Trooper Mozo can be found at -2555, +3565, guarding the zone-in to East Cabilis.

    You say, 'Hail, Trooper Mozo'

Trooper Mozo looks upon you smugly. 'And what are you? Some sort of adventurer. Bah!! You will be shaken by the first undead you come across. Wetting your pants you shall be. Ha ha!! I doubt you could even [kill the decaying skeletons].'

You say, 'I can kill the decaying skeletons.'

Trooper Mozo says 'You kill skeletons?!! I think not!! They will bounce you with no trouble at all. Ten silver says you cannot collect four bone chips!! When Velious melts!! Hah!'

Hand in 4 x Bone Chips.

Trooper Mozo gasps in astonishment. Wha...? This!! But... I... Why you... I oughts.. All right!! A bet is a bet. Here you go. A few silver pieces for your achievement. What?!! You thought I would give ten? Fat chance! Now get lost or I will haul you in for impersonating a froglok.'

was on my wee bard this eveing, did 1k bottles of Red Wine in Neriak 3rd gate. That and 1 donation of 70gp made me max ally with all 3 factions. Having finished that, I headed on over to PoK and purchased about 8k bone chips. Took the book to FoB and invis song'd it to Trooper Mozo's area. Dropped Invis and targeted him with the faction song and he still wanted to eat me. So, hung out for 5 minutes practicing my "sneak" til it landed...invised up and moved behind him while still in Sneak mode. handed in 4k chips just as a trooper strolled out and thankfully the faction hit before he smoked me. Did the Other 4k and my faction is topped with all that you can get from that quest. Still a few troopers that are KOS to me, so they are on more than 1 faction. Mozo and his ilk don't eat me... they tolerate me at best. Not bad for a half hour's work and a couple hundred plat on a 20 bard. I was able to hand in 1k at a time and get credit for it all. Going to take a few bloodgilll steel weapons and see if that give me any more faction, or faction on the ones I missed.

***Edit: At level 21 and Indiff faction Syrik Iceblood in Loio, he wouldn't take them. returned them to me and said " i have no need". Guess there is still a level 45 min for the Bloodgill Steel Weapons quest.

Just to confirm I killed goblins and outkasts in Warslick Woods until I was dubious to the troopers. I then started turning in thousands of bone chips to Trooper Mozo (you don't have to hand them in one by one anymore, 1000 at a tme works ok) up to max faction with all cabilis factions. Max faction is indifferent to all except the Scale Mystic shaman guild which is stuck on scowling KoS. With indif factin on Cabilis Residents you cannot use the vendors but you can use the bank and parcel guy.

Good luck it took me 8 to 10 hours total with wizard aoe's in Ww and the 1000 stack turn ins in 2019.

8000 bone chips will take you from default to max faction (2000 points of faction x 4 bone chips each). This quest raises 5 Cabilis factions including Warrior, SK, Monk guilds, but will not help with Shaman or Necro guilds.

If you're KoS, use sneak. If your class doesn't have sneak, borrow a rogue shroud from PoK. Or, an iksar illusion such as Bone Mask of the Ancient Iksar will negate the race penalty. But if you are also worshiping a good deity, that may not be enough, since Iksars favor evil deities such as Cazic and Bertox.

These days there are a handful of bone chip vendors in the game, plus you can hand in full stacks, so that makes it real easy. A handy bone chip vendor is Zari Ikura in Feerrott The Dream right at the PoK zone line. Buy 80 stacks (100 per stack) and haul them to Field of Bone and shove them into Trooper Mozo's quest box, 4 full stacks at a time.

[It's interesting that Mozo mentions the cold of Velious, since that expansion didn't come out until after Kunark. Although both were in development since beta.]

It absolutely does help with the Shaman guild.

They're the Scaled Mystics. A faction that I am 99% sure ended up doubling as the Beastlord faction.

But no it does not help with the Brood of Kotiz, the Necromancer faction, but thankfully they're all located in West Cabilis and there's not much on that side.

    You are correct.

Also now that bone chips stack to 1000 it makes factioning with this quest even easier.

Great post nytmare, thanks. I used this method to get my Drakkin necro maxed positive, I did a lot of killing of bandits and goblins iirc to let me get started.

As well as being great for getting faction with Cabilis, this is a great and easy money maker for low level Iksar who started in Cabilis.

As a level 4 Necromancer, I got 7s ... enough to buy a spell! The only thing is you need to be careful not to over give bones as you need them as a Necromancer to make your pet.

Judging from my earlier post, I've been doing this quest on and off for over 7 years. Well just a few minutes ago I hit max faction with all the factions on the quest! As a wood elf ranger this took many tens of thousands of bone chips (estimating 40k). Strolling around Cabillis it looks like i'm non-KoS to all npcs other than the shaman guildmasters. I'm sure there will be others, but it feels good to finally be done with that quest!

Crusader Quarg in Field of Scale was one sadly - Ready To Attack. All the troopers in FoS capped out at Indifferent. Potentially Quarg could be under a different faction since his never budged during the questing. If not then it's impossible for a wood elf ranger to become non-kos to him through factioning alone.

Update: I had assumed Crusader Quarg was a typical NPC but after viewing his page from the link in my first draft I realize there was a lot of comments about his faction being a touch odd. Getting friendly with him is now on my list of things to do, but it seems that list gets fuller each decade :).

Crusader Quarg is a Shadowknight. The skeleton pet should have given that away. He is on two different factions, Legion of Cabilis and Scaled Mystics. You need to raise up both factions not to be KOS with him and there is no guarantee that you started out at the same level in both depending on your race/class/deity choices. You may have started out at two different levels of KOS and only managed to raise one of them up to where you weren't KOS anymore, but are still KOS on the other.

Above mask (quested in FoS) will also provide faction boost to Mozo to allow bone chip turn ins.

I just finished turning in about 4000 bone chips (I want to try getting Greenmist for my Dark Elf SK), so I have some tips for how to make it go more quickly.

First off, the basics: raise your faction with Legion of Cabilis (the troopers) unless you can get an illusion to help you do the turn-ins. Clearing the goblin fort in WW is a good way to do this, and raises FV faction at the same time. I also killed a bunch of iksar bandits/lookouts/manslayers/pariahs, which raise both Legion and Brood of Kotiz (necros); the latter is hard to get any other way since the bone chips quest doesn't raise it.

But the tedious part, of course, is turning in all those chips. I've worked out a way to make it go pretty quickly, and since some folks seem not to know of all the tricks involved, I thought I'd post some quick notes on how to turn in 100 bone chips per minute -- and maybe even be able to still feel your wrists when you're done.

Most people already know that you can pick up a single item from a stack by holding down the Ctrl key while you left-click. So for a quest like this one, they'll bring some stacks of the item, then ctrl-click to pick one up, move the mouse, click on the NPC, move back and ctrl-click, etc. All that mouse movement really adds up, plus all the clicks are with the same hand, so that hand gets a real workout. It's a lot faster if you don't have to move the mouse as often, and if half the clicks can be done with the other hand.

If you look at your Options window, under Keys, category Commands, near the top you'll see an item "Use centerscreen". It's tied to keypress "U" on my boxes, but I don't remember if that's the default or if there was no default and that's what I chose. It's a marvelously useful command, but only if you're in first-person view, so switch to that before trying it. "U" uses whatever's in the center of your screen. It can open doors, open merchant and bank windows, trigger portals, and -- what's useful here -- open "Give" windows to NPCs (as long as the NPC doesn't have some other kind of window, like merchants). So if you stand with the NPC in the middle of your screen, you can ctrl-click to pick up an item, U to give it, ctrl-click, U, etc., then move the mouse to click Give. If you position the Give button near the stack of items it's pretty quick.

To make it go even quicker, I went back to the Options window and added a second keypress for Use centerscreen: I made Ctrl-U do it also. Then I taped down the Ctrl key! Then I had one hand clicking to pick up bone chips, and the other typing U to give them to the Trooper, and after every 4th U I had to move to click Give (which works even with Ctrl held down, thank goodness). The only delay was waiting for the first U to open the Give window, everything else was as fast as I could click. I could easily do a stack of 100 in under a minute. Then, I could either shift the Give window next to another stack, or I could click on something else in my inventory and drop it on the next stack of bones as a way of picking it up to move it to the first stack's spot.

You can really mow through the chips that way. Got up to "kindly" in no time, and dubious to both crusaders. Now I'm off to kill bandits for that necro faction...

Edited to add a point I'd forgotten. If you didn't know, there's an area near the wall, to the right as you face the entrance, where you can stand and give chips to Moto, and not draw aggro from the crusaders. Just hug the wall and edge closer to Moto until the Give window opens, and you'll be fine there. Though it can be nerve-wracking at first to watch Bodli and Quarg go scowling past!

I used an Ornate Velium Pendant while in Iksar illusion on Crusader Quarg to get to threatenly, but I was still scowling to other crusaders. I used it on a different crusader and got to threatenly, but then was scowling to Quarg. (I am indifferent to Troopers, etc. even without potions.. warmly with the illusion one.)

No idea what faction Quarg really is, but its not Crusaders.

If you are, indeed, a ranger, then you can simply invis your way up to him, get behind him and use sneak... make sure to leave invis on until you are sure sneak is working (your character should start moving slowly and the button will stay depressed).

While sneaking you should remain indifferant to him as long as you stay behind him. You can turn in the bone chips all you like, just be sure not to hail him or he'll turn around and attack you. This is how I got my Vah Shir shaman to amiable faction in cabilis for the mini epic.

Quarg either has multiple factions, or is lower on crusader than the others.

Doing the bone chips, I got to warmly with all the others, and dubious crusaders. Quarg was up to threaten. But more chips, and eventually quarg went dubious.

My guess is that he has Brood of Kotiz also, which is the necro. Gained by killing the various bandit and exiled iksar. But you can raise the crusader part enough to not matter.

Interesting; as I was turning in bone chips (with no illusion; I slaughtered goblins in WW to get Trooper faction to dubious) I noticed that Quarg went from scowling to threatening long before Crusader Bodli did, and similarly I got to dubious with Quarg while Bodli was still threatening. But both of them did gradually improve as I turned in chips, which means neither of them is on necro (Brood of Kotiz) faction, since bone chips don't raise that one. My guess is one of them is on the Scaled Mystics faction and the other is on Crusaders of Greenmight, but it's hard to be sure.

If you are a caster, you can invis until you are right behind him, then click <hide>. You can sit there all day and do the turn ins. Remember, tho - 4 chips = 1 point of faction gain. Be prepared to turn in LOTS! I turned in about 2.5K of them, but that only equalled about 625 points of faction boost. Great for the Residents and such, but I'm still threatening to the Crusaders. NEED MORE CHIPS!!!!!

You need to be non-KOS (Dubious and higher)
Or, if you have Sneak, you can position yourself behind Mozo, right next to the urn and turn them in at the maximum distance you can, so that the wandering Crusaders and other Troopers don't aggro on you. To get in that position usually requires Invisibility, but you cannot hand anything in while invisible.

The Trooper faction (Legion of Cabilis) is the easiest to gain among the Cabilis factions, by killing Sarnaks, LOIO Goblins, Explorers in LOIO, or the Iksar Bandits found throughout the Field of Bone and Warsliks Woods.

    # Aug 10 2004 at 8:03 PM Rating: Default
You can turn in the bone chips without agroeing the crusaders by either turning invisible or by positioning yourself as far away from the pathing of the crusaders while still being able to give the bone chips to Mozo. This way you do not have to wait around for most of the time to give the chips. Giving 4 stacks of 4 bone chips to make the quest quicker does not work. I tested this with a lev 1 iksar and the experience is exactly the same as if I turned in just 4 bone chips. You have to turn in 4 chips one in each give slot or you dont get the experience. If you put 4 chips in one give slot Mozo counts it as if you have given him one. Do not waste your time waiting for the crusaders to go away, and don't waste bone chips by giving Mozo stacks at a time hehe!

Yeah, I found if I started right in the corner behind him and slowly moved forwards until I could just reach him to do hand-ins, the Crusaders wouldn't aggro. Though they're light blue to me at 67, so maybe aggro radius is higher at lower levels.

Trooper Mozo guards the entrance to East Cabilis in Field of Bone. He is situated at the open archway that immediately leads to East Cabilis.

A safe way to reach him is to walk around the ruins and vendors inbetween his position and the rest of the Field of Bone. All of the NPCs and guards Cannot see-invis (including the skeleton pets of the two crusaders).

The difficulty of donating the bone chips comes from two wandering level 50 SK guards - Crusader Bodli, and Crusador Quarg.

These guys are not on the same faction, and there's some arguement as to what factions they are.

Both of them path right next to our Trooper Mozo which makes life dangerous. However both follow a static path which means that the hand in can be timed.

One crusader waits a few feet inside the entranceway to East Cabilis for roughly 5 minutes. Meanwhile the other crusader is inside one of the two ruined structures (depending on which crusader). The crusader at the entranceway then walks up the road, and turns into the furthest end of one of the structures (with the second crusader at the far end of his ruined structure). Both crusaders then walk down their structure and back up once. At this point the second crusader walks down the road to the position at the entranceway and waits for about 5 minutes. And so on in this format.

The best time to do the hand in if, like me and many others, you are kos to them, is to wait till the crusader has begun his journey up the road and away from the zone in.

If you do get agroed from the crusaders, the troopers WILL join in against you. They run at at least sow speed. However running into Cabilis quickly escapes them, and you will Not be close enough to agro any npc when immediately zoned into East Cabilis.

    Hope this helps.

Ok, here's the deal. You need to hand in about 8000 bone chips just to be able to walk into most of cabilis. However, you're not done yet. The necros still hate you. You will now need to kill thousands upon thousands of the various NPCs on the forsaken faction(bandits, periah, exile, etc.) if you want to be completely safe walking around cabilis. Oh, I'm also a DE Necro.

With all the new expantions and the fact the this game is so old (age wise) Kurn's tower is rarely camped by lower levels. When I go in to kurns and see one person there I will ask that person were he/she is camping and then avoid that area as I train the rest of the zone and mass slaghter for bone chips. I would not suggest this if there are lower levels in there lvling as your huge train will agro on them and kill them quickly. Just a sugestion for getting mass quanitys of bone chips for this quest. I filled 4 10 slot bags full of bone chips in about 1 hour training the mid and upper lvl of the zone...BTW the the furry guys down stairs also drop bone chips just not as many...
    Flesh To Bone

With the AA ability flesh to bone for Necromancers the price in Bazaar should be real cheap now. But it isnt.

If you need a whack of bone chips enlist the aid of a Necro freind with this skill or hire one. Head to Shadow Haven and right near the bank is a female halfling vendor that sells meats. Scorpion meat can be had for one silver making a stack of bone chips cost 2 gold.

Takes no time what so ever to produce the bone chips as the Necro can make a stack at a time. With the bank so close there is no problem runnin over there and loading up every slot you got.

To make 1000 bone chips takes no more than 5 minutes.

    Good Luck Good Huntin

Thanks for posting this tip. I wish I had seen it earlier and so do the poor newbies I have been robbing of experience while AEing Kurn's Tower. Now maybe I can finish this quest off.

I got 'Flesh to Bone' solely to do this quest... 3AAs was much quicker than farming thousands of bone chips.

You know it seems to me that the fact that you have to badmouth others isnt the greatest sign of how cool you are.
    Faction with potions

After killing sarnaks for hours upon hours, I decided to try iksar illusion potions. I've killed enough sarnaks that the potion makes the troopers dubious, but the SKs are still KOS. The potions are not much of a faction jump with Quel as a god.
    Confused !

Well I have turned in 7,640 bone chips and I am indiffeent to everyone except Necros and MONK GUILD , but the shamans are indifferent as well, I have read and was told that everything should be indifferent except Necros and Shamans. If this quest is to raise your faction with Swift Tails then it must be broke becuse after turning in 7,640 bone chips and I am still Scowling Ready to attack to them. If anyone have any idea on what to do plz let me know.
