This quest may be doable at an earlier level, however the rewards have required levels of 40.

Zone into Lavastorm Mountains and find Head Miner Bibol at location +2480, -710 near the Lavaspinners Lair.

Head Miner Bibol says 'You there, why aren't you digging? I see no tools in your hands. we have a deadline to make, get over here!'

You say, 'Hail, Head Miner Bibol'

Head Miner Bibol says 'Hail yourself. We have a lot of digging to do around here. Time is money, you know. If only our [depth gauge] hadn't disappeared. It's those pesky goblins I reckon.'

You say, 'What depth gauge?'

Head Miner Bibol says 'You don't even know what a depth device is? What kind of miner are you? It is a brilliant little piece of technology that keeps track of our progress with this hole over here. It also lets me know when people have been slacking, if you know what I mean. We simply must get a [replacement] from Ak'Anon, but I can't spare any workers to go retrieve one.'

You say, 'What replacement?'

Head Miner Bibol says 'Well, the king's clerk has already been made aware of the situation. We just need someone to go [pick it up].'

You say, 'I will pick it up'

Head Miner Bibol says 'You don't even know what it is! It is better than losing a good miner for such a trivial task, now isn't it. Humm. Okay then, get to Ak'Anon and give this to Palthen. Make quicklike, you hear?'

Receive Depth Gauge Order.

Head to Ak'Anon and find Royal Clerk Palthen in King Ak'Anon's throne room (location +810, -165). He does not respond to hails.

Give him Depth Gauge Order.

Royal Clerk Palthen stutters and looks embarrassed. "That sure was quick. I only got word that theirs disappeared yesterday! Oh dear, if we don't get that hole dug soon I can't even . . Now don't you worry about that. The only one that we have left in stock is busted I'm afraid. I was going to have [Mip] look at it this afternoon. Can you run it over to him? Please!?'
You gain experience!!

Receive Malfuctioning Depth Gauge.

You say, 'Who is Mip?'

Royal Clerk Palthen says 'Mip Sprocket. He's just one of our mechanics but this device in particular was his creation. I am afraid no one else has been able to determine what is wrong with it. Please get it to him quickly so Bibol can oversee this project. It is very important that we get this wrapped up before that [horrible man] returns.'

You say, 'What horrible man?'

Royal Clerk Palthen says 'I shouldn't have said anything. No, no I sure shouldn't. Please don't say anything. Just get that to Mip!'

Head to the Steamfront Mountains and find Mip Sprocket inside one of the Windmills (location +135, -900). Give Mip the Malfuctioning Depth Gauge.

Mip Sprocket says 'Ah, here you are. Let me look at that blasted thing.' Mip tinkers around with the malfunctioning device for a minute. 'Ah, that should do the trick. I had a loose spring on the combobulator. Good as new! I'd take this right over to Bibol if I were you.'
You gain experience!!

Receive Gnomish Depth Gauge.

Return to the Lavastorm Mountains and give Head Miner Bibol the Gnomish Depth Gauge.

Head Miner Bibol flips a switch and the device starts to hum and whir merrily. 'Not bad at all, Mip sure knows his stuff. Here, take this and get going then. Oh, actually . . Do you have [time] to make another run back to Ak'Anon?'
You gain experience!!

Receive Sooty Miner's Cloak.

You say, 'I have time'

Head Miner Bibol says 'Great. Sorry I was so abrupt earlier. This has been the most ill-begotten project ever. I have the [status report] ready.'

You say, 'What status report?'

Head Miner Bibol says 'It is a bit strange. For some reason Clerk Palthen is requiring daily reports. It is a huge waste of time in my opinion, we do much better judging our progress weekly, but the orders come directly from the king. Palthen's been even jumpier than usual lately, and let me tell you he is a bit spacey to begin with. Can you [deliver] the report?'

You say, 'I will deliver the report'

Head Miner Bibol says 'Here it is then, get going.'

Receive Status Report.

Head back to Ak'Anon and give Royal Clerk Palthen the Status Report.

Royal Clerk Palthen says 'Ah yes, the status report! Oh gee, I almost forgot. That would have been very bad, very bad indeed! Here is your receipt.'
You gain experience!!

Receive Status Receipt.

Return to Lavastorm Mountains and give Head Miner Bibol the Status Receipt.

Head Miner Bibol scans the receipt quickly. 'All seems to be in order. Take this for your trouble. Now grab a pick and get digging!'

You gain experience!!

Receive Lucky Miner's Gorget as well as the cloak back.

Playing a DE Mage and the quest is doable. Need invis often and keep your gate up to get away fast. No need to talk to the Royal Clerk, just hand in and get out as they pound on you. Caution do not go right next to the Royal Clerk as you stand a change of also agroing the King in the next room. Hopefully you just get one Watchman hitting you. Also to note. The Royal Clerk is at the bottom of the Palace, took me a bit to locate him. Everything else is easy to do. Mip is indifferent, but again the Watchman around are threateningly to you.

Finished this quest both parts on Coirnav today. So it should be listed in Planes of Power instead of Omens. There is a delay for the last step of around an hour or so before you can collect the second item.

Forget all the talk about anti-farm timers and such: one quest will give my caster alts fourteen points worth of INT goodness?! Sign me up! I remember when we used to jump through rings of fire for 10pct reduction bags when we used boats!

My, oh my, how things have changed...

I run over and get the status report and depth gauge from the miner and pick all the picks up in the zone. I do all three quests turn-ins at one time. You get some xp and if you wait out the timer on the hand-ins, you can get the items. They sell to venders for 94 pp and some change each. Do the fiery ore quest too, and more pp. I'm using a 13 lvl Froggy Warrior and he is doing all the tasks from the task masters and these quests for xp and pp.

Ok these quests are on a timer. That means you have to wait 1 hour between turn ins. So if you turn in the first part, you go ahead and continue on with the second part but hold off trying to turn in. Once an hour has pastd (real time) you can turn it in.
This goes for most of the quests in Lavastorm.
We had done the necklace, the belt and the cape.

"Note: Turn-ins seem to be buggy at this time. Some people are able to get them to work while Bibol refuses others."

Here is the deal. SOE is using some "anit farming code". Keep you ding-dongs from framing the heck out of this stuff and selling it to those who are too lazy to look it up.

What most are doing is comming here and seeing there are 2 quests going to the same guy in midget town. SO they tell the miner both phrases needed to get both items. You know... kill 2 birds with one stone.

The problme here is the code. Once you a turn in to the minor... either one. You are flagged with that NPC and you cannot turn in the other item until the flag is cleard.... about an hour or so.

sorry it posted to wrong reply.
The quest are on a timer. You have to wait for 1 hour after you have turned in the first part. You can get all the quests and then start the turn ins. That way you do not have as long to wait without doing something.

Not sure level 40 should be level range. It can be done by level 20's and most by lower levels with invisibility. Level 40 is needed only to use items. Items sell to vendor for up to 119 pp. Good PP for real newbies.
Amiable or days of delay...

On MM server, the delay seems to be longer than an hour...
Possibly even days!
Either that or the Gorget reward requires an amiable con to Bibol.
And the Cloak need not be handed over, at least not if you wear it,
which I did...
Still working

The last part of this quest when i try to hand in the reciept he says "im sorry i cannot accept this at this time. Please come back later." I already completed the first part and got the cloak, and then handed in report. whats up?

If you'll notice, the resultant items sell for 120-130pp to merchants. A druid could bind at Bibol and use Ring of Steamfont to do this quest quickly and repeatedly and make a ton of cash very fast. I think the timer is meant to nerf that ability.

I finished all of the second part of this quest last night. He wouldn't take the turn in... I assumed that I just had to wait for the timer, so I logged, went to sleep, and when I logged back on, he wasn't there. I assume the quest is over.

Cloak/necklace
# Feb 01 2005 at 1:24 PM Rating: Decent
Okay lets dispel some urban legends here, dual boxing it several times and here are my results; any single character can turn in and get the cloak, there is no set timer for different characters. But if the same character tries to get the cloak multiple times in quick succession, it makes you wait. The necklace seems to be on some absolute timer, you cannot do the necklace turn in back to back with two different characters. Not sure what the timer is for the necklace but you can deifnately repeat both quest with the same character if you are patient about it.

And no, you do not need to turn in the cloak with the necklace, if you read the quest text when you try this you will get the "I have no need for this item" text amongst all the other blather about the quest.

I am sure in reading the text that there can only be 1 hand in per game day
Timer on successful turn-ins
# Feb 01 2005 at 11:21 AM Rating: Decent
It appears to prevent spamming of the quest rewards they have put a 30 minute or so timer between successful turn-ins - should get items back accept for the one of the 4 ores for the ring quest which is broken. Ring quest was definitely being spammed since you didnt have to leave the zone to finish. Fire Drakes had a low life expectance over the weekend on Morden Rasp (my mage killed three or four dozen including flameclaw three times)

Did the quest, everything worked perfectly, up untill the last turn-in.

Did everything in the 'order' of the quest.

He would not accept my receipt. Logged off, tried again later, still no luck.

Will check again later.

edit: worked fine today, (waited a day).

I just handed in the Status Receipt without the cloak and got the necklace. Have done the quest twice on different characters and neither time did I turn the cloak in for the necklace.
Anti-Farm Reset Timer
# Jan 30 2005 at 1:55 PM Rating: Decent
I finished both this quest and the Picks quest this morning, and after much experimentation and waiting- I'm fairly certain that the anti-farm coding resets when Bibol and Welnik do their zonewide patter about getting back to work. I had to wait for both of them to reset, and both times, I finally completed the second part of each quest immediately after they did their zonewide patter.
RE: Anti-Farm Reset Timer
# Jan 31 2005 at 6:55 AM Rating: Decent
If your all interested you can do all 4 quests at the same time.

I will pick it up
and
'I will deliver the report

will get the 2 items needed for the Clerk, and handing them in one straight after the other is no problem

The pick / Ore quests, you just need have the items (4 picks for the Steamfont part of the quest) and 4 ores hand them in to the other miner and all will be good with the world. You might need to wait for the 2nd turn in for each miner, but that might be better then 2 trips to SF if you have to use PoK books. :)

My lv 22 Warrior had no problem getting or handing in

Okay, not sure why, but after trying lots of differnt ways to give Bibol both the cloak and reciept (Separetly, at same time but in different order, etc), I walked away for a few minutes, came back tried giving him both again and got the Gorget (and the cloak back).

All's I can think is maybe someone had Bibol with a partial turn in or something. Anyways, I got the cloak and gorget, and they're pretty darn nice drops for the work involved with this quest.

Tried giving Bibol both the cloak and the reciept. At least he talked to me, but said he didn't need this. Gave me back the receipt and cloak no gorget.
