Find Bill Whistletop at location -283 -123 -17.50 (one of the smithing buildings).

You say, 'Hail, Bill Whistletop'

Bill Whistletop says 'Hi-oh there, _____. You startled me. I'm busy compiling notes for my compendium; it'll be a complete [history] or Rivervale for an entire century. Imagine that!'

You say, 'What history?'

Bill Whistletop says 'Well, it's not really a history book, not exactly. It's more like I just sit around and write about whatever's [going on] in Rivervale at the moment. I've been doing this for thirty seven years now, so, um, hey, I'm almost half done!'

You say, 'So, what has been going on?'

Bill Whistletop says 'Yeah, I write down everything: fishing trips, crop yields, new card games I pick up. Hmm, I guess it's more of a journal then a history book. . . Oh well, it's still chalk full of historical [significance].'

You say, 'What kind of significance?'

Bill Whistletop says 'Heck yes, I write down everything so some of it has got to be important. For example, I copied down all those [armor patterns] and [cultural symbol patterns] that were displayed during that spring festival eleven years ago. You know the one where we had that competition to see who could make the best suit of armor! Boy, that was a great festival. The apple tarts were amazing. I'm glad I wrote down the recipe for those too!'

You say, 'What armor patterns?'

Bill Whistletop says 'Oh, you're interested in the armor, huh? I guess you do look like the adventuring sort. Well, heck, I can make you an armor pattern book if you want? I have all the designs written down and recorded somewhere in one of my journals; all I'll need is the materials for the pattern book itself. Just bring me a cat skull cap for the cover, a fractured femur for the spine, a minotaur horn for the clasp, and a bunch of optic nerves to grind down and make a salve, which will protect and preserve the finished product. I hear these items can be found in the Runnyeye Goblin territory and the Beholder's Maze, but I'm not really sure? Anyway, once I have those, I can make you a pattern book. Hey, then we can go fishing!'

Obtain your Ancestral Book: Turn in a cat skull cap, fractured femur, a minotaur horn, and a bunch of optic nerves.

Bill Whistletop says 'Oh, hey there, Dryssa. I'm still working on my history book. In fact, I just wrote down the part where we first met. Here let me read it for you!' Bill clears his throat, 'Ahem, so I was writing my history book when Dryssa comes up to me and says 'Hail.' And so I reply. . .' Bill continues to ramble on for many minutes. Finally, he gets to the end of his journal and looks up. He blinks as though surprised that you are still here. 'Oh, yeah, the armor pattern book. Sorry, I forgot about that. Here you go!'

Receive Ancestral Halfling Armor Book.

You say, 'What cultural symbol patterns?'

Bill Whistletop says 'You're interested in the cultural symbol patterns I see. I can give you a book of cultural symbol patterns but I will need you to run a few tasks for me before I can give them to you. What do you say; would you like to run a few short [tasks] for me?'

You say, 'I will do your tasks.'

Bill Whistletop says 'I have four tasks that need to be completed. The first is an adventure into [Beholder's Maze] where you will clear a path for young Halflings so they can make a safe passage through the maze to East Karana. The next you will be tasked with venturing into the heart of [the Hole] where you hunt for some ingredients for my drip clock. The third task leads you into [Karnor's Castle] where you will collect bone specimen for my collection. The final task you will adventure into [Stillmoon temple] and learn about the creatures that inhabit the area.'

You say, 'I will go to the Beholder's Maze.'

Task given to get your Journeyman's Book:
You have been assigned the task 'Storming the Maze'.
1) Kill 10 Minotaurs
2) Loot four Minotaur Axes
3) Return four Axes
4) Explore the ruins
5) Kill 10 Evil Eyes
6) Loot one Polished Bone Bracelet
Receive Journeyman's Book.

Completion text: I'm glad to see you have made it back. Surely you have some proof of these HUGE eyes now that you mention! With the bracelet I will say that you have earned these cultural symbol patterns.

Task given to get your Expert's Book:
1) Kill 50 Elemental Warriors in The Hole
2) Collect 10 Drops of Mercury
3) Return to Bill Whistletop and give him four Drops of Mercury
4) Kill five Elemental Monstrosities
5) Collect one Drop of Mercury
6) Return to Bill Whistletop and give him the Mercury
Receive Expert's Book.

Task given to get your Master's Book:
1) Kill 80 Decayed Soldiers in Karnor's Castle
2) Collect 40 Bone Chips from the soldiers
3) Return to Bill Whistletop and give him four Bone Chips
4) Kill five Spectral Knights in Karnor's Castle
5) Collect one Bone Chip
6) Return the Bone Chip to Bill Whistletop
Receive Master's Book.

Task given to get your Grandmaster's Book: Creatures of the Temple

2) Loot 80 Fractured Drake Claws
3) Deliver four Claws to Bill Whistletop
4) Kill 10 10 Stillmoon stone drakes

Femur! which Femur?
# Mar 16 2005 at 6:46 PM Rating: Default
A EQ Developer Oshran on the EQLive site, has apologised that he flagged the wrong femur for the quest.

So far it's been wrong on release, corrected, then accidentally broken again, the re-fix missed the 16-03-05 patch and is currently awaiting re-patching.

It's Bristlebane's influence I tell you.

I've still had no luck with turn-in to Whistletop lol I have all the right items lol i even tried turning them in, in different order still nothing, still the same message saying I have to turn in items at once in order to complete quest. Has anybody else still haveing the same problem?
RE: Turn In

Ok I finally got this done last night

It is NOT Thipt's Fractured Femur. You need the Fractured Femur from the Quest in Tox Forest. Mining Caps or ...

Closer examination of the loot from A Pickclaw Bonemender and A Goblin Captain shows that they can both drop the Fractured Femur. This one is tradeable, ie not NO DROP. I do not recall if that info was there before but I don't think it was.

Thipit's Femur is the wrong one. Got my book last night after getting a Femur from the skeletons in Tox via quest. So you can get the drop in Runnyeye, just watch what you loot.

Please update the quest info above: "Obtain your Ancestral Book: Turn in a cat skull cap, fractured femur, a minotaur horn, and a bunch of optic nerves" Indicate the tradeable Femur please. Also the Requred Items lists the Thipit's Femur in error.

I'm also not able to do the hand in. I offer the cap, minotaur horn, optic nerves & fractured femur and get a "you must turn all items in at once" error message. Anyone have any idea what's gone wrong?

Hail the NPC and look at the items on the quest. It has changed slightly and now requires slightly modified hand-ins.

what am i doing wrong?
# Mar 03 2005 at 5:11 PM Rating: Decent
ive been trying to start this quest since DoN came out and Bill still wont take the items for the ancestoral book. i logged on yesterday and tried to give him the bundle of optic nerves, cat skull cap, fractured femur, and bead necklace and he wouldnt take them. i hailded him and went through the dialogue and noticed they changed it a little. i went and got a mino horn and tried the hand in again but he still wouldnt take it. i thought possably the items i previously tried handing had been tainted from when the quest was broken so i deleted all the items, and went out and got them all again. i come back and the little **** still wont accept them. anyone know what i might be doing wrong?

Grretings

Up to the fourth part of this quest, killed a lot of Stillmoon drakes, but nary a fractured drake claw has dropped, can anyone confirm the claws drop from Drakes, or am I killing the wrong mobs?

Thanks much

Last task is called Creatures of the Temple

Kill 120 Stillmoon Creatures
Recover 80 Fractured Drake Claws
Give Bill 4 claws
Kill 10 Stillmoon Stone casters
Recover one Razor Sharp Drake Claw from a Stillmoon Stone Caster
***
Assuming the last step is give the claw to Bill but havent completed the caster step yet. Will post that and end text if someone hasnt by then.

*edit* Found and killed Stillmoon stonecasters (one word) but it didn't count towards the task. Went to every DoN zone with drakes and found no other Stillmoon stone casters. Not sure if the task is bugged or if there is some rare spawn I'm not aware of.

now that the non-instance zones are not giving credit for the items, what instances ARE giving credit for the Fractured Drake Claws and Razor Sharp Drake Claw?
RE: GM book
# Aug 12 2005 at 11:45 AM Rating: Decent
I have 85 or so of the kills recorded but have yet to see a claw. Do I have to be the one to loot it or can the ML in the group be the one? I honestly was pulling for the group where I got most of the kills and may have missed something being looted. Has anyone had any luck with claws dropping from a creator mission?

Creator mission is not in stillmoon temple and there the drops which do come from the drakes there occasionaly do not count. Only missions in stillmoon temple drops count towards the task.

same thing here .. the stillmoon stonecaster don't count
RE: GM book
# Mar 13 2005 at 4:45 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, finished the last task...Stillmoon stone casters are a seperate mob from stonecasters. Did find one in the normal zone of Stillmoon but had better luck in instanced zones, such as the Animated Statue Plans mission, and the Sickness of the Spirit mission.

"You have learned a great deal about the Stillmoon temple drakes. Your discoveries will benefit all halflings. As promised, here are the final symbol patterns as your reward."

the Vale Sewing Kit is made in the Vale Forge( the one by the water to the left of the bank) Use HQ metal bits. I had to make a new one after the DoN exp. (old one wouldn't work anymore) went live so I know this still works.

Still does nto work

Put in blessed water, aug pattern, and a silk swatch........wont combine
RE: Vale Sewing kit (DoN)
# Mar 01 2005 at 4:47 PM Rating: Decent
I could be wrong, but I believe there are two different Vale Sewing Kits now: one for DoN cultural and one for everything else. There are two different recipes to make them. I'm having the same problem you guys are, DNC in whichever container I try to combine my water flask, thimble mold, needle mold and small brick of Mercurium. If anyone figures this out, please post here.

4) Search the Jail Area (just walk by the jail cells and you get a completed message)
5) Kill 5 Spectral Knights
6) collect 1 bone chip (it said something about a pristine bone chip fragment, but I looted a regular bone chip off a spectral knight and that worked)
7) return the bone chip to Bill Whistletop for the book

both pattern books are now possible... 1 thing remains, at least for halflings, where do we get "quill" from? Meeka Diggs has "a quill" which DNC, though "quill" was supposed to have been in her inventory at one time, I believe before they took the vale down for an hour to fix the pattern book quest.

<edit> I found a place to get the "quill" from today on a thread about Vah Shir cultural...went to Shar Val, and they are on tailoring vendors there for 0pp. Yay! now to start on recipies....*sigh*

Bead Neclace
# Feb 23 2005 at 5:05 AM Rating: Decent
Went to Blackburrow for bead neclace. Either no neclace is the right one, or it's a bug lol. I've hunted in both Runnyeye, and Beholders for hours no bead neclace drop I found.
Bead Necklace
# Feb 22 2005 at 7:02 PM Rating: Decent
Where did u get the Bead Necklace?? I have killed everything in Runnyeye & Beholders maze at least twice & never seen a single Bead Necklace drop. Supposedly, all the stuff for the first stage is done in either Runnyeye or Beholders maze. I too went to crushbone & got a bead necklace, but get the message that says "you must turn in all quest items at once in order to complete this quest".
Ancestral Book???
# Feb 22 2005 at 2:52 PM Rating: Decent
If anybody figures out the ancestral book post it lol. I've got my fractured femur, optic nerves, cat skull cap, and bead neclace, but when I hand them to Bill Whistletop all I get is a message saying "You must turn in all quest items at once in order to complete this quest" just for kicks I tried Warbeads, and Shattered beads and still get the same result.
RE: Ancestral Book???
# Feb 23 2005 at 7:54 AM Rating: Decent
Alright, did this quest 4 days ago with my Halfing Druid. the femur indeed is the problem. the femur that is flagged for the quest is the small quest in Toxx. the bead necklace is the same one that drops everywhere, I got mine in Paludal Caverns (I've been told that one drops in Beholder's maze, but is ultra rare, just go to PC). Other items are as stated.

See the link in post below for quest for femur.

From what I have heard the femur is the problem. There are 2 fractured femurs in game. The 1 from runnyeye and one that is a small quest in toxx. I havent tried femur from toxx yet but it may be the one needed. Devs probably flagged wrong one for quest so /bug it and try toxx femur, here is link to quest.
