Enrid Ebonclaw is a named drake found to the left of the entrance to Veeshan's Peak, at +2365, +3720. He is surrounded by Servants of the Peak (hard-hitting wyverns) that are social and KoS, and one of whom can see through invisibility and Shroud of Stealth. Once the wyverns are cleared:

You say, 'Hail, Enrid Ebonclaw'

Enrid Ebonclaw says 'Thank you for coming to my aid, though I'm sure I could have made it alive. I'm smarter than most would admit. I even committed a crime against my master by questioning one of his motives and the punishment for that is death. Yet, here I stand! Those wyverns have kept me asleep and were trying to turn me to ash. Since you are here, I will finish what I started. I have a secret so magnificent and so powerful that the Ring of Scale will be extremely angry with me. I will exact my revenge! Now, would you [like to know] how to overcome the wards on the passage to Veeshan's Peak?'

You say, 'I would like to know.'

Enrid Ebonclaw says 'You adventurers are all alike. The dragons erected a new ward on the door to only allow the Ring of Scale and its followers entry. They changed it because of greedy adventurers like you! As a servant to the Ring of Scale, I learned how to create a cipher to enter the peak -- one that overcomes the new ward that was erected. This cipher requires the original key or the essence of the original key. The original key was very magical and powerful, for it encompassed the strength of this continent. If you have the original key, you will need to modify it by combining it with this powerless cipher and the blood of a brood dragon. If you do not have the original key, however, you will need to capture the strength of this continent, the essence of the original key. [continue]'

You receive a Drained Cipher of Veeshan, a 4-slot GIANT container.

You say, 'Continue.'

Enrid Ebonclaw says 'Combine the three major essences with that same dragon blood inside the powerless cipher to create the Cipher of Veeshan, your means of entering the peak. Also, you may have the original key's essence bound to your soul, so let me know if you would like me to [recreate the key].'

You say, 'Recreate the key.'

If you do not have the old key either on your /keyring or in your possession, you see this:

Enrid Ebonclaw searches deeply into your soul and says, 'I am sorry mortal, I cannot recreate the key at this time.'

If you do have the old key on your /keyring, you see this instead:

Enrid Ebonclaw searches deeply into your soul and as a spell is cast on you, it says 'Here mortal, here is the physical manifestation of your key. Create the new cipher and exact revenge for me!'

You receive a new Key of Veeshan.

Now go assemble a raid force and find Dry Sapara, a red-con indifferent dragon guarding the entrance to Veeshan's Peak.

You say, 'Hail, Dry Sapara'

Dry Sapara says 'What brings you here mortal? I am the new guardian of Veeshan's Peak and I will not allow you to pass. And even if I did, the ward on the door will not allow you to pass. Though, you do seem like the resourceful type and I do have something that I need researched. Would you be [willing to do a task] for me?'

You say, 'I am willing to do a task'

Dry Sapara says 'Very well. Veeshan's Peak is a very old sanctuary of the Ring of Scale. This monument has been here longer than you and I have lived and will remain here past you and your lifetime. There is very little known about the monument itself though. I've been told that Veeshan's Peak was created by a powerful dragon, one who followed Jaled Dar. His name was Suled Dar and he created this place by forging the magma and stone with his will. It was said that Suled Dar fought alongside Jaled Dar against the iksars and fell to their ruler. It was also said that through his strength of mind and skill with magic, he destroyed one of the greatest iksar outposts by shaking the ground and creating a pit that swallowed the outpost whole. That type of magic is unimaginable these days, yet I yearn for that knowledge -- the power to shape a structure with my own mind out of the earth. [continue]'

You say, 'continue'

Dry Sapara says 'It was said that when Suled Dar was slain, he wasn't laid to rest in the Necropolis like other dragons. He chose to be buried here, in the Skyfire Mountains where he built his masterpiece. He created four globes here in the mountains, which I do not know the function for, though I have studied them intensely. They have a mystical power that I'm not certain of, but I have my own beliefs about them. Here is what I would like you to do . . . I would like you to gather a small force and activate the four globes. I will try to cast a spell that fills the globes with energy and we will try to figure out this mystery. Come back to me when you are [ready] and we will begin this experiment.'

You say, 'I am ready.'

Dry Sapara says, 'Very well. You and your companions need to activate the globes while I attempt to channel energy into them. Go and do this now.'

There are four dragon orbs located around Skyfire, at -2165, -3550; -3275, +2765; +3015, -3335; +2360, +2970 (top of Veeshan's Peak). Send four people off to click each one simultaneously. You have some time to do the clicks so the timing doesn't have to be perfect

Dry Sapara shouts, 'The globes are absorbing my energy! I do not know what will happen next, so be prepared!'

As the energy pours into the globes, a flash of light occurs. There is now a beam of light pointing to the center of this mountain range. You should investigate.

Suled Dar's Shade says 'You have awakened something which you should not have, fool!'

You have spawned Suled Dar's Shade. It sees through invisibility and Shroud of Stealth, casts Infinite Mass, Shock Breath, and Wave of Force (a powerful knockback), hits for around 2400 and AE rampages. Once it's dead, you loot A Worn and Ancient Book from six of "an ancient chest" that spawn (a la Lost Dungeons adventures). Give the book to Dry Sapara:

Dry Sapara intensely stares at the book and says 'This tome will teach me much of this ancient place. Now, I am in your debt. What is it that you want from me?' Dry Sapara then invades your mind and says, 'Ah yes, you want a portion of my blood. Fine Outlander, take it and leave me to read this ancient book.'

You receive some Brood Dragon Blood. Combine this in your Drained Cipher of Veeshan with either the Key to Veeshan or all three of Essence of Howling Stones (dropped from random mobs in the east and south wings in Charasis, a.k.a. Howling Stones), Essence of Chardok (dropped by Echo of Chardok in Chardok), and Essence of Old Sebilis (dropped by Echo of Sebilis in Old Sebilis) to craft a Cipher of Veeshan, which is both an augmentation and the new key to Veeshan's Peak. Once you enter Veeshan's Peak, it will be added to your /keyring. Keyring text: Cipher of Veeshan. Note: the Cipher made with the old key is +30 to HP/MANA/END, while the one made with the essences is +15 to these stats.

What is the purpose of this quest?

I can already enter Veeshan's peak without a key due to my level, but have been doing key achievements, just for the achievement.

I did the old quest to obtain the old Key of Veeshan and received that achievement, but there is also an achievement for doing the cipher.

If the old key works, why do the cipher? Is this just so large groups can all get keyed faster? I noticed that Enrid Ebonclaw wouldn't talk to me until after I got the first key, which would seem to mean you can't do this quest unless you've gotten the old key.

The annoying part for me now is that in order to get the achievement for the cipher I'm going to have to find four ppl to do the globes, and no one really has any interest in doing this these days.

The quest description says this quest is appropriate for a solo level 65, yet at one point four globes have to be clicked simultaneously and a raid mob has to be killed.

Yes, it's huge. Best to keep your back towards the nearest zone wall than the lava. He will fling you far enough to clear you off agro, then start grabbing others. With your back to the zone wall/rocks, you can at least hit something, and have a good chance to get summoned back.

lvl to enter
# Sep 19 2006 at 11:00 AM Rating: Decent
What is the level cup to enter this zone ?
It used to be 60 in the god old days, now its look they raised it to 65.

Any one can verify that or tell us if there is a way to a 60 lvl toon to get in VP

Thanks

Is it just me who mis-understands this quest:

My question is: Every person who wants to enter VP has to get a raid force together to kill Sul's Shade? And this will only key in ONE person?

Been away from the game for a little while but remember the hassles I went through just to get this key, and now you have to do the above?

Second question: Is the stuff inside VP worth it now?

Seems to me like they have killed off an almost dead-zone to completely dead now....

Killing Suled Dar's Shade spawns 6 chests with 8 books each so up to 48 people can get credit for the kill.

The answer to teh second question is based on what is available to you, but most likely the answer is no. The only reason I can think of is for the 30/30/30 aug that can go in ANY slot. It's a good thing for type 12 slots in cultural if you can't do tipt or get DoDh stones.

The aug is pretty redundant these days. However VP is still useful. Some reasons are:

- A primary 100ac non-dps item (for non-dps tanking, for several raid encounters)
- Numerous clickies
- Nostalgia/fun (imo very important!)
- Fabled mobs.
Key doesn't work
# Mar 06 2006 at 7:06 PM Rating: Default
This is unreal, I got the Cipher of Veeshan and I cannot get into Veeshan's Peak. I tried holding it on my cursor, auged, unauged, and with the auged piece in my inventory and nothing. All I ever get is a "It is locked and you're not holding the key message" while clicking on the seal behing Dry Sapara. SoE totally screwed up this quest. I wished I knew about this before I even attempted to do this stupid thing. Hours of hard work getting the medallions went down the drain. Thanks SoE.

Hold the key on your cursor.
Instead of clicking on the door, or clicking the key on it, face the door and hit the U button.
It should then let you in and add it to keyring.

I just removed my aug, placed it on my cursor while standing in front of the door to VP and clicked U and I still get the locked message. I filed a bug report as well as petitioned about it earlier and the GM's say they are working on the problem.

If a person starts and completes the old key to VP then how can they start the new key quest and receive the +30HP/Mana/End Cipher instead of the +15HP/Mana/End?

Would they have to perhaps click on the VP entry and have it partial flagged in some way?

Thanks

Enrid Ebonclaw with out a raid
# Dec 27 2004 at 8:50 PM Rating: Excellent
If you need to get the Drained Cipher of Veeshan 4-slot container but do not have the forces or desire to kill all 5 Servants of the Peak who hit for 800-900's. Then here is a way for you;

Key facts on the Servants of the Peak.
- Only one can see through invis
- They are all on a tether, meaning they will only go so far before being warped back to spawn point.
- They run at just under sow speed
- Their agro range is not that far, you can stand on the ridge just south of them with out agro.

Key facts on Enrid Ebonclaw
- He does NOT see invis
- He has a small hit/responce box so to talk to him you need to snuggle close.
- he can not be pulled and will summon.
- Ket phrase for box is "like to know"

Preperation,
Beg barrow or steal a Bard with DA song.
Get everyone freash SOE
Run everyone to the ridge just south of Enrid Ebonclaw.
have everyone may buttons for all the phrases "I wish to know", "continue", and "recreate the key"

Tactic, ( if you call it that)
Target Enrid Ebonclaw first. Group with the bard have him sing DA song. Then everyone run into the group punch their buttons and only run out when they see a white crystal on their pointer. Run south or east hard and fast until you hit the peak gate building (east) or the big river (south) at that time the mobs will have warped back and lost agro.

Next group.

You get like 48 Books(not 100% sure its 48 could be higher or lower).
Having the old key complaints.
# Sep 06 2004 at 10:06 PM Rating: Decent
It seems to me that the people complaining about the mostly wasted effort of obtaining the first key have a legitimate complaint. 95% of the first key was a solo effort and quite time consuming. HOWEVER, the implications that there is any similarity between getting the old key and getting any POP flag you care to name is ridiculous. 95% of the requirement to get the key is is time and effort. 95% of the requirement to get a pop flag is friends or being in the right guild. I would have no problem people being allowed into the plane of earth simply by holding a bottle of ale. It makes as much sence as the "friends" requirement. If you can hunt in PoE successfully, you should be allowed to hunt in PoE.

RE: Having the old key complaints.
# Oct 22 2004 at 11:59 AM Rating: Decent
I fully agree, and applaud you on the statement. While part of both keys did/does require a raid force, the differences between flagged for the EP's and VP is tremendous, one raid against a not so difficult target, Suled Dar's Shade ((It's really a DPS, ************************* fight, as I see it)) or multiple flagging raids, preflags for the fights ((Hedge, Carprin, HoH Trials, Agnarr Key)).

Adding in a quest for EP access that took incredulous amounts of time and was geared toward those with the ability to hunt in EP would be a great balancing act in Norrath between the casual player who must then invest ungodly amounts of time in a long and difficult quest, versus the raider, who will be doing the much harder fights and need more raids, but will spend less actual time directly to obtain access.

Question
# Aug 20 2004 at 12:36 PM Rating: Good
My only question regarding the new key quest is how can you tell if someone already spawned Sulad Dar recently in the last 24 hours? It is to my understanding that if someone activated Sulad Dar, it takes 24 hours for the event to refresh. Is there anyway to tell if someone did that before...for example a pick up was forming?
RE: Question
# Sep 08 2004 at 9:01 AM Rating: Excellent
At any time you can go to the globes in SF and click them. If the message says it's drained, then the lockout timer is still on. If it says something about the click working, but nothing happening, then the event is good to go. (sorry for not having specific in game text)

Combine in Drained Cipher of Veeshan:

OK this says that you need the faction hit in the quest. Can any one confirm or disprove this? Also would like to know what faction hits you get when the shade is killed if any one has that information.

Kinda funny since then.

I would have liked them to leave the old and add the new quest.

Some of your suggestions have become more difficult (if they could even be called that - lol) than recent years entrance qualifications of simply entering if you are of a certain level.

Question becomes ... did you become part of the dev team and make them "worser"?
(You certainly exhibit the talent)

Thats funny I seem to remember having to kill Suled Dar's Shade in SF to get into VP now....but your right I could have just walked right up and looted the blood I can't remember know. Oh yeah I remember I still did the old quest so I could get the better aug and I didn't spend 100+hrs. Sounds like somebodys jealous! Its funny too I don't seem to remember seeing a message last time I zoned into Plane of Time; "You feel yourself welling up with pride having looted more then 1pp you are now able to access the Plane of Time."
I hope one day everyone will have FUN (it is a game) like they're supposed to and realize things change with the times. I mean who wants to go around fighting outdated mobs in old zones with crap loot. I for one am glad they gave VP a fresh key quest and mob/loot base. But anyway I would assume you've killed Suled dars shade and entered VP to see the mobs of ppl with ale still on their cursors sitting around drunk, and all their nice shiny new VP loot...

What a load of crap, I got my first key by myself except the Trakanon tooth. Now I have to mooch off a raid for a *chance* to get keyed. So much for soloing key parts like the old quest, you get screwed no matter if you did it before or not because if you aren't in a guild you have to cling onto someone else for pity.

If you were to read this a little closer, you should get Trak. Completing the first Key rather than doing the alternate route gives you a higher auged key in return.

I for one am glad they made it more difficult. This is now an elemtal type zone, not a kunark based one. There is much more work required to get into PoP zones than there is to get into VP. Just be glad that SoE gave everyone a better chance of getting into an Ele type zone exp/loot wise without having to wait on flag raids and what not.

The worst part is Sony has no business ruining VP. Yeah, I said RUINING. Sony's designers are terrible. They can't do anything right, atleast I haven't been impressed by Luclin/LOY/GOD/LDON. VP was made by when the people working on the game were actually good at making zones, and balancing content. Sony is terrible, they release an expansion that to beat you need to be level 68-70, only there is one problem: YOU CAN'T GET LEVEL ******* 68-70. Whoops! Now they're ruining a zone that is in my opinion one of the best in EverQuest. I was sad when I heard they were revamping it. That's just what EverQuest needed, a revamping of one of the better zones. Now it's just another ****** elemental experience that will be devoid of all life in another ******* month, if not sooner because of this ******** quest. People will go back to PoFire, and this zone will be dead, ruined beyond all belief by Sony's terrible Devs.

What I find funny (other than a 250 post count that are probably all complaints) is that you clearly haven't even BEEN to the zones that you're talking about, let alone got drops from them.
For instance, you clearly don't NEED to be level 68+ to take these bosses down because people have done it with the 65 cap. You might claim that means only the most powerful players can get access to the loot. Well guess what? That's who needs it most! Why would an uber Time raiding guild bother fighting anything if the stuff that dropped was worse than their current gear?
Think back to (by your account) the golden age of Kunark. With a level 55 cap you wouldn't be soloing your epic, so who do you think got them first? That's right, the most powerful guilds.

As for the design of zones, I think SOE is doing a fantastic job. Not just in the graphics department (which keep improving with each expansion IMO), but in layout as well. Mistmoore and Takish Hiz LDoNs have mobs standing out in the open, yet they're camouflaged against the walls. Dynamic spawning, especially in Grieg's and other Luclin zones, mean that you can't simply sit and wait for that NPC you want, because they might appear in a number of places. GoD zones, where a group of merely 2 or 3 people can get gear that would have once been considered uber and is still pretty damn good. Look up Hardened Serpent Scale Greaves if you want proof.

What I assume you mean by your comments is similar to a whole load of teenage EQ players and eBaybies:
"Waaah, I'm too lazy to go hunting things. I don't want to go LFG in this massively multiplayer game. I can't wait for things to happen, I want it right now. I want to be able to sit around fighting dark blue con level 55 mobs and get the same equipment as the people who take 72 members and fight the level 70+ Time/GoD bosses."

Risk versus reward is working. You fight harder stuff, you get better gear. you do more demanding quests, you get better results. If you don't put in the time, you deserve nothing.

/rant off
Sorry to those who feel the same way and still bothered to read this post all the way through :)

I agree with you on all expansions past PoP and especially GoD where the mob's levels are still set to be encounterd at the maximum level of 70 where our spells would hit better but no they crank it out like little money grubbing morons and ***** the whole expansion. Anyway I still think luclin is decent and was made with verant still controlling the designs. Full of some nice lore and quests and encounters and such but my only problem is they seem to have wanted to make a huge amount of quests in shar vhal and other areas yet didn't have time to or something. They have a huge amount of storyline coming from the horrible payoff vah shir quests but they just stop too soon without a decent reward. The same goes for twilight armor, I believe they just threw a bunch of random named mob spawns there at the end and added these instead of making them a progressive thing that would actually make them worth getting. Anyway the point is the encounters in Luclin, besides the horrendous hp amounts, I liked as well as zone designs and mob models but it just seems to sort of trail off at the end into nothing. You endlessly farm aten for her head and that's basically it. The only thing harder than her with lore is khati sha but his loot and difficulty are way off balance. Ah well, with each expansion there is hope and I hope for the future of EQ they took a step back and totally redid Omens of War to accomidate the maximum level it allows...

except nowadays, you don't need 40+ well organised people anymore, neither a raiding guild to gank Trakanon.

2 groups are more than enough

Did you read the quest? Trakanon has **** to do with it. You have to kill a dragon that hits for 2500 and has a 2k ae and a mana drain / snare.

I know this is late, but Trak does have to do with this quest (he is part of the old key) ie the pre quest to even do this quest. It gets me to know end how someone that know very little just wants to go off the handle at someone.

Sony is the most incompetent company on the face of the Earth. They have no idea how to run or create decent content for EverQuest.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 31 2004 at 1:45 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) OK CheesySnax, we get your point. In fact, I got it when you posted a bunch of garbage up in a post above this one. Here's a question for you though. If Sony is so terrible, why would you be wasting your time on this site to the tune of... shall we say, 242 posts? Is it so terrible that you just HAVE to come read up and talk about it? Just shut the hole under your nose and take the game for what it is -- A GAME.

There are older expansions. Kunark, Velious, and Classic EQ all contain a lot of good content. You don't have to go to POP, or LOY, or LDON and experience the new content. I've experienced it, and I don't like it. I stick to the old zones. I'm a little peeved that they ruined one of my favorite zones. I used to be able to bring 5 of my friends and hunt here, but not anymore. Now I need an entire guild if I want any loot from this zone.

Here's a question for you: Do you use Windows XP? If you're like me, you use Windows and you hate it. I hate Microsoft too, but does that mean I can't use their software? No, it doesn't. There are no alternatives for me. I don't want a Mac, and I don't want to use Linux. It's the same with EverQuest: I enjoy playing EverQuest, but I'm not impressed by Sony. I've tried almost every other MMO game on the planet, but none are as fun as EverQuest for me. I can still complain about Sony all I want. That's what's great about being an American.

If I am understanding correctly, each of the 6 chests has 8 books in them. Do you only need 1 book to get the blood, thus allowing 48 people to get blood off one kill? Also, how are the chests protected from Joe-ninjalooter coming up and looting a book?

They aren't protected at all. I think that whoever designed this event really didn't put much thought into it. As soon as S`DS is killed, the 8 chests (which are just dead npc's with 8 minute corpse timers) spawn. The problem with this is that the chests are not killed by the raid and are therefore free targets to anyone in the zone. On the first SDS kill on the Luclin server (an open raid), we had 3 ninja looters (there were more than 48 people in the raid so books went to first come first serve) and 3 books rot due to the short corpse timers (also partially due to a certain unnamed guild who seemed to be claiming a chest for the members of their guild).

If anyone in SOE actually reads these messages: PLEASE CHANGE HOW THESE BOOKS ARE DISTRIBUTED.

I bet the chests would be like the bugged ones in LDoN, where if you try to loot it'll tell you hostile creatures are nearby! LOL

Haha You are almost correct. I was the MT for a Dragon kill for the key and was doing fine till I was hit with an incredible knockback spell. This knockback pushed me about 25% across the zone. I would definitely have 3 tanks for this.

As I ran back to the raid I must have agroed a mob and out ran it, but when I tried to loot a chest I got a message saying I could not loot due to a mob being aware of my presence or something to that effect. I had to camp and come back having only 1 min left on the box to loot a book.

EDIT Well I tanked another one today and didnt get hit by the knockback spell but a few others did. It may beable to be resisted. I did have a bard in the group and my resists were pegged at 500.

I would also like to add.. Thanks SoE for adding a positive faction hit for Venril Sathir to the mobs in VP. I was max negative faction to VS from killing too much in KC and from killing VS himself. I couldnt do the quests for faction through OT due to being so low in the faction tree. Those of us who still want to do the Gate Hammer quest are grateful for the chance to get this. The only way for bring max bad faction to VS up to the point where you can do the braids turn in was to kill rare dragon like Gorenaire.

Since servers came up yesterday, those who had their old VP keys were itching to get in. Didn't take long to get stopped short of the door. Here are my notes about the quest and the encounter so far.

First off, let's start with what's needed. You need: Old VP key or 3 essences, from Chardok (random rare), sebilis (echo of sebilis in shroom area) and chardok (echo of chardok around royals), the latter 2 taking a group or more to kill; you also need dragon blood, which you get after turning in the book that drops off of chests Suled Dar's Shade spawns upon death. He spawns 6 chests with 8 books each. You turn them in to Dry Sapara and you get the blood. Combine in the Drained cipher and you get your key/aug.

Now how do you spawn Suled Dar? After collecting a raid force, have 4 people go to each orb in skyfire, One at each: near ragefire trigger, south of OT entrance, Druid port in, and atop the entrance to VP. Once your people are there, have someone say Ready to Dry Sapara and then have your 4 people click on all the orbs. They have to be clicked fairly close together since it takes about 10 seconds for them to reset. Upon doing this, you get zonewide spam and Suled Dar's Shade spawns just NE of the lake in the center of SF. He is hard to see at times because he is transparent, like Jaled Dar's shade in DN.

So how hard is he? First off, he hits 2.4k melee and has a small AoE rampage. Make sure this is made clear because his hitbox is small. He also has 2 AoEs which both suck: 2k aoe (-300 MR check) with a 4 slot dispell and slight knockback; 65% snare and mana drain (-200 prismatic). He does not have TOO much hp and a good sized raid force with proper strategy can take him easy. Servers have spawned and killed him with as little as 40, to as much as 90.

Respawn time on triggering him needed.

EDIT: Suled Dar's Shade requires belly casting

He's perma rooted, on a rather small penisula surrounded by lava of course. Both AEs are timed on 30 sec and it's the knockback/dispel that truely sucks. Range is immense and if levitation is debuffed, the knockback is almost certain to 20k someone in Skyfire. As mentioned, his hit box is really frickin small.

If you wipe, pull your CR from under the lava. Target corpses from a good distance, swim under lava near enough to drag. While under lava you take minimal burn damage, but none of the AEs will hit you if someone aggros him. No, you cant park your clerics there to CH in safety hehe. If you approach like a normal CR, you can expect a tasty couple of AEs before you even get close enough to drag.

He doesnt drop any kinda loot that we saw, just makes the chests pop on the ridge above his spawn area. 6 Chests, 8 books per chest (not certain on numbers, but it's what I saw in the one I opened).

Another note, there are 2 cyphers. Cypher made with old key is an augment (30 hp, 30 mana, 30 end, wgt 0.5) that fits any slot. Cypher made from new essense quest is also an augment, but weaker stats (15 hp, 15 mana, 15 end, wgt 0.5).
