This is a single group trial.

You say, 'Hail, Projection of Power'

Projection of Power says 'Halt, Wood Elf, and hear my words. Your background and your status are of no consequence. All are welcome to participate in the trials to prove their worth, or die trying. Whosoever approaches me has addressed the embodiment of Power, keeper of the trials of Destruction and Corruption. The former is a small-scale test, while the latter is large-scale. My task is to explain the rules and usher hopefuls into the battle arena. Would you like to hear the rules for [small-scale] or [large-scale] trials, or do you wish to enroll in [Destruction] or [Corruption]?'

You say, 'What small-scale trials?'

Projection of Power says 'Every test has its rules and these trials are no exception. The following guidelines must be followed to the letter, or else you stand to forfeit or perish. You are allowed no more than six participants in the battle. Once the trial has begun, you must remain in the combat area. Violators of this rule will be warned and then destroyed. Your progress will be carefully monitored. If you take too long, you will fail. These are the rules and they are not negotiable.'

You say, 'Tell me about the Destruction trial.'

Projection of Power says 'To conquer worlds requires the capability to annihilate vast areas. How much devastation can you inflict in as short a time as possible? Can you cut a swathe in the ranks of your enemy and destroy them with impunity? If you have this ability, now is the opportunity to prove your worth!'

The direction to the entry to your instanced zone(s) have been marked on your compass.

LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
You have entered Proving Grounds: The Mastery of Destruction.

You say, 'Hail, Master of Destruction'

Master of Destruction says 'Is that your BREATH..or did something die in here..now go away!'

You begin to sneak...

Master of Destruction regards you indifferently -- looks kind of dangerous.

You say, 'Hail, Master of Destruction'

Master of Destruction says 'This is the Mastery of Destruction trial. You must demonstrate your ability to annihilate your enemies, destroying as many opponents as possible within a given time frame. Are you ready to [begin]?'

You stop sneaking.

You say, 'We are ready to begin.'

The trial has begun. You cannot bring any additional people into your expedition at this time.

This trial is straightforward. It requires massive DPS. You must kill 20 mobs (names?), spawning 1-3 at a time, within 15 minutes. Once you've accomplished that, the Master of Destruction will become targettable. Don't waste too much time waiting to pull him, because he gains strength as time goes by. Drop the Master in order to win.

A Shell of the Master will spawn with the loot.

The trials are even easier at level 90. The timer should be removed.

This was my first trial ever as I had recently came back to EQ and missed these trials and at 85 I figured it would be a breeze. I had heard the mobs run around really fast and it is sometimes hard to aggro them so you may miss your quota chasing mobs that pop away from you. I am not sure I could have merc soloed this as an SK without dropping my cleric and getting a caster DPS merc for this one trial. I put the J5 DPS merc on balanced and just sat on the top island while she would cast on the mobs as they popped and kill them before they even got to her. I killed (actually she killed) over 20 but I couldn't attack the master until there was 30 seconds remaining. Once the 30 seconds warning went off I could attack the master and 1 max HT later he was dead. The mobs do run around really fast and have horrible pathing. Yeah it cost me a little plat but no guildies were interested so I gave it a go and won. Any 80-85 (maybe lower) who wants an easy way to get more resist cap can do this and I think J1 would have no issue as my merc had more then 80% mana left when it was over.

1. Zone into to trial
2. Go behind Master with your group
3. Hail Master to start the event
4. Get agro on all the mobs that spawn each wave, as if you don't, they will despawn and you will struggle to get your quota before time expires.

*** If you cannot keep up with the kills, then move to the front of the Master and do whatever you can to keep up with the quota before your time runs out.

5. Once you get your quota, you can attack the Master. Don't expect him to agro and attack once your quota is met, you need to keep track.
6. Don't delay in attacking him or burning him down if your group is in the level 70 range. Higher level toons will have zero problem with disposing of this guy.

Target shell after it's over, /open to loot.

3 day lockout on successful trial
2 hour lockout on all other trial

Unsure what your timer will be if you fail.

As with other notes here, killed well over 20 mobs, with the master giving continual countdown messages. As far as I could tell he was not targetable until the entire count went through.

Other than that annoyance, this was falling off a log easy, we had no trouble with mobs trying to head to zone in area or anything, they all aggroed us if we weren't fast enough to aggro them. Just keep killing till the timer runs out then you can target and kill boss.

IMO SOE should really consider removing the lockout timer now that gear here is not worth farming. Toons that have not done these still need to do them for the resist bump.

Just tried it today. If you stay outside of the arena where the master is you will get a warning saying that you are violating the rules. If you stay outside after he gives the warning 2 or 3 times you get death touched. It was very unpleasant. I only left the area cause the mobs didn't go towards the center. I saw at least 2 of them pathing towards where you would zone in. To say the least i failed the trial. It was the first time i ever tried it. The mobs kept spawning after i failed the trial though which sucked. Was given a 5 minute warning that i would need to leave after i failed task. The instance booted me and crashed after the 5 minutes were up but mobs kept spawning right until that point.

Okay i finally completed it today. I had 85 monk/shaman/druid/cleric. No mercs up. I positioned my chars a little further apart then i did previously and since they are so trivial at this level i nuked the hell outa them with the shaman/druid/cleric. I still almost failed though. The fatty girplan guys would some times not agro me. I left druids tracking up with auto update on. The master became targettable when i had under 30 seconds left. I used twincast buff that lasted 18 seconds with druid and alternated between Mornings Glory Rk2 and Summer Solstice Rk2 and nuked as quickly as i could with the shaman and cleric while beating up on him with the monk. It was enough to down the master in time.

I did not see any mobs walk towards zone in as i had posted previously. Im not sure if having mercs up last time caused some sorta agro/spawn/pathing issues so i didn't try with them this time around. I would highly suggest bringing a friend or 2 along just to make sure you agro all the mobs that spawn. They should all be visible from the center where the master is.

I tried yet again today. Some more information. Some of the mobs will walk towards the area you first port into. They must be agrod before they leave your sight otherwise im fairly certain they will disapear some where down towards the entrence. Some of them will circle around the pad. I stayed in the middle of that pad almost the whole time. I fell out once for only a few seconds trying to agro a mob. They will despawn after walking onto one of the smaller pads that circle the spot where you need to stay and fight so getting agro asap is very important. If you bring friends which i haven't tried either time it should be much easier.

Aye you just have to all be in the room. If someone is at ZI then you can't start it. With todays DPS expect to be standing around waiting a bit for spawns. We did it with a 80s group geared ranger, monk, cleric and merc tank with tons of time to spare.

killed 25 mobs before named became targetable around 30 seconds until end of trial, killed named very few hps but i suppose it fluxuates i think we pulled soon after he became targetable and he had 105k hps time taken 28 seconds to kill and he had a dps of 187 on our tank
Named Agro?
# Nov 05 2007 at 7:46 PM Rating: Decent
Killed way over 20 spawns before named. Had less then 30 seconds left and the named wouldn't agro. He eventually aggroed not sure if it is because it's bugged or you have to hail him.

We did this just a few minutes ago with bard, rogue, necro x 2, cleric, pally ... and did pretty well on the waves, but got early agro on named. All died but one necro.

Necro ressed cleric, cleric ressed the rest back in. We rebuffed and killed him. Mob hit no harder after probably 15mins on our regrouping. Max hit was 2100.

Cleric won shoulders =)

Group Makeup: Tank (13kish) Dps Dps Dps Healer Dps/cc

Pretty simple. We use a ranger as the ma. Initially three mobs spawn. Have the tank offtank 2 of them while the ma gives the target for the rest of the group to assist. Kill one, peel one off the tank. The tank holds aggro and keeps his eyes open for pops, aggroing them as they spawn (they can path between podiums and despawn if they are not aggroed). They really don't spawn very quickly, and if your dps is good, you'll be waiting on pops.

At 1 minute, have your group hug the wall. Master spawns at the end of the timer, provided you've killed enough. Ranger ws pull, slow, debuff, etc, drop aggro to tank, beat silly.

Only one type of monster in this trial is mezzable. I think(think) it's the dragorns. Really, don't bother. If you did bring an enc, their mana is better spent nuking.

Horn appears to be common. 4horns, 2 eyes, no shoulders as of yet.

Dragorn are mezzable. They enrage as do the Girplans and the Lightning guys. Other mobs include Skeletons, Elementals and Discordlings. Can't member if Discordlings enrage or not.
Nothing snared. Enchanters are good for slowing but a shaman or Bard might be better for more healing or more mana. Enchanter is good with enough AA for nuking, and emergency rebuffs on over nukers.
Offtanking is best left to pets or SK's if possible as either are easier to heal.
The mez is still pretty nice to have as often the mobs come 2 and 3 at a time, even tho after they die you wait for 30secs to a minute for more to respawn.

We did this trial with a pally tanking and no slower. The link shows every group set up with a chanter. This isn't Tipt. We used mage DS as a large part of the DPS, as well as a druid, cleric, rogue and necro. Dropped the horn. The thing you want for this trial more than anything is DPS. It was a crunch to kill the mobs in the alotted time. We needed 20 and I think we barely killed 21 before the named became active.
RE: Not hard
# Dec 09 2004 at 8:01 PM Rating: Decent
Nothing wrong with having a chanter. A chanter, with the proper AA, focii, and spell set, can drop some bombs. No wizard/mage, but it's an underused aspect.
RE: Not hard
# Jan 25 2005 at 8:10 PM Rating: Decent
He doesn't say there is anything wrong with having a chanter. The complaint is that the writeup in the link below shows a chanter in every group formation. And they are not necessary. Big difference.

On a further note; it would seem that the writeups were all written by a chanter, hence the inclusion of a chanter in all the groups.

You'll notice all the trial notes talk about which mezzes or mana drains or whatnot to use.
