Speak to Lynuga, a wandering troll in Innothule Swamp (usually found near the entrance to Guk).

You say, 'Hail, Lynuga'

Lynuga says 'Hrrump?! Who you? _____? What you want with Lynuga? Me am out [collecting]. Leave me be!'

You say, 'Collecting what?'

Lynuga says 'I collect all sorts of things. Gems be my favorite. Me really like rubies. If you have ruby, give to me! Why you want to know? You want to steal my collection?!?! I squish you if you do!!'

You can buy a Ruby from most jewelry vendors for about 131pp. Upon giving her a Ruby:

Lynuga says 'Mmm. Ruby!! Me thanks you! Here take this, me got it off dead someone who try take my collection. Me thinks this valuable thing..'
Your faction standing with Broken Skull Clan got better.
Your faction standing with Shadowknights of Night Keep got worse.
Your faction standing with DaBashers got worse.

You receive a random item:
Brutechopper
Ivandyr's Hoop
Midnight Mallet

The Hoop is the rarest of the rewards.

If you can do a quest with a troll, then getting into Neriak should be no problem. Inside Neriak (either the 3rd gate gem merchant or the one in Foreign quarter, on the troll/ogre side of town, I can't remember which), I believe they're 68pp & change.

Of course, now that I re-think that, it may've been a star ruby....

But if you're terribly bored, it's always an option to check out.

yes that is for a star ruby ... A Ruby will cost you around 125plat each... not exactly chump change.

The guy below who said she won't give you the hoop if you have the lore items on you is completely and totally wrong.

-Numbuk, who just got his hoop tonight after 7 rubies and no item destroying, dropping, or selling

Hello;

These are all good items, especially at lower lvl's. :)
Anywho, how much do these rubys go for these days?
They seem expensive from what i've read.

With good faction and high charisma, I think the cheapest you can buy a Ruby is 131PP.

Lore Items
# Oct 09 2001 at 10:05 PM Rating: Default
If you have the other items.. the quest won't work.. she's not forced to give you the hoop if you have a lore item already.. your best bet is to destroy the brutechopper or mallet as soon as you get them
Lore thing?
# Oct 05 2001 at 4:32 PM Rating: Decent
Im just wondering here. What do you get from Lynuga after you have already received the Brutechopper and the Midnight Mallet? From what I am reading she only gives out 3 things, but that makes no sense because they are all lore. Obviously there is some booby prize that is not being mentioned. If you have the other 2 items on you she would be forced to give you the Hoop. I dont understand. Someone who has done this quest please enlighten me here. What else does she give out?
RE: Lore thing?
# Jan 23 2002 at 9:17 AM Rating: Decent
Here is the way this seems to work: When you give her the ruby the server randomly decides which item it's going to hand you (with a greater probability of that being a Brutechopper or Midnight Mallet). It then tries to put it in your inventory. If you don't have one already it just sticks the item in an empty slot. If you already have that lore item.... tough luck. You get the "You cannot have duplicate lore items" message, and nothing happens.

There isn't a booby prize of any kind. If you don't sell the lore items before you hand in your next ruby there is a chance you simply won't get anything back.

After I checked this out I got on my lvl 28 troll warrior and tried this quest. Only took 5 tries and I got the hoop, no lie. I sold that hoop and did it again but it took almost half of the money I made by selling the first one, but I still came out well in the long run, now if I could just sell this second one?
how much will it cost?
# Aug 06 2001 at 9:25 AM Rating: Excellent
I have done the hoop quest 3 times now for friends (I have both tracking, and alot of patience). This is how many rubies it took:
first time - 39 rubies
second time - 43 rubies
Third time - 51 rubies (that one sucked)

I had a enchanter friend with ALLY faction, AND over 200 charisma buy the rubies for me. The lowest price that I know of that ANYONE can get for rubies is 131pp and change. (if anyone knows exactly where to get them cheaper by all means, enlighten us).

So, this is what we are looking at for costs:
first time 39 x 131pp = 5109pp
second time 43 x 131 = 5633pp
third time 51 x 131 = 6681pp
---------------------------------------------
average cost = 5801.66 pp

Some people have claimed to have gotten the hoop around the 20th ruby. I think these people are just very very lucky. DON'T expect to be this lucky, or you will be very disapointed. If you can find one of these selling for less than 5500pp I suggest you grab it, as its likely less pp than you would spend doing the quest yourself. And on a side note, Lynuga can take hours and hours and hours to spawn. (hunted bull aligators to pass the time).

These are just my thoughts and person experiances. No hearsay, no BS or guess work.

Good Luck!

I talked to a cleric last night that gave her 235 rubies (not all at once) and has STILL not seen the hoop. Perhaps its best to give rubies all at once?

I have been through 5 of these, each time I got it on the third try. I am not saying it will work for everyone. Nor do I want to start a myth that you will get it on the third try. What I would like to know is if there are any other enchanters out there that get it as often as I do. If so did you use the illusion and alliance spells to help. If any one digs into this a little let me know on the cazic thule server. Maybe it will save some of the others out there some plat to just have an enchanter use thier faction abilities to get the item for them. Just an idea in the back of my head. Hope it helps someone out there to get the items without spending all thier lifes savings. As always be safe friends.

Somebody spent 31K on rubies and didn't just buy one (or buy something better)?

Jeesh, if people are just throwing money away they might as well just drop it randomly in the Commons. ;)
Ivandyrs Hoop
# Jul 24 2001 at 3:09 PM Rating: Good
Ok i finally found Lyguna last night and she was by lguk standing on a little isle to the left of the entrance if u facing the swamp. I got 3 hoops after 53 rubbies. Approx cost fo 7k pp i spent in rubies but i sold one for 5k and traded the other for 10k worth of items and put the 3rd on my chanter so well worth the cost. Anyway i got a hoop on my 9th try my 50th try and my 53rd try so its completly random. I wasnt done giving her rubies but she despawned on me while i was giving one of the hoops to an alt since they are lore but noone was hailing her eiother. I think this may have prevented her from despawning but I dont know for sure. I would like to know if she has a spawn time and PH's some ppl say yes some ppl say no.Well thats all the info i have on it atm.
Midnight Mallet

Maybe this was a fluke but OMW to hunt upper Guk, I was LVL 11 at the time, Warrior. I always kill the 2 guards at the entrance, and i looted the Midnight Mallet off of one of the guards. This was great because i gave it to my first lvl Cleric.

Does this hurt Broken Skull faction or improve it? The info above says it lowers faction with Broken Skull Can, but Lynuga is a member of that clan. Shouldn't it improve that faction?

Does this still give the Ivandyr's hoop ? I tried to do the quest today. Handed in 40 rubies, one after the other but no hoop =(. I got kinda irritated after that but luckily I managed to restrain myself from throwing the keyboard across the room.

I camped Lynuga the night before last on the Drinal server. Taking the advice of other posters and some friends, I proceeded by killing everything on the island to the left of the entrance to Guk (when facing it). I also killed every NPC I saw. After 2 hours of this, Lynuga spawned. Unforuntately, she was threatening to me (I am an Iksar Shaman) and needless to say I was a bit disappointed. But there was a newbie Troll nearby and I enlisted his help. When she chased me into the entrance to Guk, she disappeared for a few minutes, but a few minutes later a friendly druid had told me she reappeared in the water to the right of the entrance to Guk (when facing it). My friendly troll went over and gave her a Ruby and received the mallet. Before we could do anything else, Lynuga attacked another Hafling who got to close and he killed her before I could get him to stop. Spent another two hours trying to get her to spawn with no luck. Then last night a friend of mine was in Guk and sent me tell saying that the same friendly druid from the previous night had just said Lynuga was up. I gated to South Ro, ran over to Guk and there she was in the water to the right of the entrance. Interestingly enough I was now DUBIOUS instead of threatening as I had been the last time I saw her. I guess all those Froglocks or NPCs had changed my faction. Also, the Troll Slayer was up at the same time (draw your own conclusions about wether he is PH or not). I hailed Lynuga and she WOULD speak to me and give me the quest despite my dubious faction. After giving her 17 gems she gave me the hoop! And yes... it IS an awesome item.

Something that is important to know about this quest is to get the hoop you have to have an open slot in your inventory. The hoop will not go into a backpack.
Some related info...
# May 08 2001 at 10:17 AM Rating: Excellent
*** NOTE *** Giving her 4 separate rubies, then 4 stacked did not win me a hoop.

I have seen Lynuga spawn in 3 different places. The key is definitely to stay around Guk. Once she was down in the water right in front of Guk. Another time she was visible from Guk but in the distance on an island straight ahead. The third time she was on an island right of Guk. She still spawns. Keep in mind, if you aren't KOS to her, then you are eligible for Ivandyr's Hoop just as much as anyone else not KOS. If she kindly considers you, or looks your way apprehensively, you have the same chances of getting Ivandyr's Hoop. That info was confirmed by 2 former GMs and current testers with privelaged accounts.

I have personally given Lynuga 15 rubies and received no hoop. I went in with high hopes, thinking I would be lucky like when I got my Iksar Berserker Club in 1 hour, but now I have spent over 2,000pp in rubies for naught. I can only hope that I spend 5,000pp or LESS on this quest to receive a hoop, because the hoop itself is worth about 5,500pp and if I spent over 5,000 on the quest, I would have been much better off buying it straight out, as I've wasted much time waiting for Lynuga, after transferring rubies to a level 1 character that's not KOS to her. One former GM said they've seen people turn in 45 rubies and not receive a hoop. The same goes for people receiving it on the second try.

Remember, keep around Guk! She is usually visible from Guk, and if not, she's close. That's my experience, I hope this helps!
