  • If you have the Singing Short Sword or have completed the pre-quest:

Fear and Loathing in Dragon Necropolis

  • Lantaric`Dar may be found at +415, +3950 in the Wakening Land.

    You say, 'Hail, Lantaric`Dar'

Lantaric`Dar seems surprised as you approach him. He peers down at you with an inquisitive glint in his eyes. 'I sense a familiar aura around you Human. One I have not felt in a long time. Tell me Human, do you have news of a man named Baldric?'

You say, 'I know Baldric Slezaf.'

Lantaric`Dar 's eyes glitter with energy as you mention Baldric's name. 'So I was not mistaken, you do know Baldric. He was a friend, and as great a mortal as I have ever known. You must be an exceptional mortal yourself if Baldric saw fit to bequeath the blade to you. Yes I know of it. I could feel its energy around your body. Perhaps fate has brought you to me this day. I am in great need of help Human.'

Lantaric`Dar says 'One of our scouts recently came upon a band of mercenaries in possession of a letter from King Tormax. The letter described a mission to recover relics from the necropolis. This can not be allowed to happen. The holy resting place of my kin shall not be defiled! Journey to the necropolis and stop the mercenaries. Bring me anything you might find that would provide a clue as to what Tormax has planned.'

  • Journey to the Dragon Necropolis and you will see several mobs called "a mercenary excavator". Kill the ones near the entrance until you spawn Excavator Quellin, who summons and hits for 400.

  • Once Quellin is dead, find Tarn Macklin in the middle of the zone at around 1505, -540 (in a building whose door is laying on the ground). With him are six mobs, none of which are lullable. You'll need to kill Tarn as well (summons; hits for a max 500; this is one-groupable) and loot a Cracked Dragon Bone.

  • Bring the Cracked Dragon Bone to Lantaric`Dar.

Lantaric`Dar says 'My greatest fears have been proven true Human. The fragment you recovered from the mercenaries is a piece of the skeleton of Hsagra. The deceased mate of Yelinak and the only dragon of the first brood who has been put to rest. They are fools to think they can animate the corpse of Hsagra. No mortal can hope to manipulate the power of a fallen child of Veeshan. Nevertheless you must protect her relics from the mercenaries. Tormax will most certainly send more. Return to the necropolis and locate relics of Hsagra and put them to final rest in the pool of fire. Hsagra's skull is still held by Tormax, but if you collect three of her rib bones and the shard you brought me they will suffice for the fires of the necropolis. You must summon the spirit of Hsagra if you hope to put her to final rest. Go to the fires and call to her spirit and she will surely answer to one marked with the symbol of the kin. Give her spirit the relics of her broken body and her final rest will be complete. Hurry ______, before Kromzek mercenaries find the rest of her relics!'

  • Back to the Dragon Necropolis for j00! The Dragon Wing Bone, Dragon Claw Bone, and Dragon Tail Bone can either be ground spawns (reported at locations -180, +165, -255; +1575, +1025, -135; +905, -625, +5 so far) or drop from the constructs that spawn when you walk over the trapped bone piles.

Once you have all three, bring a few groups and go find Hsagra's Shade at the eastern end of the zone, surrounded by twelve level-68+ Chetari. Clear the room of everything but the shade. Beware the swarming beetle trap on the right side of the room. Once ready, give the shade the Dragon Wing Bone, Dragon Claw Bone, Dragon Tail Bone and Cracked Dragon Bone.

As you hold out the relics towards the spirit of Hsagra they begin to rise from yhour hands and glow softly. They drift slowly through the air towards Hsagra and are soon enveloped in the shadow of her spirit. The outline of Hsagra begins to glow softly along with the relics as she drifts towards the fiery pit of the necropolis.

Just as her spirit drifts to the edge of the pit, you feel a dark presence behind you. Suddenly the draconic spirit before you quivers as if the spirit were drifting between realities. The bones inside the spirit begin to grow dark and a black ethereal ooze begins to envelop them. As the last of the calcified bone is covered in dark ether the bones are torn from the spirit causing a spasm of pain to jerk across her visage. The screech of a thousand draconic voices echoes through the caverns of the necropolis in complete agony. You hear a dark cackle slither through your ears and your eyes drift across the lingering trail of drifting black ooze back towards the operning of the cavern.

Vesthon Marijakin smiles wickedly as he begins a dark spell.

  • Hsagra`s Shade will despawn, starting the event, which includes:

1 x Vesthon Marijakin (69+, named), hits for 800, and has about 445,000 hp, despawns after approximately three minutes
    3 x A Lumbering Zombie (69+), hits for 800, and has 150,000 hp
    4 x A Mercenary Guard (69+), hits for 800, and has 60,000 hp
    3 x A Marijakin Acolyte (69+), hits for 850, and has 50,000 hp

The three zombies spawn immediately. After 10-15 seconds, you see:

Vesthon Marijakin holds his left hand out in front of him maintaining an impossibly complex mystic sign with his fingers. The bones, still dripping with ethereal ooze twist and jerk in the air before him. His eyes lock with yours for a moment and a cold smirk slithers across his face as he opens his mouth to speak.

Vesthon Marijakin says 'I believe thanks are in order. I could never have hoped to actually have a chance to control the spirit of Hsagra first hand. I am in your debt. Of course that won't keep me from siphoning the life from your tired soul as well.'

Hsagra's spirit snarls and bears down on Vesthon. Vesthon's right hand comes up quickly and makes several quick motions while echoing some dark incantation. A black vapor appears around him and quickly separates into a set of ethereal tendrils.

The black tendrils reach out and begin snapping at Hsagra's shade. Several of the tendrils grab hold as her spirit cries out in horror. You turn back towards Vesthon and notice that several rather angry mercenaries have just entered the room behind him and are charging towards you.

  • The mercenaries spawn.

At 20% health, Vesthon turns into Vesthons Draconic Abomination.

Vesthon Marijakin cries out in agony as his body staggers to the ground. In a final act of desperation Vesthon raises his hands and motions to one of the black bones still drifting in the air.

The black tendrils retreat back from Hsagra's shade and fade into a benign black fog. Hsagra's shade fades quietly into the shadows.

Vesthons Draconic Abomination lumbers forward with a savage look in its eye.

  • Zerg away until you've killed this.

Vesthons Draconic Abomination's corpse falls as its limbs begin to spasm.

  • Loot a Blackened Dragon Bone and take this back to Lantaric`Dar.

Lantaric`Dar says 'So we finally uncover the Kromzek's true goals. They hope to take control of the spirit of Hsagra and animate her corpse into an undead abomination. I can not fathom the strength of will needed to control a will as strong as Hsagra. The necromancer you encountered must have some sort of focus that helps him control her spirit. The bones that he has stolen aren't enough on their own to summon and control Hsagra's spirit, but Tormax already has her skull as a trophy in his throne room. Those pieces combined will certainly have a sufficient connection to her spirit to draw it out.'

Lantaric`Dar says 'Vesthon will certainly return to the Necropolis and try to capture the spirit of Hsagra again. Once more the kin ask for your assistance ______. We haven't time to gather forces from Skyshrine, we must go now. Gather what ever forces you can muster quickly! Hurry Half Elf! The fate of a first brood spirit rests in your hands.'

  • Bring a raid force back to Dragon Necropolis and zone in. On zoning in, Vesthon Marijakin will spawn along with an inactive Dracoliche of Hsagra at 1400,-1050 (east and slightly south of where you found Tam Macklin before). Initially you will be unable to hurt Vesthon, so you will need to kill the associated Lich's/Casters arrayed in a semi-circle around the inactive Dracoliche. While dealing with them adds will be summoned/spawned by the Casters/Lich's. Once the Casters/Liches are dead Vesthon will become active and can be killed, if you are having trouble with adds you can kill them now without respawns. When you kill Vesthon, you will see this:

Vesthon Marijakin's corpse shouts 'No! Not yet! The lich is not yet bound to me! I cannot control it!' and then crumbles to the ground. As his lifeless head cracks against the ground, you see a dark orb roll from his hands and bounce across the ground towards the desecrated dragon bones. You see faint black wisps of smoke waft off of the orb towards the bones. As the vapor touches each bone they begin to quiver with unnatural life. It seems the ceremony was not entirely unsuccessful.'

The bones quiver and swirl through the air beginning to form the all too familiar shape of a draconic skeleton. The black wisps of smoke swirl around each bone enveloping the skeleton. The orb snakes up between the rib and neck bones and eventually comes to rest inside the skull of the abomination. An unfamiliar voice echoes through the caverns, 'I live once more! Feeble insects, feel the power of Oshiruk!'

The Dracoliche of Hsagra rears back as black fog swirls from its festering maw. The ground beneath its feet begins to crack and blacken, defiled by the mere touch of the undead monstrosity before you. You get the distinct feeling it's looking to take more then just your life.

At this point the Dracoliche of Hsagra will become active and you must kill it in order to loot the Dark Orb. Upon its death you will see the following:

The Dracoliche of Hsagra's corpse reels back staggering blindly from left to right. The bones begin to quiver violently for a moment and then bulk of the skeleton collapses in a cold heap of bones and blackened fog. Mysteriously the skull and the orb linger in the air momentarily. A deafening silence fills the cavern for what seems an eternity before the skull explodes in a torrent of energy and bone. You turn away for a moment stunned by the blast of energy. As you turn back towards the remains you notice the black orb rolling quietly between two fragments of bone on the silent floor of the necropolis.

  • Kill the Dracoliche of Hsagra (fight info needed).

  • Loot the Dark Orb (identifies as "Orshilak's [sic] Soul Stone"). A chest may spawn with additional loot. Bring the Dark Orb back to Lantaric`Dar.

Lantaric`Dar says 'It must be an object of considerable power to be able to imbue a mere mortal such as Vesthon with the power to control a dragon kin spirit. This orb must be destroyed, but I know not how that might be done. For now I entrust the orb to your care, and charge you with finding a way to destroy it. You must not fail ______. An artifact of that much evil potential must not be allowed to exist.'

Lantaric`Dar says 'The kin thank you for your efforts in saving the spirit of Hsagra. May Veeshan guide your path in the destruction of the orb.'

  • Lantaric`Dar gives you the orb back. Keep this orb if you plan to do your 2.0. It will be required in that quest.

    Through a Prism Darkly

  • Next head to the Temple of Solusek Ro.

    You say, 'Hail, Walthin Fireweaver'

Walthin Fireweaver says 'Good day to you! I am Walthin Fireweaver of the League of Antonican Bards. My friend Cryssia and I are here while we deal in [lambent stones] with the followers of Solusek Ro. If you are interested, Cryssia and I also deal in [lambent armor], the perfect armor for a bard of standing. I also dabble in some research from time to time. I'm a bit of a historian. I study the history of [dragons].'

    You say, 'Dragons?'

Walthin Fireweaver says 'Dragons are a fascinating species. I'm currently researching some rare breeds of dragons. I've only found vague references to something the dragons refer to as 'the outsiders'. Unfortunately the texts aren't any more specific then that, and I haven't been able to translate much of the text I've found. One particular [note] has me very puzzled.'

    You say, 'What note?'

Walthin Fireweaver says 'I was paging through one of the tomes in the temple library when a scrap of paper fell from between the pages. So far I've been unable to translate it, but I can tell it's not nearly as old as the tome it fell from. Someone must have left it there while they were studying dragons as well. It's very odd though, it looks as if it's a piece of a bigger text that was torn apart. Perhaps if I find the other pieces of the note it will become clearer. Take a look if you like, perhaps you can make something of it. If you're able to translate it I would be eternally grateful.'

  • There are different Faded Scraps of Parchment you get at random by following through Walthin's text. The finished note is as follows:

I have managed to construct the blade.
Unfortunately I found that the blade is only the
first step. For now the sword is quite useless to
me, as I do not have the necessary components
to create the focus gem for the hilt. For now I
leave it in the care of Vhalen. It's possible I
won't survive my journey. If I don't then
perhaps another troubadour will take up the task I
have failed. I can only hope that the records of
my journey survive to help lead those who follow
me. For now I struggle to find the method to
imbue the blade with the true draconic spirit. So
now I travel through the maws of dragons, May
    Veeshan guide my footsteps

The annals of skyshrine have proven most
useful. Most people know of the 4 basic
elemental dragons, fire, water, earth, air. What
most people don't know is that some dragons
embody the characteristics of the natural world
as well asthe higher elements. I have found
record of mountains dragons, plains dragons,
swamp dragons, and forest dragons of Norrath.
These dragons seem to tend to solitary life in the
environment they favor. These draggons often
take the form of a more mundane creature
native to their habitat, which accounts for their
perceived rarity. Perhaps that's what I need
    to create the focus crystal.

  • There are eight crystals total. Four are foraged in the Skyfire Mountains (Wind Dragon Crystal, Fire Dragon Crystal, Earth Dragon Crystal, and Ice Dragon Crystal), and four are looted from various dragons around Norrath, each of which can hit for 1900 and each of which has a minor debuff AE:

A Plains Dragon (Northern Karana): spawned when A Dire Griffon (location +1290, +1170) is at 80%, drops Plains Dragon Crystal

A Mountain Dragon (Stonebrunt Mountains): spawned when A Dire Panda (location -560, -1760) is at an unknown percentage, drops Mountain Dragon Crystal

A Forest Dragon (Jaggedpine Forest): spawned when A Dire Kodiak (location -1620, -1030) is at an unknown percentage, drops Forest Dragon Crystal

A Swamp Dragon (Swamp of No Hope): spawned when A Dire Leech (location +615, -1875) is at an unknown percentage, drops Swamp Dragon Crystal

Only 1 crystal is needed to hand in to continue the script to the next stage. (You'll receive a hidden flag that makes 'a cloaked figure' spawn in Kithicor Forest later).

Walthin Fireweaver says 'Well done ______. This is one of the eight dragon crystals needed to make the draconic prism. I've found some passages that explain how to make a prism stone using these dragon crystals. It's a little unclear exactly what is needed, but the texts mention that velium still holds some of the power of Veeshan. You'll also need a sister gem to fuse with the crystal. A (insert the different colors of diamonds for each one turned in) diamond of storms should complement the plains crystal nicely. The only part of the manuscript I can't seem to make out is a mention of Dragorn blood. I've never heard of such a creature before. I suppose it's possible I'm just mistranslating Dragon from the texts. Once you've collected them all bring them here. I'll continue searching for a way to create the draconic prism.'

Collect all 8 crystals and then combine these crystals using the following recipe. 1 x Enchanted Velium Bar + 1 x crystal + 1 x appropriate diamond + 1 x Dragorn Blood = prism. Click on the Prism links above if you need exact recipes. (No Fail jewel crafting combine).

  • The crystals, their diamond counterparts and the prisms they make are:

Plains Dragon Crystal - Gray Diamond of Storms = Plains Dragon Prism
Forest Dragon Crystal - Yellow Diamond of Valor = Forest Dragon Prism
Swamp Dragon Crystal - Green Diamond of Disease = Swamp Dragon Prism
Mountain Dragon Crystal - White Diamond of Justice = Mountain Dragon Prism
Wind Dragon Crystal - Cloudy Diamond of Air = White Dragon Prism
Fire Dragon Crystal - Red Diamond of Fire = Fire Dragon Prism
Earth Dragon Crystal - Brown Diamond of Earth = Earth Dragon Prism
Ice Dragon Crystal - Aqua Diamond of Water = Water Dragon Prism

After hailing him with all eight prisms in your inventory, Walthin Fireweaver directs you to recover the crest:

Walthin Fireweaver says '______! Thank Veeshan you're here! I discovered how to create the draconic prism! The secret has been here all along. One of the ancient crests of the temple was the key! It seems we are not the first bards to undertake the quest for the draconic prism. I'll explain later, but you must hurry, the crest has been stolen! Not a day ago it was here, so the thief can't have gotten far. You must find the thief and recover the crest ______!'

    Whaddaya want, a Metala?

  • Bring a mini-raid to Kithicor Forest..

You say, 'Hail, a cloaked figure'

a cloaked figure turns towards you. You get the distinct impression whom ever is under that cloak is sizing you up.

The figure begins to fade into the shadows before your very eyes. You notice movement out of the corner of your left eye.

  • 4 x "a malignant shadow" will spawn and attack, hitting for an average of 190. They have around 50k HPs. They respawn instantly for a while.

After you have killed some, "a shadow thief" will appear.

a shadow thief advances as shadows bend strangely around its body.

  • The shadow thief can hit for 105-1200, has around 130k HPs and flurries. The remaining malignant shadows despawn once you've killed it.

a shadow thief's corpse slumps to the ground in a mound of dark festering fabric. The rest of the shadows evaporate into the fog of the forest.

  • Loot a Crest of Rizlona, an 8-slot container and a Note from Metala, which reads:

You should find the crest inside the temple of Solusek Ro, I trust you will be discreet in taking it. We wouldn't want them coming to look for it. Not that they would dare enter the realm of pain in any case. Even still the bard that has been talking to Walthin has me worried. Should you have the opportunity, I know you have no qualms in dispensing the blessings of our mistress.
    -Metala

  • Combine the 8 prisms in the crest to craft a Draconic Prism. Take the note to Vhalen Nostrolo in Southern Karana.

Vhalen Nostrolo says 'No this can't be true! Metala must have been kidnapped and forced to sign this letter! You must find her and save her, _______! Please! Take this necklace; it was a gift she gave me on our anniversary long ago. Surely it will help her remember her true self and make her come to her senses.'

  • You receive Vhalen's Necklace. Go to the Plane of Torment and find Metala there as "a bruised woman." Give her the necklace.

a bruised woman 's eyebrows shift into the shadow of a quizzical expression as you show her the necklace. A flash of recognition crosses her face and she jerks back across the floor in horror. A screeching wail tears through your mind `You are a fool Vhalen! You send these peasants to do your dirty work, you never were much for getting your hands dirty! The path of pain is the only way to true power. I will never turn from it!'

You notice a distinct change in the air around you as something inside your packs grows hot and heavy. Black tendrils sprout from your pack as the words of Hsagra echo in your mind. Beware the orb!

Black ooze begins to float out from ______'s body and wrap around Metala's body as she twitches and spasms violently.

As you struggle to regain your balance and equilibrium you look on in horror as Metala's body begins to twitch and jerk. Bones snapping and sinew stretching. Her face seems to struggle against her bones as they contort into a horrific new visage of torment.

  • A Bruised Woman despawns and Metala Von Korach spawns in her place. Kill Metala.
Melees for 190 to 1080 with Flurries.
    Spell Effects:
Howl of Korach [PB AE: Chromatic (-160), AE Range: 200]
1: Decrease HP when cast by 500
    2: Silence
3: Increase Curse Counter by 9

Infection of Pain [Single: Disease (-400), Range: 300]
1: Decrease Hitpoints by 500 per tick
    2: Decrease Stats by 200
3: Increase Curse Counter by 18

Metala Von Korach's corpse stumbles as black blood floods from the wound at her side onto the floor beneath you. She falls to the ground and continues to twitch and jerk, causing splatters of her own black blood to smear across the floor. You gaze horrified at her gaping wound and realize there is a sword hilt lodged inside of her still warm corpse. For a moment you think the hilt is moving, but then struggle to keep from retching as you realize the body is filled with maggots.

  • Loot a Rusted Bile Etched Blade, a 2-slot container. Put the Draconic Prism in it and combine to craft the Prismatic Dragon Blade, a.k.a. bard epic 1.5., 5 AAs, and access to your epic 1.5 title, "Wyrmkin."

Bring a raid force back to Dragon Necropolis and zone in. On zoning in, Vesthon Marijakin will be back with some more guards (called what? fight info?).

Scattered around the Bones of Hsagra are 6 named mobs, which I'm listing in the order in which we killed them: Locis V`Sek`s lich, Xeegarn's lich, Amilia Verisue's lich, Ilishu Julque, Malikor Vikthule, and Jalor Silin. Each of these comes with 2 minions, named after the named they spawn with (e.g., Ilishu's minion). Kill each of the six named mobs first, then their minions (because they insta-spawn if you kill them before their master dies), then Vesthon Marijakin, and finally The Dracoliche of Hsagra.

Against my guild mate's 85 BL (with 3K+ AAs), most of the liches hit in the high 200s to the upper 300s, but Malikor Vikthule hit in the high 500s. All of the minions hit in the low 100s. Vesthon hit in the lower 200s. The Dracholiche hit in the lower 600s and DoTted in the low 300s.

By the time I (80 bard 847 AA), made it to the fight spot, my guild mate had already killed the first lich. From that point, the fight took 372 seconds and we dished out 1,127,770 dmg and took 177,703 (we each had a cleric mercenary - a J5 for the BL and a J1 for the bard). Vesthon took 245,167 dmg and the Dracoliche took 244,289. (I loves me some GamParse!)

    Edit:

Upon reading additional comments, I've discovered that the BL had already killed 2 of the liches by the time I got to the fight spot. The other one I missed was Puella Opalis' Lich.

some fight info that I feel is worth being noted (as it is skipped over in the above walkthrough)

the second time you face vesthon in Dragon Necropolis, he spawns very close to where you find Tarn Macklin. he spawns as soon as the bard zones in.

the fight is timed. you have to kill vesthon in a certain amount of time, or else Hsagra's bones will disappear, and you will have to redo the event. in front of Vesthon (and circling around Hsagra's remains) are a group of liches, and their minions. the minions instantly respawn when you kill them, so you need to kill the corresponding liche so that all of said liche's minions will die with it.

once vesthon is dead, Hsagra spawns, and it's pretty much a straight fight. during my parse I found that the Dracholiche of Hsagra had 247k hp, vesthon had roughly 250k hp, and all of the liche's had between 70k - 80k hp. the minion's, however, somehow had anywhere from 5k to 90k hp (although this information isn't pertinent, considering killing the minion's is futile).

I hope this helps. I had to do the event twice, because I lacked this information, and I ran out of time. if you do lose, have the bard camp out, and once everyone is ready, have him log back in and the event will restart.

I can confirm that the HP you have to get the dire mobs to in order to spawn the various dragons is 80% for each of them except for the swamp dragon, which spawned (for me) at 75%.

Ok I have some finer points to touch base on here. I thank the previous posters for there info as I got my epic 1.5 lastnight.

    1. Event 1 - Hsagra's Shade:

When Vesthon spawns do not worry about anything else and kill him. Its a timed event and if you dont take him down fast enough he will despawn. By reading these boards it seemed to me that if Vesthon despawned you won. There is a differance between his despawning and being killed. You need to kill him fast enough, if you dont you wont get the skeleton dragon to spawn which drops the piece you need.

    2. Event 2 - Dracholiche of Hsagra

Yet again another timed event. Focus all dps on the 7 liches in a circle in front of the slanted platform. Forget about everything else... if these do not die fast enough the event totally despawns. When you kill these 7 then the mob spawns that you need to loot from.

I had to do both event over about 4 times each to know this, so i hope this will help the rest of you out...GL!

    the solution to this was:

    "This is Senior GM Zekil.

I went ahead and placed the Blackened Dragon Bone which is the item you receive from this event in your inventory. There is a known issue with this event. You can now proceed to the next step in the quest. I apologize for any inconvenience this issue has caused and good luck to you!

If you need assistance in the future with another issue, please be sure to petition again. To help us resolve your issue faster, please provide as much detail as possible about what happened. Include any character, item, or quest NPC names and the date that it happened."

and of course there was no such thing in my inventory. so off to petition again )

These are the names and number of minions that I saw while waiting for my friends to come give me a hand.

    Vesthon Marijakin
    Malikor Vikthule + 2 minions
Puella Opalis' Lich + 2 minions
    Jalor Silin + 2 minions
    Illishu Julque + 3 minions
    Locis V'Sek's Lich + 2 minions
    Xeegarn's Lich + 2 minions
    Amilia Verisue's Lich + 4 minions

Note that the amount of minions change, once Puella Opalis had 4 minions, then Locis V'Sek had 4 minions, but what is shown here is was was on track the 3rd time I started the event. I was just bored waiting for friends and counting the mobs without track (I forgot I had it =P). So the number of minions change, along with who has whatever number of minions. There was never any less than 2 minions per person.

This epic is extremely easy... so far atleast... Both of the DN fights were 1 grouped consisting of 82 zerker 430ish aa 18.6k hp unbuff then my box 73 bard about 70 aa then an 81 mage 81 rogue 80 druid (mage rogue and druid mostly baz geared) then an 82 cleric merc... first fight was very easy i tanked the named man with zerker and mage handled the adds second fight was VERY easy once i figured out how to do it lol.... i kited all of the minions with my bard while i tanked and killed the summoners mage and rogue assisted zerker nothing else has been tougher than just boxing my zerker and bard some boring farming.... still have to go to kith and then the final fight... but those fights both look very easy

finally got my 1.5 (woot), here's what i did for the fights:

for DN1, i had a raid force. i decided to have the lvl 80 warrior tank the three zombies, while the MA took on Vesthon. we beat that and then killed the draconic abomination. it wasn't hard with a raid force of 18.. it was trivial.

for DN2, the same raid force wiped, twice. first time, someone was too near the minions when i camped back in, so everybody died. the second time, we tried having two warriors go in and area taunt all of the minions, and that worked for about 10 seconds before heal aggro mixed up the aggro. this is definitely the toughest part of the quest.

i went back two days later with a group of 6: 2 lvl 75 shammies, 1 78 cleric, 1 80 mage, 1 80 warrior, and myself, 75 bard. i told them to stick to HoTs and promised renewals. we took out the spiders, then i sang Kazumi's and ran in and aggroed all of the minions. my lineup was zuriki's, largo's melodic binding, shield of songs and erollisi's cantata. this worked fairly well for keeping aggro.
i kited the pack between the pile of bones/ramp, and the dragon ruins a little to the east of the fight point. i had the warrior and the mage work on pulling the liches one by one to the group which was a little northwest of the ramp. this worked well, but by the time Vesthon went active, everyone was down on mana. we worked through both him and the dragon and finally won - it was a long fight.
i'd recommend taking more DPS with you if you use this setup. the three healers ended up being vital, as we didn't have much in the DPS department.

the next day i did Kithicor with myself, the same cleric and mage, and a 75 shammy. it was easy, i sang zuriki's to slow all of the shadows and tanked them as best i could. eventually the shadow thief popped. he's not much harder, just watch your HP and be ready to mez any shadows that aggro the healers.

for Metala, i had the same group plus a 71 rogue and a 75 pally. we kept the healers behind the wall. Infusion resisted the silence maybe 30% of the time, so i would recommend when you get the chance, sing one of your songs without a /melody, as even when silenced the song will keep playing. the fight took about five minutes, and i managed to use all of my discs/AAs.

thanks to ALL of the posters on this page, every ounce of information was invaluable. thanks to Killer Bixies and associated friends for the help!

For the first raid part in DN I had some trouble quad boxing. Being on combine server we don't have all the toys you guys got. My tank is a bit lacking. Anyhow, I had to improvise. Dps'n the first guy Vesthon Marijakin wasn't a problem. However, Vesthons Draconic Abomination is a real ***** when you have those undead in camp with ya. When he becomes Vesthons Draconic Abomination you have like an hour to kill him and he corpse camps. So I camped all my guys out and fd'd the tank. Camped right back in, and the undead guys were gone. All the others didn't bother me so I didn't bother them. Easy kill after that. My shammy ended up on rampage, but what could I do? Damage shields are really helpful here, especially both warmarch and veeshan. He ae rampages once in awhile and the ds's on everyone else is extra dps.

BTW, I also did the second part. Just needed someone to kite for me while I killed off the named one at a time. I tried it by myself but I was a bit lacking in the dps department because I was so focused on training stuff around with the bard. So a partner is required for this, best bribe one from general channel. It's hard work to keep the mobs from leashing. Best idea is to circle the ramp and named tightly. Before you do it I would suggest doing DA with bard song and give person sloth so they get ahead enough so they can train right over top of ya. Only use HoT. If you can't keep up with HoT use an aa heal if you got it. Complete heal/instant heal are last option.

    Heya,

I forgot to do a write up about the most important step - Dragon Necropolis (DN) event 2! DN #2 is definitely the most difficult step in this entire chain. All of the other fights are 1 groupable or less. Metala, the thief, the 4 dragons, and the merchants can all be done with 4-6 (just need dps), but the DN event 2 is still going to take some effort. Treat DN event 1 and 2 as just 2 parts of one trip. Get your groups together and have them head to head to DN. If you are smart, you will put a wizzie in siren's grotto to evac folks through to the other side. I actually had a boxed wizzie that camped there for weeks in preparation for this event :).

    1) Event 1 - Hsagra's Shade

The shade is in the far east room. It's a purplish crystal dragon that spawns when the bard enters that room. Have your group clear all the rat men and do the beetle trap too. These are trivial. Set up the group in the east most nook in the room. It's pretty obvious. Turn in the bones. Slightly to the west of the shade dragon, 3 zombies and vesthon will spawn. For now, ignore the other 7 mobs by the door. Pull to your group. Have the main tank hold Vesthon and kill the 3 zombies. Then kill Vesthon. He will despawn and a skeleton dragon pops up. Kill him. Nothing special. This part is one groupable. But honestly, there's no reason to bring a group here unless you have 2 groups to do the next step.

Look the bone. Then use a gate potion or wizzie translocate back to wakening lands. Turn in, gate back, port to cobalt scar, and run back. This takes about 10-15 minutes. So, while you are doing all that, have your raid clear the 7 mobs that popped in the doorway and fight to event #2. Give them instructions while you're moving. The loc is below, but it's on the east side of the big wall, sort of in the north side of the zone.

    2) Dragon Necropolis - Event 2 - Dracholiche of Hsagra

This is the event that everyone talks about for the Bard epic. I had heard sooo many horror stories about this event that I was terrified. But, it's not so bad. Just plan ahead and you'll be fine. This event has 7 liches in a circle in front of the slanted platform (which is where Vesthon spawns). Each liche owns 2 minions. Here's the key. In your raid, bring at least 2 good tanks. Have them do nothing but run around getting agro on all 14 minions. Assign one main assist to go from lich to lich. The liches will not attack until you start really damaging them, so just do one at a time. Each dead lich drops 2 of the minions. If your raid can survive long enough to kill the first 2 or 3 lichs then you will win this fight. The key is those first few minutes.

Note - the whole event is triggered when you zone in. So, have them be ready. The minions are weak, but there are 14 of them and they will eat the squishy clerics/casters if you don't plan ahead. Vesthon and the dracholiche are easy if you were strong enough to survive the 14 minions and 7 liches. So, plan ahead with your tanks, and it'll go smooth.

What raid/group size? We had 11 - most were level 80 - no deaths. The key here is 2 good tanks, 2 clerics, and some dps. If the tanks can lock onto those 14 minions, and you have a good main assister on the liches, you will most likley succeed. Note, our tanks were pretty awesome, so, this might be harder than what I saw. With the tanks we had, it might have been possible with 6 - pally, war, cleric, cleric, bard, 1 dps for main assist. The problem with that make up is that you really don't much left for dps. It might have been doable, but I expect it would have been MUCH harder and I wouldn't want to risk wasting friends time since DN is WAY out of the way.

Well, that's the big one. It's not as bad as it used to be, with the extra 15 levels :). I was ecstatic when we beat the dracholiche, because I knew the rest was easy.

I want to send a mega-kudos and thanks out to all the bards who posted their help on these and other forums. I read them all. So, if it was you, then you have my thanks and all my posts are a tribute to those who have walked this path before.

    Good luck bards!

Necessity - thanks SO much for this, it is clear, concise, and informative. you give us hit info, size of fight/raid info, and you make it seem way, way easier. maybe i'll get my guild to help me with the DN fights this weekend (i've been too scared to try lest we fail). but you have one more small, minor duty:
can you give us info on the four dragons ? did you one group those, too ? which one did you find the toughest ?
you've given all of the other info and the best part is, your informative posts are at the top of the board for this quest, so everyone sees your info first. please go the one final step!

    the bard community thanks you!!

Edit: i answered my own question!
so the four dragons. they each hit up to 1500. they rampage and enrage and they have a good amount of hitpoints. two of them are one-groupable, while two are not, but it greatly depends on what kind of playters you have. my one group consisted of a 2300ac, 14k SK, 10k shammy, 10k bard (me), 8k cleric, and some guildies to round it out. all of us are lvl 75.
the mountain dragon and swamp dragon are simple stuff. just keep the group healed with the cleric, keep the dragon slowed, and pound away on them.
the plains dragon was the toughest, he had a nasty AE stun that was nigh unresistable, and some stupid npc rogues kept aggroing the fight from their house. took us two tries with 9 folks to beat it.
the forest dragon was not difficult, just keep the groups healed and keep the DPS up. he'll strip everybody's buffs so a bard in each group providing haste helps.

    Heya,

I just got my 1.5!!! Wooters!

So, now I can finish my input to this great compendium :) in the hopes that it will help others. This post has the final 3 battles which are pretty trivial at this point.

    1) Kithicor Forest.

NOTE - Do not start this part until you have ALL 8 gems AND the orb from the Dragon Necropolis event #2. When you zone into Kithicor Forest, the Cloaked Figure will spawn in about the middle of the zone. He will work his way to the N-S road in the middle-west. He will then follow the road and make his way to Highhold Keep (HK). He won't attack and is not attackable.

Take your group near the zone out to HK. Hail him when he is somewhat close to your group and he will despawn. About 15 seconds later, the 4 cloaked figures will spawn. They always run initially to the bard. They hit for about 100-200 and have a fair amount of hps for something that weak. We killed about 7-10. It doesn't matter who gets the last blow. Just plow through 'em. Eventually, the thief will come - plow him too. Thief hits maybe 1200, but it didn't feel that hard. We had 6 level 80s (3 were boxes), but I expect you could probably do it with 3 if you were more patient. Probably need at least 3 for dps alone. The whole fight took like 5 mins.

    2) Metala in Torment

WARNING - The guide below is WRONG. Metala is in the bridge near pos 200, pos 600, NOT neg 840, neg 219. Once you get on the first bridges, take all rights. She is in the L shaped bridge in the NW area of the map.

Clear all the trivial stuff in the room. Set your healer up behind the wall (it's obvious where). SNEAK and give her the necklace. She will silence the group with line of sight and it's pretty much nonstop. Max resists made almost no difference. Silence prevents discs and weapon procs - less dps and more agro trouble. Melee her down. We had the same 6 for this fight. It took about 5-10 mins to kill her - she hits pretty soft, but has a decent dot and the silence and a bazillion hps. It might be possible to do with 4 if you have good melee dps and a good tank.

    The 8 Diamonds...

    Heya,

Just a quick update. I finished all of the 8 'diamonds of' steps and got my 8 prisms. I have to admit, it's a very confusing process. Fortunately, there are some good write ups below (https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=2951;mid=11007171306332;page=1;howmany=50#m11007171306332), especially if you skip to the bottom of this thread. Here are some notes that might help.

    1) You need 8 dragorn bloods. Get them in Noble's causeway, near the Wall of Slaughter zone in. Also, if you send an /ooc in WoS, folks will often help you out. Also, buy 8 Enchanted Velium Bars in the bazaar.

    2) The 8 'diamond of XYZ' are created by casting a spell. There are 8 different spells, one for each diamond, cast by different classes with names like, 'Imbue Valor', 'Imbue Storms', ... An enchanter can cast all 8 at around level 63.

    a) If you have none of them, here's what you need to do. Buy 8 copies of 'Imbue Diamond' at one of the Freeport spell merchants. Buy 16 'Raw Diamonds' in PoK.

    b) For each spell, you need 2 copies of each special reagent (air/earth/fire/water mephit blood, bubonian blood, metallic liquid, etched alkaline stone, and storm mephit blood). Most likely, you can buy all but the etched alkaline stones. That comes from worms in the plane of Justice. Easy kill, but an uncommon drop, so takes about an hour.

    c) You can make all 8 spells for your friendly enchanter. Combine 'Imbue Diamond' with a 'Raw Diamond' and the special reagent in a jewelry kit. You will get 'Imbue XYZ'. Do this for all 8 spells. Then, give the 8 spells to your chanter, plus the 8 Raw Diamonds and the 8 special ingredients. He can mem the spell and cast and give you the 8 'diamond of XYZ'.

    3) You can give each of the 'Diamond of XYZ' to Walthin before you combine. He gives you text. Not required, but better safe than sorry.

    4) Use a planar jewelry kit to combine the diamond of XYZ, Dragon Crystal, Dragorn Blood, and Enchanted Velium. You will get a prism. Do that for all 8.

    5) Give the prisms to Walthin also, he gives you more text and tells you to go to Kithicor. I believe this step is a required character flag.

NOTE - If you go to Kithicor, you MUST have the orb from the 2nd Dragon Necropolis fight. You cannot do that step out of order.

    Wyndaria,
    Nameless.

    Tarn Macklin

    Heya,

I'm working on my epic 1.5, so just wanted to confirm or correct info as I go. I did the 1.5 prequest, and that worked like a charm. I just did the mercenary excavator steps.

For that, we killed mercenary excavator's from the 3 bunches up near the front of the zone. I believe there is a 4th deeper in, but I'm not sure if it was up all the time. Eventually, Excavator Quellin will respawn in place of one of the mercenary's. We killed a couple of them and just kept farming. When we logged in the next morning, and ran around, I found Tarn Macklin on track. He was on the other side of the big middle section, in a little room. He had 3 mercenary Guards with him.

These are all trivial mobs. Green to us. My wife (Cleric 80 with 1.5 epic), and me (Bard 80 no raid gear, 13k hps with just temerity) were pulling 3 or 4 of the mercenaries at a time. The Guards were a bit tougher and we only did 2 of those at a time and then pulled Tarn single. Probably we could have taken the 3 guards and Tarn at the same time, but they hit harder than I wanted for that. A really well equipped bard (ie, not me) might could possibly solo Tarn, but he does summon. His Guards summon too. Excavator Quellin summons also and should be solo'able by many bards. The regular's do not.

Killed Tarn, got the Cracked Dragon Bone.

NOTE - While doing this, take the time to run around the zone and search all the little piles of dragon bones. Little bags spawn on the ground. You need the 3 bones for your next step anyway, so get it while you're here. You will see other bones, like 'A Dragon Rib Bone' that are NOT what you want. We got 2 of the 3 from the ground and 1 from one of the constructs that occasionally spawns.

Have fun. I will report as I continue on the quest. I have found other peoples posts invaluable, so I hope this helps you.

    Wyndaria,

Ok I spent about an hour this morning going through alla, eqdiva, concert halls, even google searchings. I am up to him in my epic, did everything before hand. Now I hail him, say dragons, say note and get the first scrap of parchment. How do I get the remaining pieces? it says follow his text ... well follow WHAT text? if you hail you get same deal if you say dragons he spams but if you resay note, nothing. I tried every word he says, different who and what and how and ? combos and nothing has made him produce the other scraps of parchments. Any help on this?

if you have your 1.5 when you do the 2.0 bard epic do you lose your 1.5? or do you have both epics?

The 1.5 turns into the 2.0, the 1.5 is basically just an intermediary on the way to the 2.0. I believe this is for all 2.0 epics, though I really wish you could do the warrior epic twice and get a blue sword the second time around.

Sorry, saw the question and it was dated this year... for all those who say "DUH!"

    Dragon Liche Fight:

Ok, 3 humans spawn, and 4 skeletons.

You must kill all the Lich skeletons and 3 humans or the minions will KEEP popping.
Once all the Masters are dead, (4 skellys, 3 humans), kill off the rest of the minions, and Veshthon will attack. Once you kill Veshthon. The big pile of bones turns into the Dragonliche.
He hits hard and has two AE's.
    Venom of Veshon (400)
    and
    Tendrils of Oshiruk (500)

No idea how hard he hits, cuz he died too fast, and there were more people hitting on him then he could get hits in Lol.

All in all he was pretty easy.

Had 18 people. Avg. lvl 75. Most geared pretty well.
    Good luck guys :)

Can all these encounters be grouped now? And if not, what do you think would be the bare minimum that it would take for most of these encounters? Thank you!!

I just did the Dragon Necropolis fight with all the Lich's with 5 toons between 2 peeps. The trick was we had the War go in and agro all with a HoT on and Druid Skin of Reptial. War ran in to first Lich and stared dps. This got agro on all pets also. He aoe agroed and hit riptose disc. We had the Bst assist for dps and war basicly aoe agroed every time it looked like some pets were lossing agro on him. We used CH sparingly and kept HoT on War. killed all 7 Lich Human / skelly moving one to the next. Keep an eye on spider pops as they interupt spells if you dont pay attention. Vesthon will go active on death of last one. Lots hp but not to bad dps from him. When Dracoliche of Hsagra pops watch HP and mana as he aoe dots/ Ramps. We kept grp heals running from Druid and clr and not an issue. Definatly less HP on Dracoliche of Hsagra than Vesthon. Yes Dracoliche of Hsagra is belly caster.. with a very small spell casting box.

Hope this helps, not gona bother with gear it was abilities and spells + dps that got us thro this with so few toons.

I did this fight via 5 box. The warrior was anguish equipped, but other than that everyone was using tier 2 armor. The group setup is as follows, warrior, cleric, shaman, wizard, wizard.

It took me a few tries to formulate a good strategy, but here's what got me the victory.

I moved the entire group to the closest side, out of aggro range. Bard zoned/camped in, and started with a h.o.t on warrior, rushed using shocking defense discipline (mainly for aggro purposes, and you can stun the low level mobs). The main slow was lingering sloth which was on warrior, while shaman slowed every other mob with turgurs (not a single resist). Immediately after shocking defense was off of the warrior, I activated defensive discipline and continued to kill, moving from lich to lich... ignore their pets as they will just respawn upon kill. This was a good 10- 15 minutes of killing, and after all of the liches are finished, you may proceed to kill Veshton. After veshton dies the draco spawns... he has about half the HP as veshton, and you can only cast on him if youre within melee range... which is part of the problem because he has AE rampage. I chose to burn the final mob down by placing the wizzies under him, activating prolonged destruction and burning him down fairly quickly. It took me a few attempts to get this down with only 5 people... the fight does last a good 20 minutes with this #, and as long as the warrior can hold aggro, the fight gets much easier after each lich you kill.

I hope this writeup helps someone, I had to figure this all out the hard way. I see absolutely no problem with 1 group doing this fight.... it's actually a little bit of a challenge :)
