Vaifan Cogswin may be found near Fezbin Fizzles at -35, +60, with whom you must have already completed the preflagging to accomplish this step of the quest.

Vaifan Cogswin says 'Well, hello traveler. You here to help with the scout problem we've been having?'

You say, 'Yes.'

Vaifan Cogswin says 'Good to hear. I have been going out of my skull trying to tinker another one to find the first. Now that you are here, I can stop that and focus on compiling the information I already have. Let me tell you, being in charge of something like this is very taxing on the nerves. I remember being a young gnome and whenever I tinkered something it worked the first time. Ah, how good it felt to put the Cogswin family emblem on my wonderful creations. Nowadays it seems like everything I make has some intermittent flaw or defect. I might have to accept that I am getting old and a little slow, but I still have the wits to invent. I should stop rambling and get to the point. I am in charge of scouting the mountain areas known as [Tipt], [Vxed], and the [sewers] under the city. Which would you like to know about?'

You say, 'What is Tipt?'

Vaifan Cogswin says 'The mountainous areas of this continent hold many dangers within them. Tipt in particular is thick with members of the invading army, dangerous creatures, and the angry spirits of nihil refugees. Looking at the information I have, the clockwork scout tried to take a direct path to the other side of Tipt and had some serious problems. Apparently, it had a run in with some cragbeasts, a pack of ghosts, numerous Muramites, and a native riddlemaster. While he made it pretty far, he took significant damage each step of the way. My last report received for this area stated that it was returning to the Vxed area to recover, but had lost multiple power cells in the process. I need you to retrieve these power cells. They are vital to rebuilding the scout and getting that report. There are five different types of cells, each one is called Vaifan's Power Cell -- named after the most ingenious gnome there is, of course. The cells are named from A to E. When you have collected all of them, place them in this power pack, activate it, and return it to me.'

You receive a Depleted Clockwork Power Pack, a 6-slot SMALL container.

Retrieve the Power Cells

The five cells, named Vaifan's Temporary Power Cell A-E, are rare drops from the mobs mentioned in Tipt: A drops from an enraged maternal cragbeast, B drops from undead nihils, C drops from key-dropping mobs, D is handed to you by Rikabi the Riddler if you solve his riddle, E drops from Kyv Heartstriker Jhiru.

NOTE: See this quest entry for all details about the expedition into Tipt, Treacherous Crags.

Once you have all five cells, combine them in the power pack:

Each battery slides neatly into place as the power pack emits a low whine indicating it is powered up and fully operational.

This produces a "Fully Charged Power Pack". Give this to Vaifan.

Vaifan Cogswin says 'Wonderful. While the power cells were slightly damaged I was still able to increase the strength of the power pack for a short amount of time. This should give the scout just enough power to produce a legible copy the report. Thank you for the assistance, take this I scraped it off the side of the power cells. Looks like it might be able to add some power to the stone you recieived from Fezbin. There are still some areas left to explore, so when you are ready ask me about the next area you want to look into.'

You were successful in helping Vaifan complete her report of the Tipt Mountain pass.

You receive A Dirt Covered Gem Shard, which you may combine with A Dusty Green Gemstone and Vaifan's Clockwork Gemcutter Tools in Vaifan's Experimental Sealer to craft one of four versions of A Dirty Green Gemstone (melee, hybrid, caster, priest). You also receive an Extended Life Power Pack, a Power Pack Adapter, and Clockwork Scout Assembly Instructions.

The above is what you see if you have completed some but not all of steps 5-7. If you have completed all three steps, you see the following:

Vaifan Cogswin says 'Now that we have all the functioning pieces, we can reassemble the scout. Take these instructions and this power pack adapter and return to either mountain area to assemble the scout. I would have you do it here, but I fear he may be unstable and . . . well, let's just say I don't want to put the ship in danger. Please return to me with the report once you have it. I am going to prepare my final report so when you return I can take it straight to Fezbin. Good luck to you.'

Now you must reassemble the Extended Life Power Pack, the Power Pack Adapter, and the Repaired Clockwork Output Gearbox in the Inactive Clockwork Scout Module. This combine only works in Vxed or Tipt, as indicated in the Clockwork Scout Assembly Instructions.

With the final piece in place, the clockwork scout's eyes light up as it comes to life.

Clockwork Scout Model XIII /cons indifferent. As instructed:

You say, 'Access code 040703'

Clockwork Scout Model XIII says 'Verifying password and user identity . . .'

Clockwork Scout Model XIII says 'Identity verified as ______. Processing scout report. Please return report to Vaifan.'

You receive an Outer Regions Scouting Report. Only the person who spawned the scout can get the report. The scout despawns after one minute.

Clockwork Scout Model XIII says 'Power cells low. Shutting down to reserve power.'

Give the report to Vaifan.

Vaifan Cogswin says 'Excellent. It is always wonderful when something you invent works out. This was all I needed to finish up my report to Fezbin. Thank you once again. You have been very helpful. Once again I must reward you with this. When you brought the clockwork frame to me this fell out of it. I think it will go with your stone quite well. Try combining the two together and see what happens. I must say goodbye now.'

You get as a reward whatever reward you were supposed to get at the final step of parts 5-7 that you completed.

I noticed the original write-up said "face" and thought it odd. The word is actually "stone" which makes more sense.

Retrieve the Power Cells

The five cells, named Vaifan's Temporary Power Cell A-E, are rare drops from the mobs mentioned in Tipt: A drops from an enraged maternal cragbeast, B drops from undead nihils, C drops from key-dropping mobs, D is handed to you by Rikabi the Riddler if you solve his riddle, E drops from Kyv Heartstriker Jhiru.

Open the Tipt instance by saying "Tipt" to Apprentice Udranda in Barindu. This expedition allows 1-6 players.

The progression in the instance to obtain the power cells is:

Clear to the cragbeast room
Kill the enraged and loot your Cell A
Clear to the undead room
Clear the undead and loot your Cell B
Clear to the key room
Clear the key droppers and loot your Cell C and key
Clear to the Riddler
Complete the riddle to open the door and receive Cell D
Clear to the locked gate
Unlock and continue clearing to Jhiru
Kill Jhiru and loot your Cell E

Cells don't drop every time.

Now 15 bags pop all around him on the ground. You have to loot them one by one until you find the item for your riddle.

Additionally - they can't just be in the expedition - they must be in the instance, and up with you at the undead area.

I cant seem to get the Undead to spawn after I kill the Cragbeast mother. I get the emote "Shivers run up and down your spine....." but no Undead spawn, stopping me from getting the necessary item/flag or w/e it is to get a riddle from the Riddle master. any ideas? I have the container etc on me and have done all quests up to 7.

Doing this for my bot (yes, I know how sick that is) and am finding the riddler seems to be bugged. WHen I try to hand in the correct piece/answer, he hands it back saying he has no need for this. If you hand in the wrong piece, he has no problem sending in the pooka army though. Anyone else find this to be the case?

If you don't have the battery pack container on you, he won't give you the Power Cell D. If you do have the battery pack on you, you'll still get the message about him not needing the item, but he'll give you the cell back when he hands you the riddle answer back.

Either way, even though he returns the riddle answer, the door still opens.

After countless days working this boxing monk /shaman i'd completed 1 thru 6 and 8.. not being able to spawn the mobs for 7 without a 3rd..and face it..nowadays its RARE to find anyone doing this series. Well,i finally found a guildie willing to help with 7. After 5 complete runs thru Tipt we all (my 2 toons and his 3) had batteries A, D and E. I had the only B and C 's . We called it a night and i did my turn in of the comnbined Fully Charged Power Pack for 7 and was so tired, that when i got my pieces for combineing the Clockwork Scout Module i instinctively did... well, that poofed my Repaired CLockwork Output Gearbox. Yep.. i was at the NPC in Abysmal Sea. /sigh... I'm hoping that redoing the Sewers and redoing the turn in will get me another one so i can go to Tipt for the combine. No..i didnt bother with /petitioning it. It was my fault and I sure had enough warning. But if it's not gonna work for me, ill post it as such to let anyone who makes this mistake know wether to scrap it all or not. And having combined crystals to get to the Dusty Green step there's no way to go back to the step allowing the usable crystal with the stats. So in essence the stated "this combine doesnt work outside Tipt / Vxed" is not entirely accurate. You CAN do the combine outside of Tipt or Vxed.. but it FAILS and eats pieces. That's a VERY differnt outcome than getting the "you cannot do this combine" message.

On a hunch i restarted another Tipt run and zoned in.. the "missing" module appeared on my cursor and i was able to do a successful combine and the Scout did spawn and once i gave the code i recieved the scouting report. So if a piece turns up missing return to Tipt (or Vxed) and it should reappear.. saving your combine. /does happy dance : )

The "key dropping MOB" -- from my experience -- is the An Anuek Fleshweaver.

Also -- Fezbin is listed as an involved NPC in this quest. While the lore/spam does mention him -- he is not actually involved at all.

That is, unless need to get another Vaifan's Experimental Sealer from him.

Ok, by key dropping mobs, just means that one room right before riddler with the mobs that have the chance to drop the key, correct?

Basically you can invis from start through all except pookas, hynids and mastugs. I advise invising where possible since this can be a long mission. repops are fast. Enc or bard can make this task very easy. first gate will be empty. You have to get three folks invisible and then walk into the centr. This will spawn the baby cragbeasts. Pull all these except the last one. Move into the right side of the chamber and then kill the last baby cragbeast. Momma named cragbeast will pop after the last baby cragbeast is killed - not a hard fight if you are ready for it. carry on upwards to towards the next gate where the Trusiks should be popped already - same thing to pop them as with the baby cragbeasts if not but be careful since they see through invis and ivu. Each one of these trusiks will spawn one more trusik when killed so basically you have to kill each trusik twice. when the last trusik dies a named will spawn but will not be agro. hail her for directions - possibly hidden flag. move upwards to the next gate, the next gate should be popped - same thing to pop them if not. none of these see invis but resist the temptation to run past them as one of them will drop a cracked key (key of some sort) which is needed to get past the riddler up ahead. once you have the key move to the riddler. hail and say i am ready to receive your riddle. only one cell d will be given so the person hailing must be the one to solve riddle. solve riddle in google and then loot one of the correct items that solves the riddle and give to riddler for cell d and to open the gate. move upwards to next gate ( final gate) I reccommend some serious croud control - the named isnt that hard.

I turned in fully charged power pack to Vaifan, only received dirt covered gem shard and extended life power pack in return, I didn't receive the power pak adapter or the clockwork scout assembly instructions. Anyone else have this problem?

I have the exact same problem. I did both Vxed and Tipt parts but I haven't done sewers. However, I only got the Extended Life Power Pack and the Inactive Scout Module. Just like you I don't have the Power Pack Adapter or the Clockwork Scout Assembly Instructions.

I'm hoping that when I complete the sewers they will show up.

I have been told many stories that you need to have BiC up to this step to actually do the final combine and from what i have seen this is true, some of my guildies have had this happen to them so I waited untill i was to the step terrified that i would loose the pieces and have to spend hours farming them again. Just be safe and wait before you combine i would say.

Took an alt through tipt. Just did the pre flag and told Vaifan Cogswin what tipted and I got cell d. I wasnt exp leader nor did I do the riddle

I said "the-heck-with-it" and went ahead and combined the gems without the prior steps being completed and it worked fine. I have my bag slot back. I am guessing the posts I saw tried to do the final combines which resulted in them having to start over.

I heard of people having all five cells and the container. When they combine them the lose them all and have to collect the cells over again. Has anyone experienced this? Do you know why? Do you have to have all the previous steps done first? Help...I don't want to lose the cells. I have them all but I don't know what the restriction on the combine is. I have not completed the steps prior to this but I would like to get my bank slot back.

I didn't get a cell from Rikabi either thought maybe I forgot to say something to him but apparently not.Was already flagged so thats not the problem.Any ideas?

First of all You have to be the one to turn in the answer to the riddle to get the D cell. Also you have to have talked to Vaifan to start the quest and have the container to combine the cells in before the Riddler will give you D.

I didn't get the container, and the bard in my group solved the riddle yet I got D from the Riddler. I *was* the person who requested the adventure.

So, my hunch is: requester of adventure gets D.

I was not leader, didnt have the container yet, didnt hail the riddler, nor answered his riddle. he (the riddler) sent me a tell and d showed up on my cursor..

I did not get a 'D' power cell either when I solved the riddle correctly. I had done the zero quest of bic, and some of the ground work for other early steps, but hadn't completed any of the early quests in BIC. I also didn't hail Vaifan on the Abysmal Sea to get the depleted power pack either. When I try again, you can bet I will do those the later two items first.

It says in the quest write up that you get another addition to the quest if you haven't completed all the steps in bic quests 5-7. Does this mean you can skip parts 5 and 6 altogether and just do the tipt part + the little additional step for the credit? Thanks.
