Kyralynn is in the Barbarian Fishing Village.

You say, ‘Hail Kyralynn’

Kyralynn says, ‘Hello, ! I am the shaman Kyralynn. If you have banded armor, my husband Vrynn and I can form it into a new shaman armor using this totem and some reagents for the ritual. I can use a banded [bracer], [mail], [helm] or [cloak] to form this new armor.’

You say, ‘cloak’

Kyralynn says, ‘The cloak requires a banded cloak, 1 powdered dufrenite, basalt drake scales, and a driftwood pipe from an isle goblin chieftan.’

  1. Banded Cloak
  2. Powdered Dufrenite
  3. Driftwood Pipe (rare drop from isle goblins in the Ocean of Tears) and
  4. Basalt Drake Scales (from a drake or a basalt drake in Rathe Mountains)

Dufrenite is occasionally, although rarely, dropped by carrion ghouls in Unrest and Clockworks in Solusek's eye and also can be purchased in the magic shops in various cities including Halas, W Karanas, Rivervale, Grobb and Ogguk for 150 to 200 pp each depending upon your faction and charisma. The ogre shaman Trug in the camp on the other side of the lake will crush/grind/powder it for you. Banded armor is made with the blacksmithing skill.

Driftwood Pipe
# Jun 17 2013 at 9:58 AM Rating: Decent
While camping the Isle Goblin Chieftan I haphazardly killed a regular isle goblin and he dropped the driftwood pipe. Prior to this I had killed literally hundreds in all varieties of isle goblins on the islands west and south of Sister's Island with no luck. Irony would have it that when I finally found the chieftain's spawn (+2260 by -5660) he dropped nothing and the very next goblin would have the pipe.

This wasn't as bad as Grizzlerot of course, and not half as bad as the Ogreskin Chamios which after 20 page kills still has not dropped.

Medium?
# Mar 15 2002 at 2:51 AM Rating: Default
What does a master smith gotta do? Anyhow, this quest calls for a medium banded cloak. This item does not exist so please don't give any smiths a hard time when they tell you so. The item is called, simply, "Banded Cloak." By medium all is meant is what races can equip it; the medium races. This has nothing to do with the SIZE: attribute either. Some of the banded pieces you will use in totemic armor are SIZE: SMALL. It doesn't matter. As long as the item is called only "Banded Cloak," you are fine. A shaman took a big risk to prove this and it turns out I am right. So, if you can, when a smith tells you he can make medium banded cloaks and they don't say that, don't give him a hard time. Thank you.

I got the scales on the first attempt - but I killed
"a Drake" not an obsidian or basalt as its says. Every obsidian and basalt in rathe has dropped squat whilst this "drake" has dropped the scales so hope that helps.

Agreed. I probably spent 10 hours getting the Totemic Cloak and then went to Permafrost to kill the Goblin Wizard for one of the other Totemic quests. The Alchemist (whose placeholder is a Wizard) twice dropped the Mammoth Hide Cloak, one of which I kept for myself and the other which I sold for ~1200pp. Then I sold my Totemic Cloak for 200pp. Wish I'd gone to Permafrost first.

Ok, I was lucky on the pipe, but the scales are crazy. I was on the boat in OOT looking for the chief when I saw a guildmate was in the zone. Turns out he was one island away and the chief was up. He snared the Chief and kept him engaged while I swam to the island. I killed the chief easily, and he dropped the pipe. Now, I'm paying for that luck with these Drake Scales. I have spent countless hours killing everything in sight at drake hill in Rathe Mountains. Lizard men, Basilisks, all kinds of Drakes... I can get a Basalt Drake to pop every 20 to 30 minutes doing that. But those scales are very rare. Over 20 kills so far and no drops. Twelve of those kills were today! So, since I still don't have the scales my Shaman will be wearing one of the Icebear Cloaks that I looted while waiting for that ridiculous Glacier Bear in Everfrost.

One more thing, the Breastplate may not have any wis. but it does have a worn effect of Extended enhancement II which helps out a lot when you're the main healer as well as the buffer), adds 15% to the duration of the buffs! Very nice)

That "rediculous" glacier bear really is one of the only mobs having anything to do with Totemic quests that is worth looking for considering you get a nice a/c on the helm as well as 5 wis. Just camp a traker type inside the tunnel ent and check it everytime you log on, chances are in about a week or less he will pop and you will even have time to get a higher char there if the tracker iis to low as was my situation. For my shammy, he was a very easy dark blue to kill, just dot and root and nuke). Get a party for the chamoi in the Ferrot though, Just to much going on there to make it effective to solo, although you don't need a big group, just healer and melee will work.

I was looking around the various islands last night, while waiting for Wiltin Windwalker on Seafury (70 minute spawn time with PH). I noticed the headmaster and chieftain on tracking, and headed over.

The headmaster dropped a gem, the chieftain dropped a gem and this pipe. I didn't know what it was for, so I looted it. The chieftain then respawned about 5 minutes later, but by then I had moved on. He certainly doesn't seem rare to me, and apparently is a PH for himself.

The pipe is obviously 100% useless to me - I'd be happy to chain it to anyone who's having trouble getting it.

Or Buy his cloak from Players for as low as 60 PP.
Let's see,a few hours of camping everfrost nets you an AC 8, +20 Cold, +10 HPs cloak, or spend three days, and 250 PLAT (for the gem) trying to get this AC 10, +5 Sta cloak that you can simply buff yourself to make up for the stats.

For the life of me, I don't know why the Totemic Quest only offers you one +wis item

waited for about 4 hours, and no chief spawned.
was across from island where boat drops ya off, first stop from freeport, had a tracker even but no spawn..was this the wrong island perhaps. was one straight from the "sisters" island. Help would be nive thx.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 22 2001 at 8:36 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This quest is by far the dumbest. Basalt drakes never spawn. I've ran around killing everything for hours at a time only to see on or two spawn. And then, these never drop the scales. I've probably killed 10 basalt drakes thus far without so much as a thank you from Verant for wasting my precious time. Also, watch out for the rare, high level drake spawns. Nothing like getting hit by Wrath of God for 500 dd. Skip this quest.. it's a joke.

That is why when you see a high level shaman, they get great respect from most of the people, especially ones that have a younger shaman that either they are having some discoragements, or just haven't been able to get them higher yet. I really started enjoying mine in the mid to later 20's, and it has gotten better ever since. The fact that they made the Rallic available also made a big impact on me, I was able to finance my alchemy to get a better return on my efforts as well as equip myslef better. This was my 4th char when I made him, and now he is my 40th level main)

Enjoy and good luck to all past, present and future shamans! Shammies RULE!

I got two pipes in about ten kills of the chieftain.

The drake was a bit harder to get since it wasnt a static spawn. I ran around and killed the lower level ones to get the basalt drakes to spawn...be sure to have fire resists up or you will get burned:) The scale dropped on about the fifth basalt drake i killed.

I now use the imbrued northman ring cloak which much better than the totemic imho.

Here are my takes on this quest and the wisdom vs. AC debate. Take them for what they're worth.

I'm doing the quest for the Totemic Cloak only because I've done each and every one of the others (with some help from friends of course, but no multiquesting was involved), resulting in a full set of visible armor. I just want the satisfaction of finishing what I started. Ultimately, I'll upgrade it to a Mammoth Hide Cloak, if the alchemist is ever kind enough to keep his pants on and give me the cloak instead. :)

I want to fill all of my non-visible equipment slots with WIS-increasing items. My armor, however, stays put. Call it vanity if you like, but I like the way my complete set of visible Totemic Armor looks. Besides, once I get the equipment upgrades I want -- a plat ruby veil and the aforementioned cloak -- my WIS will be at 151 and my AC will be around 680 respectively, which I personally feel is a good balance between spellcasting ability, defensive skill, and good looks. :) Good enough for me, good enough for my regular group.

Yes, more powerful equipment is out there, and I will eventually feel the need to sacrifice one or more pieces of Totemic Armor to obtain it. My WIS will be at 200 by the time I hit the planes, the time when it matters the most. For now, though, this olive-green-plate-wearing shaman is just dandy. Even with a Totemic Cloak... for now. ;)

AC vs. WIS
# Oct 30 2000 at 4:52 AM Rating: Default
If your wis is over 200 all you need is ac but for shams its a little hard to get 200 than clerics or druids, the mammy cloak is about the same ac and has wis, much better than this over all, although ac is almost as worthy as wis losing two AC and 10hpish is well worth 4 wis especially for shamans
Wisdom Overrated??
# Sep 04 2000 at 12:43 AM Rating: Good
Bought this piece of equipment and will sell it as soon as I can buy a Molten or a Mammoth cloak.

Wisdom is NOT overrated. If you are not planning to be a 'melee' Shaman Wisdom is a huge priority.

The difference between a 130 wisdom and a 170 Wisdom is 400 points or so of mana.

That's 2 Greater Heals and a buff.

EACH BATTLE if you go to full med.

Shamans are measured in three areas: 1) How much damage they do (Melee, Dot's + DD); 2) How much damage they heal (Regen + Healing lines); 3) How much damage they PREVENT (Slow, debuffs)

If you think you are doing your party a favor by wading in with your gatorsmash and doing 400 points of damage to a MOB with 5k - think again.

Im with you , wisdom is a huge priority in my shamans career, in bearform as a lesser melee, mine is 201. The only reason I would keep the breastplate on is for the effect on my buffs, the extended ehancement II is really worth weraing it for. The only reason I am after the cloak is just to have the complete set and thats all I am lacking. The equipment that I use for most of my wisdom though is the Acrylia studded at the moment, pretty good stuff really.

Enjoy and good luck to all past, present and future shammies!)

Wisdom Overrated
# Jul 07 2000 at 10:37 PM Rating: Decent
I think the AC and STA are worth it, having a super high wisdom is overrated. Get in a good group, with a steady stream of exp, and how often do you have full mana? When I am in a good group, I rarely have more than a bubble or two mana between pulls. More wisdom is just mana storage. Good for soloing and nothing more. Just have to meditate longer.
My 2 cents.

The quest is such a disapointment. got the chieftian pipe and got killed by the Specter on the neighboring Island. Then went to Raith Mts for the scale and when trying to get the Scale was killed by Zazamo the high level drake.

For the increase in AC and stamania I will continue to wear my molten cloak which at least gives wis and int.

bottom line for risk and time not to mention price of the gem needed its not worth the effort.
