Kyralynn can be found in the Barbarian Fishing Village.

You say, ‘Hail Kyralynn’

Kyralynn says, ‘Hello, ! I am the shaman Kyralynn. If you have banded armor, my husband Vrynn and I can form it into a new shaman armor using this totem and some reagents for the ritual. I can use a banded [bracer], [mail], [helm] or [cloak] to form this new armor.’

You say, ‘helm’

Kyralynn says, ‘The helm requires a banded helm, 1 ground dufrenite, a glacier bear pelt, and an ogreskin chamois from a lizard page.’

  1. Banded Helm
  2. Ground Dufrenite
  3. Glacier Bear Pelt (from glacier bear in Everfrost cave) and
  4. Ogreskin Chamois (from lizard page in Cazic)

Dufrenite is occasionally, although rarely, dropped by carrion ghouls in Unrest and Clockworks in Solusek's eye and also can be purchased in the magic shops in various cities including Halas, W Karanas, Rivervale, Grobb and Ogguk for 150 to 200 pp each depending upon your faction and charisma. The ogre shamen in the camp on the other side of the lake will crush/grind/powder it for you. Banded armor is made with the blacksmithing skill.

After months of envy I finally kilt the damn bear. Right now I am so stoked over such an easy kill it seems almost ridiculous. But I have to say that the quests are what you make of them. Its easy to just buy one...or worse to say to hell with it and give up. But if you stick to it, you'll end up with a trophy that means something to yourself. Not bashin twinks. I'm just saying the slow road has its own rewards. Keep trying. It will come if your diligent.

Fnally got the stupid pelt => I was checking up on that spot for more than a week! My suggestion is to play a second character in the meantime while you wait. If possible, create a small level 4 ranger with track and put it there. You can then use this ranger for other small purposes.

Now it's time to tell verant just how silly this quest was.

Went down the hole to the cave sense animal.....DING hes up took 4 minutes to find him less than 30 seconds to take him down... just bring your wizzy friend along who you helped do that horrid staff of the wheel quest hehehe owes you big....oh and btw for the cleric it dropped that too, i did an ooc/ but no takers on it (.... The lich was up but never a factor....as for the ogre chamois...took about 30 minutes to find help and a full mana bar of buffs for the small group. another 15 minutes and it dropped. dont forget to hail the ogres to get the right one make sure that the ogre will grind the gem and not crush it

The other night I helped a Shammie get the Glacier Bear for his quest armor no problem. Maybe I'm just lucky or maybe It's the time I play since I'm stationed overseas but I see him on track every night. 2 nights ago he was up again and I was the only mid level in zone so I went down and solo'd him and got the pelt. If you're on Bristlebane and having trouble getting him I'll offer my services for whatever you feel is a fair price or trade. I'll even go with you and turn in the pelt I have for your totemic helm. Have killed this bear 3 times and yet to see the cleric drop, our cleric is pulling out her hair trying to get it.. oh well.. they way my group has been hunting it, is go in and kill all the ice bones in the place and the cleric keeps a very very close eye on the lich if he is close.. then we go hunt mammoths and wait about 4 to 5 hours. in that time have made enough to pay for the dunfuire from the dealers.. then went back in and wack the poor bear.. his place holds I am told are the 2 wondering ice bones. after your first killing of the place go back in after 30 mins and kill them again if they poped.. if they have not poped in that time you are on your way to get the bear.. note this is how we got him..

The pages were even eaiser went in and there in the thron room he was sitting there by the door pulled him out and none came with him so we nuked him and boom there is the next iteam.. have yet to see the permid though.. one of these days..

Good hunting to you all

As an early post stated unrest one fo the best loot for 15-25 then go to the split paw and make money there off of the gnolls.. they drop wis gloves I was selling for 15pp each and tunics for 20pp.. and most time they parties there do not conter them loot towards your turn :)

Best money for the amouth of time we have put into things would be mammoth tusk.. somedays they drop like flys somedays you get only a few.. but the days they drop you can make a lot of money on them..

to get in to the cave there is a hole in the ice by megan first time in endure beathing on yrou self my swiming is always maxed so I can make it on single breath. swim tothe wall there will be a goblin diver just at the entice he is green and leaves you alone.. get up for some air and another one there kill him. and then you ahve a good place to med.. Always Always watch for that lich.. he is instand death.

For you Barbarians antoher good loot is bandits they drop bronze weapons and you turn in the sashes for faction and some coin.. always good to have . there is a good camp by the water to wack them at..

Ok. So I am no longer the Frustrated Shammy of Saryn Server. I camped my Shaman in the cave and sat there. My divination went up 60 lvls from the constant "Sense Animal" spell casting.

Constant /ooc Glacier Bear is camped and has been camped for last 5 hours. Please do not KS me.

Many people were irritated and such, but I wasn't about to be KsD again.

Bear doesnt spawn in any one particular point. It was a little frustrating b/c Sense Animal spell kept pointing in to a wall.

Did I mention constant /ooc BEAR IS CAMPED ! Especailly at this point. I am shaking because yes....It does say "A Glacier Bear" and I CANT FIND HIM. Oh, but theres the Lich!

Anyway, I did get it and look, a little bonus! A High Quality Bear skin. Hardest 25pp I ever made.

Total camp time, 6hrs 52mins.

Good luck Fellow Shamans! In the Name of the Tribunal, Play Fair and Fight Fierce.

I have all the peices for the legs, wrsits, and boots... Only thing im missing is the dufrenites! I only have 90pp in the bank! thats not enough for ONE duf, much less 3! I am only level 21 and i cant seem to ever get a winning role when group camping things, for some odd reason i ALWAYS roll like a 3 or 1 or something really really low like that. =( Dunno what im gonna do, anyone know of any solo camps i could do to get money? I was thinkin TT's in Najena but when they double team me im in BIG trouble, any suggestions would be great! im on prexus server if you wanta help, im always Nitsujlak (ogre shammy)Travullur(WE rouge) or my ogre warrrior Grumpz.

I share your frustration. I've scraped tooth and nail for every piece of dufrenite I needed. Even at now, I'm still not destroying copper and silver. ;) Here's a few suggestions, take them for what they're worth.

I agree with the other post. Fighting in Cazic Thule can be extremely profitable, even at your level. You can get a courtyard group even in the low-mid 20's, and about one out of three defenders and sentinels drop FS and platinum. Unrest is good, too. Best thing about both zones, of course, is that you can SoW. And both zones drop other Totemic Armor components - 2 in Unrest, and 1 in Dagnor's Cauldron which you have to run through anyway.

Another option is to get a group in Everfrost for wooly mammoths. Their tusks sell for 9-10pp with charisma boosts (try to find a 29+ shaman to cast Alluring Aura or higher, it helps). Yes, there are always a lot of people hunting them, usually soloers in their early 30's... but if you kill placeholders, there will be plenty for everyone.

You could also do what I did... sit on the dock in Oasis, accepting donations and buffs and SoWs. I made 50pp in just four hours doing this. Cheesy, but effective. :)

Finally, stop by a zone that has a lot of auctions. I don't know about other servers, but on mine (Luclin) East Commonlands is now a 24/7 shopping zone. Sometines, you'll find people selling dufrenite for 100pp or so (it rarely drops from various mobs in the game - I've yet to see it), which they can afford to do because it only sells to vendors for less than 20pp.

Good luck, and perseverance pays off I trust you.

I was just checking this out because I got an Ogreskin Chamois while I was in a group camping LTR in Cazic, to see what it was for..

Would like to mention for your money getting question I made almost 100pp in loots and selling FS weapons in about 5 hours there, seems like pretty good cash to me (it was FFA loot but we kept it pretty equal, its not like i took every loot unlike a druid i had been grouped with earlier)

If your talking about the cave of the Bear its in Everfrost. You have to go to the river find the hole in the ice and swim up the river to the end where the Tunnel is. When looking for the bear be sure to avoid the Lich he we kill you very quickly.

Unreal.

I run up to Halas to begin alchemy. Well the next morning I check on GB. He is UP. And the Lich is wandering like it has ants in the pants. (More on this in a sec)

I smoke the bear again. Turn to leave and the bear has RE-POPPED. Well I hightail it all over Antonica to get my helm made.

Go BACK under the ice to kill bear a second time in under two hours.

Lich is wandering and I thought for a second it aggroed on my pet. Ran about 20 seconds away and all seemed clear. Found bear, dropped him in under a minute. Got second pelt in 2 hours.

As I am TURNING to leave, Lich and Pet jump me. Kibaner dies and I am feared. Luckily fear takes me far away from lich and I am able to regain concentration and cast gate as he is smacking me for 137, 47, etc.

Whew.

# Oct 22 2000 at 3:16 AM Rating: Default
Do these things actually drop anymore?!!?
My wife and I have been camping in CT for 3 days and have killed around 20 pages (uncommon spawn) and NOT 1 Chamise. I'm getting a bit ticked off. Everyone talks about the bear but that took 1 day of camping ... And I only had to worry about 2 ice bone skeles and 1 bear. Here I have to camp the entire TR killing all 10-15 spawns and still not getting a chamise in the 3 days of constant camping.
Yes it does

Yes, I can confirm that these do still drop in
the TR in Cazic. Though I spent several levels
there (mainly in the TR), killing many pages and
I can't say I saw more than a handful (3 or 4)
of them drop.

I must say you were quite lucky to get the bear
in an hour. Being a cleric (we also have to
camp that stupid bear) I envy you =)

LOL! the same exact thing happened to me... I am level 21, and i went to cazic just cuz a really good friend of mine didnt have a healer in her group, we killed a page, and there it was, no one knew what it was for including me (people always talk about the pelt, so i guess i just forgot about it) then i come here na VWALA.. i have this "very rare" part of the quest. But i only have one problem now, i dont have enough money to buy the dufrenites for the totemic! i have all the peices for the legs and bracers, and now half of helm, but only 90pp in the bank! guess ill have to harvest some tent whips and things in najena =)

I'm a lvl 33 Shaman, My GF is a lvl 30 SK, we have been camping in CT for the past 7 lvl's off and on in search of her decayed, currently we need 3 more pieces to the luck of having 12 Crusaders spawn in a 6hr block (our day off). I'm sure you're asking by now what this has to do with the Totemic helm. Well in my many hours in CT (awsome place for xp if you have a good group.) I have seen the page drop the Ogerskin Chamois around 15 times, luckily I was reminded the other night from my ranger friend that I needed it for my Totemic helm '/em slaps forhead.' I should have known this. Anyways I got one for myself without too much trouble. My suggestion is to head to CT around 30-32 and get into a group for the xp let everyone know that you need the item if it drops if you're there just to get xp you wont notice how many times it doesn't drop and just start noticing how fast your xp bar is moving. in 6hrs I was able to lvl twice 32-33. Of course I had an awsome group, thanks Xankar, Mystre, Kazar, Seravosk, Fineghal, and anyone else that has played with us over the last few days in CT. Now for that bear -)

I've found that the pyramid is a better place to camp in around mid to late level 20s. Exp in a large group is good, and the lizard pages seem to spawn here and there at all 4 corners of the base of the pyramid. I've found that the pyramid is much easier to camp than the TR due to the space between mobs as opposed to a whole room full of 15-20 mobs and a couple of named mobs.

Wow.

I am extremely lucky. Went into the cavern without a clue (except look out for lich) and there was the bear.

Pet and I smoked him down. Bound there, got my helm and gated back next day (Early I think) - well bear was up AGAIN! Got a second pelt.

I cannot offer any constructive advice except to stay away from the North West corner of the Cave as that is where the Lich always hung out when I was down there.

And as has already been noted - he is a bad ***.

cave bear sucks =)
# Aug 10 2000 at 6:44 AM Rating: Excellent
Here's my notes on the bear. He is possibly the worst creature to camp in the game. You can expect to be camping him straight for a week.

My friend and I moved our alternate characters into the cave. We left them there and continued to play our main characters for a few days until the server went down for a patch. Taking advantage of this, we got on the server as soon as we could as it came back up. There are two placeholders for the bear, both are wandering Icebones. As both of our characters could track, we just sat in the cave and tracked to see if any of the 7 icebones within range were moving. Then we maneuvered past the lich and killed them. Then we noted the time. After this we camped our characters and waited six hours. We logged on and "claimed" our rights to the bear. The best place to wait for it is in Sulon's room. It will spawn either in the middle of the room, or right near Sulon. Once the bear spawns, you will have to avoid the lich, and watch out for Sulon, a level 51 paladin searching for the dusty jawbone got slaughtered by him in about 5 seconds after walking too close to him.

I would not suggest camping this bear with your main character(shaman). The reason for this is simple. The cave is very dangerous, things can go wrong fairly quick. And you won't be able to depend on SoW or gate if Sulon or the Lich decides to kill you. We could afford the death of our alternate characters if we messed up.

Some things to note:

This camp will suck! We started it just after our server came back up after patch. Killed both place holders. For the next 5 days, we logged every 6 hours, "claimed" our spawn, and waited about an hour (the camp is an average 7 hours. We timed it exactly, but it would always be no more than 8 hours after the last kills, and no less than 6 hours). Starting at noon, going for 5 days, here an average time of how our camp went:

12 (right after patch) 2 icebones
7pm 2 wandering icebones
2am 2 wandering icebones

9am 2 wandering icebones
4pm "
11pm "

6am "
1pm "
8pm "

3am "
10am "
5pm "

12am "
7am BEAR SPAWNED the other spawn was a placeholder
9am Server went down for scheduled maintenance

If you add up the hours, that's over 14 hours of waiting on the placeholders.
The thing that makes the camp so terrible is that if you do it like we did, you will suffer from accute fatigue only getting about 5 hours sleep in between each spawn. We used multiple family members to help camp this. Another nasty thing is that sometimes the bear doesn't drop the pelt. If this happened to us, I'd think I'd cry. I have heard some say that the bear isn't that rare, but we observed about 26 placeholders. Other websites say the bear spawns one in 4. But not ours.

YOUR BIGGEST FEAR if you attempt to do this as we have, will be the danger of server going down, resetting the spawn, a zone repop, missing a spawn and losing the timing of it, or losing the spawn to someone who arrived earlier than you.

Did I mention Kill Stealers?

We had several people threaten to take the camp out from under us. Luckily they didn't know the timing so we always had the advantage. When we did finally get the bear, another higher level shaman was standing right next to us. We were worried he might get greedy and KS it, but he did not. Nor did he heal us =) in hopes that we would die. But, we got the pelt and had the helmet after a short 5 hour camp in Cazic Thule temple for the chamoise. I hope this info helps any that are attempting to get it. Make a temporary character in the cave to check the spawn every couple of days. It seems we saw the most competition at odd early morning hours (I guess they expected it wouldn't be camped then) and at one point there was actually a line to wait to camp him. I think this is one of those camps where you just get lucky and see it. Don't do it like we did =) Best way to get this helm is to trade for it =)

I didn't have this problem at all. The first time I got him I just wandered in and there he was (ok, I was REAL lucky).

The second time, I killed the wandering icebone (could only find ONE) at 3:30pm, and went back at 11:30pm. Sense animal pointed me right to him. I have read he's an 8 hour spawn after you kill the wandering ice bones.

I have seen Sulon, but he doesn't wander so I just stay away from him. I have not seen the Lich.
A trick for off time players
# Aug 06 2000 at 6:09 PM Rating: Good
I just got the pelt off the Glacial Bear. Sure there are lots of guides like parking a ranger in the cave to check for him. But I found as way to do it that works great for that casual player that is on during the off hours.

First of all hang around EF for a few days and note who is there. At some point, a high level player will be in the zone, usually a shaman, that is not hunting Ice Giants. Note the time they come in and the time they leave. This gives you a clue to when the bear or PHer will be up during the off times. When they get their pelt they will be gone usually and that is your chance to get the totemic helm.

Bind yourself near the ice goblin diver near the cave entrance and head off to a place where you can solo effectively and not be too concerned about dying, like the aviaks in SK, even mammoths or icey orcs if a group is there. I got Martar 2x also at level 33 when checking on him, sold one cloak and kept the other for Vox raids later. When that time rolls around, gate back and check the caves out. It took me a while to get the bear but eventually you will even with casual gamer's hours, I usually play less than 4 hours a day for example.

The bear wanders in one direction and the lich in the other from what I have seen. Scout the cave in a counter clockwise direction. The lich goes in this direction and should he be up, you will be coming up behind him and that gives you plenty of opprotunity to avoid him instead of running head on into him. Since the bear goes the other direction, it makes it easier and safer to scout for him. If you run into a wandering icebone, kill it. Sure you will miss the next spawn BUT that just benefits you in the long run. If the next guy 8 hours later gets the bear, big deal! He will just be gone and lessens the chance that he will be there when you come back.

This is what worked for me. I started checking on him late in level 32 and when I hit 34 and went and got my spells, the next morning he was up. I didn't even summon a pet, just rooted him and tossed scourge, affliction, and envemoned breathe 2x and he was dead.

That was the biggest rush I had in the game in a LONG LONG time and considering I also have a 50 warrior, that says something.
Lich
# Jul 14 2000 at 4:20 PM Rating: Decent
For those that haven't heard, the Lich is a 45th level Necro with a 35th level Skel pet. The lich is VERY powerful and has wiped out SEVERAL 50+ level parties. I would HIGHLY rec. that you bring either a Ranger (Good) or a Druid (better) who can track. Only reason that the Druid is better (Even though skill in tracking will be less) is that he can Gate when you do, so you don't have to feel bad about leaving someone behind (I don't like doing that but it is better that ONE person die than two, harsh as that sounds).
Get a Cleric to Help
# Jul 10 2000 at 6:41 PM Rating: Decent
The glacier bear also drops an ingot necessary for Cleric quest armor. I spent most of the 40 hours straight that I spent in the cave talking to various clerics as they came through looking for the bear. (Ok, I had some help....I wasnt up for 40 hours straight myself) Thank god that the Lich never showed up while I was there. This quest is insane....but VERY worthwhile for the patient Shaman.
3 hours??
# Jul 03 2000 at 3:36 PM Rating: Decent
the glaciar bear is on approx 8 hour spawn with it's place holders. Divide that by the percentage of glaciar belt spawning instead of the placeholders. That amount is the "least" amount of time needed to complete the quest.

Whoever bought that helm for 800pp got away with highway robbery. The only time I've even seen one at auction, they wanted 2000pp. I guess it's a matter of being at the right place at the right time. That's the moral of EverQuest. :)

As far as I'm concerned, it's priceless. Which makes it all the more special since I quested for it myself. Got the pelt last night. :)

The helm is the best part of the shaman armor for sure. The quest to get it is infact horendous in the time it takes. The spawn time is 8 hours average on the bear or his skellie PH. basically you will have to kill, eat, sleep then log on to kill etc. else you just have to be plain lucky or have no social life :)
I actually bought my helm for 800pp in the ned from someone who accidentally saw the bear and killed it :)
And indeed the pelt isn;t dropped always, but most of the time.
Hope this doesn;t put anyone off :)
