Note: You can do turn-ins for this quest as low as dubious (he just won't talk to you).

When you hand in Giant Warrior Helmets, you see:

Lieutenant Milven says 'Well done, _____. You are proving to be worth the risk of sending a new recruit out on a mission such as this. If you feel this is the type of mission you're best suited for, feel free to slay more of these beasts and return their helmets to me. The fewer giants there are out there, the less chance they can continue their random attacks against us. I also may have another assignment for you if you're interested.'

You say, 'What assignment?'

Lieutenant Milven says 'While the helmets of the giants are a good way to prove your worth, it really strikes home to the giants when they see some of their best warriors dead without their toes. If you can bring me back either Storm Giant toes or Frost Giant toes, you will not only show the us that you are a friend to the shrine, but also that the giants are not as indestructible as they would have you believe.'

The only Giant Toes that work are the Frost Storm Giant Toes from Velious. Upon handing some toes in to Milven:

Lieutenant Milven chuckles as he looks at the toes of the giants. 'You have indeed proven yourself to me, and in doing so to the shrine. Keep it up and you'll be on your way to becoming a great ally to the shrine. We appreciate your efforts in this matter greatly, and if you choose to continue your endeavors in this matter, we won't hold it against you.' He gives you a sly grin before going back to his work.

Your faction standing with Claws of Veeshan got better.
Your faction standing with Yelinak got better.
Your faction standing with Kromzek could got worse.
You gain experience!!
You receive 14 copper from Lieutenant Milven.
You receive 10 silver from Lieutenant Milven.
You receive 14 gold from Lieutenant Milven.
You receive 4 platinum from Lieutenant Milven.

at dubious faction he does the insult flavor text at you, but as others have said will take the turn-ins.

4 toes:

Claws of Veeshan +7
Yelniak +1
Kromzek -3

Gave xp messages but I was too high to notice an impact.

also gave 2 copper, 2 silver, 1 gold, 1 platinum

for the helms you can hand in one...

Claws of Veeshan +15
Yelniak +3
Kromzek -7

xp message as well.

From where I was in dubious, 4 toes and 5 helms took me to apprehensive.

Edit: toes can be done single as well. 1 toe and 2 more helms put me into indifferent.

My COV faction was dubious while my Yelinak faction was threatening so I am assuming Claws of Veeshan.

And please check the Kael Drakkel page, there are 3 mobs that need to be added.

I was max Ally to CoV. After that, I killed a Lord and Lady and 6-7 drakes (I don't remember how many exactly). That made ms KoS. I went to Kael afterwords and killed Vindicator, Statue, Idol, and Avatar. I'm still KoS.

It is NOT Lieutenant Milven on the Mac server. From WL, Sentry Kcor on the left before the gate.

Storm and Frost giant both work, Ice and hill Giant resulted in "I have no need for this, you can have it back".

I did not try fire giant, as none were for sale in the bazaar, and I am too lazy to fight down in Sol B just to test this, but I would strongly suspect that it is the toes of VELIOUS giants they want.

That was my hunch as well, but we always prefer actual test results to guesswork. I've updated the quest listing with your info, thanks!

You can fight frost giants for days, weeks, and months before you see any real movement in your CoV faction. BUT, your faction will skyrocket if you go to Kael Drakkel and kill storm giants. The frost ginats give very small CoV faction boost, even in KD, compared to the storm giants. I went from kos to indiff in hours casting on storm giants while other groups fought, healed other groups, and fought some myself.

Also hitting the named Frost giants in either the GD fort or EW fort seems to put your faction ahead quite a bit as well. I was at threatening for a long time and now, after 4 hours of named mobs, I am apprehensive. My 2cp.

Remember that the range for Faction is very large. Dubious is 400 faction points wide, and to boot some of the quests you don't get faction unless you are indifferent or amiable when the turn in occurs.

It would be nice to see a value to know what your Faction is, like an ORACLE you could go to and pay say 5PP and she would tell you your faction rating with a specific Faction, or 100pp for a list of them all.

Ready to Attack -2800(max) -801
Views you Threateningly -800 -501
Scowls at you Dubiously -500 -101
Is apprehensive -100 -1
Is Indifferent 0 99
Is Amiable 100 499
Considers you Kindly 500 699
Views you Warmly 700 1099
You are an ally 1100 2800(max)

I know its a pain the *** to get faction with CoV, the only fast way I know of to get good faction is to kill the vindicator, my guild, Fellowship of Vallor, have killed him a few times, always drops the BP but always gives good faction for CoV, I have killed him 2x and now that I kite in GD for an hour or two, I can rais facton to ally with my bard song, YES YOU CAN RAISE FACTION TO ALLY WITH THE BARD FACTION SONG. So if you want in done quickly, kill vindi a few times, then boom ally with CoV.

Killed Statue of RZ and AoW and my COV went from Scowling to Amiable. Much faster than slaving away in Kael killing trash giants. Turned in about 25 toes and 7 helms and got to kindly.

Vindi does not actually give CoV faction... but all the kills you have to make leading up to him do, and that's where the good CoV faction comes from. :)

Does anyone know how many of these you have to turn in to raise faction a level?

It depends which faction level you're talking about. There are various charts of how wide the ranges are; there's one elsewhere on this page even (though I prefer the chart where the -800 and +700 in that chart are replaced by -750 and +750). After that, it's a matter of how many points you get per kill or per quest.

This quest seems to give about 6 per turn-in, because it took me 16 to get from having just turned indifferent (possibly plus a little extra) to just turned amiable (again possibly some extra), a range of 100. And I have a little heroic CHA, which supposedly increases faction hits somehow. The Helms quest seems to have roughly double the hit.

Me and my freind have been trying to raise our CoV faction for west wastes and I would also like to hear an answer to this. We kill giants for hours on end with very little faction increase. Would be nice if we could get it pegged to at least a ballpark figure. I will post back when i have something more I can add to this. Would be nice to hear from someone who has done this though.

So far I have gotten 433+ faction hits with CoV at least by EverLogs. I am still dubious to CoV (checking it in CS with Wyverns and named there, Azuredrake and Yvolcarn) I have also been in the Kael Arena a few times and I quad kite wolves and giants in GD for fun. So the answer to your question is it takes a ton of faction hits to get to indiff I think @500-550 for indif. If you have a good guild with a lot of members 55+ you could go into the arena with several groups and try to take on Vindicator which will raise your faction by leaps and bounds. From what I understand by one full level (indiff to amiable) in one kill or at least close to it. But he is a tough mob. Good luck. Hope you get it
