Anyone at least 68th level is automatically granted the flag for Anguish. The information here regards the ACTUAL flag, as it was prior to the minimum level requirement introduced.

This is a two-step process. You'll need to 1) Complete a series of raid trials, and 2) Run some errands for Taromani in order to safely zone into Asylum of Anguish.

You can do these out of order. We present them this way for clarity.

Step One - Trials

You must complete the Muramite Proving Grounds raid trials of mastery:

The Mastery of Adaptation (Projection of Realms)
The Mastery of Corruption (Projection of Power)
The Mastery of Endurance (Projection of Body)
The Mastery of Foresight (Projection of Tactics)
The Mastery of Hate (Projection of Mind)
The Mastery of Specialization (Projection of Arcana)

These trials are no easy task, but have some very nice rewards. Upon completing the six, you'll receive a Seal: Mastery of All. This is your key to Asylum of Anguish.

Step Two - Immunization of Asylum's AE

Taromani is a named pyrilen in Riftseekers' Sanctum at +590, -1250, +45.

You say, 'Hail, Taromani'

Taromani says 'Greetings, _____. You have certainly traveled far from home. To what does Taromani owe the pleasure of this visit? Have you come to tell me a [story]?'

You say, 'I have come to tell you a story.'

Taromani says 'Splendid! I relish an opportunity to swap tales with mortals. Allow me to go first. In a shattered realm, there existed a twisted overlord that ruled all. He laid waste to entire worlds, destroying or consuming whatever he touched. Those that resisted his influence were quickly annihilated or enslaved. His lands were governed with an iron fist and later abandoned when they no longer served his purpose. This overlord was universally feared and despised. Yet, while his presence was eternally felt, the despot was rarely seen. He had sealed himself away in his citadel in the sky, flanked by his most trusted underlings. None [dared challenge] him there.'

You say, 'Dared challenge?'

Taromani smirks and continues, 'The reason no one challenged the overlord was because his realm was fatal to all but a select few. The forces of chaos magic present there would tear most beings to shreds. Only with the proper protection could a mortal hope to enter the citadel of Anguish and survive the experience. It was the ultimate defense against invasion. However, there was a [flaw] in the overlord's plans.'

You say, 'What flaw?'

Taromani licks her lips and whispers, 'The overlord failed to consider what would occur if a certain Half Elf named ______ were to do a few favors for a Pyrilen named Taromani in return for her protection. Now it's your turn to finish the story. How does it end? Does the _____ assist with the [favors]?'

You say, 'I will assist with the favors.'

Receive Taromani's Insignia Case, a 7-slot container.

Taromani says 'Very good. A life in Mata Muram's army is a dangerous one - often nasty, brutish, and short. He must regularly replenish his ranks, promoting the most talented individuals of the lower tiers to replace those that have fallen. Seek out and eliminate these promising soldiers, the up-and-coming members of his forces. Bring me their insignias in this case to prove completion. This will slow down their progress considerably. When you have done what I have asked, I will follow through with my part of the bargain and provide you with the protection you need to access his citadel.'

The seven signets are dropped by various dragorns in different zones:

Access to Asylum of Anguish - A Cunning Dragorn in the Sewers of Dranik and the Insidious Dragorn in the Dranik Catacombs no longer have placeholders and are now guaranteed to spawn in all three versions of these instances. They now carry six signets, but will not respawn.

Crystal-Gemmed Signet: Riftseekers' Sanctum (a Dragorn Battlemaster)

Discolored Signet: Sewers of Dranik, instance A, B, C (a Cunning Dragorn)

Dust-Marred Signet - Catacombs of Dranik, instance A, B, C (Insidious Dragorn)

Glimmering Signet - Muramite Proving Grounds (Dragorn Tactician, who procs Dragornian Malady)

Tarnished Signet - Wall of Slaughter (a Dragorn Mastermind, Dragorn Tactician)

Two-Toned Signet - Dranik's Hollows (a Shrewd Dragorn, who procs Clinging Apathy, Deep Gouge, Dragornian Malady)

Weather-Worn Signet - Ruined City of Dranik (a dragorn prodigy, who procs Dragornian Malady)

Combine the insignias in the container, which results in a Full Insignia Case. Give this to Taromani.

Taromani says 'Yes, you haven't disappointed me. This is exactly what I was hoping to see, _____. Mata Muram's forces will be hampered considerably. Now for your reward. . .' She kisses her palm and reaches forward, pressing the hand against your cheek. The skin is warm, almost unbearably so. You feel queasy for a moment, and when the sensation passes she withdraws her arm. 'You'll soon discover that his impenetrable defenses aren't so impenetrable after all. Soon you will be seeing the world through the shroud of Anguish.'

You receive a character flag:
You are now protected from the chaos magic in Mata Muram's citadel.

Has anyone completed Signet Quest before doing all six MPG trials? Nice to get it out of the way. Thanks for any info.

You can do the signet part without doing the MPG trials - you might not even need the trials for zoning in as long as most of your raid is flagged.

PS : It also says so in the quest description above : "You can do these out of order. We present them this way for clarity."

Various named also drop the seal to get into anguish too, so if your raid is able to get unflagged people in to loot the key then you are right you wont need the raid trials.

That is various named in Anguish drop the key...

Just a helpful hint for sewers and catacombs.

Take a really good group that has their game face on. Most of this quest was fairly simple that was until the catacombs.

To give you an idea we took a group of almost all timed and god geared toons (70 sham, 70 war, 70 monk, 70 cleric, 67 enchanter , 70 ranger) the repop time in the zone is unreal. There are rooms of 9 mobs and a repop time of 5 mins on all mobs.

We got half way and we were reclearing mobs that popped on top of us. There doesn't seem to be any safe spots to rest so I suggest an extremely high dps grp and crowd control is a must.

Invis would be nice like in DH however every 50 feet there seems to be a see invis mob and traps. Open to any ideas , right now it seems like you need DPS and alot of it.

In the sewers the repop on the placeholder was approximately 20-30 minutes. The mobs aren't overly difficult, most are mezzable and rank about the same difficulty as kriegers in BoT, if even that difficult.

The protection is against Mata Muram's Curse in Anguish, and for Anguish access you need to complete ALL 6 RAID trials in MPG, and you need to have the Protection key wich is the signets combinded as written above, eod.

All these rumors about this so called Zone Wide AE is bull. The facts are that you CAN NOT even zone in to Citadel of Anguish without the quest being completed. I have completed the key (6 trails in MPG) and attempted to zone in yesterday and got a message saying that the forces were to strong.. etc...etc..

You have completed all six trials in single groups or in raids?

You have to finish all six RAID trials and get a mark from each raid before you have the key to zone in.

You then also need the seven signets combined so you are protected when zoning in.

That's what He's saying Malgor, there is no Zonewide AE. The signets don't "Protect" you from anything, you merely can't zone it. They're a key really.

Indeed. And with good reason. Taromani tells you that the zone-wide AE would "tear you to shreds." Basically, instant death. Or at least hitting for a few thousand a tick. From an RP standpoint there's no reason you couldn't be gimped in without Taromani's protection, but from a gameplay standpoint it would be gamebreaking for anyone that tried it. The corpse summoners weren't introduced until DoN so you couldn't get your corpse back that way. You can't have someone drag it across zone lines. You can get rezzed but the zone-wide AE would annihilate you again before you could loot even if it only hit for a few thousand because you'd be naked and freshly rezzed. You'd basically have no way to get your corpse back. Well, aside from waiting for it to pop in Shadowrest but that's hardly reasonable.

I turned in the Full Insignia Case to Taromani today, and got the 'Reward". You do not get an item returned from this, you get a character flag. The message you get is thus:

You are now protected from the chaos magic in Mata Muram's citadel.

Taromani says 'Yes, you haven't disappointed me. This is exactly what I was hoping to see, Skyia.

<edit> Aye, recent information shows that this is one part of entrance REQUIREMENT for CoA- the other requirement is to complete all 6 raid trials in Proving Grounds zone.

Also seen the Riftseeker's mob (A Dragorn Battlemaster) in the left room as you enter the large area at the very top of the stairway. Just before you get to Queen area.

there is an aoe through out whole zone of anguish this quest give you item to protect you from the zone wide aoe with out it you basic can not move attack cast ie minus 500 str. you still need to complete all trials before being able to enter anguish but with out this little quest you will not live long once you get in.
RE: what this is for
# Apr 24 2006 at 10:59 PM Rating: Good
The fact is you can't enter the zone without the completed signets. you can have your Seal of All and not be able to get "Gimped In". So like someone said, there really isn't a zonewide AE to worry about, cause you won't get in to experience it. hmmm... almost sounds like a shroedingers<sp?> cat scenario - If a zonewide ae is cast, and there is no one that isnt immune to it in the zone, is it there? i guess the other one has something to do with a tree falling and no one there to hear it...

Zonewide AE is just for atmosphere, you can't enter Anguish without this flag, so no one can possibly know what kind of AE it is.

As far as I know, you need to complete all of the trials in the Muramite Proving Grounds to get the key for the Citadel of Anguish.

Seal: Mastery of ...

This quest provides the means to stay alive once you are in there I guess.
