Phase One [brewing of the war (10-12 days)]
Phase Two [Firiona Vie outpost overtaken (4.5 hours)]
Phase Three [yet to be played out?]

****************************
PHASE ONE
****************************

A war is brewing in the Dreadlands between so-called "good" and "evil."

There are two sides to the war:
Lanys T`Vyl and Al`Kabor

Lanys T`Vyl

Lanys T`Vyl and army can be found near the tunnel leading to the portal valley. She and her cohorts are on Venril Sathir faction.

There are a number of quests and turn-ins you can do to gather various items.

Faction hits for these quests are what?

This is the starting text for the Exquisite Defiler's Ring. You need amiable faction standing or better.

You say, 'Hail, Lanys T`Vyl'

Lanys T`Vyl says 'I sense hate welling up within you. Harness it and use it to fuel the strength you need to destroy our [enemies].'

You say, 'What enemies?'

Lanys T`Vyl says 'In the valley before us, the pawns of Firiona wait to be slaughtered. Bring me a pair of their severed heads and you will be rewarded for your loyalty.'

More information, dialogues needed.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Al`Kabor

Amiable faction with Firiona Vie is required to do these turn-ins.

Firiona Vie, having escaped from the Tower of Frozen Shadow, is now in her self-titled city outpost.

You say, 'Hail, Firiona Vie'

Firiona Vie says 'Hail and well met, friend. It appears that you have arrived during dire times. Lanys T`Vyl, daughter of Innoruuk himself, has gotten wind of my escape from the Tower of Frozen Shadow and has come looking for a fight. My wounds have kept me from answering her call, but fortunately, Al`Kabor has assumed command of the armies of Firiona Vie to ensure the safety of the city. I encourage you to seek him out for he has need of every able bodied soldier he can find. May Tunare's blessing be upon you.'

Al`Kabor and company can be found outside the tunnel leading to Firiona Vie. He and his army are on Firiona Vie faction.

Upon talking to Al`Kabor in the Dreadlands:

You say, 'Hail, Al`Kabor'

Al`Kabor glares at you for a moment before speaking. 'I'm hoping those dents in your helm haven't dulled your wit too much. Well, at least you've seen battle. This lot's fought nothing but Drolvarg for years and I'm afraid they're not up for the kind of fight [Lanys] has in mind.'

You say, 'Who is Lanys?'

Al`Kabor says 'That witch caught the scent of Firiona, I'm sure of it, and means to finish what she started in Kithicor. Firiona is recovering in the city and is safe for the moment, but Lanys has arraigned the armies of Overthere against us and her [patrols] are canvassing the Dreadlands as we speak.'

You say, 'What patrols?'

Al`Kabor says 'That's where you come in. Put that brawn to use and bring me any scouting reports you find. I need to know how much they know about our defenses.'

Give Al'Kabor both halfs of a report:

Al`Kabor says 'I need the other half of this report for it to be useful.'
Al`Kabor says 'These accuracy of these reports is disturbing. Take these trinkets and leave me. I must study them.'
Your faction standing with Firiona Vie got better.
Your faction standing with Emerald Warriors got better.
Your faction standing with Storm Guard got better.
Your faction standing with Legion of Cabilis got worse.
Your faction standing with Pirates of Gunthak got worse.

Handing in the top and bottom halves of the Sebilisian Scout's Reports rewards you with the Simple Guardian's Earrng. Handing in the top and bottom halves of the Sebilisian Patrol's Report rewards you with the Ornate Guardian's Earring. Handing in the top and bottom halves of the Sebilisian Commander's Report rewards you with the Exquisite Guardian's Earring.

There are a number of other quests and turn-ins you can do to gather various items.

List of items which resulted from Phase One:

Dark Plated Scout's Armguards
Exquisite Defiler's Ring
Great Helm of Cunning
Mask of Defiant Rage
Necklace of Purest Vision
Ornate Guardian's Earring
Pauldrons of the Defiler
Simple Guardian's Earring

More information, dialogues needed.

PHASE TWO
****************************

On 02 February 2005, war broke out. Fighting went on for about four and a half hours (real time):

00:00 Lanys T'Vyl shouts, 'Dark Riders, step out from the nightmares of the world and show these pathetic worms true pain!'

00:00 The sky darkens as a pall falls over the land. Something evil has entered the world.

00:00 Al'Kabor shouts, 'Stalt, Aphasia, you have a task at hand. Lanys calls upon her darker minions and our armies cannot stand against their might alone. Get out there and put those beasts to rest before they tear our troops apart!'

The war is on..

00:44 Lanys T'Vyl shouts, 'My pet, you have waited in the wings long enough. The time has come for you to feast upon the fear of mortals once more. Step into this world and rend it apart!'

00:44 An unnatural roar echoes through the valley as the air around you grows thick with the scent of decay.

Several named mobs appear in the Dreadlands.. sides are chosen.. Some significant items are among the drops..

01:45 Al`Kabor shouts, 'Enough with your games, Lanys! It is time to finish this charade!'

01:45 Lanys T`Vyl shouts, 'Hasten to your death, fool. Your magic won't protect you any longer.'

01:52 Al`Kabor shouts, 'This day is not yet done, Lanys! You have grown strong in your exile, but even your might is not enough to breach the gates of Firiona Vie!'

01:52 Lanys T`Vyl shouts, 'Commanders, the time is upon us. That meddling fool has fled like the coward he is. Rally your forces and take the city!'

The Firiona Vie outpost is overtaken by evil forces.

04:38 Firiona Vie shouts, 'Fair citizens of Firiona Vie, be strong in this dire time. The city may be lost but we must preserve what we have left. We will regroup, gather our strength, and one day we will reclaim our fair city!'

04:38 Al`Kabor shouts, 'Fool! The only thing you are going to accomplish is getting your own skull split! Your duty is to Firiona. Don't let your pride get in the way of that. We've done what we can for these people, but now we must depart this doomed city before we are doomed ourselves.'

04:38 Lanys T`Vyl shouts, 'Don't think you can escape my wrath so easily, Firiona. You can not hide from me. No matter where you go, I am not far behind and on the day you fall, it will be me looking down upon you as you take your final breath! Soldiers, tear the city apart. I want nothing left alive.'

05:08 Sebilisian Commander says 'Come and feel the blade of the Dark Bargainers.'

The Firiona Vie outpost is no longer a safe haven for good-aligned forces. It has been overtaken by Lanys T`Vyl and her dark elven army of golems and evil forces.

Rumour has it that Firiona Vie and company are planning an attempt to regain control of their outpost..

Ok Daybreak! Time to release The War again and give us a chance to liberate Firiona Vie, it feels too empty with just some random forces of Innoruuk wandering about.

I know this is old and forgotten but I think it would be cool for Sony to have added some significant tasks and what not and made this area like Hollowshade Moor and the war there...where by doing tasks/quests/kills a faction could flip the evil and good guys locations. Would put a cool wrinkle in the meta-gamers stuff too.

As of the double exp weekend i noted both my troll shaman and my iksar monk were taking a 66% exp peanalty for each high hold pass mission.

Yes I said 66 percent, to put it simply, either one of those characters have to do 3 missions to all other races 1 to get roughly 1 aa.

Yup i bugged it, yup I petitioned it, nope soe has done nothing to correct this and finally yup both are retired and both accounts closed.

Raceism even in a game is unacceptable. Especially when you have to do 3 times the work of others in the same group doing the same mission.

Soe has done nothing to address this issue so i have neglected to pay on either of those accounts. Money talks and well you know the rest.

So yes the racial peanalty is still in effect and no a 66% peanalty is not deserved.

I know no one will probably see this post, as this was over long ago... However...

Don't come back to Everquest... Before there were cities that were neutral to all races, before there was the plane of knowledge, Everquest was great, why? Racism.

Racism is real, racism happens, Norrath isn't modern day earth, racism shouldn't be seen as wrong, especially when you take into account it is separate species. Hey, look back a couple hundred years on earth... Racism was very tolerated then, and we had guns! Once they put in stealth bombers we can talk about removing racism... I would like to add that I am against racism... But only in real life.

Now race doesn't effect anything, the gear is so good that stats don't matter, Iksar get more AC, Ogres get immunity from stun from in front, Drakkin get breath weapons... Theres not anything else that makes the races significantly different. As for experience penalties, yeah, they're gone now...

Personally I would like to see many more racist NPCs, not just not talking to you, or disliking you because of race, but going into inappropriate comments based on your race, racial slurs and so on. I'm sure theres not any trolls out there playing EQ that are going to be offended by a halfling making a racial comment, I mean come on... Racism, done tastefully in games, as to not insult REAL people or cultures, adds depth.

If you think racism is wrong, why not complain about classes? Why cant a human be a berserker? Why can't a dwarf learn the arts of wizardry? Honestly, there is no reason that any race should be restricted in classes, why are they? To make the game interesting.

If you're going to complain about no racial equality... Complain about the right things.

Lets see... Ah, racial superiority! Why didn't you mention anything about that? What if I think its racist that Erudites are weak and uncharismatic? Isn't it racist to say that one race is inferior to another, especially intellectually? Or perhaps you would like to fight for elemental rights, put all magicians away for good! That'll teach them to send slaves to their deaths.

Evil Races - xp penalty
# Sep 15 2005 at 5:18 AM Rating: Decent
Ogres also have an experience penalty. Their big happy skill to compensate for is not being stunnable from the front for most mobs.
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 10 2005 at 7:44 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) It is sad enough that Sony has to over arm and cheat by giving those evil pigs better weapons and power and HP than players or good Npc' these developers probaly are sad that all of New York was not destroyed on 9/11,Slavery is wrong and Custer didnt get to slaughter all the Indian's. How anyone could even in a game to promote evil by wanting Felwith and other places would probaly have dinner Ben laddin and think he is great

you mean how almost every evil race has a stupid xp penalty-iksar newbie areas are filled with kos mobs-before pop iksar had to either get a port or jump the boat before it docked-stupid quest like orc belts from cb can get you to level 8-on sullon the DE newbie area isnt even a newbie area because of how low level the guards are the;the list goes on,and at least we dont live under the thumb of "the vision" anymore..stupid evil hating tards they were.

No races have an exp penalty except for Trolls and Iksar, because of their regeneration ability. And it is rightfully deserved. In newbie times they have a very easy time regenerating from battle. And as for having to turn in belts, you must just have been lazy yourself back then. I have started all classes from cabilis except for shadowknight and each time it has been easier than the last to level up as fast as anywhere. My god when you get to lvl 10 you have kurns as a dungeon which is like 75 second walk from cabilis. Even back when kunark began all dungeons had the bonus and the mass of skeletons made it an ideal place to level and now it has the below level 30 dungeon bonus as well. As for the dark elf newbie area, it does suck but there are pleanty of non aggro mobs there, and when you get up to lvl 5+ there is the undead yard that is very good with a zone line very near. Evil races have it good most of the time, but I'd never pick any besides troll or iksar because why bother without the regen ability?...

Yah, but once you get past those early levels, that XP penalty really hits hard.

Being an Iksar ShadowKnight, I was lucky enough to have missed the hybrid penalty we also received, but still feel the effects.

it really does cheese me off that for every 10 AAXP's my groupmates achieve, I've only gotten 8-9... at the level when mob experience is hitting the hundreds of thousands... the percentage of regen you have (especially considering the new regen table) does not make up for the loss of experience.

This game is far too evolved to keep this ancient piece of coding for "the vision"... Please take our exp penalty away!

Unless he/she/it is running partial xp.
Then AA xp is a percentage no matter how minute of what he/she/it would have recieved as regular xp.

So if your running AA xp and have an xp penalty go all or nothing.

Has worked for my Iksar SK.

# Feb 07 2005 at 8:16 AM Rating: Decent
I searched all through out the outpost hailing all npc's I could find. At this time I could not find any new quests or even an NPC that would respond to hails. Will try again in different languages (just thought of that) Dark Speech, Teir'Dal, Elder Teir'Dal etc. The rogue I was trying this with a a DE that is amiamble to all the NPCs in the outpost. <edit> There are still a few remaining NPCs loyal to Firona around the city. I found Scout Bowfist, the named dog, and one other that despawned just as I was getting in range in the tunnel from the city to the far side of the water. The dragoons and golems in the city will not attack these NPCs even when ya bring them out into the open and fight right in front of them.<edit>

Any word on where Firona may be hiding? That could be the next phase, or it could be that she is going to attempt to retake the city. Heh I wouldn't mind seeing the Armies of Lanys T'Vyl storming the gates of Felwithe. Now that could make for an interesting war lol. <edit Or perhaps since the armies are amassed ,Lanys T'Vyl can finish what was started so long ago in Kithicor. Teir'Dal unite and let us lay claim to Highpass!

Mobs and drops are gone, unless they reappear in the 3rd phase that is mentioned above. Or there is a chance that they may reappear after the release of the new expansion. My guess is though that they have gone the way of the fabled mobs. Of course some items were attunable and ya may be able to find one in bazaar. My trader on Terris Thule has both an Exquisite Earring and Exquisite Ring for sell. ;)

I have to say I'm sad about hearing people talking about no order on their servers for good or evil. On the Lanys T'vyl server, the goods put up an excellent fight, doing all their own pulling and excellent crowd control and general all around slaughtering of the evils. The evil side of the raid never even took off, and in the events of the war, I didn't notice if anyone else posted this but about halfway through the war, the good side made it to KC witha reasonable force and pretty much just backhanded any evil forces until I left just as some horse guy was being spotted. I feel bad that after waiting so long to be a part of this, since I knew something like ti was going to happen, I missed the conclusion, seeing as the good raid even died down into the previously mentioned bloodbath, with a 3rd side appearing int eh PC's: a raid full of people KoS to everything... then all hell broke loose and I got myself out of there. Congrats to Verant for such a an Actually real good idea!

My own feeling about the war part of the event is that it broke the mold on how the exp grind and single pulls only that EQ has become. Sure, the FV zoneline was a trainwreck but this was a war. On the other hand, the BW zoneline was clear and peaceful as well as the tunnel out of the druid/wizzy port area.
What was really enjoyable was pulling the evil forces into the good, having them kill the mobs for ya and looting. Another strategy I used whilst soloing the event was wait for an engagement of the armies, then to do a low agro pull out of the mess, if I caught agro from more than 1 mob, I would kite them back into the army to switch agro over to them, then pick the same mob and usually would have a single on the 2nd attempt.
From what I saw, this event was geared towards both groups, raids, and soloist a like. Sure a group or a soloist is not going to be able to take down a raid level mob, but there were many other opportunities for great loot. The timing was of the DL event was also good, prime time for the US players. If your guild was on a raid and is complaining about the time of the war, you could have always abandoned your static raid target for the evening and done the event. The FV part of the event was pretty late in the evening for most US players but it fell into the dynamic events storyline and the progression of the overthrow. I hope to see more progression like this in the future, it has become dishearting to see the lack of progression in gameplay that EQ has become and this a step in the right direction.

War on Bertox
# Feb 04 2005 at 12:27 PM Rating: Decent
I headed to Karnor's Castle on the night of the war not knowing what I was getting into. I got to the FV-DL ZL to find about 10 people there either rcovering or trying to wait for a rez. I tried zoning into Dl and after about 3 minutes got into the zone. There were close to 100 people in the zone and the lag was some of the worst I have seen since starting EQ.
Anyway I SoWed myself and invisd and looked around at the entrance of the cave to find people from both sides training both armies on each other. Yes people were intentionally pulling groups of 5-15 of the evil side onto the players of the good side and the good army. I am sure this was happening on the other side as well but did not see it.
I took off and headed for KC and made it safely to KC. People were getting rezzes like crazy at the entrance to Karnor's so I zoned in to KC to see what was going on in there. Found abotu 10 people in there resting b4 joining the fight.
Still invisd I went back outside to watch the fight knowing that it would probably take at least a lvl 65 to do any damage to any of the evil guys that were starting to be trained onto the people at KC ZL. Found I was wrong. I conned a couple of the baddies and found that at lvl 52 some where dk blue and yellow to me, but when you are looking at 8-10 mobs standing there getting ready to pund on you, they might as well be red. Lousy time for my invis to wear off when looking at 10 baddies but do to lag I only saw that I was hit once b4 I realized I was dead.
Thanks to the Cleric that rezzed me and as I was looting my body I heard that sound that everyone hears at times like this, the sound of a freight train as it runs over you. Yep, dead again. Another rez, not as much lag this time, get body looted and make a hasty exit out of zone through FM and a different hunting ground for the night.
Only thing I can say about this event is that no one on either side tried to organize a group to fight or try to turn it into a raid type of deal, it was every man and woman for themselves. And it was one huge railyard with trains pulling in every 2-3 minutes.

to begin with i thought it was a great event, alot of fun...didnt get any cool loots but it was something different to do for an evening.

as far as the timing goes, well, quite simply, ya cant please everyone and the attitude of the guild ppl here complaining that they were raiding during it and scolding the timing of this event is just too funny. most of the new expansion content is targetted at the high end guilds so quit your sniveling and be on your way.
there are others not even in guilds that deserve content directed toward them to have fun with.

/gasp, someone got loots besides the high enders?.....yay

The bosses of this event (not the horseman or dragon those are mini-bosses) were probably pretty hard i know i got hit by lany's HT for over 2k on a CR as she walked into the FV tunnel zoning killing a good number of other people. Looking at the artifact drops i guessing only high ender would be able to take down a 250+ hp item drop so starting the event after they were in the middle of a GoD raid is kinda like wasting it.

As for the the fact that you didn't have to do anything to get loot has its good and bad points. Sucked for people who really wanted to try and kill the mobz for loots i know me and a few others were trained and killed many times while trying to kill a mob ourself and not using other NPCs to help.

For the drops it was pretty nice VT level gear droped like crazy and was pretty good for my ranger twink although I never got him the cloak which was the only upgrade he really needed from the event.

Over all i think it was a pretty good event would have liked to see a little better order to make it easier to get to ur corpse and stuff but for the most part enjoyable and wish they would do more stuff like this.

You have to remember too that not all the trains were player created. The two factions were at war with each and the evil side would commonly charge the offensive forces killing everything in there path.

From a war strategy posisition, I can recognize the formations and tactics they used but where were the range attacks & cavalry? Plus, from the evil side, why did the skellies advance? Wonder also how the dynamics of the event would have changed if took place in an open ended zone like WK that doesn't have a bottleneck zoneline on the east. Anyway, if they would have modified the social agro list a bit to be a little more forgiving and prevented mob stacking, I think the war would have benifited and looked more realistic.
Timings of these events

War or not, I for one would like to see an event like this start at a decent central time hour, like 7 or 8pm. That gives west and east coast ample time to join in also. And with the dwindling amount of people on the servers, more precise Terris Thule, we couldn't get enough people mustered to take down any of the named. The fall of the city was like around 2-3am and we only had less than a dozen people left to watch that. If the war had started 2-3 hours earlier, we surely would have had more participation. Good one Sony for having an activity that almost everyone slept through.

Ya, big applauds for this event, since it started in the middle of the week and not all who play EQ are unemployed. the population on European servers are little to none at 2 AM.

One would think that someone would react at dev department and think that MAYBE such big events should be held at a WEEKENDS and a tad bit earlier, but that is too ask to much i guess.

Events like these are useless at this time, take heed morons!!!

I agree by the time big stuff started happening not many people were still around (and able to get their corpse) to do much. One of the lower guilds on our server took down one of the horse guys and i got a small 20-30 person pickup raid to take down the 2nd one. We were going after the dragon next but he was underground although we pulled him and he poped up after wiping us from underground i was helping someone try to get a corpse in FV and zoned in to an instant death even with 9k+ buffed hp and being 3am EST i just logged and everyone else didn't bother going after the dragon.
where is Al'Kabor?

where is Al'Kabor RIGHT NOW? I been lookin for him for weeks and always seem to miss him. I have several turn in items for the TOFS event, and while i know its unlikely that i will be able to actually gain anything from it, i do wish to try. but i cant find him. he was in FV, but it fell, then someone said he was in Dreadlands. i was there an hour ago, and hes not there either.

where is he??
