Notice: Cultural tradeskills were recently given a major overhaul. Much of this information may be outdated.

We would like to have this guide on the wiki. The wiki article about Dragons of Norrath Cultural Armor can be found here. If you have any information to contribute, you can do so directly if you desire.

This is an overview of how Cultural Armor quests in Dragons of Norrath work. For more detailed information related to individual races, use the quest links on the lefthand side of this writeup.

This cultural armor works in tiers (note the indicated levels are requirements for getting the tasks from quest NPCs; you can make the low-stat armor at earlier levels, but not the augmentations):

First Tier: Simple
-Tradeskill components obtainable at 30th level.

Second Tier: Ornate
-Tradeskill components obtainable at 40th level.

Third Tier: Intricate
-Tradeskill components obtainable at 60th level.

Fourth Tier: Elaborate
-Tradeskill components obtainable earlier than 70th level, but you won't be able to get the task for the required book until then.

There are plate, chain, leather, and silk armor combines. Plate and chain is done through smithing in cultural forges. Leather and silk is done through tailoring in cultural sewing kits.

Note that mold and pattern combines produce an eight-slot backpack full with the following items:
20x Chest Slot
20x Legs Slot
20x Arms Slot
20x Head Slot
20x Hands Slot
20x Feet Slot
40x Wrist Slot

Obtain Armor Books

See the "Tradeskill Quests" NPC in your home city. Perform tasks to obtain an Ancestral Armor Book, Simple Book, Ornate Book, Intricate Book, and Elaborate Book.

..........................................................................................................................

Smithing Recipes:

MOLDS = Ancestral Armor Book + High Quality Firing Sheet + Huge Block of Clay + Compacted Backpack + Sculpting Tools

BARS = Cultural Metal + Item Drop + Cultural Hammer

SHEETS = Cultural Hammer + Water Flask + (Tier's) Bar (made in the above combine)

ARMOR PRODUCTION = Armor Mold + # (Tier's) Sheet(s)/Bar(s) + Large Brick of Cultural Metal + Cultural Hammer
**NOTE: # is 3 for Chest and Legs; 2 for Feet and Head; 1 for Arms, Hands, and Wrists
**NOTE: Chain combines use BARS; Plate combines use SHEETS

This produces armor with minor stats and augmentation slots 7, 11, 12.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Tailoring Recipes:

NEEDLE = Embroidering Needle + Cultural Brewing Essence

SEWING KIT = Water Flask + Needle Mold + Thimble Mold + Small Brick of Cultural Metal
**NOTE: Just to make things a little more complicated, Wood Elves and Halflings use bits instead of a small brick.

PATTERNS = Ancestral Armor Book + Roll of Plain Parchment + Large Bottle of Ink + Compacted Backpack + A Quill

SWATCHES = Cultural Spool of Thread + Cultural Needle + Culture-Specific Silk Swatch or Dropped Hide/Pelt

ARMOR PRODUCTION = Armor Pattern + # (Tier's) Swatch(es) (produced in the above combine) + Large Spool of Cultural Thread + Cultural Needle
** NOTE: # is 3 for Chest and Legs; 2 for Feet and Head; 1 for Arms, Hands, and Wrists

This produces armor with minor stats and augmentation slots 7, 11, 12.

You know all this is fine but NO one has listed any stats on this armor. Why should I even consern myself with some long length quest that I can't find stats to what I'll get in the end?

Are the recipes available through an in game NPC ?

I'm an Ogre warrior. I've done the experts pattern books both for the armor and the symbols. I got my bags of armor mold and symbols patterns. But the books don't say any more. My question is where did these recipes came from ? And can they be found in game ?
Bug or bad luck?
# Apr 29 2005 at 6:27 PM Rating: Decent
Did the first quest in Sol A (Dark Elf). Got the message that my quest for Sol A has been updated, assuming I can now kill the other mobs. Had to camp and server was patched. Zoned into Sol A, no message when I killed the mobs.

Any ideas or am I screwed?

Thanks!

Did you turn in the drops from your first set of kills back to the quest npc? your quest is normally kill a set amount of mobs and collect an item. Bring back like 4 of the item and then he tells you to go kill some more and bring back maybe 1 item.

It seems that the recipe on EQ Traders is correct. The dropped component needed to make these bars is not a Finely Crafted Targ Shield, but rather a Loose Scale, dropped by a young scaled wolf in East Cabilis.

This was confirmed tonight. Also sending in pics.

Why not make sure the dark elves need Crushbone orc bits too while you're at it, makes just as much sense huh? *****... ruining faction for this.... stunned and retarded.
At least put racnars on a faction no one gives a crap about, or better yet no bloody faction at all. Idiots.

Thanks for changing the drop, devs.
What kind of Tunare ranger would ***** CoV faction? Not this one, that's for darn sure.

Unlike Sir Lucan of Freeport, where you go instant KOS, you can kill a lot of CoV non-named without ruining your faction. Also most non-named are on the faction but give no faction hits. For example, the wyverns in CS and drakes. Or wyverns in Western Wastes. In the even you take hits, just go to great divide and kill the wolves by the scores for a day. The frost giants there are also good for factioning. Just click on the faction to the left of the quest that talks of faction to see a list of things you can do to improve faction. Killing greenies might be boring, but it is usually the quickest way to repair faction. Unless you are doing CoV based quests, anything better than KOS works too.

# Apr 05 2005 at 12:45 PM Rating: Decent
I just finished the Journeyman's Book of Vah Shir culture with my beastlord at level 17 (actually, started it at level 15 and picked up a task from a taskmaster for Palludal as well, both of which took me to 17 and 77% into level, give or take 5 or 6 deaths).

The items created at Journeyman's level are required level 15, rec 20, so it makes sence.

Directions to the Wood Elf Cultural Forge:

1)Find the newbie lift (lift closest to the druid circle/PoK book).

2)Go into the city via this lift.

3)When you get to the top of the lift look around the platform, there is a ramp heading up to the next level of town. Take it.

4)When you get to the top, you will see a forge, this is not the Wood Elf cultural forge. Look for another ramp up. When you find it, go up it.

5)At the top of this ramp is another forge. This IS the wood elf cultural forge.

I am a wood elf seeking the cultural forge in Kelethin. Is this any different from an ordinary forge? What makes it special? Please define a cultural forge.

I see that no one has answered this question above.

A cultural forge is a different forge altogether. It has a different set of combines it allows from a regular forge, but you have to be of that race in order to use it.

For the woodelf cultural forge, go to the platform in kelethin with the normal forge, and then go up one further level.

Happy smithing :)

ok i have been makeing the de armor for skill ups great way to do it. but every time i make the bag of patters i get yellow text that basicly says you see this book will not last for ever.

my question is how long will it last and do the jurrnymen, expert, master and gm books have the smae thing. also once the book or books are gone how do you get new ones.

I have my cultural needle and my new cultural sewing kit (this is the sewing kit I made two days ago from above combine), I have made the swatches, and purchase the large spool of cultural thread, I put all these items into the sewing kit along with a cultural pattern and hit Combine, I get this message: "you can not combine those items in this container" or something close to that what am I doing wrong?

Slot 12 upgrades?
# Mar 14 2005 at 3:19 PM Rating: Default
I've noticed that the symbols we make all have the "Can be used in Trade-skills(whatever)" line on them.....can these symbols be upgraded to Slot 12 symbols? Or can lower tier symbols be upgraded to higher tier ones? Ex: JM symbols+(other ingredients)=Expert symbols.....just a thought.

the item says it can be used in tradeskills because you combine it with armor
Request Help with Swatches
# Mar 11 2005 at 10:07 PM Rating: Decent
I am a wood elf and have been trying to make a "swatch".

1. I've made the Fier'dal Needle (used 'Essence of Sunlight' + 'Embroidering Needle' in the forge in Guild Hall. Trivial 132)

2. I've made the Fier'dal Sewing Kit (used 'Needle Mold', 'Thimble Mold', 'Water Flask' plus 'Mithril Bits' {one 'Morning Dew' plus two 'Small Pieces of Mithril'} in the Fier'dal Forge in Kelethin. Trivial 63)

Here's the problem:
I'm trying to make the Swatch using the recipe listed above

Quote:
SWATCHES = Cultural Spool of Thread + Cultural Needle + Culture-Specific Silk Swatch or Dropped Hide/Pelt

I have tried combining a 'Small Spool of Mithril Thread' plus 'Fier'dal Needle' plus 'Coarse Silk Swatch in both the new 'Fier'dal Sewing Kit' and the 'Fier'dal Forge.' DNC.

I have tried using a 'Large Spool of Mithril Thread' and a 'Reel of Mithril Thread' (as a replacement to the 'Small Spool of Mithril Thread') and, still, DNC.

What am I doing wrong? ... or is the recipe ONLY valid for Glossy Drake Hides and NOT the Coarse Silk Swatch?

Thanks!
Tyleza

Here's the deal, if you haven't figured it out or read it yet, you must make a new Sewing Kit, your old cultural one is no longer useable for anything other than regular combines, destroy it or just make another and you should have no problems, I had the same issue with halfling cultural (Leatherfoot Haversacks). Good luck hope it works out for U. Moe
RE: Request Help with Swatches
# Mar 11 2005 at 10:16 PM Rating: Decent
Update.... I was able to make Grandmasters Brambleborn Swatch using:
one Glossy Drake Hide
one Small Spool of Mithril Thread
one Fier'dal Needle

in the new Fier'dal Sewing Kit. Trivial is 242.

I'm thinking the recipe is invalid for Coarse Silk Swatch.
RE: Request Help with Swatches
# Mar 13 2005 at 8:18 AM Rating: Decent
yea bt what does this make armor wise, drake hide should be leather armor, might change the aug stats when you make an aug but making armor might be invalid for class race when making armor. just a thought.
RE: Request Help with Swatches
# Mar 13 2005 at 11:52 AM Rating: Decent
There are no silk wearing Wood Elf classes. Thus, trying to make a cultural silk swatch is invalid. I don't know what happens if you try to use that silk swatch to make a symbol.

thanks for the help
