I just got Dubious tonight to the SK crusaders. I am still scowled at by most the other factions, but I believe that is the next tier.

My Faction was max on Legion from the start by killing mobs in various zones.

SKs Glared at me after 5200 bone chips.
SKs became dubious after 6200 bone chips.

Will update when I get more info.

My last desperate cry on the subject: I need to know if ANYONE has achieved better than indifferent faction with Crusaders. I dont care how many chips it takes...(well, i care, but in the long run, I just need to get to Amiably)
I've heard that a Dwarf Paladin (Like myself) on my server has done it with chips, but if a Rallos Zek warrior can't do it, it doesn't seem like a paladin could...hrmm. Anyways, if anyone knows for sure, please post. Thanks

Btw, Trooper Mozo always gives you 7sp now for each handin, so for an easy check on how many bone chips you just turned in:

Once I became dubiously to troopers, I started to turn in bone chips. Yes it's easy to avoid the crusaders, just keep your eyes open.

For a human monk following Quellious, I became indiff to troopers at 1800 bones, and threatening to crusaders after 5200 bones.

Will try get another 2000 bones and see how things turn out.

    update..

I'm at 6200 bone chips and Crusaders finally became dubiously to me. Also, Legion of Cabilis faction has maxed out, which is Indifferently.

Now just need a bit more so I can start doing the Monk shackle quests :)

    # Nov 06 2002 at 3:42 PM Rating: Default
I've been working this bone chip quest off and on for a couple of months. I gather or buy a few bags full, then turn them in four stacks of four at a time. I was getting four faction messages each time.

I turned in some chips a couple of days ago, again four stacks of four, but I was only getting one faction message. Has there been a change recently? Would anyone else give it a try and see what they get?

Turning in a thousand bone chips four at a time is a pain.

Trying to give while feigned says 'Trooper Mozo is busy', but you if you give 1 bone and FD, you can handin the rest.

Sneak works but it's a risky game. Mozo turns around regulary with a few minutes interval, and you don't want to be KOS to him them. Especially since they run faster than SoW speed.

I would wager that it's got something to do with how it can take months for replies, and the person doesn't want to come back and check often for an answer.

First I'd just like to say a big thanks go out to that Paladin who posted the faction guide on the Paladins of Norrath message board. It was VERY helpful. I thought i'd send in my perspective of the quest.

These numbers are results from when i checked cons after I completed 10 slot backpacks of bone chips, so they may be slightly rounded. I turned in a few pincers and a few knives but not enough that it seemed to make much of a difference.

Here are the results for a Human Warrior who follows Rallos Zek.

4600 Bone chips -- Threateningly with both Quarg and Bodil. (didn't check other factions but i'm assuming they were as well since they all changed at the same time later on)

5600 Bone chips -- Dubious to Quarg and Bodil

7000 Bone chips -- Apprehensive to Crusaders, Shaman, Monks, Residents.

7400 Bone Chips -- Indifferent (and maxed) to Crusaders, Shaman, Monks, Residents, and Troopers (troopers maxed long before this during the quest)

Currently killing tons of Forsaken to get those unfriendly necros to like me.

If you don't already know about it, this quest raises your Crusaders faction beyond indifferent and is much faster than collecting thousands of bone chips.

The problem with this quest, and I have done a lot of these faction quests, is the drop rate of these knives. They don't drop often enough to consider this that good of a way to get faction. You're right though, the faction hits are awesome.

With AA's enchanters can project illusion and turn you into an iksar. Also, you can get potions with the effect of Illusion:Iksar that will turn you into an iksar. Be aware that the illusions fade once you zone (unless you're an enchanter with perminant illusion). While Illusioned as an iksar my Karana worshiping enchater was amiable to Mozo. Don't remember what my Cazic Thule Troll was with iksar illusion, but he's been able to complete the first 5 shaman cudgel quests without any faction troubles.

Projected illusions do NOT provide faction benefits. At best, you'd get the HP regen bonus of 2 HP standing / 4 HP sitting that enchanters do.

My Tunarian Wood Elf Druid is dubious with the troopers but still KOS with the crusaders.

How hard would it be to turn in bone chips to Mozo without running into a crusader? Also, does turning in bone chips lower any "good" factions?

I dont necessarily want to enter cabilis, but getting enough faction to not be attacked by any of the mobs on the listed factions would be great.

    Thanks

If you stand far enough to Mozo's left, next to the tall golden firepot (and I mean right next to it. My Tunarian wood elf druid's feet were on the base of the pot), and give the chips to him from maximum distance, you should be clear of the crusaders. I still keep a wary eye watching for them returning from their rounds.

I've only seen one go on patrol at a time. While one crusader is patrolling, you should be safe for a couple of minutes to turn in to Mozo. Just keep an eye out for the crusader's return.

I used to pull the half elf from Kaesora with my 10 shaman and let the 2 crusaders duke it out with hime while I turned in chips as my paladin, but you're right about the distance thing. It's SOOO scary seeing him walk by, knowing that if he attacked, I'd instantly have 4 NPC's on me who hit for double attacks and quads for up to 170 a hit and cast HT and spells (including snares) so I have my Divine Aura always ready.
So far, 4 bags full of stacks turned in. That's...20 X 8 X 4 = 640...according to the above post, I have quite awhile left before I'm anywhere NEAR my desired faction with Crusaders of Greenmist. F***'ing racist guards :P

Turning in chips here does not lower any faction anywhere else. It only raises your factions in Cabilis, so it is a no lose situation. (Assuming your faction is good enough to start with that the guard you give the chips to, does not kill you first.) ;)

Isint this better than dubious to begin with? I havent done much to raise faction in this town (killed a few sarnaks about 10). Can I do the bone chip thing already?

Also I dont understand, when I have lots of bone chips do I give them to him four at a time or give him a whole stack at a time or the whole damn packpack. LOL Any help would be appreciated

I've noticed that when I'm invisible, I usually con indifferent to everyone, no matter what faction I normally have with them.
    RE: Im conning indeferent already
    # Jun 01 2002 at 12:09 PM Rating: Default
Another reason why you could con indifferent to a trooper is having killed kunark goblins or sarnaks. Those raise your faction with troopers, but not with crusaders.
    RE: Im conning indeferent already
    # May 01 2002 at 4:08 PM Rating: Decent
BEWARE! You're conning indifferent because you're invisible - if invis, anything that cannot see you will automatically /con indifferent. However, when you attempt to trade with him (to give him the bone chips), you will become visible. And if you've done no more faction work than what you described, Mozo will proceed to pound your soft fleshy human hide into the ground. =)

FYI, the way to hand in quest components is this. Pull out a stack of FOUR bone chips, and trade with him (as soon as you've done some more faction work, that is.) The first of the four trade slots in the NPC trade window will be occupied by that stack. In each of the other three slots, put another stack of four bone chips so that there is a grand total of 16 bone chips in the trade window; this is the most you can turn in at one time. This is true of any quest involving stackable components.

Oh, and watch out for the Crusaders. Even when you're no longer KOS to the Troopers, you WILL be to them :)

Tried giving the Trooper four stacks of four chips each and only got one faction message iso four. Verified that giving four stacks of one each (four total) gave one faction message. Thinking that maybe they only report one message when turning in more than one chip in a stack, I tried four stacks of two chips each and got one message and only 7sp. Bugged this.

Yes, this was changed in a patch, you can no longer hand in stacked items. You have to hand in 4 singles instead of 4 stacks of 4 each.

My main char is a 52 druid, I also have a 44 cleric and an 18 necro.

Bone chips are entirely too easy to get, who needs to pay 5plat per stack from a player selling them?

It's the same with batwings and fish scales. You can buy these in the caster's guild in Freeport.

Sure I might give 1plat(which is more than I can buy them for in Freeport) for a stack of batwings, fish scales or bone chips, but more than that is a rip off.

Just a miscommunication as a result of bad grammar, the anonymous poster was refering to only Batwings and Fishscales being sold as main vendor stock... not bone chips.

But.. you can buy stacks of bone chips where players sell them back to vendors.

If you want bone chips, there is a much easier way to farm them....

I have an Erudite necro who currently uses bone chips like they are going out of style. I don't like to compete with my pet for Exp, so I just go after yellows and reds after hopping up the pet. Anyways, when I am running low on chips, I head to Paineel. The newbie skelies spawn like flies and you can't turn around without there being a handful of them within spitting distance.

The respawn is rediculously fast and the bone chips and rusties (for pet dual wield - nice not having to use expensive weapons to get pets to do more damage) drop like rain in the Karanas. You can easily fill a backpack in less than a half hour (10 stacks of 20).

Well, I'll beg to differ too. ;-)

The previous poster is 100% correct - there are no merchants anywhere in the game that stock bone chips as part of their regular inventory.

    It's that simple.

Of course, it's certainly possible to buy bone chips from a merchant, as long as a player has sold them some....which is exactly what the previous "anonymous" said. But unless that happens, you're not going to find any in the Freeport caster's guild (unlike bat wings or snake scales, both of which are sold in unlimited quantity by lots of merchants).

There is one vendor with bone chips, a chest in PoM. You may have to kill several placeholders, but eventually a chest will spawn who has some INT caster research containers, periodots, bone chips and Decks of Spontaneous Generation for sale. It's a load of faffing around, but invaluable for this quest!

Sarnath is correct, also I believe you can tell the merchant doesn't carry the item as regular inventory when they sell only a certain number of the item ie you buy 3 bone chips then it's not listed in his for sale inventory anymore. This would indicate that some other player has sold to the merchant 3 bone chips. All other items you can buy all you want and they will still be listed.

I disagree. I have a 54th necro and don't mind paying for bone chips. It just saves me the time and the hassle of running around killing total greens looking for bone chips. And it helps the newbies out in the area's where most of the people hunting could buy all their next level spells for 5pp.
But my favorite thing to do is to quest for them. I would run into neriak, park myself at the newbie log and look for newbies with nothing. Make up a little story that I need the bone chips for my dark magics and tell them if they will bring me a stack I will reward them. I would give them the little almost junk items that are just barely too good to sell to a vendor, but not worth the time auctioning in Gfay or EC. I have probably given out hundreds of items like splitpaw hide gloves, sheerbone masks, giant snakespine belts ect... It can be alot of fun and really can make a newbies day to get an item that to me would be junk but to them will be the best piece of equipment they will get for 5-10, or more, levels.

I'm an Innoruuk worshipping Dark Elf Shadow Knight. I've turned in approx. 5000 chips, and done the goblin watcher torch quest approx. 50 times. My faction with LegionsOfCabalis cannot get any higher. My faction with the CrusadersOfGreenmist is so high (amiably) that I can train in their guild! Residents and Banker are finally dubious to me, so I can bank. I'm still working on necromancer faction (still threatening)... BUT MY BIG CONCERN IS... the f&%k$g MERCHANTS. They started conning dubious to me ages ago, back when I was about indifferent to the LegionsOfCabalis (back around, oh, 1000-1500 chips..?). My faction with them has not changed since! What's the deal? Am I missing something here? Any input is appreciated.

I think I found the answer to my own question about the iksar merchants. I re-read this whole thread, and stumbled into a really good post from Drell:

"If the NPC is a merchant, you will con no less than dubious, regardless of your actual faction. This was a bug fix used to combat the fact that merchants liked to move away from their initial positions and no longer buy/sell. If you are intersted in your actual faction here, con the bankers, the scribe, or one of the NPCs outside the bank."

So that would make sense, esp. sincs so many of those merchants are outside the city where foreigners are apt to be. SO they fudged the faction so that I was 'dubious' to merchants, even though my REAL faction with the merchants was scowling, or threatening, etc. Now that I am dubious with the banker and citizens, I am *really* dubious with the merchants, and getting my faction up just a little more to apprehensive I should be able to buy and sell.

By the way, nice side note on merchants: I've discovered that some merchants are not on CabalisResidents faction... rather they are on their guilds. I am considered "kindly" in the monk guild, and one of the merchants in there will sell to me. The merchant in the SK guild with the over-50 spells will sell to me... and there's a few others peppered about the city.

I guess I have a few more chips to go to get to the point where I can buy food/water though... that's all I really care about at this point.

Here's a URL to the Paladins of Norrath message board where I first saw this entire topic discussed long long ago.

That message thread is very useful to anyone who wishes to bank and bind in Cabilis.

I'm a 52 agnostic dwarf warrior and I have turned in 193 stacks of bone chips and everyone except the necros con aprehensive. Actually, the Legion of Cabilis cons warmly b/c of hunting in Ill Omen from level 18-29 and a Chardok raid. I can now bank, trade with the merchants, and I have even trained at their warrior guild. Preety cool. I'm currently working on Iksar necro faction by killing bandits. On a side note, at the 100 stack of bone chips mark everyone but the Necros conned at least dubious, so I figure I only need to kill around 500 bandits so I'm not kos to the Necros.

I wonder if a Bard worshiping Veeshan could get the necessary factions seeing as Iksars and the Ring of Scale are not the best of neighbors.

Umm, the Ring of Scale is a group of Dragons that went against the true Dragons under Veeshan.

    These include Trakanon, Vox, Naggy.
Most likely, you can gain Iksar Warrior faction pretty easily, but the Shamans and ShadowKnights don't like visitors. If you're a bard, you really don't NEED faction with the iksars.

Agreed, This is not a NEED thing.

There is certainly some wow factor from walking around Cab as a Half Elf but this does have the utility of being able to use the FirePots as a free Kunark port. Selos and Drumb makes foot travel quite appealing.

Jack of all trades, master of none. Welcome in all cities except one.

I just did this quest, and I can tell you the easiest ways to do this:
    1. Be an Iksar. This doesn't help if your not an iksar. Duh.
    2. Be a chanter. Illusion: Iksar is cool. If you are a chanter, you can help people by charming the guard you turn them in to.
    3. Kill the *&^% out of Sarnaks and Goblins. Get good enough faction with the guards, but still be careful of the crusaders. If one is coming by, prepare to die. Or you could just run.

Hope this helps. Just like all the other posts, I just repeated the same info again. DON'T JUST COPY OTHER POSTS! It makes me mad to see pages so long and it's all the same thing. If you have anything useful to post, MAKE SURE IT HASN'T BEEN POSTED 400 MILLION TIMES ALREADY!
