This quest results in the Medallion of the Jarsath, which is one of three medallions needed for the Rune of Scale Quest to get into Veeshan's Peak. Xiblin Fizzlebik may be found on the chessboard island.

You say, 'Hail, Xiblin Fizzlebik'

Xiblin Fizzlebik says 'Hello, ______! I am Xiblin Fizzlebik, renowned archeologist and historian of Ak'Anon. I'm currently in search of artifacts and relics on the Iksar [Jarsath tribe]. If you stumble upon anything, please bring it to me.'

You say, 'What Jarsath tribe?'

Xiblin Fizzlebik says 'About two thousand years ago, there were five different tribes of Iksar who dwelled on the continent of Kunark. One of these tribes was the Jarsath. They were a very primitive sort, proud and tribal, but also cannibalistic. Often, they went to war with the other tribes that co-existed with them, back then. The ruins found on this island were of structures created by the Jarsath. I've been excavating for quite some time now, but haven't been able to find anything of significance.'

You say, 'What are you looking for?'

Xiblin Fizzlebik says 'In my studies, I have learned that the Jarsath believed they could draw power from a holy symbol... specifically a medallion that represented their tribe. When Salthir became king of the Iksar empire Sebilis, he had the medallion broken into three pieces and hid them on the Kunark continent so that they would never be found. I'm searching for the pieces so that I can put it back together and learn more about this tribe. Perhaps you wish to help?'

You say, 'I will help you'

Xiblin Fizzlebik says 'All I know is that the pieces were most likely hidden in water regions. If you manage to find them, bring them to me and I will be able to put the medallion of the Jarsath back together. I am sure there is much to be learned from it.'

Remember that there are three separate medallions in the game, each broken into three pieces that just say a piece of broken medallion when you find it. You need to identify the piece of medallion you find to determine which one it is. These are the locations:

(1) Middle Portion: In Firiona Vie, an Iksar monk skeleton wanders around called "an ancient Jarsath". He's level 41 or 42. He drops the middle part of the medallion.

(2) Bottom Portion: This is located on the BloodGill Marauder, who guards the Entrance to Veksar at the bottom of the Lake of Ill Omen.

(3) Upper Portion: This is just laying around in the Swamp of No Hope at 52, 2935, -6. Stick close to the right wall from Cabilis or left from Firiona Vie and you should find it.

Give him all three pieces:

Xiblin Fizzlebik says 'Yes yes, now where is the rest of the medallion?'
Xiblin Fizzlebik says 'Yes yes, now where is the rest of the medallion?'
Xiblin Fizzlebik tinkers with the three pieces and snaps the pieces together. 'Wow.. You've done it.. but I suddenly feel very.. strange.. This medallion is cursed! Here, you take it!'
You gain experience!!

Which pieces specifically are you trying to turn in? Check both the item names and their lore tabs.

Is this on a normal server or a progression server?

It is possible to MQ pieces of the medallion (to make a whole one) and to MQ any of whole medallions with the tooth.

Yes it is possible to MQ pieces of the three medallions. Just make sure the last turn in piece is done by the toon you want to receive the piece. I did this with a necro for ancient jarsath. Turned in that piece and then the other two and received my medallion of the jarsath.

The npc is a gnome with a shovel who sits in the low lying ruins of the Chessboard island of Timorous Deep. Location is neg5778, pos2943.

If you are a darky it seems there is another npc on island that will be kos to you. A wizard npc that is part of ranger/druid epic and paths past the gnome frequently. Doesn't see invis however and wanders away from the gnome so you can usually hand in without aggro if you time it correctly.

I must be missing something here... why the hell does a level 40-something do this quest? The stuff in VP would crush a 40 toon under its pinky toe.

well, if you do the camps at a level that you get exp for them it makes the camps a little less of a time sink.

very good point. If your killing here anyhow for exp why not loot what you find. Especially if it is gonna come in handy for you later.

From end of the evil dock of bloated belly, head directly south, and you'll run right into the island. He is a gnome sitting in the ruins

Druid or wizard evac in this zone drops you on chessboard island. The easiest thing to do is bring a druid or wizard friend and have them use lessor succor/evac. If you don't have one available, follow the directions above.

Not trying to mess with anyone but I soloed the maurader at 38, and he is 40th. Did the AJ at 41st solo. Ok ok some will say BS haha believe what you will it can be done. The Aj is the toughie he hits very hard and is resisting abit, but for a drood or shammy not that hard. I am a shammy BTW and he was fairly easy at 41,if you play your class well. The muarader is hard cuase you have to do something about the 2 gills in his way not to mention the 2 others, now clear the front 2 or pull them all. I pulled them all by rooting one, that left 3 gills abd the maurader. Get them to shore and root the other 3 then take the maurder far away as to not agro the others that are rooted, then work on the maurader. I had my pet planted far away and brought the maurader to it slowed him then kited while my pet bite him as he was pissed at me. Then when the pet draws agro dot him. then go to swamp of no hope to loc pos52 by pos2935. Sorry for taking so much space, just wanted to post something usefull GL to ya!

I got this item yesterday with the help of a 48 enchanter and myself a 48 cleric. I just cast sense the dead on the way to and from deadlands and when he showed we took him. Took two turning of the unatural and not sure how many banish undead but seemed a little tough for a blue con. The biggest problem was the roaming drolvargs that seemed to continuously jump in due to the named mobs location. When all said and done I believe we just left the area (sow enhanced) with 6 drolvargs still mezzed. I recommend to try to get this piece while camping the giants just keep checking for him with sense the dead.

Does anyone know what the spawn time is for the Ancient Jasarth? The Bestiary page only said it is possibly a rare spawn but gives no estimated spawn time nor does it state if there are PH's or not for this mob.

re: Ancient Jasarth's spawn etc.

I've noticed that AJ is usually up and wandering (or standing in one spot after he makes his rounds) at in-game NIGHT TIME.

I had to get four pieces for various chars, and found him twice the first time with it being night; and I just got him twice again earlier today and it was night as well.

Killing random mobs doesnt seem to have any connection to him popping because I was quadding dogs and killing spiders and everything in the general area where he has been reported to spawn (near the Drolvarg underground on eastern side of zone) and he never popped those times.

I just found the Ancient Jarsath wandering around FV just west and down the hill from the Drolvarg cave entry and it was around 3pm in the game day. So the night-time myth is not true.

I killed 2 spiders (1 male and 1 female) along the way from the west to the east side and the AJ was right there as I got to near the Drolvarg cave.

I had tried camping the FV zone at night 3 times at night and never got it to pop. So the AJ may be triggered by spiders but that may have been coincidence.

# Apr 26 2001 at 4:43 PM Rating: Default
I found the iksar wandering by the drolvarg camp in FV. The piece in the swamp must be on a timer of 4-8 hours or so - if its not there, bind and check after a few hours - it will pop. Best time is in the morning when nobody is on.
Bloodgill is right at the entrance and is also on a timer of sorts - I just bound on the shore and popped in every once in a while.

The Ancient Jarsath drops the middle portion. When he pops, be ready with a decent group of 6 in the 45-50 range, even though he cons yellow to a level 40. Hit him with everything and fifteen minutes later you can have the piece. Check out the Firiona Vie zone bestiary for more info on this freak.

I am way too young to have any use for this very small part of a very long quest.

/em tosses the piece of a medallion in a jar of marbles, coins and other junk leftover from emptying his pocket.

The Bestiary for Firiona Vie on the Ancient Jarsath is very informative. The key that results from getting all of the complete medallions must be very valuable. Are we sure that it admits only the holder?

RE:

Aye this quest isnt rated from poor to excellent. Its only to get you into Veeshan's Peak and that is it. A very dangerous and hard dungeon to be sure. With all the warnings that Varant gives about it. No GM will step foot there. I would love to see it one day..maybe with about 6 groups of lvls 58 to 60.

# Sep 05 2000 at 3:15 PM Rating: Default
I checked at the location specified on numerous occasions, and have not found the piece. Is it possible that it is a random or rare drop?
RE: the upper portion
# Sep 05 2000 at 5:17 PM Rating: Default
It is a rare drop. I sat and fished there for 2 hours. I was getting ready to leave because I ran out of bait when something swam up to shore. When I went in the water the thing was gone. When I left the water there was the upper portion. I'm a level 41 druid on EMarr server and I am getting a little head star to veeshan's peak. Mogge Treestump
