Gwaddry Aethadoc is a level 65 quest NPC con'ed indifferently to anyone. He is not far from the zone in of Nagafen's Lair: The Caverns of Exile.

You say, 'Hail, Gwaddry Aethadoc'

Gwaddry Aethadoc says 'Get out of my way mortal, you have no business with me unless you [wish disposal of the fire demons].'

You say, 'I wish disposal of the fire demons.'

Gwaddry Aethadoc says 'Well then ______, you might be of service to me after all. I seek some brave soldiers to strike back at the servants of Nagafen that have been chosen to guard his hordes of treasure. They need to be cut down so that we may claim what is rightfully ours. Do you wish to [strike back at the minions of Nagafen]?'

You say, 'I wish to strike back at the minions of Nagafen.'

Gwaddry Aethadoc says 'Very well, I will need you to collect me 4 items for an incantation I have been working on. My limited area that I am forced to reside in has prevented my practice of magic so I have been restricted to concocting alchemy potions. When you are [ready] I will have you [gather the components] I need for my potion.'

You say, 'I am ready to gather the components.'

Gwaddry Aethadoc says 'As I said before I require 4 important components for my recipe. They all must be taken from the beasts that reside in the deepest parts of these caverns. Return to me when you have gathered 1 Fireback Silk, 1 Sweltering Slime Bauble, 1 Fireborn Tooth and 1 Blistering Tentacle.'

The items drop randomly throughout the zone. All are LORE and NO DROP. Give all four to Gwaddry to receive experience a Gwaddry`s Trinket.

Gwaddry Aethadoc says 'Well I see that you can certainly be trusted to uphold my will should I request it of you. Please take this symbol and return to me if you should desire to help me with a much [bigger problem].'

You say, 'What bigger problem?'

Gwaddry Aethadoc says 'I do feel that you have no problem assisting me with any items I may need, but what I am about to ask you to do could put my life in jeopardy. Let me begin by telling you how I lost my sacred [family totem].'

You say, 'What family totem?'

Gwaddry Aethadoc says 'The totem I speak of has been in my family for 5 generations, that is until I lost it recently in a battle to hold back the forces of the Taklasinai. I wish to regain my totem so that I may use it to do the [unspeakable].'

You say, 'What is unspeakable?'

Gwaddry Aethadoc says 'For years I have sat here in this dwelling unable to practice my magic at the fault of the Vrodak. I no longer wish to be confined to this space and want to be free. The only way I will not die where I stand is to pledge allegiance to the Taklasinai. I feel if I seek council before their leaders they will agree to use my ranking as a way to infiltrate the Vrodak defenses and eventually cause the Vrodak clan to crumble. Before I can free myself I will need my magical family artifact. If you will [collect the pieces of my totem] I will reward you greatly.'

You say, 'I will collect the pieces of your totem.'

Gwaddry Aethadoc says 'Very well ______, I wish you luck in obtaining the pieces to my family totem so I can once again reconstruct it. When it was lost it was broken into 3 pieces; A hilt, a base and a collection of runes that were engraved into it. Should you return these 3 pieces to me along with my trinket, I can once again construct the totem and free myself from this area to seek council with the Taklasinai. Please hurry ______, if word gets out that I am planning a revolt against my own people I will be killed for sure.'

You're looking for three more LORE NO DROP items: Burning Totem Base, Burning Totem Hilt, Sweltering Totem Runes. Give all three plus the trinket back to Gwaddry to receive your reward.

Gwaddry Aethadoc says, 'I did not expect you to return to me alive to be honest _____. I finally have what I need to reconstruct my totem so the next chapter in my adventure begins. I thank you for your help and would like to present you with this treasure I have been holding onto for a long time. Perhaps it can be of use to you. Now begone before I am seen conversing with you!'

You gain party experience!

yes, the silk drops from the queen, also she can be single pulled using 3rd person veiw and pacification, so makes her easier to do without triggering the waves of spiders.

still waiting on last piece, which is the runes, will do the protector of fire ring on wednesday and pray very hard. :)

Well, I killed the Queen again last night and she didnt drop the silk again.

Has anyone killed her multiple times and seen it drop some times but not others?

Has anyone gotten the silk from any other mob?

Silk drops off Queen random, just like all the quest items from the Named, its not a for sure, but its good chance.. not real rare.

But all this is pointless if the Hilt does not drop anymore! I have 4 sets at 6 of 7 pieces and have let tons of others rot.. Have killed every named so many times, all except Culthor, and if the piece was moved to him that is just lame for the risk/reward.

I have bugged it a few times, haven't seen anyone post here getting the Hilt post patch.

Has anyone seen the fireback silk drop lately. I've been fighting the spiders for a week straight now and have not seen one silk drop.
Fireborn Tooth
# Sep 08 2003 at 12:32 AM Rating: Decent
Anyone seen a Fireborn tooth drop? If so was it only off a Fireborn Wanderer? I've pretty much lived in this zone since it went live. And have crawled all over it. To this date we have quested 3 longswords and are almost ready for a 4th. But have not managed to find a single tooth to complete any cloaks at all. Myself and 2 others in guild only need the tooth to complete this quest.

*Update* Got the tooth the next day (today). It dropped off Kushara Perecan (the named Fireborn mob). This information, combined with some of the drops we have been tracking, leaves me to believe that SoE changed a few of the drops in that patch to Sol C they did awhile back. Seems like certain items will only drop off the named mob of that type now. And since we hadn't killed Kushara Perecan before last night we hadn't seen a tooth. Anyone else comfirm this idea?

I've heard a rumor that Sol C and Chardok B will be removed when LDoN goes live. Can anyone confirm this? I'll be SO pissed if they take this zone down before I can get this final piece.

Looks like some changes got made in Sol C when the patch went in and revamped other zones. Burning Totem Base dropped off Xaon Bulzekel 3 for 3 last night in addition to one of his regular items.

Has anyone seen other quest parts drop off any of the other nameds now?

Does anyone know what drops the Blistering Tentacle?
RE: Blistering Tentacle
# Aug 25 2003 at 6:20 PM Rating: Decent
They drop randomly off any of the tentacle creatures in the zone. Yup good old tentacle mobs - just like the ones in Najena, Unrest or Crystal Caverns).

You'll encounter the first 2 tentacles just after you get past the dogs. Head left at this point and you'll see 2 more immediately. Go down further and head right (so NOT over the little bridge over the lava pool, with a Firborn guy on the other side). Go round a little and you'll come to an area with another 5 or so. Keep killing them until you get the Blistering Tentacle (and they also drop the rune you need for the 2nd stage of the quest).

anyone know what drops the fireborn silk any info would help :)
RE: fireborn silk
# Aug 25 2003 at 6:12 PM Rating: Decent
You mean Fireback Silk (not Fireborn - that's the tooth)

Around the "Fireback Queen" (see listing in the Bestiary, there's lots of fireback spiders that drop the silk (rare drop, so keep killing them).

The only way I know to get to the spider area is to zone in to Sol C (near the dogs) and immediately evac across to the goblin side of the zone (there may be a zone entrance that takes you stright there, but I'm not aware of it).

From there you go through all the goblins, past the big swinging axe, through the building with goblins (taking the right stairs and hugging the right wall, going past the non-Kos named goblin), and through a cavern with more goblins. This will take you to an area with Fire giants.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT FIRE GIANTS: You MUST be in melee range to cast spells on these guys (similar to Velious dragons). For our first attempt at these, shaman slow was resisted every time, as were wizrd nukes - and we had a hell of a time with them. Next trip (after hearing about the melee range thing), the shaman and druid cast from under the giants feet and it was a cakewalk (this was with 65 paladin, ranger and wizard, 64 SK and 63 cleric).

Now... when you first enter the area with the fire giants (you'll see them down in the lava below you), the most obvious exit from this cavern is straight on ahead. WRONG WAY! You actually need to go down through the lava (well, keeping on the rocks in and around it) and exite the cavern back UNDER the point you entered this area (this exit is not visible until you get down and around towards it).

So... fight your way through more giants and you'll come to a building with a giant in each of the 4 corners. The exit to this room is at the back behind a wall opposite you. A set of stairs leads you down into pretty much the dead center of the room. However, if you jump off the stairs immediately on entering the room to the left or right (basically onto one of the giant's heads) the other 3 will NOT agro (agro range on giants is quite small - on the way to this building, I only ever got a double pull once, even though they often seemed they may be within agro range of each other). We sent the paladin tank in first to establish agro followed immediately by the shaman to slow and everyone else piled in on top. Once the first giant is dead you can safely pull or charge the next giant in the back corner of whatever side you've chosen (suggest you pull if a warrior or charge if it's a caster). Two down. You'll then have to kill the giant in the other back corner, or he'll agro you as you leave the room.

Out of that room, kill a loan bug that has suicidal tendencies when presented with a party that's just slaughtered all his giant friends and into another building complex. Welcome to spider central. Just DON'T enter the room with the queen when you get to it (don't worry, you'll recognise it when you see it). Just run around smacking spiders around until you have all the silk you need. Just be aware that the spiders seem to be untargettable (by clicking on them) until they charge and attack you. I had a lot more luck hitting F8 to target them, however. Still often got 2 spiders on a pull though, so it didn't help a lot - just be aware you'll need to fight 2 at once frequently.

This is by far the most difficult piece to obtain in the quest. We devoted one evening to getting in to the area and killing spiders over and over until we had all the silk we needed (we were after 3). I'm now the proud owner of a new haste cloak and we can finish off the last (much easier) pieces for the other 2 cloaks at our leisure.

PS: I've been told that if you work your way through from the Kobold side, you'll eventually intersect with the path I described at the "swinging axe" room (though I didn't notice any other exits from this room - but there could be a less obvious one down at the lava level). So those without a wizard/druid to evac across to the goblin side aren't out of luck (but they may have more work to do in order to get there).

you can zone into the goblin side from SolA, just around the corner from where you zone into SolB. It is up a ramp, over lava and the down the waterfall, you must be under lava.

there is also a connection to the goblins and kobolds. in the room with the swinging axe there are a couple little alcoves. one of them has some fire elementals in it, the other has 1 fire elemental in it and it is a passage way to the caves that lead to the kobolds. the lava underneath the swinging axe is filled with mobs, so make sure and clear them all out first or you won't last long (yes, I made the mistake :p)
