This quest is for the Shadowknight spell Life Leech.

It begins with Kazzel D`Leryt in the Mountains of Rathe (he roams the southeast part, south of the Feerrott zoneline), who will not speak with you unless you are at least level 50.

If you are not level 50, here is his response.

Kazzel D`Leryt says, 'Begone you pathetic bug. You are not worthy of my presence.'

If you are level 50 and above,

Kazzel D`Leryt says, 'Finally, a servant worthy of my needs! Apparently you are of high status, which perhaps means you might know a master [jeweler] capable of faceting a very magical, yet fragile stone?'

You say, 'jeweler'

Kazzel D`Leryt says, 'You must provide me with 2000 platinum pieces as a deposit, then you must take this stone to a master jeweler or [Darfumpel], have it faceted and return it to me along with an orb of pure crystal, a gold necklace the color of snow, and the [blood of Xenyari]. Do that and I will provide you with magic beyond that of most knights of darkness.'

He tells evil-aligned characters to give him 2,000pp in exchanged for an Uncut Hyacinth to be etched by a gnome shopkeeper named Darfumpel (also in the Mountains of Rathe). He tells you the gnome does not like the necromantic arts, so you will have to conceal your identity when dealing with him. Despite this warning, most evil characters seem to be able to talk to Darfumpel without a problem.

  • Give him 2000pp.

    Upon turn in:

Kazzel D`Leryt says, 'Very well, ______. Take this gem to a master jeweler and return it to me with the other three items.'

Kazzel tells you to bring back: - (Need this dialog)

    1) The Faceted Hyacinth;

    2) A gold necklace like the purest snow (the White Gold Necklace found on the Froglok Noble in Lower Guk);

    3) An orb of the purest crystal (the Crystalline Orb from the Stone Spider in Nagafen's Lair); and

    4) The blood of Xenyari the druid. He tells you that the blood must be voluntarily given by Xenyari, so killing her will not suffice.

    You say, 'blood of Xenyari'
Kazzel D`Leryt says, 'Xenyari is a druid who inhabits these parts. She is rarely seen, however, I require a droplet of her blood. Here is the catch though, and one for which you may be well suited if you desire magic of the knights of darkness - Xenyari must give of herself willingly. In other words, you cannot take her blood by force. Rather, she must give you her blood of her own accord.'

To get the Faceted Hyacinth, talk to Darfumpel. An Ogre SK worshiping Cazic-Thule, he will con indifferent to you.

    You say, 'Hail, Darfumpel Zirubbel'

Darfumpel Zirubbel says, 'Hail, Thiccboi. I am Darfumpel, master jeweler and proprietor of this shop. How might I assist you today? Perhaps you need a stone [cut] or some jewelry [repaired]?'

    You say, 'hyacinth'

Darfumpel Zirubbel says, 'A hyacinth, eh? That is quite a rare stone. Quite fragile and easily shattered, too. With my new technique, I can assure you I will not destroy the gem, however, it will cost you. 1000 platinum coins is my fee. Provide me with the coin and the gem and I will cut it for you.'

  • Give him a hyacinth and 1,000pp.

Darfumpel Zirubbel says, 'I have not seen a gem such as this in quite some time! It was not since I dabbled in a bit of necro? Wait? What are you going to use this for? Never mind. I do not wish to know. Here, take your gem and leave!'

    You receive a Faceted Hyacinth.

You may also do the combine yourself in a jewelry kit, trivial is at 235 and the Gem Cutter is not returned, even on failure. - (Recipe)

To get the blood you must bring Xenyari Lisariel a Prickly Pear. The prickly pear drops off of an ice terror, one of Lady Vox's guardians. Be careful and place it deep in your inventory or you might eat it before you return it. As you hand in the pear:

    You say, 'prickly pear'

Xenyari Lisariel says, "Prickly Pears! I just love Prickly Pears!! Thank you so much for getting these for me. I really, really appreciate your gift and I shall not OWW!! I hate when I stick myself with the needles. Oh look, I am bleeding now. Sigh. Can you hold this note for a moment please? My hands are full and I must clean up."

You receive a Bloodied Piece of Parchment.

  • Take the Faceted Hyacinth, note, necklace, and orb to Kazzel. In exchange, he gives you a Faceted Hyacinth Talesm.

Upon turn in of the items.

Kazzel D`Leryt says, 'Quickly now, give me the rest of the ingredients for the telesm...'
Kazzel D`Leryt says, 'Quickly now, give me the rest of the ingredients for the telesm...'
Kazzel D`Leryt says, 'Quickly now, give me the rest of the ingredients for the telesm...'
Kazzel D`Leryt says, 'You are quite cunning. After I fashion this telesm, take it back to Xenyari. She would 'enjoy' another 'gift,' eh?'

You receive a Faceted Hyacinth Talesm.

  • Take this item to Xenyari.

    Upon turn in,

Xenyari Lisariel bounces around with glee at the sight of your gift, smiles at you, and dons the telesm. As she clasps the telesm around her neck, she begins to writhe in agony, and slowly fades from sight leaving just the telesm, which is now pulsating with vibrant energy.

  • Loot Pulsating Hyacinth Telesm from Xenyari's corpse and bring it to Kazzel D`Leryt.

Kazzel D`Leryt laughs heartily and whispers to you, 'Well done, worm, your servitude to my will has now expired...'

  • Upon turn in a level 53 zombie called "a monstrous zombie" spawns and attacks. Kill it, loot a Monstrous Zombie Heart, and give it to Kazzel to receive your spell.

Kazzel: Kazzel D`Leryt says, 'Oh! Umm... Well, I was just playing with you. Certainly you know I was joking! We had a deal and I will abide by the terms of our agreement. Here is my payment for your services. Bye...'

Read the post below called Icy Terror?

It is dead on, no pits needed. One group of high 40s to low 50s can do it. You just got to fight your way to the hallways with the pits in them. The terror is at the end of the hallway with no pit in it so no lev is necessary. I got the pear right away.

It's easier to get the pear just by waiting till 53 and walking in solo. If you run into any problems fighting the terrors just go say hello to Naggy and get ported out.
    prickly pear not so common
    # May 03 2002 at 5:04 AM Rating: Default
i just began the quest tonight. we took 3 groups into perma, the pear dropped on the 5th terror. Not exactly what i would call common. fortuneltly for us vox was already killed. so we didnt have to go into the pit traps. we finally got the pear off an icy terror behind a door right next to the lair entrance, from the inside. my suggestion to you..go in soon after a vox raid..with an overpowered group. Now i'm off for the rest of the items. hope they dun take as long as this god forsaken prickly pear.
    Orb is used

Does anyone know if the Crystalline Orb has to have the 5 charges of Eye of Zomm?
I bought one off the vendor in Lavastorm (after having unsuccessfully trying to camp it) and it has no charges. Would hate to botch this quest since I have already put out the 3k starting it.

I don't know about you guys, but the pear was the easiest for me to get because i was at a Vox raid (fail because she RAN with a pixel of hp left and aggroed giants to the casters bind spots) and people pulled the terrors to get to Vox. Heck, most peeps didn't even know what they were for. The pears are ONLY LORE, but they are a "snack" and me being a troll didn't make me feel any more comfortable. That orb was the toughest for me because it was train-tastic in Solb when i tried it. We camped the SS for a couple hours, but it never spawned. Our necro died and the monk draggin his corpse to a cleric died on the way, so we evac'ed out. After about an hour and four rezes, the camp was retaken by someone else. However, I told him i was looking for the orb, and just when i was about to call it a night the dude yelled, "Orb!" and he ran it to zone and gave it to me. You can call the luck. Orb is ONLY LORE. The noble was a piece of cake. Now, all i have to do is get 5 more levels to start the quest.
    3k is worth it

most of you forget that this spell came out BEFORE kunark and the other expansions where the previous level cap was 50. and at 50 you can only drain 75hp, so with this spell you could drain 200something hp and thats why the recycle time is so long. but it may not seem worth it now because we get a 200 something hp drain at 58 or so now. I will still go and do this quest just because it takes so friggin long to get to 58 :P

Good point there, I may as well set off swimming across the ocean to level 58. But in the meantime it would be nice to be more bouyant, hence the LifeLeech spell. Its a great spell that will allow us Sks to drain life like a necro, as well as fearing and snaring.
And with alt advancement skills at 51, who knows what will happen between now and level 58.

I just began the quest. Starting with noble, who did not show after clearing the room 4 times, so we ( 56 cleric, 56 wiz and me)went to kill the Fogluk King who is pretty tuff.

I will continue on it soon , thanks for the information here. Send me a tell any time on Zeboxurok.

Just wanted to put it out that I finished this quest today. WOW, is a great spell. I used this site for alot of my referencing and want to say thanx to you all for posting. In my case it was not too tough to do. The three items outside of Rathe Mountain that you have to collect was not so bad.
I had a 5min camp on Stone spider, and dropped the Orb. Full Group enroute to Naggy Raid.

25 min camp on the Froglok noble, the longest camp in this for me, and dropped the necklace. Full group of Guildies to keep the area clear and camp king room too.

How ever long it takes to get back to the traps going down to the polar bears and to kill one icy terror, dropped pears first time. We killed the one up at the traps, not down in the polar bear caves. Full group of ppl was a must here, ranged from lvl 43 to 57.

The final mob, the monstrous zombie, seemed a little tougher at first when me and a 55 druid tryed to kite it. The zombie does summon, and upon first spawning, hits u really hard. First hit took me to half, but not sure what the spell was. Me and druid died, but came back and he was still up, fortunately. My druid friend logged and I recruited 4 ppl from in zone. Everyone was lvl 50+ and there were two ppl from outside the group that helped also.

The second time facing the zombie was easier by far. If any of you were there helping btw, THANX!!!

Good luck to you other SK's that go for this, it really is worth it in my opinion. Off to maybe start our epic now!!!

    I just have a question:
How is a spell like this worth 3kpp? I mean if it is like 30sec recycle then it might be worth it but I just don't see it costing that much. With throw in another 2kpp and you can go shopping for a nice weapon upgrade.

So someone tell me a few good reasons why this spell is worth 3kpp and the time invested.

I was rummaging through my links and came back across this one. After reading some of the posts, I thought I would post an additional comment concerning the worth of this spell.

When I was 52, I went to the Fear portal and began to solo Cyndrella. Pet attack, darken, boil blood, swing a few times (and bash to interrupt), when she's at half, cast life leech. At that point, she is low enough (or just about) that she turns to run. Yes, that 280 pts makes a serious difference. Each fight took 1 bubble of hp (after leeches) and 2-3 bubbles of mana. Sit to heal and med, by the time she spawns again (6 minutes), you are back to full.

As I was leaving, I watched another 52 sk start to camp her. Halfway into the fight, he started yelling for help. After helping him, he asked my tactics. When I told him, he said "I don't have that life leech." Keep in mind that during a fight such as this, that's a 560 pt swing.

Do I think it's still worth it? Yup. At 55, I am still using it with other taps.
RE: Someone tell me this spell is worth it
    # Apr 27 2002 at 12:36 PM Rating: Default
that lvl 52 sk who started to camp cyndrella musta really sucked. i can solo cyndrella at lvl 49 without a pet (only cuz i havent bought it being an iksar and all, its not available in my hometown)and i am only wearing dreadscale armour. I do have a soulbinder which will heal me for 150hp over 15 seconds but thats it. 280 damage that takes 2.5 seconds to cast and 2mins to recast? soulbinder is doing about 190-240 on average every 4 seconds or so. (yeh im ghetto lizard i dont have haste) i have no problem killing her i just fear off her pet with invoke fear which gives me about 48 seconds to do some damage and as shes getting close to halfway i have to fear off her pet again. at this point i have somewhere between 1/4-1/2 hp, depending on how many times soulbinder proc'd. she turns to flee as my fear wears off on her pet. i just let him bash on me for a few rounds as i kill her. pets easy so by the time the fight is done i have about 1/4 life still because the soulbinder seems to proc like mad when stuff starts running. after i kill the pet i just run around smashing the little skelys runnin around which will get me back to full hp from soulbinder procs. WEWT! IF ONLY I HAD MY POF ARMOUR!

here's a good tactic with any pet class mob... after the master is dead... Feign Death clears agro and since the pet will have no master and no agro... pet goes POOF!

Any pet will go poof if its master is dead and there's no agro on it... so use your Feign Death.... unless whooping her pet and using Lifetaps is your strategy...

I can understand the concern people have with spending 3k on this spell. All I can tell you is that it has (1) either saved my life or (2) reduced my downtime MANY, MANY times.
I can tell you, from my experience, that my mana recovers much more quickly than my HP. Even though this spell costs 1 full bubble of mana, I can cast this spell on a moss snake and get 280 hp, then either med or go about my business while mana recovers.
I keep this spell and siphon life memmed. I often use this spell as kind of a finisher near the end of a battle. MOB is nearly dead, cast this, suck up 280pts, kill mob, then rest/med til next fight.
Some say don't waste the time and money on this spell, some say make sure you get it and you'll be glad you did. I happen to be one of the people who think this spell is great. I have not heard from one SK that has this spell that wishes he/she had spent the money elsewhere. I certainly understand the arguments for spending cash somewhere else though.

I have seen a few posts about the icy terrors in Permafrost. Please take a look at my longer post below in reference to this.

Many people have talked about going into the pits or near Vox to get the icy terrors. That is NOT necessary. When I got my prickly pear, there were only 4 of us there. 1 Healer, 1 Chanter, myself and a ranger... all about lev 50.

BTW, when you are ready to hand everything in and face the big skelly, organize everybody at the Rathe Mtn zone in from Feerott and watch how many passers-by ask if they can help. We started out organizing one full group and a couple of extras (which would have been plenty), and while we were organizing groups, we had about 9 more people come ask if they could help. By the time we hit Kazzel, we had almost 3 full groups of 50-57.

Oh, and just to let everyone know, "YES" you want this spell. It's a 280pt lifetap that recycles in 3-5 minutes. I'm guessing, I've never really timed it. I just know that you won't get 2 off in one fight unless it's a long fight, but it recycles fairly quickly. It does take a full bubble of mana from me though with 148 int. Just in case, I keep this one and Siphon Life memmed.

Give me a tell in game on CT server, and I'll be glad to give you any info I've got.

    Nope.

    Scroll is NO DROP.

You can look at the scroll [link=everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=6788]here.[/link]

There is also a link above, where the reward is shown!

You could always try multiquesting it. Since the scroll is NO DROP, you don't really have anything to lose.

Well i got all the items and like a few posts said the pear is the hardest after two trips to permafrost i just gave up. We had about 3 Groups all mostly 50 plus. The Higher ones tried to pull and agroed vox and got booted the lower ones agroed vox and got killed. I was very fustrated and just though what the hell i'll go to EC and buy on. After 4 Days and countless jokes about it from newbs and such i managed to get one and paid 2K for it. I know what u are thinking very expensive right. Well i guess more and more SK's out there are going for this now and the word is out on what the pear is used for. Anyways i went yesterday and did the quest up to the point where i need to turn the final necklace into the necro and am waiting on some guild help. Anyone know exactly how strong this guys is. Some say one good group can take him others say u need two. Any info will greatly help. I WANT THIS SPELL!!!!! ( if i didn't i wouldn't have forked out 5K for it ) Well any help would be great. Thx) Btw none of the items are no drop )

Yes, one GOOD group can take him down. Like I said in my earlier post, we had 2 groups of 50-57 and owned him easily.
If you had one GOOD group of 52-55, you should have no problems. Standard group of couple of tanks, cleric, rogue, caster should do fine.

I'm writing to ask about the Froglock Noble. I've been hunting in Lguk since i was like lvl 35 and have never seen him. They say he is in a room by the lord and i would just like to know if anyone knows exactly where he is. I'm only lvl 45 now but want to start getting some of the stuff for the quest now so it is easier when i get up to lvl 50. I think from what i read this spell really is needed in a SK's ******* and would really appriciate the help. Thx Much.

He is not anywhere near the lord...i am assuming you refer to the ghoul lord. He is on live side. You need to go past the minotaurs and around the hairpin turn to the jail. There is a cell and maybe 3 frogs in the jail. Go down the hallway just south of the jail. Set up camp in this hallway, near the torch or light or whatever it is.

Further down the hall is a plank going across the stream. The noble spawns on the plank, then wanders across the stream into the little room. Keep killing the 6 or so frogs here and eventually he will pop.

He is a pain. He popped for me on the second spawn...dropped the damn cloth. Then it took another 25 spawns before he popped again with the orb.

    Icy Terrors?

I will have the necklace and orb shortly and will begin to plan to get the pear with some guild help. I have seen several things around the net about where to find icy terrors, including the post by Kardvyne about dropping into the polar bear traps. I have very little experience in Perma and have found it difficult to find a map that shows where these traps are and more details about what's down there. Could someone please direct me where to go to find a detailed map or post some more info?

Update - Just finished the quest.

You can find Kazzel wandering around by the undead ruins in Rathe Mtns. Just stand on top of the hill looking down on the ruins and keep watching, you'll see him.

Darfumpel is in a hut near the Inn, and conned indifferent to me. Had no trouble getting him to talk to me or etch the stone.

Although there are some Icy Terrors down in the pits with the polar bears, it is NOT necessary to go down there. Get a map to Permafrost. Kill Diplomat and the first couple of giants behind him. Do not go past the gate in Diplomat's room. Instead, take the passage to the right. You will see a giant wooly spider. Pull him to your awaiting friends in the king room. If you get poisoned, don't worry, it's weak. Go back down that hall towards the pit traps. Pull the Magus to your friends in the king room. Next, be very careful and follow your map, avoiding the pit traps. Follow the hallways that DO NOT have pit traps and you should find an icy terror. If you hit him and run back the direction you came, you can pull him to king room also. This is much easier than trying to keep a group from falling in the pits. Lev really helps if you can get it. Be careful to hit the terror once and begin to run down a hall with no traps because they will fling you across the room like the TT's in Najena, and if they fling you into a pit trap, you're a goner.

Xenyari runs around the unkempt druid rings. Might take you a few minutes to find her, but keep running around up there, she's there.
When you give the talisman to Xenyari and it kills her, it does NOT aggro any druids, so no worries there.

We had severe overkill on the Monstrous Zombie (who looks like a Giant Skel). I talked to several people who said that they killed him with one well balanced 50+ group. We had 2 full groups of 50-57 and owned him. Be careful that your party does NOT target Kazzel.

If anyone has questions, contact me on CT server.

Was a difficult quest, but completed it this weekend. One thing I found a bit different is that the gnome who you give them gem to conned indifferent to a DE Shadowknight. Some have said that you must hide your identity, but this was not true for me. I just walked up and gave him the stone and 1k and it was no problem. The spell is an excellent insta-taunt in a crucial situation and the casting time is not nearly as long as some would say. The recycle time is quite long, but believe me you DO NOT want to keep chain-casting this in a group situation. Its a mana burner, and the taunt factor is extremely high. This can work for you or against you depending on your group composition and general strategy. Overall, I think this spell is awesome and well worth the time and PP investment. I have found two really good uses of it so far.

1.Solo- Finish off the kite with this to recover lost HP while trying to get fears off

2.Group- Saving your neighborhood Enchanter when a mez goes bad. HT + Life leech= come beat on me now please.

Greetings fellow Shadow Knights of Everquest.

I am pleased to say that I have just completed this quest and would like to offer some tips.
THe pear is obviously the toughest item to come by. My suggestion to get it is to take a well made group lvls 50-54 and drop into the polarbear traps where there are several ice terrors. thn get out when done. Also remember that the monstrous zombie resists all the fear and spook spells completely and it is best to hack him down, again one group lvls 51-54 can accomplish this easily.

Hmmm. Caster's Realm's decription of the zombie says that it is easily kitable. However if it cannot be feared, how is this true? Well I'll be finishing the quest sometime this week, so I'll post back when I can confirm one way or the other.
