Notice: Cultural tradeskills were recently given a major overhaul. Much of this information may be outdated.

We would like to have this guide on the wiki. The wiki article about Dragons of Norrath Cultural Armor can be found here. If you have any information to contribute, you can do so directly if you desire.

This is an overview of how Cultural Armor quests in Dragons of Norrath work. For more detailed information related to individual races, use the quest links on the lefthand side of this writeup.

This cultural armor works in tiers (note the indicated levels are requirements for getting the tasks from quest NPCs; you can make the low-stat armor at earlier levels, but not the augmentations):

First Tier: Simple
-Tradeskill components obtainable at 30th level.

Second Tier: Ornate
-Tradeskill components obtainable at 40th level.

Third Tier: Intricate
-Tradeskill components obtainable at 60th level.

Fourth Tier: Elaborate
-Tradeskill components obtainable earlier than 70th level, but you won't be able to get the task for the required book until then.

There are plate, chain, leather, and silk armor combines. Plate and chain is done through smithing in cultural forges. Leather and silk is done through tailoring in cultural sewing kits.

Note that mold and pattern combines produce an eight-slot backpack full with the following items:
20x Chest Slot
20x Legs Slot
20x Arms Slot
20x Head Slot
20x Hands Slot
20x Feet Slot
40x Wrist Slot

Obtain Armor Books

See the "Tradeskill Quests" NPC in your home city. Perform tasks to obtain an Ancestral Armor Book, Simple Book, Ornate Book, Intricate Book, and Elaborate Book.

..........................................................................................................................

Smithing Recipes:

MOLDS = Ancestral Armor Book + High Quality Firing Sheet + Huge Block of Clay + Compacted Backpack + Sculpting Tools

BARS = Cultural Metal + Item Drop + Cultural Hammer

SHEETS = Cultural Hammer + Water Flask + (Tier's) Bar (made in the above combine)

ARMOR PRODUCTION = Armor Mold + # (Tier's) Sheet(s)/Bar(s) + Large Brick of Cultural Metal + Cultural Hammer
**NOTE: # is 3 for Chest and Legs; 2 for Feet and Head; 1 for Arms, Hands, and Wrists
**NOTE: Chain combines use BARS; Plate combines use SHEETS

This produces armor with minor stats and augmentation slots 7, 11, 12.

Help. I'm have my "Journeyman's Cultural Armor Book" and now am working on the "Expert's Book". I killed the 50 Gnome Miners and looted 10 Gnome Meat (I read that the gnome meat requirement have been reduced from 20 to 10). I tried giving the meat to Dosan Vis'Moor as directed, but nothing happened. Since only 4 items can be given to NPC at anyone time, I gave "4", "4", and 2 (3 gives). Didn't work. I spend 2 more hours back in Solusek to get 10 more gnome meats and can't figure out how to give them to him. I hailed him hoping that would work, but it didn't. Any suggestions -- what am I doing wrong? Is this quest broken"?

I need help. I've played RPG's all my life but this is totally different. Maybe I'm dumb, but I don't understand Trade Skills. I want to make my own armor and augs, but what's trivials? Is that the skill lvl you need or what? If someone could explain the basics I'd highly appreciate it. Once I know what this stuff means I'll figure it out.

RE: Cultural Armor
# Dec 28 2005 at 9:47 PM Rating: Decent
Yeah actually... I recently researched and equipped a human cultural charm. You combine the expert charm pattern along with a small block of magic clay(enchanter made) and a water flask in a pottery wheel to make an unfired expert charm (Trivial is 111). The expert level human charm () was made by combining the 3 human cultural expert components: Expert's Bar of Claviger Steel, Experts Sagacious Swatch, and Experts Stargazer Swatch with 3 unstacked Unfired Expert Charm and a Symbol of Derived Diversity (PoK bought component)in a Kiln to produce Expert's Charm of Derived Diversity (Trivial 222)... so far that seems to be the only way to make them is in 3's.

Help!
# Aug 31 2005 at 5:30 PM Rating: Decent
I combined the necessary material instructed in my "ancestral book" (the first book before the Journeyman's book) and I got molds. What do I do with them and why would a human druid such as I have them? Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.
RE: Help!
# Sep 08 2005 at 4:21 PM Rating: Decent
Molds are used for metal armor. Human druids wear Journeyman's Sagacious armor which is tailored. Read your ancestral book again, there should be a recipe for patterns which calls for a large bottle of ink, parchment, a bookbinder, a quil and maybe something else...they use the patterns to make your armor using a loom. Good luck

There are two sets of books on how to use the the cultural armor books, (Cultural Symbol patterns and Cultural Armor patterns). The set of five books for forging the culutural plate and chain are obtained from Kaleras Darkanvil (smithing merchant) in PoK, the set is called A resurgance of History. The books sell for a copper each. The set of three books for tailoring the cultural armor are sold by Sherin Matrick (tailoring merchant)in PoK, the set is called Culturally Inspired Armor.
Complete Walkthrough

Okies you guys, for all my fellow dwarfs I will tell you guys how to make this stuff.

First off in order to even hope to begin you need a Zombie skin, garve mold, rotting orc tooth, crushbone battlebeads. You go to kaladim and hand them in. YAR then gives you a BOOK named Acestrial Armor. KEEP IT!!

Then take this Book, High quality Firing sheet,Huge block of clay, Compacted Backpack,And the Sculpting tools to the Kiln/Pottery Wheel that is behind Dooni!! the same chick u buy some of the above items from....

Once you combine this you'll get a backpack full of molds 20 each 40 of the wrists.

Now to take the molda and make the armor!!

Now the first thing you need to do in order to make the armor is to make the bars. In order to make the bars you get the following and combine them in the dwarf cultural forge. they are :

Small Block Of Brellium,Metallic Drake Scales,Dwarven Smithy Hammer and take these and combine them in the Dwarf cutural forge. NOW THE CULTURAL FORGE for us DWARFS is in KALADIM right beside the lil POOL in front of the taskgivers building/is kinda right across from the arena and you'll see 2 forges. THE RIGHT FORGE is the CULTURAL FORGE.

Now that you have created your bars, now you have to turn those into the sheets. You do that by combining the following in the same forge. those are:
Dwarven Smithy Hammer/water flask/and one the BARS u just made.

Congratz you now have your sheets!!!!

Last and final step to make your armor. In that same forge, combine the following:

3 Sheets , Breastplate mold, Large brick of Brellium, Dwarven Smithy Hammer. If your lucky and your skill is high enough you will make the 99ac breastplate. Hope this walkthrough helps you guys out and makes it easier to understand the combines.

just an FYI.........Leggings require another 3 sheets and the head/wrists/hands require needs 1 sheet. ALSO a TIP grab about 20 DRAKE scales ,,,,,,as if your not round 300 even with blacksmithing mastery you'll more n likely fail a few times.

You can do them in what ever order you want.
The first book is for the armor.
The rest are for the Augs.
If you do not want to make expert augs, skip the book.

Shar Vahl Cultural Forge?
# Aug 09 2005 at 2:27 PM Rating: Default
I have been to EQ traders and searched Shar Vahl for a couple of hours actually.
There are three forges in the city that I could find.
According to EQtraders, the forge in the building with "Breakman?"<SP?>, the NPC that gives you the smithing quest is the cultural forge.
However, my lvl 67 Warrior keeps getting the message that the objects he wants to combine for the Shar Vahl Sewing Kit cannot be combined in that forge.
He was able to successfully combine Vah Shiir sewing needles in the forges near Hollowshade Moor zone.

Is the cultural forge in Shar Vahl bugged?
I did a petition and bug report on it, in the hopes that a GM will respond with something remotely helpful to the situation but am not holding my breath on it. So I am asking here.
Anyone else had these problems?

NM, Found it!
Loc is Pos175, Neg204,
GM Task attainable at 68
# Jul 28 2005 at 6:28 PM Rating: Decent
I was able to get the GM halfling task in Rivervale at lvl 68. This contradicts the sentence "Tradeskill components obtainable earlier than 70th level, but you won't be able to get the task for the required book until then.", on the overview. off to stillmoon I go!

I wish I could remember exactly where, but I guarantee you the Half Elf forge is in Freeport. I'll update this if I go there again soon. I'm thinking back to maybe East FP when I used it, but not sure. I do remember making my combines near the bank in North FP though.

DoN Cultural GM and Master Gear
# Jun 29 2005 at 12:37 PM Rating: Default
The Don Armor is an awesome idea. Being able to create and own such items without being in a raid guild evens the field considerably. I do have a concern though. The effects of the GM and Master gear include Mana Regen no matter your class... that isnt very helpful for classes that dont use mana. Makes paying the extra coin due to the effect rather extreme considering most go for 50k (rare finds) to generally 100k to above 200k due to the lack of a component (Crushed Diamond Dust for Master gear is nearly rare / ultra-rare. Note the lack of Master level armors available) and Glossy / Metallic Drake drops (uncommon - seems almost common). Why the difficulty ? I'd presume to force tradeskillers into DoN adventures. Practicing skills on 386 Trivial combines with skills of 265 (around that) seems to carry a stiff penalty and extremely limited chance to skillup .. so 99% of the combines are pretty much guarenteed to fail. I dont understand the reasoning for severely limiting key items needed for Master level combines. This is a HUGE gap.. and all but cuts out DoN gear for levels 45 thru 65, unless they opt to keep gear designed for < level 45 players. Yes, the GM Symbols can be used in Expert level armor. There's a combo im sure everyone wouild be proud to show off.. to newb's. Unfortunately, this leaves the developers looking rather "tight" with an appearance of "baiting" players to spend countless, unproductive hours farming greens and low blues, with not the chance to get experience so much as the near guarentee of losing experience thru death's while doing so. I am hoping that there is the chance that this was an unfortunate oversight, but after over 6 years playing.. i fear this assumption isnt based on reality.
