You say, 'Hail, Xygoz'

Xygoz says 'Well, I must say it is refreshing to find a new being in my lair after so many years. I have lived a long and fruitful life, yet I yearn for the past and a time when some of us were still whelps, where we learned everything we knew from our masters. My mentor was of the first brood, an ancient dragon, older than any of the other dragons save Veeshan herself. She was and still is a very powerful dragon and I yearn to speak with her. Her name is Lendiniara the Keeper and was the best teacher any dragon could ever have. How would you like to connect me with her great mind? You could perhaps [deliver] a message for me, since I cannot travel these days.'

You say, 'I will deliver a message.'

Xygoz says 'This is indeed a fortunate day for me. Take this letter to Lendiniara for me. It is no ordinary letter. My message is scribed with a magic only she can see. She will be proud I have used a magic she taught to me to greet her again. Thank you for the assistance mortal.'

You receive a Note from Xygoz. Lendiniara the Keeper may be found in the west wing of the Temple of Veeshan. You must have ally faction with Claws of Veeshan to complete this portion. Give her the note.

Lendiniara the Keeper says 'What is this? A letter from Xygoz, my student? I am impressed you have been able to take this dangerous journey from Veeshan's Peak to here without any conflict. Oh, and he scribed it with our magic. Thank you for this letter. Now, take this trinket. It's a gift I would like you to bestow upon Xygoz for me. He was my favorite student, yet I never told him that directly. This trinket will surely deliver that message to him. However, there is one problem. The trinket has been damaged slightly because of an attack in Western Wastes. The magic from this trinket was torn from it and I fear that one of those horrid Kromzek has stolen it and taken it back to Kael. Before you give it to Xygoz, please retrieve the power source and reunite it with the trinket. I wish Xygoz my best and hope he will be most pleased with this token of my fondness for him.'

You receive a 2-slot GIANT container called Lendiniara's Trinket, which identifies as "Mechanical in nature, but non-operational." You must then head to the arena in Kael Drakkel and kill Protectors of Zek there until you loot A Foreign Power Source, which identifies as "This appears to power up something, but needs a Gem Cutter." Rumor has it the Protector of Zek will glow if it has the item. Combine it in Lendiniara's Trinket with a Gem Cutter to craft a non-container Lendiniara's Trinket. Bring this back to Xygoz.

Xygoz says 'Is this trinket truly meant for me? Lendiniara was not one for giving gifts. Oh, how I miss her. I must thank you again. Once again I'm brimming with pride because of my mentor. Here is your reward, if it doesn't suit you, please give it back and I will find something that does. Farewell.'

You receive a Necklace of the Melodic Dragon. If you don't like it, hand it back to receive a Flame-Tempered Girdle. You see the following dialogue if you exchange the rewards:

Xygoz says 'How utterly obtuse and arrogant. How about this one then?'

Decent quest
# Jan 08 2005 at 2:17 PM Rating: Default
I recently just finished this quest with the help of a friend. We are both ranger's and duo'ed the protectors over a few nights. We had 1 power source drop per night. They only seem to drop off the 3 on the way to the Arena and they also have a 26 min respawn time. As soon as you open the door to the Arena all 3 will aggro for the most part. Get them snared and root parked then pick them off at your own pace. But dont damage them until your ready since they summon. Its pretty funny when your getting summoned by 2 mobs.

The Gem cutter is what some would consider the hard part of the quest. It is consumed when combined with the power source. All i did was camped the ice giants in Permafrost until i got some diamond dust. Be aware though, since it is lore, which i found out the hard way. Apperantly it also drops off the Fire giants in Sol B as well. Seeing as they have an 8 hour spawn time (if memory serves me correct) you may want to bounce between both places to try for a drop. As for the combine, all i did was log on a friends account and raised his tinkering to 90 for around 1k pp and did the combine with no problems.

This was the 3rd VP quest out of four i finished and the easiest in my opinion.

Tal,
Warmly to Lendiniara NOT enough
# Dec 28 2004 at 1:41 AM Rating: Decent
Just tried this quest with Ally RoS and Warmly CoV faction...Lendiniara hands the note back with the comment that she does not need this item.
high ally needed
# Dec 15 2004 at 7:29 PM Rating: Decent
i just tried to get the quests from them last night with ally faction and they told me i need to prove myself. you need max ally or damn close
HIGH WARMLY
# Nov 02 2004 at 8:37 PM Rating: Decent
I just tried to hand the note in with Warmly faction, she just handed the note back to me telling me she didn't need it.

So seems its very high warmly to do turn-in.

In any case, I'm off to faction some more.... /sigh.

Very easy quest for the reward
# Sep 05 2004 at 9:17 PM Rating: Decent
The PoZ's are a factor of luck. First one I killed = quest piece. Four hours more for friends piece. The gem cutter IS CONSUMED when the combine is done.

This upset me highly cause I borrowed a friends. Gem Cutters on Inny are going for 30-45k...so that is kinda ouch. But the rewards are indeed excellent.

bleh. way overpriced. If you can get into vp, then just kill the fire giants in solb for the dust yourself, then make a level 1 gnome to combine all the storebought items for less than 100p.

(gnomes start at 50 tinker)

Make sure you have ally with COV or she will eat the note hard to tell if you have high warm faction. I had warm faction and she ate it just a time sink to run all over the globe. Went back to kael took down vindicator and my faction was maxxed after that.

Why exchange?
# Aug 18 2004 at 10:49 PM Rating: Decent
Just curious, why would you want to exchange the reward? It would make sense if the items were all/all, but they're class specific.

that's exactly why you want to exchange the item.

when you hand the trinket to Xygoz, you get given the Necklace. If you are a class that cannot use the necklace, you just hand it in and get the Girlde.

Xygoz doesn't give you the class specific item the first time.
Veashans's Peak
# Aug 14 2004 at 9:23 PM Rating: Decent
What factions are in Veeshans Peak? If i am ally to Ring of Scale can i just mosey in and not be kos or will i still be crushed like a bug? Obviously, i havent been there in the past, and now i understand its been tweaked up to elemental level.

The mobs in Skyfire at the entrance to Veeshan's Peak will be KOS to you (except the Dry Sapara, who I believe is beta neutral), but inside Veeshan's Peak itself, the vast majority of stuff there won't attack you. However, there are lava basilisks in the lava that will attack anyone, so be careful of that. The basilisks I've checked can't see invis, so if you go there invis and have good RoS faction, and don't go swimming in the lava, you should be fine.

# Sep 10 2004 at 3:45 AM Rating: Default
All of the basalisks See invis, however you'd have to go out of your way to upset one of them. some of the drawbridges require you to lev accross the lava, but as long as you lev you shouldn't agro.
RE: Veashans's Peak
# Sep 16 2004 at 3:18 AM Rating: Default
This is incorrect; I have yet to find a lava basilisk that can see invis, and I've run across quite a few.

Hmm Zmonk. I wonder if my character being a wood elf worshipping Tunare has anything to do with the difference in response I get with warmly faction that you did. Perhaps I am at the top end of warmly?

This happened with the turn in to Neb in DN. I was able to turn in the note with dubious faction and later, someone said they tried at dubious and it didn't work.

I also know both Dragon and Elder Dragon (I maxxed out all my languages). So as far as the differences in NPC response with the same NPC faction, I offer the following three possible reasons:
1) wood elf druid, worshipping tunare (not likely)
2) high warmly (possible)
3) knowledge of dragon, elder dragon (possible)

Zmonk, do you know the dragon and elder dragon languages? If not, try turning the note in again after maxxing the languages. If you already do, then perhaps the reason is 1) or 2).

Thanks!

Even though this is for a different quest i will add this... You need HIGH dubious for neb turn in, dubious works, but low dubious wont work.

I had just gotten warmly while turning in helms in skyshrine, and only turned in like 3 more b4 i went to ToV and got my note eaten. im also 100 in elder dragon, but 0 in dragon. but i could understand her so i guess it's elder dragon you would need. but i've maxed my CoV faction now and turned in the note successfully.

So i guess you just need high warmly faction to turn in the note.

Getting Power Source
# Jul 28 2004 at 1:36 PM Rating: Default
Hunted in Kael today, had 2 of the power sources drop in about 2.5 hours. The hard part of this quest will then be getting ally faction with the 2 dragon broods, if you dont have already.

They drop from the "protector of zek", 3 of them spawn in the arena in their own room.

I assume you need ally faction with Xygoz (Ring of Scale) to complete this quest? Can anyone confirm this?

I'd also like to know, we've been killing Vindi and Protectors for last few days trying to max cov and get pieces for the VP quests. I know Vindi's heart requires high levels of Ring of Scale, anyone know how high this can be done?

When I first hit ally he gave me that "you still need to prove yourself" business. I returned with a few more faction hits and max ally to Ring of Scale and he now gives the quest.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 21 2004 at 7:04 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) There are no faction hits when you turn in the trinket or when you turn back in the necklace. He only says the regular "How utterly obtuse and arrogant. How about this one then?"...
