Here's the Vah Shir version:

Omtia Sami says 'Hail to you! Step right up! Step right up! You look like you could use one of the new fireworks we just got in stock! Oh, wait a minute. Are you an [adventurer]?'

You say, 'I am an adventurer.'

Omtia Sami looks you up and down. 'I knew it! I can spot an adventurer from a mile away! How would you like to win this shiny staff I'm holding? It only requires a small undertaking, you know, gathering a few trinkets for me. Nothing could be simpler and you'll soon have your very own Staff of Endless Adventures! Are you [interested]?'

You say, 'I am interested.'

Omtia Sami says 'Excellent, you seemed like a person who would enjoy a good game. Here is a bag to combine some items and a cheat-sheet to give you some hints on where to find these trinkets. Don't ask me for any more hints though. This is all you get! Once you are done, bring back the bag and you'll be rewarded nicely!'

You receive A Collector's Cheat Sheet and a 10-slot Collection Bag. The text of the cheat sheet is as follow:

1) An orb that aids humans on their dark journey through the land of Gix.
2) The framework of grotesque guardians.
3) The cause of the vilest stench on Odus.
4) To bathe safely in the flames of Ro, you'd be lucky to have this natural protection.
5) Once amphibians begin to rot, they have no need of this blithering tool.
6) The undead guard against the portal of terror with this sharp weapon.
7) A liquid hoop from the masters of the kitchen.
8) This stuffed toy will likely smell of rodent.
9) The diseased mongrel will really miss this well-kept orb.
10) A close look at this pointy object and you'll understand how the weeping began.

The ten items are as follows:

1) A Collector's Lightstone, dropped by wisps in Commonlands.
2) A Collector's Mistmoore Granite, dropped by gargoyles in Castle Mistmoore.
3) A Collector's Skunk Scent Gland, dropped by skunks in Toxxulia Forest.
4) A Collector's Fire Goblin Skin, dropped by goblins in Solusek's Eye (Sol A).
5) A Collector's Undead Froglok Tongue, dropped by undead frogloks in Lower Guk.
6) A Collector's Scythe, dropped by spectres near the entrance to the Plane of Fear in the Feerrott.
7) A Collector's Water Ring, dropped by aqua goblins in Dagnor's Cauldron.
8) A Collector's Kerran Doll, dropped by kerran villagers on Kerra Isle in Toxxulia Forest.
9) A Collector's Preserved Split Paw Eye, dropped by gnolls in South Karana.
10) A Collector's Shark Tooth, dropped by sharks in the Ocean of Tears.

Combine the ten items in your Collection Bag to craft a Sealed Collection Bag. Hand this in to the quest-giver in your hometown for one of five varieties of Staff of Endless Adventure dependent on your character's creation date (e.g., March 2000 and before yields the Nagafen version), with each year casting a different fireworks display to celebrate EverQuest's fifth anniversary!

On my server I have heard a ton of people complain about the reward not being worth the trouble for this quest. This were level 50+ complaining about the hassel. Personaly I loved it, and it was a chance to have something that will only be availble for a week. It probably took my 37 necro about 9 hours, but I honestly found it well worth the trouble. It seems lately too many people have become conserned with only haveing the most "uber" items, and forgoten about the joy of questing and haveing just plain fun items.

Who the hell do I talk to for the Erudin races? I went to Erudin and someone shouted for me to come find them in the Vasty Deep Inn. I looked and looked but the person could not be found, Silos Dumont.

Any erudites out there able to help me find out how to start this damn quest. Nice of the vah shir to have a walkthrough but what about the other races ><

He's just outside the Vasty Deep inn. If you stand at the foot of the stairs leading up to the inn, facing the inn, he will be on your left. In case it helps, he is also a vendor who sells festival food and drinks.

I've noticed, across four toons, that a certain spawn of four "Hidden Gnolls" always drops at least one eye - just a moment ago each of them dropped one. They're way off as west as you can go from the northern lake, kind of hidden around a bend. The Loc was approx 780 by 230
Anyone under 30 Solo this?

This quest was fun for my 29 druid. With new port spells in hand I was able to get to all the destinations easy. Even made a few plat porting people around! Managed to kill some of the harder mobs myself.
1. Easy (tracking helped)
2. Could not easily get to a gargoyle in Mistmore so I asked if anyone would trade a SoW for pulling a few to the entrance. Higher level monk obliged me, even FD'd so I got the xp for the kill(s)
3. Easy (tracking helped big time)
4. Killed a few goblins but invised and went in and looted when somone said they were rotting.
5. Not KoS in Upper Guk helped. Went to Zone line and managed to kill two ghoul knights near there.
6. Found one rotting. Good thing too, since my 37 monk failed to kill a spectre.
7. Very easy with track.
8. Tracked and killed one capital K Kerran.
9. Familiar with Splitpaw Lair. Killed a few gnolls but found one rotting deeper inside. Invised to get it.
10. Jumped in the water and tracked sharks. Killed several 'sharks'. Finally killed reef shark for drop.

Tracking and porting made this all the more fun. This quest was a druid's dream. Fireworks are nice too...

Where would a half elf ranger with the deity of Tunare start and finish the quest? Been looking for some time now... Lol.
RE: Help.
# Mar 19 2004 at 12:09 PM Rating: Decent
Starting cities available to a Half Elf Ranger:Tunare are SFG and Qeynos. You will get the quest in Qeynos but like the LDON adv stone probly start the quest at any city that you are or can become non kos.

Dont know about the ranger, but a half-elf druid friend found out he started in Freeport. We were on our way to OOT when he got the message. Hope this helps.
RE: Help.
# Mar 18 2004 at 8:08 PM Rating: Decent
I can think of three places:

Kelethin
Qeynos
Surefall Glade

Of course I may be wrong... always worth trying. Just roam around each zone for 5 - 10 minutes until you see an NPC bcast something to you... if you don't get the message head on over to another zone. If none of that works... just petition and ask for assistance, they should be more than happy to help Smiley: grin

Hope this helps

Makes Ya Life of The Raid
# Mar 18 2004 at 4:38 PM Rating: Decent
It WAS a fun quest. Me and a bunch of friends did it together early the day they started the hunt. Had no clue what the staff was; just knew we wanted that sparkly thing in the NPCs hand. ;-)
Two dropped out when they found out it wasn't a weapon of mass destruction, but the rest of us didnt care and had it finished in 3 hours (keep in mind this was before this page was posted; just people talking with other people). Right after we got flagged for Tactics; it was a good EQ day. ;-)

Hardest part was definately finding the shark in OOT. But a clue for you: there's a static shark under a dock on the island closest to the succor point. 2 minute pop)

And it IS account creation that determines the type. Not character creation.

Not true - My Ranger obtained the Solusek Sparkler version whereas my Enchanter obtained the Nagafen Fire one.

it seems to NOT have ANYTHING to do with when anything was created.... my 3 year old char got the same effect as my frog (made the day LoY came out, both solusek ~ and they are on different accounts, made about a year apart

A possibility that struck me, and no one seems to have mentioned it yet... what if the type of effect is based on the character's /played time?

I definately isnt based on time played, but it in fact on when that charcter was created. Same server, same account:

Ruon: created Dec 19, 1999, played 43 days got the Nagafen's Fire staff

Lytril: created Apr 12, 2000, played 234 days got the Trakanon Tail staff.
A total blast

Did this quest the other night with myself 65cleric, 65 chanter and 65 necro. The only tough part was OOT due to no tracker but the rest went rather smooth. It was nice going to zones that I have not been to in 4 years. The item is no more than a status symbol of sorts, but I get a kick out of chain casting the firworks when we kill our raid target mob :)

What Everquest was about
# Mar 18 2004 at 1:20 PM Rating: Decent
Well, after completing this quest with a group of 4 lvl 62-65 characters, I must say it was an absolute joy! Sure it was easy, and sure, it's a novelty item, but it got me to thinking about why I loved this game so much when I first began playing. No Uber loot, no real twinking, just pure wholesome adventuring.

Thank you SONY for reminding me why I loved this game years ago. It was the satisfaction of quest completion that has kept me in the game so long. I really hope we get to see more quests like this, even if the end result is merely a novelty.
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 19 2004 at 1:24 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I wouldn't call this adventuring. Its CAMPING like always in Everquest. Every place I went to for pieces was camped. Total waste of time. <Verant has become better at wasting our time 510>

I noticed that the zones involved were more crowded than usual and expect this quest to be a pain to complete. In reality it went pretty quick. Several people sent /ooc about collection drops throughout the zones. I fully expected mobs like the spectres to be overcamped but those needing the drops waited no more than about 10 minutes. The entire quest took about 3 hours tops. The splitpaw drop took the longest to get but as mentioned somewhere else, it dropped more regularly farther in the zone.

This quest shouldn't be disrespected. It was intended to be fun for questers to take them where they may not have been to in many moons. The end result is more of a trophy than anything else but I see people using them almost every time I go to PoK. I do not see it as a waste of time. I had fun working on it.

Absolutely agree. This quest was a joy to do even though at 65, I'm overkilling these things.
Went to a lot of zones I'd not been in in a long time. Brought back some memories of times that've past.
Nice job SOE!

I had the same problem.. the guy your looking for is in South Qeynos I did not get prompted to see him till I was near the docks. He is a lvl 65 mob so filter off everything but white and you will find him. I forget the name but he is standing where a merchant used to in front of the lion's head in? in the area just to the left of the docks. Hope ye find him ;)

RE: LOL
# Mar 18 2004 at 3:58 AM Rating: Decent
It's not bugged. If you are in the water and go to loot a shark tooth...and the shark's corpse sinks down and you get out of range, then it looks like you have looted, but it is actually still on the corpse. You just have to sink down and loot it again. Hope this helps.

It's a problem with looting corpses underwater. If you are too slow to loot, the corpse floats down to the bottom of the lake. It looks like you looted but never did. Just back away from the corpse and go to the bottom to loot.

My account is from 2001 (which I'm guessing is Tormax Candle), but my bard, created in december 2003, got the Miragul Rocket version. So it can't be account creation.

I'm pretty sure it's not the calander year, but the year since release. User Ishiro Takagi over at safehouse posted this...

Quote:
March 16, 2003 - March 15, 2004 = Miragul Rocket - very young adventurer
March 16, 2002 - March 15, 2003 = Solusek Sparkler - Young adventurer
March 16, 2001 - March 15, 2002 = Tormax Candle - Experienced adventurer
March 16, 2000 - March 15, 2001 = Trakanon Tail - traveled adventurer
March 16, 1999 - March 15, 2000 = Nagafen Fire - veteren adventurer

That fits in with my druid who was created in January of 2001, after the Velious expansion release, and recieved Trakanon's Tail effect.

Quest took me 4 hours to complete. Started at 9:30 PM. Finished at 1:30 AM.

Lower Guk was so crowded, that I could not find any mobs there. I had to wait for somebody to kill a mob, then they would announce that the Collector's Undead Froglok Tongue dropped for me to loot.

Ocean of Tears took a long time waiting for the boat. Then try and find a shark. That is a big place.

All other scavenger items were quick and easy for me to obtain.

For travelling, mostly I used gate spell and Levant. Also, I used the magus at the ldon camps alot. I made one trip to plane of knowledge.

I went in order 2-7-4-1-5-6-9-3-8-10, or MMC-DC-SOLA-WC-LGUK-FEE-PAW-TOX-KER-OOT.

I am level 60, and I received the Staff with the Miragul Rocket spell effect. There are no charges on this item. I can make white colored fireworks all the time.

And I picked up a stack of Free Beer from the chick in my hometown. Very cool.
