Find Bill Whistletop at location -283 -123 -17.50 (one of the smithing buildings).

You say, 'Hail, Bill Whistletop'

Bill Whistletop says 'Hi-oh there, _____. You startled me. I'm busy compiling notes for my compendium; it'll be a complete [history] or Rivervale for an entire century. Imagine that!'

You say, 'What history?'

Bill Whistletop says 'Well, it's not really a history book, not exactly. It's more like I just sit around and write about whatever's [going on] in Rivervale at the moment. I've been doing this for thirty seven years now, so, um, hey, I'm almost half done!'

You say, 'So, what has been going on?'

Bill Whistletop says 'Yeah, I write down everything: fishing trips, crop yields, new card games I pick up. Hmm, I guess it's more of a journal then a history book. . . Oh well, it's still chalk full of historical [significance].'

You say, 'What kind of significance?'

Bill Whistletop says 'Heck yes, I write down everything so some of it has got to be important. For example, I copied down all those [armor patterns] and [cultural symbol patterns] that were displayed during that spring festival eleven years ago. You know the one where we had that competition to see who could make the best suit of armor! Boy, that was a great festival. The apple tarts were amazing. I'm glad I wrote down the recipe for those too!'

You say, 'What armor patterns?'

Bill Whistletop says 'Oh, you're interested in the armor, huh? I guess you do look like the adventuring sort. Well, heck, I can make you an armor pattern book if you want? I have all the designs written down and recorded somewhere in one of my journals; all I'll need is the materials for the pattern book itself. Just bring me a cat skull cap for the cover, a fractured femur for the spine, a minotaur horn for the clasp, and a bunch of optic nerves to grind down and make a salve, which will protect and preserve the finished product. I hear these items can be found in the Runnyeye Goblin territory and the Beholder's Maze, but I'm not really sure? Anyway, once I have those, I can make you a pattern book. Hey, then we can go fishing!'

Obtain your Ancestral Book: Turn in a cat skull cap, fractured femur, a minotaur horn, and a bunch of optic nerves.

Bill Whistletop says 'Oh, hey there, Dryssa. I'm still working on my history book. In fact, I just wrote down the part where we first met. Here let me read it for you!' Bill clears his throat, 'Ahem, so I was writing my history book when Dryssa comes up to me and says 'Hail.' And so I reply. . .' Bill continues to ramble on for many minutes. Finally, he gets to the end of his journal and looks up. He blinks as though surprised that you are still here. 'Oh, yeah, the armor pattern book. Sorry, I forgot about that. Here you go!'

Receive Ancestral Halfling Armor Book.

You say, 'What cultural symbol patterns?'

Bill Whistletop says 'You're interested in the cultural symbol patterns I see. I can give you a book of cultural symbol patterns but I will need you to run a few tasks for me before I can give them to you. What do you say; would you like to run a few short [tasks] for me?'

You say, 'I will do your tasks.'

Bill Whistletop says 'I have four tasks that need to be completed. The first is an adventure into [Beholder's Maze] where you will clear a path for young Halflings so they can make a safe passage through the maze to East Karana. The next you will be tasked with venturing into the heart of [the Hole] where you hunt for some ingredients for my drip clock. The third task leads you into [Karnor's Castle] where you will collect bone specimen for my collection. The final task you will adventure into [Stillmoon temple] and learn about the creatures that inhabit the area.'

You say, 'I will go to the Beholder's Maze.'

Task given to get your Journeyman's Book:
You have been assigned the task 'Storming the Maze'.
1) Kill 10 Minotaurs
2) Loot four Minotaur Axes
3) Return four Axes
4) Explore the ruins
5) Kill 10 Evil Eyes
6) Loot one Polished Bone Bracelet
Receive Journeyman's Book.

Completion text: I'm glad to see you have made it back. Surely you have some proof of these HUGE eyes now that you mention! With the bracelet I will say that you have earned these cultural symbol patterns.

Task given to get your Expert's Book:
1) Kill 50 Elemental Warriors in The Hole
2) Collect 10 Drops of Mercury
3) Return to Bill Whistletop and give him four Drops of Mercury
4) Kill five Elemental Monstrosities
5) Collect one Drop of Mercury
6) Return to Bill Whistletop and give him the Mercury
Receive Expert's Book.

Task given to get your Master's Book:
1) Kill 80 Decayed Soldiers in Karnor's Castle
2) Collect 40 Bone Chips from the soldiers
3) Return to Bill Whistletop and give him four Bone Chips
4) Kill five Spectral Knights in Karnor's Castle
5) Collect one Bone Chip
6) Return the Bone Chip to Bill Whistletop
Receive Master's Book.

Task given to get your Grandmaster's Book: Creatures of the Temple
1) Kill 120 Stillmoon Creatures
2) Loot 80 Fractured Drake Claws
3) Deliver four Claws to Bill Whistletop
4) Kill 10 10 Stillmoon stone drakes
5) Loot one Razor Sharp Drake Claw
6) Deliver Claw to Bill Whistletop
Receive Grandmaster's Book.

Fractured Drake Claw
# Dec 14 2008 at 10:59 AM Rating: Decent
Fractured Drake Claws dropped for me and updated my "Creatures of the Temple" quest while in the Stillmoon Instance: Scales of Justice. They were quite common in this instance. Anyway, I only needed a few to finish this part (quest has been sitting in que for a very long time). Might want to check out the other Stillmoon instances too, if not this one. Mobs that dropped the claws were: a Stillmoon granite keeper, a Stillmoon seer, a Stillmoon basalt mage, and a Stillmoon stone caster.
Best of luck.

Just helped a buddy of mine with the GM Halfling Book task. 2 mobs gave credit:

a Stillmoon stone wing.

a Stillmoon stonecaster.

Exactly as spelled here.

Stillmoon stone drakes
# Sep 02 2006 at 10:43 PM Rating: Decent
OK, I finally got my GM book of Hafling culture. I have looked and looked and looked for a mob called a stillmoon stone drake with no luck. Tonight I poked my head into the non-instanced version and set up at zi to ascent and started killing mobs, this is what I found. After being there foe some time, for fun I hit alt-q to take a look at my task and surprise!!! 4/10 stone drakes done! It seems it is any drake model mob with "stillmoon stone" for the first part of the name, I killed stone casters and got credit and also got credit on stillmoon stone wings. Seems to me there was another but it is not listed. Mobs were not very rare, no more so then Jorvash the usurper who popped 3 times while I was there. Once I knew I was not looking for "stone drake" by name it went rather fast, mobs CH themselves alot which slowed things down some, but easy once I figured out what I needed. Forget the instanced zones unless you got a group and want to I guess, non-instanced worked fine for me.

Any idea on level needed to do quest for Grandmaster's Book? 57 and no luck.

"You are not experianced enough to handle that task. Come back when you get a little older."

I realize that 57 is young for a hobbit, but jeez.

Is the PBB on trivial loot code or something? I've killed hundreds of evil eyes, including the named ones dozens of times, and still no PBB. Is there a better place to get them than the Gorge?

wht a mischevious rascal Bill Whistletop is! There is no doubt he is a follower of Bristlebane, I say this because he instructs you to goto the hole and kill elementals there, which no true servant of Brell would even dream of, for we know that they are the beautiful warriors of brell fresh from the plane of the underfoot, and Brell would not be happy if we were to kill them!

Maybe I can get some fool to kill these elemental beings for me, so I can get the credit in Bill Whistletop's eyes, but avoid any acknowledgement of involvement with brell?

OO: is it possible to get credit from the kills for this task when in group, without taking a faction hit if you do nothing to get any aggro? I rather like the fact that my little halfling has good faction with the minions of his deity.
Ancestral Book Consumed
# Aug 22 2005 at 8:40 AM Rating: Decent
Quoted from EQ Traders Corner (www.eqtraders.com):
Quote:
"Notes: The recipe for this item makes 20 of each mold (40 for wrists) for the appropriate race inside a backpack. The ancestral book ingredient will be consumed the 10th time it is used. (You can repeat the quest for another.)"

Mold for Halfling chestplates

How convenient. Every time I want to make some armor, I can just go start over completely from scratch.

Are they for real on this?

Stone Casters
# Aug 21 2005 at 3:23 PM Rating: Excellent
Yes there is a difference in Stoncaster vs Stone Caster.

I have been told that there are rarely Stone Caster mobs in regular zone, though I have never seen one myself.

You need to get one of the Stillmoon missions from DoN. Typicallly there are 1-5 per mission ( usually 2 - 3 on average )

Missions that have these mobs are gotten from the guy in Lavastorm that gives out the "Tracking the Kirin" mission.

You still will need about 3 - 4 missions here if you are lucky, more if you arent.

Good Luck

P.S. Tracking isnt always good enough to find them. I took a Rogue along with to SoS and find all that were in each mission, then took group to the kill.

Do you have to be on a DoN mission for the kills to count? If not, is there a difference between Stonecasters and Stone Casters?
Thanks for any help.
RE: Stillmoon Stone casters
# Aug 15 2005 at 12:25 PM Rating: Decent
I'm having trouble with this too. I've killed numerous Stonecaster drakes for no credit. I've tried several Stillmoon missions looking for Stone caster drakes and can't find any. I petitioned and got back a response that said, essentially, "you're an idiot--ask someone." So I'm asking as well. I've tried every combination I can think of to get credit for this part of the GM armor quest.
Spectral Knights
# Jul 28 2005 at 6:39 PM Rating: Decent
For spectral knights in KC, go to the room where Venril Sathir and VSR spawn. see #13 on the atlas. http://www.eqatlas.com/kunark/karnors1map.html

anything 'spectral' here is a PH for knights. There are some mobs in the various rooms that connect to #13.

When I went I only saw knights/protectors. Their respawn was fairly long, 20+ mins? I didn't stay around long enough to see them repop. I logged and just came back the next day.

I was able to kill 4 knights on my first trip and got my last kill on the second. Easy but getting there is a pain with all the see invis mobs on the way.
Warsliks Wood
# Jul 13 2005 at 3:49 PM Rating: Decent
For anyone (in my opinion) working on Journeyman armor and symbols. I would highly recommend hunting in Warsliks Wood for the Skulking Beasts also. They have dropped both Jade Shards and Ivory while I have been hunting them. They also provide good experience from 24-30 level.

Where's the book?
# Jun 14 2005 at 11:53 PM Rating: Decent
This happened on my expert book and wanted to see if anyone else has had this happen. I do final turn in and see text saying I recieved my book. I look in inventory and nothing. I submit a csr report and am told it is in slot so and so, I look there and see my journeymans book, not the expert book that I am looking for. Resubmit another csr and while looking through inventory again later that night, there it is!

I just did turn in for master's book and am in the same boat again. Only had one open inventory slot and nothing appeared there.

For my level 66 character..

Decayed soldiers are Level 45-50 and light blue. I'm killing in the dungeon (I was haging out at spot 3 here http://eqmaps.com/m3/karnorsbase.jpg There are no wanderers and the cells run to the south and east). The mobs drop fine steel, Book of Obulus, runes and words, dust of decay and bone chips

I found Gloves of Wrath for my berserker except he's only level 15 or so.

Gloves of Wrath
LORE ITEM MAGIC ITEM
Weight: 5.0 Size: SMALL
Slot: HANDS
AC: +25
Classes: Berserker
Races: Barbarian Troll Ogre Dwarf Vah Shir
Slot 1: Type 7
Required: Yes

Effect: Lesser Shielding
1: Increase Max Hitpoints by 20 (L8) to 30 (L18)
2: Increase AC by 6 (L8) to 9 (L18)
6: Increase Magic Resist by 7 (L8) to 10 (L20)

Type: Triggered
Charges: Unlimited
Level for Effect: 45

These undead give no faction hits and are arranged in rooms such that at the most you'll agro two at a time, one from each room on each side of you so if you can handle 2 of them it's a great place for undead killing. Decayed prisoners and Spectral Turnkeys spawn here too

I've gotten about 65 of the 80 I need so far. The spectral knights are 48-52 but they seem dark blue on track. I haven't killed any yet as i've not gotten to that part of the task and I'm not sure yet where they are.
Journeyman's Book
# Mar 27 2005 at 11:52 AM Rating: Decent
For the Journeyman's Book I only needed one Axe, not 4.

I did the whole Journeyman's Book quest without realizing it was a task. All my time was wasted.

Say the magic words and get the task going as a real task. It also nicely shows your progress with how many kills you've done

RE: Journeyman's Book
# Jun 24 2006 at 1:00 AM Rating: Decent
yeah, but what LEVEL do you have to be to get your experts pattern book? I had a level 1 who tailored up to 185 or so and I'm trying to raise his level to do the cultural stuff, but don't have high aims for GM or anything. What's the minimum level I can do the experts quest at, anyone know?
RE: Journeyman's Book
# Jun 15 2005 at 12:55 PM Rating: Decent
That is correct. Just started this and noticed only one axe needed from the Minotaurs.
Finally Fixed The Femur?

Hi All

As of Saturday 19th March SOE said it was fixed and the Runnyeye Femur is now flagged properly.

I completed the quest as published with a Runnyeye Fractured Femur on 22nd of March.

So it's fixed, for now Smiley: oyvey
