will attack. He is a human caster class and at about 20-30% health he morphs into a red skeleton, which was pretty cool. Once you get him to 0%, he ports out of the zone and shouts "You haven't stopped anything here today. Soriel and his pathetic friends couldn't stop me years ago nor will you!" Fellia stands and thanks you, which spawns the chest you need to open to obtain the dagger to complete the quest (which you get to keep). Once looted, a second chest will appear with your reward(s).

Rescue Fellia Mausrel 0/1 (Befallen)

You have rescued Fellia from Marnek Jaull before he was able to sacrifice her. Marnek escaped in the nick of time but there will be other days for that battle. Excellent work on rescuing Fellia brave adventurer!

More information needed: exact descriptions of task stages and dialogues, additional dialogues with Derin Mausrel and other quest NPCs, list of rewards, fight information, quest items required, /loc of quest mobs, etc.

Unavailable to Level 100 to 105... nor Level 15...

Tried to take a level 15 through this quest with a Level 100, no way to do it no matter what kind of group composition I tried.

I suppose one could try to start the quest with a Level 30-40 character.

I completed this quest twice this week with 2 different characters hoping to earn that 2HB, but struck out both times. The first time I took my 40 pally with a J1 healer merc, and a 33 wizard with his J1 warrior merc. the wizzy was needed to fill the party so we could get the quest to activate, but then logged shortly after we entered Befallen and it still let me complete it on my own. However, my pally got up to level 43 and it wouldn't let me back into the quest for a second go at it, so I brought my 30 berserker instead the second time.

Here is the list of tasks as they appear in the quest window:

-Explore the ruined entrance inside Befallen.
-Seek out Mazin T'Mar. He holds the key to the second floor.
-Recover the key to the lower depths of Befallen from Mazen's fresh corpse.
-Stop Skeleton Lrodd before he attacks with his army.
-Recover the damaged dagger from Skeleton Lrodd.
-Seek out Trekiz G'Noir. he holds the key to the bottom floor.
-Recover the key to the lower depths of Befallen from Trekiz's fresh corpse.
-Explore the basement for a mystical power source.
-Recover a red mystical chip.
-Recover a blue mystical chip.
-Recover a purple mystical chip.
-Recover a green mystical chip.
-Recover a yellow mystical chip.
-Place the five colored mystical chips into the damaged dagger.
-Kill Skrepiz Plaguebringer. He is one of Marnek's enforcers.
-Place the dagger on to the ceremonial coffin.
-Put an end to Marnek's power by recovering the ancient dagger.
-Rescue Fellia Mausrel

My reward the first time was : https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=60224
My reward the second time was : https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=57064

Okay, a few notes. I know it looks like a lot of tasks, but it really isn't. The two 'explore tasks' and the 'place the dagger...' task complete themselves when you are in the vicinity of that area. To find Mazin, from the main room where you zone in, take the second door on the right. This will lead you to hallway where there will be a door to both the left and the right, and a well straight ahead. Take the door to the right, and he is around the corner (-319, 175). Upon looting the key from him, Skeleton Lrodd will spawn in that main room at (-306, -42). During the fight, he conjures up 4 waves of 3-4 minions to help him, so be prepared to fight! In case you didn't know, the dagger you loot from him is a five slot container. Next, take the key you looted from Mazen and unlock the second door to the left. Take that downstairs, hang right through a series of rooms with mummies and zombies, through the door that you will need the charred key to unlock, and you will find a room that has a chunk of collapsed ceiling in it, with bats swarming about. Trekiz is behind that collapsed ceiling, out of sight (-509, -189). Next, on to the wisps. You can find them by either falling down that well I mentioned earlier or there is a secret passage to them down the same hall that has the warbone skellies (-640, -89). Once you have killed one of each color of wisps, place the chips inside that dagger and click combine. This will spawn Skrepiz. To find this Troll, head to the large room where the ghouls are and take the door to the right. This hallway will lead you into a room, and he will be in a room attached to it straight ahead (-838, 108). Not a bad idea to clear the room prior to spawning him, but I survived with my 30 berserker and a J1 healer merc. Once he is defeated, you will need to head back to the ghoul room and take the door that is straight ahead. This hallway winds around until you see a coffin (-989, -163). Walking near this coffin will complete the 'place the dagger...' bit. Next you need to target the coffin and click 'open'. This will spawn Marnek and you will see Fellia resting inside. Marnek is upset that you interrupted his [ceremony].

Overall this quest was fun and great exp! I know my directions may seem confusing, but once you are familiar with Befallen's layout you can avoid visiting 2/3's of this dungeon. Also, the quest timer is set at 5:30, but like I said, you can complete in an hour if you know the layout. I had some undead invis pots and some regular invis pots which cut down some time as well. Ornate defiant gear drops down there as does skeleton parts for alchemy, a couple steel ingots, and Marneks minions drop a 2HS, but found nothing else of real value. I plan on doing this a couple more times to try and get the reward I'm after, so if I'll post more if I learn more!

Completed for the third time, reward was this : https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=57065

1) I was wrong about the quest timer, it starts at 6:00 hours.
2) I estimate that Marnek has 6K HP.
3) I completed in 1 hour.

Still waiting for that 2HB reward lol, I guess I'll try it again!

I went looking for Derin Mausrel tonight and couldn't find him at his accustomed spot, or anywhere else in WC. I wonder if he got removed deliberately or whether it was an accidental side effect of all the werewolves currently roaming the zone.

Edit: After the recent merging of East/West Commonlands, I went looking again and this time I found him at -440, +79. Maybe he got moved to the new Commonlands zone before it went live, hence his absence from West Commonlands a few weeks earlier?

High level Dark Elves in EC and WC

I(30 bard)went with some guildies to do this mission, and most of us were killed several times before we even got started. There are now 60+ teir'dal scout roaming all over EC and WC. A 65 epic rogue friend of mine came over to check it out and some of them conned white to him. He tried to fight one of the blue ones and had to zone. Within seconds it had him down to 30% and it was only down to 86%. It was hitting for 583 per hit and was hitting FAST. And they backstab. Not to mention they are invis until they attack. Be very carefull when you do this quest. Have your group invisable, and have someone who is on good or indifferent faction with the dark elves get the mission, because one of the times I got gacked was when I was talking to Derin Mausrel. Them guys are everywhere, and unless you have see invis on, you won't even see them in time to run.

Lousy quest

Spent time to find it to be a dagger if I rememeber right that was not worth looting. Oh if you dont drop the first guy fast enough he will spawn plenty of aide to his side, I was not ready to mezz so many the first time around. Shame the reward is not worth the time or effort in my honest opinion.

Llrodd spawns skeletons at 75% 50% and 25% health, so your assumption that you need to kill him fast is incorrect. It's much smarter to stop killing Llrodd so fast and instead kill his adds when he spawns them. There are a number of ways you could do this... In fact when we killed him we did it very very slowly, with most of the damage done by a series of DoT's cast by the druid in our group who kited him the entire time.

As for whether or not the quest as a whole is worth it?
*shrug*

This quest came out with the patch of 11 May 2005. In the patch message obviously disregarded by some folks it said:

The ancient necromancer Marnek Jaull has returned to the dark halls of Befallen and kidnapped the daughter of a paladin of Prexus for use in his evil rituals. Derin Mausrel, uncle of the kidnapped girl, has traveled to West Commons in search of adventurers around levels 30 to 40 to help him rescue his niece and destroy the necromancer once and for all.
Whoa!

as a 70 enchanter with qciv+ gear I soloed this whole thing easy. only things i can remember that well was Marnek Jaull summoned 2 minions to his side before you could fight him. After you kill Lrodd, go down to the 2nd floor where the SK who dropped the smoked glass key spawned for your next named mob to kill, don't remember the name but he was a wuss as well. After killing him go to the 3rd floor where commander windstream spawns, the same area where you wind up if you jump down the well, and kill the new colored wisps there. You need to kill one of each of the 5 colors, loot a colored gem from them, and put that gem in the dagger looking container you recieve from killing Lrodd. Then combine everything for a different dagger. Then travel to the caves on the oppisite side from the well drop down, to where the other SK used to spawn, you should find "something" coffin. Click/open/inspect it with the newly made dagger on you, and it spawns Marnek, who summons 2 minions, kill them, kill marnek, then hail Fellia Mausrel, who is standing inside the coffin. Hope all this helps!

Your killing me Stud.

You had me at the edge of my seat in suspence right up till when you Killed Lrodd.

Most great Hero's are able to spread out such great deeds over an entire story. But not you Captain Cool.

Uber Coolness was all I could think of as you move down to the 2nd floor where the sk who dropped the smoked glass key for the next named mob that was totally PWND when you called him a WUSS.

The fine detail was amazing for the last of us who locked up the place 5 years ago. I found your directions right on the mark. I give credit to my TARD language skill that btw is maxed. I understand all you window lickers to my regret.

BEVUS & BUTTHEAD beat on you because of the WINGER T-Shirt you wear Cydral. I would think with your fine attention to detail that any ebayed lv 70 enchanter could have given to a "DUH I was just board" trip to Befallen would figure that out. <punch>

Hence the joke which I must admit is very funny is the lv 70 with full on Qvic gear ( haha that cracks me up ) who brags about going to befallen. The loud cackle you hear is all of us pointing and laughing at you oh mighty wussy slayer. I am waiting on some loser who is like 50ish to top your thrilling tale. heh

Go get em Killer !

How did you solo a shared task that requires you a group in order to start it? just a question for a "Lvl 70 Enchanter."
Did this quest with Friends

I did this quest with friends as I was informed that the mobs scaled to average level of raid.

NOT!!

Did not happen. At best the mobs are lvl 25 sumptin.
If you got any kind of AA xp out of this your a god. Or just very lucky.

A good tactics task for lower level characters.

What level were you when you did this quest? i'm guessing the reward is appropriate for the level that the quest is set for. Try doing these at the recommended level and you would be pleasently suprised at the XP and the quality of loot, compared with what kind of loot you can normally get at that level.

I wouldn't say that. Got 20% of an AA in roughly an hour solo doing this quest. Plus a weapon that's listed as being given out in a GM event.
