You'll find Nahas the Treasure Hunter in the northeastern part of the forest, /loc -942 -1200, along the wall and east of the zone out tree to Cobalt Scar. You can invis to him if you like.

You say, 'Hail, Nahas the Treasure Hunter'

Nahas the Treasure Hunter says 'Greetings to you my friend, visitors to this plane are not often seen. Let me introduce myself. I am the great Treasure Hunter Nahas! If you are able I could use some assistance in my current quest.'

You say, 'I will assist you.'

Nahas the Treasure Hunter says 'Well you see I recently purchased a strange device from this gnome that claimed it could find buried treasure anywhere. All I had to do was head here and find some mischief mushroom spores to power it and I would be set. The little problem I'm having is I can't seem to find any of the mushroom spores. If you could bring me four spores l'll fire it up and see if it works. Worry not I'll reward you whether or not any treasure is located.'

Kill mushrooms in the forest to get the spores. Drop rate is acceptable, spores aren't rare. Mushrooms are easy to solo. Give 4 Mischief Mushroom Spores to Nahas.

Nahas the Treasure Hunter says 'Most wonderful! Well here goes, hopefully this confounded device finds something.'

You gain party experience!!

Nahas the Treasure Hunter says 'Whoa, look at this thing go! There definitely has to be some treasure around this area somewhere. Better go find it before the juice runs out on this thing.'

"a buried treasure chest" spawns at the opposite end of the forest (far northwest, /loc?). It cons blue to level 65 and hits a 65 ranger with ornate/elem gear for 376 max. It summons and is kos. It's rootable, snareable and has low MR, if any.

You probably want to clear the area of skunks, bixies, shrooms, a white stallion and/or Lithiniath first if they are up.

Con: a buried treasure chest scowls at you, ready to attack -- he appears to be quite formidable.

On agro: a buried treasure chest edges forward as it gets ready to attack.

On death: a buried treasure chest has been slain by ______!

You gain party experience!!
a buried treasure chest's corpse ceases all movement as it falls in defeat.
You receive 6 platinum and 4 gold as your split.

The buried treasure chest has been known to drop various nice items, plus some cash (~18pp), or nothing at all.

Just did the 4 item turn in and got

"Drats it is indicating no treasure. Better luck next time I guess"

Took about 4 - 5 clearing of the whole tree area of the zone to get 4.

I want the boots for my shaman . So I collected the spores and gave it a try . No box spawned . I looked at the forum and saw that I should have cleared out the NW side of the zone . I collect the spores again and cleared out the NW and NE side of the forest ( Boxing my lvl70 Cleric and lvl70 War ) The box popped right by the npc . I killed it and got the sleeves . I don't want to try again for a while because the spores are rare . I may be back , but my shaman may be high enough to get the DoN aug or something better by then . The experience is good here even on lvl70 AAing it it's alright . I have better things to do tho and there is better experience and loot in other places . Good Luck .

The spores are NOT a common drop. More like 1 out 30-40 shrooms drop a spore. I have done the hand-in of 4 spores 10 times and have only had the chest spawn once (had the helm in it). I have done the hand-in with the NW corner cleared and not cleared. The one time the chest spawned was when I had the NW corner cleared, but the chest spawned in the NE corner-go figure. The chest is not all the hard. Not as hard as Bzzbu...(however you spell the named bee). Gonna keep trying the quest, trying to get the boots for my BST. It is super easy pulling to the ZI and good AA exp. Usually im alone in the zone.

The Buried Treasure Chest does spawn in the NW corner of the zone. First time I tried the turn in I got nothing. However, the next time I tried it, we cleared that corner first and the Buried Treasure Chest spawned. It could be that you have to have his spawn clear in order for the quest to work. Has anyone else noticed this? Or am I the only person still going to PoM on a regular bases? lol

Okies, got another 4 spores again today. Cleared the corner, and not chest. Kinda boggles the mind lol. I do have another 3 spores, and gonna be there for a while, exp is still good in PoM at 58. G'Luck on the quest :)

okay, I have done this quest 5 times, spawning the chest 3 of these times. It seems that it only spawns every other time. Although this last time, it did spawn a lot closer to the zone in. So it is possible that it picks a random location in the forest to spawn, and pops only if that place is clear. On the plus side, I did get me new boots for my druid :) http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=25410
Still Works

Completed this quest last night. Handed in just 4 mushrooms and then killed the chest which dropped a Gold Locket of Luck. Which wound up going to my cleric.

Just to warn anyone wanting to do this quest the chance of success seems slim, I have handed in the 4 mushrooms 4 times now and never gotten the chest to pop, I have 5 shrooms left and am afraid to even turn any in let alone farm more.

It may just be my terrible horrible terrible luck though. If you already have the shrooms not much else to do with them.

Mushrooms or Mushroom SPORES. My last raid there we got one SPORE in about 15 kills of mushrooms. So they are a little rarer than the quest text above says. I'm sure you know to make sure they aren't stacked as well.

This Buried Treasure quest dropped Steel Helm of Marvels last night. I don't see it on any lists but it is pretty sweet for my 60th pally. Thanks to Ugh and Zat for helping me.

New Drop?
# Dec 30 2003 at 7:47 AM Rating: Decent
I have been soloing here a lot, and have never seen a spores drop. Is it the Yellow or the red mushrooms?

EDIT: On 1/3/03 I got the ring. Mushrooms drop from both types of mushrooms.

Tonight we did this 2 times and got a nice pair of boots. I agree the quest sucks because it fizzles WAY to friggen much and the spores don't drop for crap either.

Yeah, its a pain to have a quest that doesnt work all the time... Just like stinkin PH waiting for a named to pop. i turned in quest mushrooms twice in a row yesterday and both times got the stupid drat, its indicating no treasure message. at first i didnt even read the message, i saw the xp message and went running looking for the mob, when i couldnt find him in zone and druid didnt have on track i scrolled back up to read message more carefully. then turned in 4 more shrooms and got same result :( very depressing, as i was wanting to get the boots and new it might take many kills to get it...
